Only as Good as Your Kid Will Use the Book - Better As Discussion Points for Parents to Kids

The Growth Mindset Workbook looks like it would be an interesting book for kids to work through to help encourage them to think creatively, solve problems, and to learn that mistakes are okay. Both of my kid are very driven and motivated to work hard, but I wanted to encourage them to not be so hard on themselves when they make mistakes. Because they are so competitive - particularly my son - they tend to take losses somewhat hard and spend more time than I'd like getting frustrated for times when they don't get a perfect grade or can't figure out things right away. The growth mindset workbook didn't quite work in the way that I thought it would as both my kids almost took it as an insult that I would even think that they weren't thinking positively enough and they noted that the activities weren't quite relatable. My son in particular noted - "it's not that I think I'm a failure when I make a mistake on a test, but I'm frustrated that I made a silly mistake which could have been avoided". In addition, while some of the reading is helpful, some of the activities just didn't relate well with my kids. One in particular asked for advice you'd give to your two friends regarding this problem: "two of your friends are in an argument. One friend gave the other friend her favorite pencil, then decided she wanted it back, but the other friend wouldn't give it back. What is your advice to your friends?" Both of my kids were like "why would anyone argue over a pencil...? Are these kids in kindergarten or something?" I ended using the book not quite as intended, and instead would randomly ask my kids questions from it, but modified in a relatable way. The more I went through the book, I can't imagine a kid wanting to go through this workbook on their own, but I do think that it would be interesting for parents to utilize this book in everyday conversation. The workbook sections were just not really fun and unless your kid just like working out random questions with no real answers out on their own, this is both a little too kiddie and too mature for most kids at this age. Overall, while I like the concept of this book, it's something I will get discussion points from, but will not expect my kids to actually every fill out on their own.

A Must Have Life Tool

Well done!!! Well written!!! I recommend this book for parents, teachers, therapist of any kind and for adults to read for themself!!! Love it!!! Our society needs to be focusing more on this stuff!

Let’s grow!

Having a growth mindset is vital for all ages but this workbook makes it easy and fun for students to learn about what a growth mindset is and how to use it!

Should be required reading

I wasn't sure what to expect from the "Growth Mindset Workbook," as I hadn't heard the term before. It refers to how you can grow and change your brain with hard work. What a fabulous book this is for kids! It should be required reading for kids and their parents. A lot of it is about having a positive mindset, but it also addresses the way you think. It even incorporates self-care concepts like doing yoga. The chapters are about making mistakes, problem solving, being creative, setting goals, and persevering (keep going & don't give up). There are writing/journaling activities throughout the book. This is listed as being for ages 8-12, which seems appropriate. Yes, I do recommend this book!

Very helpful!

This book is very helpful for parents wanting to teach their children about understanding the way they think about things and why they do.

Growth Mindset can Overcome COVID Challenges

As we struggle with COVID, I find my students and grandchildren struggle even more. This book made things better - for them and for me. In small, bite-size pieces, this book challenges and empowers kids to build self-regulation as it encourages them to celebrate daily successes. The "projects" are easy-to-complete and fun. My grandchildren loved them, as did my 13 YO students. I recommend this book for all who want to bring hope and joy back into the lives of children. If you use only one to two things from this book, your money will have been well spent. But you won't. You will find that all of the activities are fun, worthwhile, and effective. I received an electronic version of this book as a gift from the publisher. The opinions are my own.

Directing the mind to develop a positive and healthy learning style

This book is an absolute must for parents, educators, and students. It's well organized and promotes a positive and healthy attitude towards learning. It's full of exercises to help the mind grow and learn from mistakes through a strategic process. Through it's creative exercises, it challenges students to engage in mind opening solutions and think outside the box. I will be using this book with my 7 year old son over the years. And certainly save it for my 4 year old daughter.

This book helps kids develop their minds

The great Greek philosopher Aristotle taught that what distinguishes humans from animals and plants is their minds, their ability to think. If they do not use their minds, he wrote, they are no better than animals and plants. This book contains 55 activities that help kids aged 8-12 think creatively, solve problems, and have fun doing it. It tells kids that making mistakes is natural, how to become a problem solver, how to keep trying, setting goals and not giving up. It is filled with fun exercises, tells about challenges, how to change things, stories of people who did not give up, and much more,

Nope, not helpful

Not impressed by this book at all. I work in a 5th grade classroom and we talk about growth mindset all the time with our kids. I thought this book would have some age appropriate activities for the class. Nope. This is more like a personal journal, and I don't think our kids would be willing or thrilled to try anything in this book. It doesn't seem age appropriate for their age at all. Total letdown.

Great for kids

Growth Mindset Workbook for Kids is designed to work with the original Growth Mindset theory from the author, Carol Dweck. Most kids will not read Dweck’s book, but they can read this workbook. It works best if the parents know about the Growth Mindset, which will enable the parent to help the child understand why the activities are in the book. Some activities including brief writing prompts, drawing pictures, and talking about particular mindsets and different ways of thinking. All of them are designed to change the mindset of a child. This is also being used in academics, from grade school to college curriculum, so the earlier the child knows about this theory, the better prepared they will be. Overall, I recommend this workbook.

Good concept, adult guidance will be required

Growth concept seems a good concept for growing kids to assist them with transition to a more meaningful growth oriented mindset. There are lots of good activities and explanations on scenario’s etc. sections such as problem solver, mistakes, keep trying, keep growing, set goals etc does touch various sections. Based in the contents it looks like there are few sections where adult guidance will be required to kids

A Wealth of Growth Mindset Fun!

If I could give this book more than 5 stars, i would! The Growth Mindset Workbook is motivating, engaging, student friendly and very much needed right now. The need for SEL in our schools is more necessary than ever, and this workbook more than meets this need! The book gives tons of knowledge and asks students to think deeper about scenarios that they can relate to. The activities include scenarios about making mistakes, being a creative thinker, goal setting, and so, so many more! This is a teacher's or parent's dream - and your children will love it!!!

Great workbook for younger kids.

I have a 7 year old daughter that is very hard on herself and is often unwilling to try new things, Her teacher has mentioned to me a few times about discussing a growth mindset with her. I decided this work book would be an interactive way to go over this concept with her. The book is well organized and set up in a way that does not feel overwhelming for a child or a parent. We decided to do one reading and activity section each day. To my surprise, my daughter began writing away in the journal portion after reading a bit. This book does a great job making kids feel comfortable and encouraging them to not fear mistakes. What I love most about this book is, it has been the spark to start a few really fun and important conversations in our family.

Interesting concept

The overall concept of the book was intriguing to me so I picked it out. However upon arrival I'm not sure its exactly what I was looking for. I was hoping for it to be something I could use to help form a lesson plan but its more of an individual work book. I use what I can and skip what wont work for working with both of my kids at the same time. I will use it probably just not how it seems to be intended.

May Reinforce Negative Feelings in Some Children ...

“Growth Mindset Workbook for Kids” seems to take psychological exercises for adults and simplifying them for children. Unfortunately, if a child is not ready for change and improving their outlook, this book and its exercises may reinforce their belief that they are not “worthy”. This is absolutely a book that adults should preview prior to working with a child on the exercises. Further, it is imperative that the adult create a positive atmosphere in which to complete any exercise and should refrain from any critical commentary when reviewing the exercises.

Great springboard for discussions with children

I have a 9 year old daughter. I handed her this book and didn't say a thing. She flipped through it, and randomly picked a page to do, and hasn't touched it since. Having said that, I think its a great tool for opening up discussions about failures/successes and things of that nature. I don't expect her to work through this page by page by any means, but I really like a lot of the ideas in this book. She is homeschooled so a lot of the scenarios are not applicable now, but she was in public school for a time so she can imagine these scenarios now.

Great Activities

I’ve done the Growth Mindset book club with several fellow teachers and am familiar with the unique approach to learning and education. It is nice to see a workbook that can be used in the classroom to help students learn to learn. This workbook is loaded with many various exercises that are practical and interesting for children of most ages. The activities are compelling, and the activities are easy to teach. Overall, it’s a great workbook for applying a growth mindset to the activities offered in it.

Not as easy as I hoped

Not as easy for the kids to follow as I'd hoped and not as many fun games. The concept is good though. But it needed to be more fun for our kids to stay interested at least.

Fabulous Resource for Growth Mindset Activities!

I am so impressed with the activities within this resource! Peyton Curley did an absolutely fantastic job of creating exercises to develop a growth mindset in a kid friendly way. I love how this workbook can foster a growth mindset by celebrating mistakes as path to growth and success. It is so important for children to learn how to navigate through challenging situations or times. Providing children support in working towards a growth mindset is necessary. I highly recommend using this workbook!

Nice book for kids as well as for parents.

I did not get this book for my kid but myself. I wanted to learn how to apply the growth mindset to my parenting skills to teach a 3.5-year-old. It is difficult to say if there is any influence. However, I can say that the book shows me the way I can improve myself as a parent. On the other hand, I also believe the book will help my daughter's self-improvement once she can read and follow the book by herself.

Amazing growth mindset activities for students

Absolutely love this book! The activities are thoughtfully done and will be perfect for my students! It can be hard to find quality resources that actually help my students develop their growth mindset, there's a great balance between explanation and practice! This will be a resource I keep on hand for years to come! So helpful!

Great activity book

I really like the idea of changing from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset in order to foster a love of learning in children. This activity book is packed with ideas for helping kids to see the value of making mistakes and using those mistakes constructively for growth. It is such an encouraging read. Lots of colorful illustrations and full of diversity. Perfectly giftable.

Activities to help kiddos grow their minds!

This workbook is clearly lined out. The activities don't take a lot of time, but they do make ya think. I'm happy to use it with my middle/high school kids. It makes a great supplement for families, or we are using it for homeschooling.

Helps Foster a Growth Mindset

I have a fixed mindset, my husband has a growth mindset and I want my child to follow in his father’s footsteps. This is a great teaching tool to let kids know it’s okay to make mistakes and how to foster a growth mindset.

An EXCELLENT growth mindset workbook!

Wow! This Growth Mindset Workbook is motivating, engaging, and kid friendly. The activities included within Ms. Curley's Growth Mindset Workbook are not only positive and relatable to kids - it encourages them to think deeper about certain scenarios. Some of the topics included are making mistakes, being a creative thinker, goal setting, and more! This truly makes the perfect birthday present or holiday gift!

Good workbook

This workbook is a combination of problem solving tasks, emotion management, fun and general mental well being. The tasks vary and suit my 10 year old emotional development level. They make her check and turn to herself and assess her thoughts and actions. I recommend it.

Kindle E-reader is Missing Pages

I just ordered this book, I started reading it on the cloud reader. So far, pages 16 and 24 are missing, that's as far as I have gotten. I don't know what's going on, but I am not happy with it so far. Page 16 has part of the mindset quiz on it. The content seems interesting

Good Learning

During this time of Covid, it's great to find a book that your child can use their brains for creatively and solve problems. This book is great for all ages, not just young children. It gives a positive and healthy way of learning with 55 activities.

I have already seen positive changes in my child's mindset.

My daughter is enjoying working through this growth mindset workbook. The examples are relatable so my daughter can easily see herself in each situation. She is a perfectionist and pretty hard on herself. Since starting the workbook, I have already seen positive changes in her mindset! She is more accepting of her mistakes and less critical!

Overall, a great workbook

This workbook is very interactive. I got this for my 8-year old nephew and he loves it. Some of the pages are hard to read for a 8-year old, but we like it.

Wealth of SEL Knowledge

I was sent this book to review. I have personally taught with the author and she is a wealth of knowledge for social emotional learning. The first thing I noticed was how beautiful the book is. I love how inclusive the illustrations are. As a teacher of English Language Learners it is often difficult to find resources. However, I love how easy this book is to navigate and the activities included. This is a must buy if you are in the classroom!

Gets my child thinking

I like that this book has a lot of great activities that will challenge my child to use their mind.

Great resource for parents, teachers, and educators!

This is a great book for children to work through and learn how to become reflective thinkers! This recourse is a helpful guide for provide parents, teachers, and educators with consistent language and practice throughout. I imagine it will be a springboard for productive conversations that lead to inter and intrapersonal growth! Peyton Curley nailed it with this interactive workbook. 5 stars!

Great book for kids!
