Sweet short stories my 2.5 year old loves

My 2 and a half year old loves all the George and Martha books. Each book has 5 stories. They are compact and not overly wordy. G and M do activities that little kids will understand and relate to, like gardening or dancing or swimming, but they are also pretty amusing for adult readers (some are clever, eg, in one book, George sprays Martha with water, Martha is furious, at the end you don't actually see her spraying George back, but you know she does; others are very sweet, eg., Maratha's tulips wont grow in her garden, so George goes to the florist and buys flowers and puts the stems in her garden to cheer her up). They deal with different feelings (sadness, shame, happiness, frustration, etc, but not in a heavy handed way). Get them all!

A great series

These George and Martha books serve up meaningful lessons about friendship with lots of humor that will entertain young and old alike. I read them to my daughter and now to my grandchildren. They are classics. My 4 year old and 6 year old grandkids wanted to me read them over and over again.

Like this One A Lot - a review of George & Martha "Back in Town"

"Back in Town" is a cute book and one of our current favorites. My son (just turned 5) thinks it is absolutely hysterical. My daughter (7) likes it as well but not to the same extent -- in other words she doesn't ask for it to be read three times in a row -lol. "Back in Town" contains 5 stories: The Box The High Board The Trick The Job The Book The Box is about a small box, a label that says "Don't Open", and curiosity. The High Board is about what a friend will do to help you out. The Trick (my son's favorite) is about turning the tables on a prankster. The Job is about how it can be hard to command the respect of one's close friends. The Book is about compassion and friendship. Four Stars. Great Read-aloud. As with all George and Martha books the central theme is friendship in all it's manifestations. Artwork is cute and simple and large. With younger children be prepared to explain what's happening and what the themes are. Mr. Marshall doesn't hit you over the head with them, which has the advantage of giving a children the opportunity to deal with subtlety.

Totally Enjoyable

Another George and Martha creation from James Marshall. Very enjoyable reading, though it seems that the situations are starting to repeat themselves in this series. Still, these five brief pieces are wonderful stories about how friends accept one another's foibles.
