Florence: What to Love

It has been said that all the great art is in Italy and . . . it's all in Florence! If your skeptical, spend a week in Florence and you'll come home a believer. Compared to Rome, Florence is a small city but what a beautiful city. Spend at least one day getting up early, visiting a small cafe for the aroma of fresh coffee brewing and a fresh backed baguette. Then walk around this beautiful, friendly city. Be sure to wander past the Basilica of St. Croce and mingle with the crowd admiring the architecture of this magnificent church (It could never be built today when you consider the cost) Same goes for the wonderful Basilica of San Marco. And, if you only visit one of the museums, make it the Museum dell'Opera. Walk all around Donatello's Mary Magdalena; it stands on a pedestal in the middle of the room and it's one of Donatello's masterpieces carved in wood and stands about six feet tall and will take your breath away. If you're Catholic, it's exactly as you imagined Magdalena in old age wandering in the desert. But, do yourself a favor and be sure to allow enough time to visit all the other magnificent works of art in this beautiful city. Be sure to see Palazzo Vecchio and the plaza by the Florence Hotel. And, don't miss Academia near Piazza San Marco which is chiefly know for housing Michelangelo's David; not to be missed. This book will give you everything you need to know about Florence and you'll want to spend even more time in this magnificent city.

FUN BOOK with Great Information

I liked it very much. She gives great information for people with a variety of interests. I also like Rick Steves, but this author & tour leader also likes glamour & shopping with zest while giving you the discoveries of small intimate boutiques while meeting regular people who work as we do. I am interested in learning about her tours as they sound very fun with a small group. My hat goes off to this vibrant lady who has created numerous businesses with her talents. Outstanding Woman! I recommend this book highly & the one about Italy in general. I wish I had had thes books when I was travelling solo in Italy because it was not easy. Her information is quite valuable for a successful trip.

Read this book closely and you will feel Florence the way she does!

No one seems to capture the true essence of traveling in Italy more than this series of Glam Italia books. Corinna Cooke’s latest book is the perfect travel companion, exactly what you need if you want to really feel Florence, understand the majestic past and avoid the mass tourism present. This book dives deep into the history of Florence, allowing you to imagine life over the centuries, placing yourself in these fantastic streets, amazing structures, an overview of noteworthy things and off the beaten path stops. Constantly pointing out the must sees along with the “not what you would expect” experiences that make Florence so special. Read this book closely and you will feel Italy as she does. Do yourself a favor and take this journey with her, it will enrich your understanding of this incredible city and open your eyes to the magic of Florence.

Florence like you have never experienced.

There are so many exquisite things to see and do in Florence and Corinna Cooke captures it beautifully in her latest travel book. We had the pleasure of traveling through Florence with Corinna on one of her Glam Italia Tours in September 2019. It was before this book release. As I read the book it takes me back there on every page. You get a true sense of the splendor of the architecture and the history that is every where you look. With each page you are transported there. This book is a must read before you go there. Better yet when travel opens up again take a tour with Corinna and experience the city for real. I have been th Florence three time and the last trip was by far with Corinna was the best. I love reliving my trip reading this book. If you have not read her other two books they are a must when planning a trip to Ital. Thank you Corinna for a good read.

Do NOT go to Florence without reading this first!

I am a fan of this author - she knows Italy as if she has lived 1000 years there. Her knowledge of history and every piece of this glorious city will ensure that your trip to Florence is not just another visit to a new place - you will get to truly experience the details, the history, the beauty in the hidden places you would never find on your own. I am planning a trip to Florence (post COVID) and am even more excited now that I know that I will actually EXPERIENCE it - not just visit it!

Must Read! More Than a Guide Book.

This is the second book I have read, I first read the Italia book. I have been to Florence once and can't wait to go back and check out all the incredible things I missed the first time. Corrina's style is engaging and fun and informative. She tells all the real "behind the scenes" info and happenings and the history behind it all. So much fun! This book has been my only way to travel when we can't travel and I have enjoyed it so much. I look forward to exploring all the things she talks about. I recommend this book if you just want to be entertained, if you are curious about Florence, or if you are seriously jotting down notes for your next visit! Have to get the Rome book next. Can't wait!

When You Can Travel To Italy Again Be READY!

I absolutely LOVE all of Corinna's books! I was thrilled when she released this new book still- even after traveling is currently closed. Because even though I cannot go to Florence today, I want to be READY when I can travel again. And I want to dream Italy while I'm stuck at home! Corinna's books are incredibly relevant for anyone wanting to travel to Italy (or dream of Italy)- especially post COVID when avoiding large crowds is essential. She gives you insider information on the unseen, the often overlooked, and most beautiful of locations in such a romantic, hilarious, and fun to read way.

Useful Guide for Planning Trip to Florence

This book was a great resource for planning a trip to Florence. Not only does it go through all the historical sites and art in Florence, but it has a lot of good recommendations for food, drinks and shopping as well. Corinna has obviously spent a lot of time in Florence, and gives you a lot of options for places to get great souvenirs. I also really enjoyed the chapter about the Medici, a family that was very influential in the history of Florence. The chapter is not too dense, but just hits the interesting and scandalous highlights. Definitely recommend this book for anyone planning their itinerary in Florence!

Thorough and entertaining!

I LOVE Italy, especially Florence, and this book covered so much information in an entertaining way. There are the obligatory sites to see in Florence, but Corinna Cooke gives exquisite advice on some of the less popular, but equally magnificent, sites, churches, museums, etc. to see. I can't wait to visit Florence again so I can check out her recommendations.

Lots of great info

This book is SO helpful, if you want to do Florence without being disappointed! I hear so many people who didn't like Florence, and it's because they spent all their time waiting in lines & fighting crowded locations. There is so much more to Florence than that, and this book helps you find it. So many great tips on unusual things to do, instead of just the normal "touristy" spots.

Love her books

She writes straight forward and tells it like it is! I love the unusual and off the beaten tourists path gems she shares. Her love for Italy is wonderful. I liked the quirky anecdotes. Reading her books, I know she is someone I would love to travel with through Italy. You will learn alot about Florence it's history and what to see, helpful to plan your itinerary.

Unique views on Florence

I got hooked with her first book in the series on "How to Travel Italy" and am equally impressed with 101 Fabulous things to do in Florence. It is organized with an easy way to focus on your particular areas of interest and also a great overview of the city. There is an entire chapter of quirky things to look for, and again addresses the practical side of travel as well, such as where to shop, eat, and enjoy an aperitivo. A must read before enjoying Florence!

I love her books!

This is the third Corinna Cooke travel book I have read. If you have any plans to visit Florence, you must read this book first and take with you. I found her books when I researching for an upcoming trip to Italy. I was so impressed, I joined her travel blog and hope to go on one of her tours next year.

Another outstanding book full of insider info from the author who knows ALL about Italy

Corinna Cooke came out with yet another essential travel book for anyone planning to visit Florence as soon as travel is possible! Given this day and age, travel is going to be more valued than ever and I plan to make the very most of every trip. This book does not disappoint and is packed with so many facts, tips, and such smart ideas for traveling through Florence. Avoiding crowds is going to be a priority and Corinna provides so many ideas of amazing things to see that aren't on the beaten path. I'm so excited to bring it with me as soon as I can get to Florence!

Italy like never before

The only book you will ever need for Florence ❤️ (check out her other guide books as well!) seriously, priceless.

Fantastic

I'm traveling to Florence next month and after reading this book I feel ready for my first visit there. Helpful recommendations on tours and what to see that I know I never would of thought to even look for, along with shopping and restaurant spots. If you're going to Florence I strongly suggest reading this book.

An Insider's Guide that is Fun and Wonderful

I went to Florence two years ago and now yearn to return--and I will--with this book in tow. I saw much on my first visit but left things to see and do for next time. And this book offers a ton of options--food, shopping, art, stories, bars, and general fun. I am now ordering another Glam Italia! book.

Wish she would write more books

I absolutely love this series of books! I haven’t been to Italy yet to test out her advice but Corinna’s already inspired me to watch the Medici series 2x on Netflix. I wish she would write guides for Venice and Sicily!

Great book with fun insights.

Looking forward to visiting some of her insights during my upcoming trip to Florence. Fun and easy read!

Caffe Pitti

First place for dinner!! Great book.

Must have guide

Easy to read & so informative

Corrina Cooke: Love her books

I read Corrina’s book on Florence and Rome and visited many of her suggestions. So far she has been spot on as far as my interests are concerned. I made some great purchases based on her recommendations. I’ve always made my own travel arrangements and tours but if I ever were to go on a tour, she’d be the one I would go with. I like her style.

Another winner from Corinna Cooke!!

Although I traveled to Florence about 12 years ago, I’ve always wanted to return. My first trip focused on the crowded tourist spots because, frankly, I didn’t know any better. Now that I’ve read Glam Italia! 101 Fabulous Things To Do In Florence, I will definitely be traveling back to Florence to visit all of the amazing hidden places that Corinna shares in her book. I’m really excited to visit the different artisan shops she discusses in the book, as well as sit and people-watch at some of the lovely rooftop restaurants while sipping a glass of bubbly. I always knew that Florence was famous for its magnificent churches, but had no idea there were so many interesting churches beyond the larger tourist attractions. I will absolutely be adding Ognissanti and Santa Felicita to my travel plans. In addition to revealing all of these hidden gems, the author also provides a fascinating overview of the Medici family so the reader can use that information to better understand the historical significance of many of the sites of interest in Florence. Bravo!!

Different, informative and fun

I have now read all three of this author's books on travel in Italy. I can't think of a single thing that she's covered that isn't useful whether this is your first trip to Italy or your tenth plus the style and organization of the books make them unique and fun. Absolutely worth reading and taking with you.

For a first or return trip to Florence

Corinna gets it right for those traveling on their first or repeat trip to Florence. Her book is a fun read or listen that helps thread together the 'must sees' of Florence that you can customize for your personal preferences. Very helpful during Covid travel times. We have organized our 60th birthday adventure around her suggestions, connections and unique recommendations. Thank you, Corinna!

Love this book!!

This book has it all. It tells you about the history of Florence, which makes the city feel even more special. Corinna makes sure to point out all the special places to see and things to do that you might not find in another travel book. I can't recommend this book enough! It's a must read when planning a trip to Florence!

Great reference guide by seasoned tour guide.

This is a warm conversation in a book. It’s as if you are out to dinner with your best friend sharing her tips. There’s also a “what’s nearby” feature so you can efficiently plan and get the most from where you go. She gets you to off-the-beaten-path and personal favorite places in addition to the expected guide stops. Seasoned tour guide getting real!

Another Fantastic Glam Italia! Book

I love all three of the Glam Italia! books! Corrina Cook never disappoints in pointing out and recommending fabulous places and things to see in Italy! Sadly our trip was cancelled this year due to COVID. 101 Fabulous Things To Do In Florence has me so excited about planning our trip to Italy in 2021. I recommend all three of these books and can't wait for the next one!

Super informative book on Italy!

I am a huge fan of the Glam Italia book series! The author is very knowledgeable about the towns and provides great insight into the smaller, overlooked locations. We cannot wait to visit and use her AMAZING recommendations! A must read for anyone planning to travel to Italy!

GOING TO ITALY? YOU MUST HAVE THE GLAM ITALIA SERIES!

What a fantastic discovery! These Glam Italia guidebooks, effortlessly written by a cool woman who LOVES Italy, are packed with fun and important information. From well-researched and presented history, quirky "rules" unique to Italy, places to avoid and shopping secrets, Corinna Cooke's tips, and expert advice are served up in a chatty, conversational style. You'll feel like she's your trusted friend by the time you finish the first chapter. We are hooked and wouldn't dream of going to Italy without her professional expertise. Best guidebooks out there, in our opinion!

Must have before going to Florence

Just spent two weeks in Florence, had an absolute wonderful time. Used this book to help plan where to go and what to see, great trip planner that was a Big help! FYI, you have to watch the Medici’s on Netflix before going as well, history comes alive. Himyarite recommend!

A MUST READ! EXCELLENT BOOK

Her books are wonderful. Not only do they give you a history lesson behind the sites you will see, she also includes essentials for traveling and getting around so you can plan the most memorable trip possible. This book is jammed packed with valuable information. I am so glad I found these books before our trip and HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU GET THIS BOOK BEFORE YOUR TRIP! If I could give it more than 5 stars I would!

extremely helpful

The history was great, especially for a city like Florence. It put everything into context. The tips on what to buy and where to eat were also great (bought a bag from Jimmy, Francesco Vini and Perche No were great). Not overwhelming and very helpful

Like taking a trip to Florence!

Recently I’ve been missing Italy especially Florence, where I used to live. Because of the Pandemic I’m not ready yet to travel. So, I bought Corinne’s book instead. I was delighted. She took me on a virtual trip! It was as if she were talking to me sharing great tips . Some of my favorites were shared. Vivoli, a gelateria I used to work at, is still there. Corinne is an engaging writer and very thorough. I encourage you to buy her book even if you’re not going. Visit Florence from the comfort of your own home. Just until you’re ready to fly!

Great Info!

Great information in this book. Can’t wait to visit lots of the suggested places during my upcoming trip to Florence.

Bella Firenze!

Can’t wait to visit Florence on my September trip. Thank you Corinna for all the tips!

Love!

Loved Corinna s other 2 books so much and number 3 did not disappoint.! Discovering so many options of things to see and do for my first trip to Florence, especially regarding the lesser known gems is such a treat. As always Corinna is generous with her tips and experience and even better from the female lens. Looking forward to number 4!

Fabulous resource!

I bought this book prior to my first trip to Italy. I was impressed by the amount of research, detail and practical information. The history and knowledge of a Florence made my trip most enjoyable. Also the information and detail about sites, dining and shopping were all terrific!
