Great Volume

Volume 12 brings us back to good ole volleyball action with stakes on the line. Gone are the moments of excitement generate from the joy of personal growth through practice games where the only penalty is doing diving digs or running up a steep hill. None, the stakes are higher than ever where a loss will send our favorite students back home. The Miyagi Prefectural Tournament started off excellently with Karasuno using their skills in new ways. It was exciting yet the outcome predictable as no one would expect them to lose before facing off one of the many known teams in their prefecture (Date Tech, Blue Castle, Shiratorizawa for example). So the tension between facing Ohgi Minami, a team whose third years stepped away, and who had faced a crushing defeat against Shiratorizawa last year, was virtually nonexistent. The face off against the team with Goliath was also lacking tension overall, but there were moments in which there was some suspense at seeing how Karasuno MBs (Tsukishima and Hinata) could overcome him. Overall for the matches in this volume only Ohgi Minami would remain memorable. I think the personalities of a bunch of normal rowdy guys reformed in some ways facing the fallen powerhouse Karasuno, yet persevering would keep this match fresh on peoples minds. It kind of feels, in some ways, to how Karasuno may have been before the current set of first years entered. One has to admit they will be an interesting team to watch if we enter into a second year. The down time moments were fairly entertaining. Tsukishima and Hinata had a serious discussion which was nice for a change and showed their evolving relationship with each other, Tsukishima growth continued to be as organic and well paced as Hinata's continues to be, and the few glimpses of other teams were pretty good. Overall a great volume and definitely the ones centered around Hinata and Tsukishima post Goliath match were the best. Volume had a bonus story about Nishinoya, as well as the usual chapter in between extras.

More please!

I love Haikyu! Reading the manga enriches the anime so I always recommended it to fans. Yet, the manga own it's own is an easy, enjoyable read that builds suspense while showing character. Love this whole series!
