From the first yoga instructor to bring cannabis-enhanced yoga classes to North America, a groundbreaking guide to finding balance in our lives using the ancient method of mixing cannabis with spiritual practice.

Yogis have been using cannabis to enhance spiritual practice for millennia. Today, there is a quiet but growing conversation within the Western yoga community about the potential role of cannabis for modern seekers pursuing a spiritual path. Now, certified yoga instructor Dee Dussault takes this ancient practice mainstream. Ganja Yoga isn’t just mixing cannabis and exercise; it is a ceremony that makes conscious relaxation an intentional ritual that can be enhanced with practice—a lifestyle to help you create a more harmonious and stress-free world.

For some contemporary yoga adherents, marijuana can deepen awareness, acceptance, connection, and relaxation during practice. As state laws loosen and the stigma surrounding marijuana dissipates, cannabis is increasingly seen as a legitimate supplement to increased health and wellbeing. Ganja Yoga explains how to set up a sacred space that allows you to use this relaxing substance with yoga for enlightenment (or at least some awesome stretching and meditation).

Dee walks you through the considerations and best practices for introducing cannabis into your yoga practice, or infusing yoga into your smoking routine. But it’s not about being stoned out of your head—as Dee says, it’s like adding spice to your food. In Ganja Yoga, she explains how to:

  • Reap the benefits of profound relaxation
  • Assume an altered state in a safe, energizing way
  • Deepen the spiritual practice of yoga
  • Reconnect with the body using ancient techniques
  • Select the best setting, time, method of consumption, strains, poses, and breathing techniques to ensure an excellent experience

Whether you want to practice in a class or in the privacy of your own home, Ganja Yoga is your key to reaching a new spiritual high.

Beautifully and honestly written

I am 68 and have MS. I have been a rower since the age of 14 and flew helicopters for 20 years. Both of these pursuits have kept me fit and enjoying life but with consequences as well. I have significant discomfort from too many miles on the river and too many hard landings. In college I did my share of ganja but with my career and other responsibilities weed was not part of my life. I began doing yoga classes twice a week at my gym about 3 years ago but started to slack off due to my competitive nature to try to do every pose perfectly and found my pain and discomfort was not decreasing. Recently, I read a review of Dee' s book in the paper right before I went to visit my son in Boulder. A group of my son's friends had planned a 12K hike and camp out up Mount Evans. We ate a big breakfast with enhanced butter, peanut butter, jelly and almond milk. I was stunned when climbing that mountain I took the lead 3 times and experienced no discomfort then or after. While in Boulder we went to The Boulder Book Store and the first book I saw was Dee' s. Started reading it on the flight back and then bought the ebook once home and loaned the book to my yoga instructor. I "somehow" received a "pen and 2 cartridges" and tuned up before my Tues Yin class. Remarkable! I cannot be more thankful to Dee. Her insight, knowledge and genuine honesty moved me. It feels good to see a path in front of me which has placed yoga and meditation in a wonderful new enhanced light.

Sweet

This is a great book, a pioneering book almost since it is so 2017 that a major publishing house would put out a book about cannabis consumption. As both a cannabis and yoga enthusiast, enjoyed this book. However, as someone who has been partaking in both for a few years, the information in the book wasn't exactly new or groundbreaking. If you are new to yoga or cannabis in particular this is a really helpful and informative book. If you are an old head, you might find yourself skipping a few chapters. I'm still going to rate this 5 stars because we need more pro-cannabis books in the mainstream.

Down to Earth, yet authoritative and informative

Synopsis: Like Ganja Yoga itself, a pleasurable experience Dets.: I'm often turned off by educational texts due to the aloofness of their authors. Not so with "Ganja Yoga": Dee Dussault's voice is supportive and encouraging throughout. Her writing is entirely accessible and "down to Earth", yet authoritative, as it's clearly informed by experience and outside research. I'm SO for more voices on the incredible benefits of cannabis. Indeed, it's not always about "getting high" à la Cheech and Chong; cannabis truly is medicine. "Ganja Yoga" is a great read on both cannabis and yoga for the novice OR experienced practitioner.

Beautifully Put Together

Seriously love everything about this book! Physically, it is beautiful. The book is sturdy yet so light and the green and gold really make it stand out. The content is amazing. As a long time stoner and certified yoga instructor, I still learned so much from this book. Dee's personality defintely comes through and it is any easy, light read while also being super informative. I would recommend to both novice stoners and or yogis and experienced ones alike.

Wished they would have sealed this book so the exterior wouldn’t have been damaged so easily.

Book came covered in weird smudges making it look extremely dirty and used. This is a Christmas gift for someone, so I am not happy with this purchase at all. Honestly don’t even want to gift it at this point.

Smoking Hot Book!

If you are a Yogi and use cannabis (medical or not) - this book is for you! It is full of great information that can enlighten you! It has great illustrations and is an overall terrific read!

Thoughtful Guide to Cannabis

Clear, interesting exploration of an ancient and modern practice. Broader than the title suggests. Convincing for those as yet unpersuaded as to our need for this plant. Highly recommended.

This is a great gift to give yourself or someone else. Easy to read and understand.

Thank you Dee!

This book was very well written, and helpful. I feel prepared to teach my own version of "enhanced yoga" for M&M patients here in FL. I'm super excited to share some of what you wrote with my students. Great Book!

🧘♀️ 🌿🥰

Very cool book. Visually appealing, great coffee table book and full of great info!

Novelty item

This book really doesn’t give a heads up into what they actually do in Gamja Yoga classes.

Good information.

Good information.

What a joy to read

Dee effortlessly describes both the foundational aspects of yoga and cannabis as a spiritual and physical tool. What a joy to read, It is a true inspiration to be presented with such a well rounded primer for such a promising pairing. I can't say enough about this book and its author.

Happy yoga son

A christmas present for 29 year old son. He says he loves it!

Better than had hoped

Better than had hoped! I thought it may be a bit of a goofball stoner book, but Dee is a very good writer and the book is more comprehensive than expected.

Love this book!

Love this book

Love this book! It's so well written, in that it feels like an easy to consume instructional guide for novices--like myself--on practicing "enhanced" yoga. I reads like a fun text-book with useful tips, interesting anecdotes, and a historical context of Ganja Yoga that I was unaware of. I really want to take a class with Dee Dussault now... Must read for lovers of yoga, ganja, or both!

love it

ganja + yoga is always a good time

Ganja Yoga Works!

A very good book with lots of insight. W/we've tried it and love it so W/we are looking forward to implementing this into O/our yoga practice!!!

A beautiful relationship, brilliantly researched

As someone who has been in the “book” business for over 30 years, I can be tough to impress. This book is genius, the perfect marriage, and whomever at Harper Collins saw fit to come knocking on Ms. Dussault’s door, should be promoted. This subject is actually a beautiful love story. The two characters, Yoga and Ganja, like gods creating a harmonious world. I would like to dream that this rich saga ameliorates the ganja stigma. Dussault knows her subjects. She shares the importance of biomechanics, slow, focused, intended, movement and the history of ganja and the health benefits of this ancient practice. Remarkably well-researched, the Reference section is 19 pages!! Yeah, research team! Thank you, Dee Dussault, for an accessible, informative, ground-breaking book!! Namaste MF

Decent book, aside from not understanding what yoga is

Very interesting book. However, when the author gives a very confused and colonialist history of what yoga is (in attempt to "clear some things up about yoga" no less), it makes me wonder how accurate or researched the rest of the book is. Though not explicitly stated, the author is clearly misinformed and has fallen under the recent propaganda that yoga is European and that Niels Buhk, literally a Danish Nazi, is its true inventor. This hypothesis only shallowly understands yoga and completely disregards well documented history of multiple cultures which go back thousands of years,in favor of giving credit to a literal Nazi. In this day and age, this type of thing is especially upsetting. Just another in a recent line of "demystifying" Hinduism and trying to make it more marketable. Quite disrespectful.

Easy read & an educational look at a cannabis enhanced practice!

Love this easy to read book! This book provides a groundbreaking look into the world of cannabis enhanced yoga practices! I was thrilled to learn the wide array of benefits of cannabis & yoga. The author brings you along for a chill ride educating readers on how to use cannabis as a beginner, to spiritual ties that yoga & cannabis share. She covers ways to explore the practice, and even has a few meditations included in the book.

Dussault provides clear, readily accessible information for yogis and cannabis lovers about the history, health benefits, and practice of cannabis enhanced yoga. As the first Westerner to offer enhanced public classes, Dussault has long experience working with the plant to bring new levels of relaxation and visionary experience to her asana. Meticulously sourced and clearly written with a charming voice, this book is a must for any lover of yoga or cannabis. You will not look at either the same way after viewing.

Very informative and helpful

Inspiring.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. Incredibly informative, insightful, and mind-opening. If you’re interested in either cannabis, yoga, or are just looking to expand your consciousness in some way - this is for you.

My personal book of the year

Fantastic read, life changing, absolutely worth the price. Hope there will be more books about this topic!

Enjoyed the read

Enjoyed the read. The writing style is conversational and the subject really makes you think about North America's relationship to weed.
