Dr Dave Walker was a successful anaesthesiologist with a special interest in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Disillusioned with God after a series of tragedies, he was living for himself and his work. But something was wrong. Although he was seeing people healed physically, their lives were not changed and it all seemed pointless. This set him on a quest to find a God who did not look on impersonally from a distance, as he thought, but was intimately involved in our lives. After a dramatic encounter, he started praying with his patients. Suddenly things happened beyond anything he could have imagined. Patients were healed miraculously, others experienced Jesus bringing comfort and peace and still others felt the power of God's love in the face of tragedy.
And in the meantime Dave was facing his own personal trials that tested his faith to the limit.
Set firstly in a South Africa transitioning into democracy from apartheid and then in the Muslim world of the Middle East, God in the ICU will take you into the drama of critical care medicine, the inner life of a praying, caring physician and, above all, the response of a faithful, loving God to the prayers of His people. Told with transparency, compassion and an honest look at the lessons we can learn from His dealings with us, you will be encouraged to trust a God who is as close as a prayer away.

I thoroughly enjoyed my career and enjoy books that accurately depict the ...

I usually read most books that involve medical school and then experiences after graduation. I am a retired family nurse practitioner and I really miss the experiences I had with all my patients, I thoroughly enjoyed my career and enjoy books that accurately depict the facts. This can be a tough profession at times, so much so that many people ask why would an intelligent person seek to devote their lives to what can be punishment a lot of the time. It has to be a calling to truly be a good doctor, and apparently Dave Walker felt called to devote his live to patients in need. I thoroughly enjoyed the authenticity as well as the emotional impact the book had on me. If health allowed, I would still be working.

God in the ICU

I was blessed by Dr. Walker and his amazing faith in God,especially his witness and prayers with his patients in the ICU. He truly was a praying doctor who had faith in a loving God and introduced Him freely to others. I was inspired by his book and lifestyle.

A terrific book and very well written!

Being a retired medical professional myself, I thoroughly enjoyed this short book. It was great to read of the many miracles happening in the world because not much is happening here in the Western culture due to faithless pastors and their dead sermons. A better term is "heirlings" are in our pulpits. God works through faith and His Word but Scripture is not being preached today....just silly stories and rock music with dark church sanctuaries. Sad! But back to the book. Dr. Walker is a good story teller. Sorry to read that now he is taking on fiction. The truth is always better than fiction. I used to read it a lot but I repented, deleted all my books (250) and stopped buying. My Bible is way too thrilling to replace with fictional narratives. I wish him success, however, he suffered much over his 40-year medical career. If I went to Jesus, I would want my Dave to find love again.... so bravo doc...be blessed with your Margie. Oh and write a sequel to this one. I am sure you have a lot more to tell about answered prayer and our magnificent God....right? I look forward to seeing Part 2 soon. Leave the fiction to those who don't have what you have.... true life experiences with the One, True and Living God! Thank you for this book. It left me with much to pray about: our unsaved family who need healing and salvation.

Sorry to come to the end...

An intriguing story about the spiritual journey of a doctor and his mission to ask for God's help in healing the critically ill people he cared for. Starting with an uncertain, tremulous faith, it was thrilling to watch this young doctor's spiritual growth and intimacy with God develop. He was on a mission not just to heal bodies but to bring God into the lives of the patients he cared for. It was fascinating to see how God works miracles of healing even today and how he used the growing faith of this doctor, to accomplish his will and work. The book never dragged....just was wonderful from page one through the epilogue. I highly recommend it especially for those in the medical field.

Oh for more doctors like this one

If you were facing surgery or had a loved one hanging in the balance it goes without saying you would want such a Dr. to attend to your care. His documentation of ways He has witnessed God's intervention is inspiring and refreshing.

The memoirs of someone who's just like most of us.

This memoir is sometimes heartbreaking and sometimes his faith is so strong . But just like most people it does falter. You'll have to read it to find out why & when. Such a strong faith he has in God and what this man and his family went through (the good & the bad) That's why I read the entire book One of the most inspirational parts (for me) was when he was living & working in other countries (there were several). I won't give it away though!

More than 5 stars

The story of this godly, gifted doctor will leave you blessed beyond words. If there had been room for one more star, I would have chosen it. It's a truly wonderful account of Dave Walker's work in areas of the world many would not choose to minister in. You will love this book and the man who wrote it.

More like vignettes with life lessons than a traditional biography

This book was not quite what I expected in that is was more like vignettes with life lessons than a traditional biography , but it was good, and I did read though it in its entirety just not all at one sitting (which I often do) . Sometimes I took a break in between chapters to think through what he had written.

MY BEST READ OF THE YEAR

God in the ICU is an excellent read. I was captivated from the first page until the last. Dr. walker writes in a down-to-earth, transparent, easy-to-read manner that is both moving and enchanting. He doesn't exaggerate or sugar-coat his experiences. Although he shares many marvelous miracles as he faithfully prays for his patients, he also share much of the sadness and disappointment that are familiar territory in his field (and indeed for all of us in this fallen world). Having grown up in Cape Town during the exciting time of the first heart transplant and then through the transitional years in South Africa, helped make this book come alive in a very real and enriching way for me. Definitely my best read of the year.

Interesting and inspirational

Dr. Walker presents his story in a journey that progresses from his fierce anger with God to his love and dependence on Him—all this encapsulated between the death of his brother and the death of his wife. What a journey! The transformation that occurs in his walk with and understanding of God are bookended by these events and filled between with a myriad of remembered moving and interesting anecdotes of his personal and professional life. I was eager to read each episode to the next and found myself quickly at the end of the book before I even wanted to be there. I highly recommend this book for pure inspiration and insights.

Great testimony.

I very much enjoyed this book. I appreciated the doctor's insights and conclusions. I understand that God has a plan, but sometimes I felt very sad that we don't understand the plan and are left thinking that God is going to do what He is going to do; our prayers are ineffective. I can't help thinking that a few obvious miracles would help give us courage. The doctor's faith is obviously greater and I am happy to have his example.

What a testament to God.....

Absolutely loved this book. Forgive me for saying this Dr. Walker. But, in my experience, it is so hard for me to actually believe that there are such physicians. Most of them wouldn't mention God if their lives depended on it - for fear of looking foolish (?)... This book is a testament to a great faith in God and I loved every word I read. If only I could hear a doctor say such things to me, it would certainly bless me and strengthen my faith in professionals. I don't mean to demean in any way here, I've never even heard a doctor mention God. I'm sure there are, of course, just never experienced it. I love My Lord and it gratified me so much to hear a doctor who cares enough about his patients to pray for them and with them - praise God! Will look to see if there are more books by Dr. Walker - can't recommend this book enough for anyone wanting to know more about answered prayer......

Ten star book

This is definitely a ten star book. It is completely wonderful. It tells the extraordinary story of an anesthesiologist who practiced around the world and of the often miraculous events that he and his patients experienced as he prayed with them in the ICU. There were improbable healings, some occurring almost instantly, others over time, but there were also deaths, including deaths of children. What the author discovered, in his journey of faith, was that God cared deeply for each and every patient, no matter the eventual outcome, and used the committed physician to minister that love to others. Many of the stories related are deeply moving, telling of the desperately ill and severely injured. Even in the most tragic situations, patients and their families were filled with gratitude for the passion with which the author shared his faith. This is the story of a man who dared to trust in God and who had the immense courage to lay bare that trust before a watching world.

LOVED THIS BOOK.

When I saw the title, God in the ICU, I knew that this would be a blessing to me. I was not disappointed. The book has helped me in so many ways. I have been struggling with many different things especially recently. The book was therapeutic. If you are dealing with difficult problems, I believe that you will see that God is with you during these times and you will realize that God has been with you all the time.

So inspirational

As a Christian and retired from working in the paramedical field, I wanted to read what this man had learned and seen during a life of service as a physician and a believer. He related fascinating stories of what he has experienced. The loss of his wife was touching. I marveled at how she continued to be so joyful and a light to so many others as she endured chemotherapy. Suffering with your loved one through that is beyond difficult, I know. I thrilled at the epilogue and especially that the simple prayer to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior was included. It really is so much simpler than many think it is. God is love. God is in control, even or perhaps especially in the tough times of life. Simply put your faith in him and let him work through you. Highly recommend this book to everyone!

Surprised change in me

This 82 year old widowed missionary never expected to see a new direction from reading your book. You encouraged me to feel that life was not over and ministry was not done with your stories of God answering prayer. I am encouraged by your many examples to trust God for a way to continue ministry to hospice with prayer. Thank you for blessing me through your writing.

Extremely Encouraging

I didn't want to put this book down each time I read it. The stories were extremely encouraging to me that God is moving each time I pray - even if I don't see the answers manifested in MY desired timing. The love and goodness and faithfulness of God was seen in each story - whether the outcome was what Dr. Walker hoped for or not. I am very, very grateful for this book and feel my life has been deeply touched and changed by it.

A readable real medical life story and religious life story.

Dr Walker has written a resonant story of a medical life. Although understandably episodic - one can only remember highlights of the thousands of patients treated in a medical career - it summarizes a varied medical career well, and emphasizes the forgotten role of anaesthetists and intensivists. It is well-edited for the layperson. But its main goal is not to recount Dr Walker's career, but to show how he felt the God that he serves worked through and along with him, sometimes in ways that seemed strange or unsatisfying at the time, but ultimately all appeared to have purpose. It is a refreshing and realistic counterpoint to the name-it-and-claim-it, everyone-gets-healed-if-you-say-the-right-words popular theology of many television evangelists. Instead, it gives meaning to the effort of the medical workers who work with their God, and sometimes don't understand why God works in the way God does. I enjoyed reading it (though at times I personally wished for more technical detail) because it seemed to match my own working experience, and I felt challenged to emulate the closeness of the author to his God.

"One of the Best Books I've Ever Read"

This was bought as a Christmas present and given to my parents, and I didn't have time to read it myself as it arrived shortly before I had to drive up for family Christmas. However, my dad reported subsequently that it is "one of the best books I've ever read," and he does not give book praise lightly. They said the stories were at times humorous, frequently inspiring, always relatable. He is not medical, she is, so it read well for those both with and without medical background.

What a blessing!

It's so encouraging to read how God has used other believers and shown Himself in their lives. I was so blessed by the author's experiences that I wanted my husband to hear the book as well. So I read it to him, a chapter at a time, over a couple road trips in our car. We both cried over the tough and touching situations and were excited about the many answers to prayer. This is a wonderful book to help you grow in your prayer life and trust in God's love and faithfulness.

Absolutely inspirational

This book has inspired me to stay close to god almighty. Reading the various incidences of healing through prayer and faith in God, has now given me given me a completely new perspective of what is really important in life, and to not take life for granted. The Author is obviously a man of God and has quite ably used both his professional and spiritual skills to heal others, both physically and spiritually. And even though he eventually lost his wife, his faith in God remains strong. The book is well written ,easy to read and indeed could be a life changer to any one who may read it.

Taking a walk with God who Intensely Cares for U.

God in the ICU by Dave A Walker Picture God with Adam and Eve in the Garden. Imagine His delight as the beauty of His creation takes their breath. I’m sure He loved answering their questions and spending time together simply walking in the cool of the day. They walked among wild beasts of prey, yet they were unafraid. They most likely passed the tree of the knowledge of good and evil that would one day take their lives away, yet they did not stray. If you can imagine that, you can catch a glimpse of the heart of this book. God in the ICU is like taking a walk with God. Sure there are wild beasts in the ICU. Sickness and disease and wounds and temptation and sorrow…but Dave A Walker shows how to walk right on through hand in hand with God of the ICU, the God of Intensive Care for You. This book isn’t sugar and spice and everything…no, it raw and true and drips with the knowledge of good and evil. Dave doesn’t pretend to know all the answers and he doesn’t spare the details about when the only answer was, trusting, The Answer. The journey starts with a death that spirals Dave, like us, to wonder how a loving God could allow such things and ends with a death that brings life as only God could do. His heart bleeds to the page as he opens the curtain to the most intimate times with his wife “like a weeping jewel—exquisitely precious in its intimacy, yet so painful; so close, yet so crowded with unfinished…” God in the ICU will leave you feeling like God is near, as close as a whispered prayer. And knowing that He truly is the God who Intensely Cares for U.

A Good Read

Hard to find anything wrong with an accomplished professional who comes to realize, respect, and invite the help of the Great Physician. That said, I am not sure it would appeal to the more cynical among us but I found it heartwarming.

Inspiring story of a compassionate doctor and a powerful God

God in the ICU is a highly readable book, a series of gripping and palpable narratives from which Dr. Dave Walker offers the reader consistently powerful and discerning insights into God’s love, God’s healing, God’s answers to prayer, and God’s eternally meaningful purpose in a world that often seems to us to be filled with meaningless tragedy. As he shares his captivating story of how God lovingly brought purpose and relationship into his life, Dr. Walker lays before the reader a sense of the hopelessness and meaninglessness of both the high points and the heartbreaks of life when God is presumed to be absent from these events. Juxtaposed against this discouraging misconception is the glorious reality presented by Walker – that we may know and feel our loving God to be present and in control even as we live through the reality of a situation that doesn’t have the apparent ending for which we may have been hoping and praying. Dr. Walker looks back on both the triumphs and tragedies experienced along the path of his life, and he shares with the reader how he has come to see and understand the loving, powerful, and ever-present hand of God at work at all points along the way. Dr. Walker tells us that he now knows that God was always bringing him exactly to the place where God wanted him to be. From his vantage point as an accomplished and experienced physician, Dr. Walker makes no claim that we will always understand the “higher ways” of our God, instead he forcefully asserts that we can always trust in God’s love, presence, and plan. In God in the ICU, we are shown the incredible power of prayer in real life situations, along with poignant reminders that God alone is sovereign. Dr. Walker, using one heart-touching example after another, shows us that prayer is not a talisman of sorts with which we may indiscriminately wield the power of the God of the universe to bring about our own human goals and wishes. Instead, this brilliant physician shows us that prayer brings us into God’s loving and comforting presence, where we are given the holy privilege of laying our situation and our needs into His powerful arms, knowing that He will invariably act lovingly on behalf of his precious children. Dr. Walker explains that we may joyfully see God heal miraculously, or we may experience God’s fathomless comfort and presence in times when God does not bring the healing for which we pray. In chapter 11, Dr. Walker also powerfully shows us how prayer is always a part of God’s plan for us and that we are often a part of the same plan. Dr. Walker says, “When we pray, we should also be listening. Might it be that we could be the answer to our prayer?” This book is the story of a remarkable life. God brought Dr. Walker so close to Himself that Dr. Walker was able to truly be God’s ambassador to those critically ill patients under his care. How many of us have longed for a doctor who would first explain the need to pray to us and then proceed to take the time to pray with us, carrying our particular situation before our mighty God? After this incredible ministry, time and again we see Dr. Walker then set out to skillfully do all that was possible with the tools of modern medicine to care for his patients. Dr. Walker’s patients were blessed to have him pray for them and to care for them. We are even more blessed to read of God’s healing, prayer-answering work through His servant Dr. Dave Walker.

Enjoyed

As a born again Christian, this book helped my faith soar. God wants to heal, but when He doesn't we can still trust Him. This man's spiritual walk ran the gamut from anger in the beginning to a joy in God's response to prayer by healing even impossible cases. His writing style showed his heart for patients and his own spiritual progress. Actually, this review is more stuffy than his book!

A very inspirational book. Dave Walker is honest with the questions every believer has probably asked.

By asking the question, "God, where are you?" As the author explains he did. He makes it clear that the Love of God is certain. Even in death as some of his patients passed on in the love of God. Very inspiring and strangely comforting. "My thoughts are not your thoughts, my ways are not your ways". Makes all the difference.

Very inspirational book

This is a wonderful inspirational book. Easy to read. I really enjoyed how the doctor took me through the ICU and explained the procedures. He prayed for patients and some that were not his patients and the families. And prayers changes things. If you believe in God this book will strengthen your faith. And if you do not believe in God it will inspire you to become a believer.

Amazing to See the many testimonies

I originally read this book to help me figure out if the medical field was for me and after reading it I knew that I couldn't emotionally handle working in this field. However, I was blessed abundantly to see how God worked in the lives of the patients and the praying physician. This book built my faith to my surprise since that wasn't the reason I picked it up, but I am glad I did. The stories here show that God is always moving even when we don't get the answer we want which is tough. God bless the author of this book and his prayer life and his goal to share God's love with others!

Inspirational

What awesome stories of God's love and healing power. A great reminder to never give up asking God to heal. Inspirational and realistic as we ask God, but are reminded that not all get healed in the way we hope for and in those times when healing does not come as we expect, and we question where is God. Why didn't He answer? He is still there, and He is still God, powerful and loving. Thanks to the author for sharing this story and of course, to our Heavenly Father.

Wonderful book without hesitation.

Excellent You will never forget this book as it touches your soul. It is a book you can't put down because it is such an emotional experience. Hopefully the reader can be changed and more hopeful about their own challenges in life. ? Recommend book. This book will change your own outlook on life especially during times of personal challenges. You will not forget the experience described in the book.

A Challenge to Pray

Many of us go through life waiting for God to show up, or see a sign that He is real. Dave takes you to his private world and allows us through his experience with praying for critical care patients to see God up close and personal. These stories challenged me to be more prayerful for those who are ill. I don't work in the ICU but I can pray from wherever I am as prayer requests come to me.

Reflection of reality

Sent to me by a christian organisation for prayer. Inspirational reality of how God draws from student days, into completion of studies, realities of tragedy as well as happy marriage and family are described. It is easy to identify with these real life events which ultimately ended in the tragic death of his beloved wife and his journey into China and the work done after his retirement. One senses an authentic account.

Incredible and uplifting

This book was wonderful! A testament to God’s love and faithfulness. I recommend this to anyone who needs to be encouraged in their faith, challenged in there prayer life and inspired to evangelize! This book is a living testimony that God can use anyone who is willing to step out of their comfort zone and be obedient to his leading. Please read this book it will bless you!

Honest

I would have loved this book in my early teens. It's a good book, but I think written ' like a man's short and to the point. I still recommend it, but for younger or early Christian seekers of miracles. My opinion only. If I had any like that I would get it for them immediately.

Fantastic

What a wonderful and blessed pleasure to have read this book! It was and will always be one of the absolute best reads I've ever had. It soothed my heart and soul and I will be using it as a reference guide in the future... Best regards, Deanna 🙏⛪❤

An uplifting read!

This is a collection of short patient stories of God's work in the lives as their doctor prayed with them & for them. Not all were healed but all were touched. If you want your faith to be strengthened and praise to resound in you, then you will probably enjoy this book.

Refreshing

This book was refreshing in its honesty. Dr Walker did not shy away from sharing incidents in which persons were not healed but communicated about God's faithfulness in spite of the outcome. It was a hopeful and very positive book which blessed me, although it was not filled with happy-ever-after stories. It was difficult to put down!

A very thoughtful and encouraging book

This is a very honest book about the author's journey of faith. It proceeds from hard-boiled skepticism to belief in God to a prayerful ministry for his patients. Not every story has the kind of happy ending that we may envision, but the author still sees God's gracious hand at work in all of them. I'd recommend this very readable account to anyone.

good things

This book is so inspiring. Read about real happenings, be encouraged by the work God does today.

Beautiful love story

Outstanding book. Personal testimony and witnessed testimony centered around a man who responded to the call good put in his heart. This is a beautiful love story about how Good loves and uses His people in various situations.

the faith of prayer and the results achieved

This book was very interesting, showing the life o the doctor with the many medical situations that arose, it helps us to understand.,the highs and the lows of those facing the medical situations and the difference prayer can make., Strength gained through the sharing of prayer is something we can all do to help us through a difficult time

Wonderful book

I loved this book. I found his adventures in life to be heartwarming and compelling about his faith in god. It is not easy to keep the faith when tragic events befall you! . His siting of scripture was very helpful to me.

To Believe

This book is for those who live a faith based life and for those who dont, but wonder how on earth anyone could believe in God/Jesus Christ. It is also a good read for those like me who are going thru a "weak spell.". This has been a great book for me to strengthen in my faith again. A must read.

My life with God as my pilot

Boy what a book,I love this book it is so true I have experienced God at work in my own life, God has saved me from drowning I had hit my head on the bank as I slipped in the water. I have two doctors that pray before operating too

Well-written account of a physician’s experiences in Africa.

Well written story of a physician’s adventures in native African communities. Being a physician myself I can relate to his experiences. I would like to meet him and talk “shop”.

This book is such a blessing!

This book is so edifying to those of us who follow Jesus and also employed in healthcare. The author is candid with disappointments he encountered both personally and professionally. And yet Jesus was in him and with him to see him through his trials. Jesus is more than enough! Our current healthcare system needs more praying practictioners.

Lord bless you, Dr. Walker!

I prayed to the Lord that when time comes for any of us to be in a hospital, there will be a doctor who prays with us, as you have done. What a huge blessing you were and still are to your patients and those around you. Thank you for your love that shines through Christ our Lord!

So impressed by ministry in the workplace

While serving as a teacher in a Christian school, we are encouraged by management to pray for our students. I have been challenged to at least pursue personal relationship with our loving Heavenly Father; amazing what Dr Walker, in a humble way, reports of the loving interventions in critical moments. Much appreciated this book!

Marching onward to the glory of our saviour

We felt that we were at the bed side listening in on procedures and the mined set of the Doctor doing his work and we felt the presence of the spirit of the lord in his concern for each and every patient and circumstances he faced either at work or talking and praying for his patients what a blessing to our Heavenly Father,What a great book to read thank you The keeper

Awesome!

This book was so stupendous.. I am a spiritual person who totally believes in God and his son Jesus Christ. I am partially blind from amd, but was so glad I could finish this book and leave a response.

Inspirational Journey

This book was very well written. I was impressed with the MD authors diligence in retelling many years of medical cases. Mixed in with these interesting medical situations was a heartfelt spiritual journey. Well done. I am a nurse and found his experiences amazing. Well written

Very Good Book!

This was a great book and well written. The true stories were exciting and heart warming. The power of prayer is an amazing thing. It was exciting to see God answer some amazing prayers, but Sometimes our prayer is not God’s will.

Yeah!

Ok so maybe as a medic and not a doctor, I shouldn't say this but I oh so get the whole there is no medical reason for life when there is. Seen God's work too many times when science tells us it is impossible. Yeah God is good. He is here. He cares.

Knowing the faces of God

Faith beyond believes of the work of God in our favor even if we don’t understand what is he doing. I recently watch a dear friend lost her baby girl and the despair that comes is related with the chapter of the Egyptian girl described. But even there God was there loving and caring even if we don’t understand.

WONDERFUL READ

I was looking for something to read that was spiritually uplifing and inspiring. Well this book fit my needs perfectly. This true story of a Dr. Of Anesthesia was packed full of real life struggles and inspiration thru the love, faithfulness and redemption of Jesus Christ. For anyone needing to see examples of how God works everything for our good regardless of outcome will not be disappointed.

Inspirational!

This book was inspirational and helped redirect my focus on the God who heals. Most importantly, it reminded me of the importance role of prayer.

The Power and Love of God

I was captivated from beginning to end! This book is convicting, powerful, and heartfelt! The journey that the author shares is not your average doctor's life. How this world would be changed if EVERY person regardless of position in life had a relationship with Jesus te way Dave does! Thank you Dave for your boldness for Jesus and your transparency. This book is a must read for everyone.

Such a good book about God using an Anesthesiologist to heal people through his obedience to pray.

The book appears to have not been proofread or edited very well but it doesn’t really take away from the content. It’s a good book!

Great book

Starts a little slow then gets better. In this book you will join the doctor on his spiritual journey and grow with him too. God does indeed work in the life of His followers.

Factual not spiritual

The style of writing I did not find inspirational even though all the examples of God's hand in healing were present.

God in the ICU

Dave's story will uplift all who are searching for comfort and peace in the midst of pain, sickness, and questions about their life's journey.

Awesome..awe inspiring follower of Christ !

The humble heart of this dr. Was a beautiful example of one who trusts Jesus with the lives he was tending to as a physician .

Amazing read! Meant for anyone who ever doubted God’s existence

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author shares his miraculous experiences as a doctor. This book confirms that God really does answer our prayers when we make an effort to talk to him. Science may not always have all the abilities that God may have. I have begun building my relationship with God after reading this book. Amazing!

Faith building for medical professionals

Dr. Dave did a fabulous job of writing this book. From his days as a doubting man to becoming a powerful prayer warrior of deep faith , this inspiring book is great, especially for those in the medical field. As a nurse, I prayed with and for my patients for 2 decades, and I can attest to the power of Jesus' redemptive, healing, and protective power in my profession. You can glean strength and wisdom for your own life from this book.

An inspirational book... ..

I found the book inspirational and very interesting. Being a retired nurse I could easily relate to the situations and circumstances and I could reflect on some of my own experiences. Thank you for writing this lovely book.

Thanks Dr Walker!

As I read this book, I thought about how comforting it would be to have a praying Christian doctor. Dr. Walter's book inspires me to be more compassionate towards others by praying for them. I appreciated that every prayer wasn't answered as hoped but God's will and presence prevailed.

Inspirational

Reading about this doctor’s journey of faith as he dealt with both failures and successes was a true blessing and faith builder.

So Encouraging!

As a fellow believer in Jesus Christ and the Christian faith, and as one who desires to further my medical education from RN to DO, I was so encouraged by this book. I had so many questions that this book answered, even down to the very day I asked them. I loved the fact that every ending wasn't a fairytale, depicting the raw emotion of medicine when dealing with the sick and I also love how God was able to teach Dr. Walker a lesson that he so graciously shared in each example given in his book. I will be re-reading this book over the course of my life and am confident that God will continue to speak to me through Dr. Walker's experience! I recommend this read 100%!

Very good book

I loved this book. I always love how the Lord heals and comforts the lonely. I will recommend this book. It was so touching.

Developing a deep love for others.

This book will show you how to develop a deep love for others thru prayer. I came to understand why our prayer is not always answered the way we want. I loved this book.

Author is a talented and gifted writer

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire book, and every experience he described. He is apparently a good doctor, and clearly a good writer. This book is interesting and so inspiring. . (Not too crazy about his second book, though.)

Refreshing

I would recommend to all working on a medical environment. We need to recognize that we need to bring all our God given abilities to patients, but the outcomes are in God's hands; he does amazing things.

Awesome

Wonderful book. The stories are amazing. I learned so much from them. It helped me to accept the fact that even though we may prayer for someone's healing & we know God answers prayers , God knows what is best. At first we might not understand why healing does not occur, but if we look closely we will see God goodness. God is always with us. I plan to reread this book many times. Thank you Dave Walker MD. Silvia Robinson

Touching story of an icu doctor

This is a great read and a Christian book that balances triumph with thd fact that things do not always work out as you had hoped. Highly recommended

Deeply moving, poignant, uplifting. A definite 5 Star Read for me!

I read this heart warming, (and heartbreaking) memoir in 2 sittings, as I found after each story, I needed to spend quiet time in reflection of the lessons each one contained. For anyone who is searching to truly understand God, there are many answers to be found in this wonderfully honest compilation from Dr Walker’s life in hospitials across the world. The miracles are not always as expected… people die, but miracles are to be found not only in healing and living, but in healing and dying. I found myself in tears several times, deeply touched as I was by some of the stories. Dr Walker has a gift of telling his stories with simplicity and honesty, out of which comes a shining clarity and the message that God is always with us, He is always listening, and He never, ever deserts us. It is only that we think He has deserted us by our failure to truly listen; to hear Him. But the truth is, God is with us every moment. I am not a ‘religious’ person, having declared myself an ex-Catholic many years ago, but my belief in God never waned. This book resonated very deeply with me because it exposes the human spirit, in all its glorious power and frailty… including the author’s own times of pain and doubt… but he found his way back to the love. Just as God intended. If you are looking for God, you will find him in the pages of this book. I loved it and look forward to more from this author. Maria McMahon Author, Law of Attraction Shortcut Secrets & A Pocketful of Thank You

Wow! I will be recommending this book forever!

What a wonderful book. I love how Dr.Walker discusses how he experiences God personally. If you have never had that feeling it’s hard to explain. When Gods love washes over you and you know he’s listening it’s a wonderful feeling. In his book many miracles are performed, but thank you Dr.Walker for not leaving out the prayers that were not answered. Sometimes we pray and he doesn’t answer them the way we want... but His ways are higher than ours. I’ll be recommending this book to everyone! This book builds your faith!

Inspiring story of a man's faith and then stories of how God worked through prayer

I came across this audiobook as I was looking for something to listen. This peeked my interest as I am a respiratory therapist and work in a hospital. First of all, I must say that I love the fact the author himself reads this book and he has such an attention-holding voice. He is honest about his life and how he blames God for some of the tragedies in his life. The you begin to see how God was drawing him to Himself. I loved hearing about his life and then, in the second part of the book, real stories of how the God of the Bible worked through prayer in his path. I could not put this audiobook away. I would get off of a 12 hour shift and lay listening to it until I fell asleep. Then I would pick it back up as soon as I awoke. It is one of those kinds of books! You will be inspired and encouraged! It is a great gift for someone in the medical field. This can be used as a witnessing tool as he gives "an invitation" at the end of the book. I plan on giving to several co-workers. You will not be disappointed with this book so don't hesitate to read/listen to it! I am so glad I did!

Inspirational Stories Told by a Wonderful Storyteller

Dr. Dave Walker narrates his own audiobook version of God in the ICU, which is extremely enjoyable to listen to as he has a South African accent. I also am a missionary physician and surgeon, and one who has prayed for his patients consistent over the prior quarter century. Dr. Walker's stories resonate with my own experiences, and I found tears streaming down my face as I listened to him tell these stories. This is such an honest presentation of the reality of prayer as it relates to patient care. It also serves as a reminder to me to pray more often and more consistently with all of my patients.

More than a good read, an faith builder

There may be "no atheists in foxholes"; there are certainly few in the intensive care unit of a hospital. However, for the same reason a recent Air Force chaplain was criticized for quoting former U.S. Military Chaplain William T. Cummings, many Christians are reticent to invoke the name of Jesus in a public hospital even in darkest days. God in the ICU, by Dave Walker, is the story of one doctor who found the courage to pray publicly and privately over his patients and saw the miraculous efficacy of prayer. Dave Walker wasn't always bold in his faith. In fact, the story starts with a humble retelling of his first years as an anesthesiologist at a hospital in South Africa. Following a series of personal losses, Walker doubted God's existence and, if there was a God, certainly doubted His character. Like so many of us, Walker's heart cried out, "How can a loving God let things like these happen?" But that's only the beginning. God re-introduced Himself to Walker in a very personal way. As he began to grow in his faith, Walker felt supernaturally compelled to pray over his patients. It started slowly, one at a time, then intercession became a habit. Not only did he pray quietly in the operating room, but he asked his patients personally if he could pray with and for them. He approached grieving and terrified family members, asking again if he could pray with and for them. The first part of Walker's book tells his own story of reawakening to the God of love, the God of miracles and the God who is sovereign over even the most painful circumstances. The last two thirds of, God in the ICU, tell a wide variety of individual stories. Walker recounts supernatural, instantaneous healings as a result of prayer. He tells of finding and sharing the comfort of Father God in the midst of long drawn out illness. He describes how prayer transformed difficult relationships. Perhaps most importantly and most applicable to the reader, Walker tells how, through prayer, his own spirit was quickened to hear, understand and obey the promptings of the Holy Spirit, even when they seemed contrary to logic. This book is much more than a good read. Personally, it created a hunger in me to learn to speak to God in such an intimate way. Walker is an excellent writer with unique metaphors and poignant descriptions. I couldn't put the book down. It is remarkably entertaining, but simultaneous it reaches the reader on a much deeper level. Walker's book directs immense glory to God. He reminds us of God's majesty in the fantastic creation of human bodies. Walker highlights God's unparalleled goodness and mercy. He tunes our ears to God's voice and our points our eyes to search for God's good purposes in all things. Finally, God in the ICU is a bulwark against anxiety concerning evangelism and intercession in public places. Walker proves that God is in our darkest hours, in the moments when we need intensive care. He cannot be banished, and it is only to our good that we acknowledge Him, praise Him and point to Him. God alone brings healing and God alone is our salvation. Let us take courage and follow Dr. Walker's example boldly bringing God, through prayer, into every moment of our lives. [...]
