I started following Sam Turnbull and her blog "It doesn't taste like chicken" about a year ago. I found her on social media and was mesmerized by not only the creations she featured but her wonderful, bright and happy personality that I challenge anyone not to love! I tried a couple of her recipes and they were an immediate hit so I joined one of her Facebook cooking classes. Everything I made, without exception, was an instant hit with everyone who tried it. Her tips and tricks were invaluable as well. I knew I had to have one of her cookbooks and what better way to start than with 101 Everyday Comfort Food Favorites, Veganized (and tasting significantly better than the non-vegan dishes they replaced). This book is now the only cookbook I use, period. The recipes are so amazing and easy to follow that I will definitely be buying more of her cookbooks in the future. Every single dish I've made has turned out perfectly and as stated above significantly better than what I used to make. This book makes it a sin NOT to become a vegan JUST based on how good everything tastes! Her marinara recipe is my forever go to recipe. Better than any store bought sauce and ready in 30 minutes with just a few simple ingredients, you absolutely can't go wrong with this sauce. It doubles nicely as a pizza sauce as well. I've tried many others (all great) but last night was the pièce de résistance, I made her lighter vegan version of alfredo sauce using cauliflower and it was THE richest, THE creamiest, THE absolute tastiest alfredo I've ever had at home or any restaurant! OMG I will be dreaming of this sauce forever and so much better for you that the whole cream and butter version! Topped with her vegan parmesan topping, you'd be blown away! I'm guessing you get the idea. Buy this book, like even if you aren't planning to become vegan. It's so good your meatless Mondays will never be the same and may spill into Tuesday (dare I say Wednesday?). Sam is without a doubt a genius in the kitchen.
Very pleased
My book was just as described -- very good - like new. I am pleased.
Who knew vegan food can be so beautiful!
Easy, beautiful, various, delicious and healthy. All you want your food to be!
Excellent Condition
I never usually leave book reviews and I wanted to take the time for this special order. Seller violet33 did an amazing job. My book arrived in cute wrapping paper with a bow and all edges completely intact. I can appreciate someone who goes above and beyond for customer service. Regarding the book itself I already own the e-version and have nothing but good things to say. Great experience and product all around!
Sam Turnbull can do no wrong!
Oh my gosh, as a new vegan, Sam Turnbull is an absolute treasure!! I found her blog just a week before this cookbook was released and I was instantly hooked, not just by her and her excellent writing, but also by her recipes! I have always been a very picky eater so going vegan always seemed incredibly daunting to me. I never thought I'd be able to find enough foods that I liked. But thanks to Sam and this book, I'm not scared anymore! Now I know that anything you can eat, you can eat vegan! Now focusing on the cookbook: it is fabulous! It is written in Sam's usual adorably fun style. Every recipe is accompanied by a beautiful full-page photo. Even though I'm a very picky eater, this cookbook has me excited to branch out and try new things! And I absolutely love that it's not just a strict "cookbook". She also gives advice on grocery shopping as a vegan, what's good to keep stocked at your house, replacements for common non-vegan cooking ingredients, and even recipes for staples like vegan cheeses, mayo, whipped cream, etc! None of the ingredients are super crazy or rare, I've been able to find almost everything at my local Kroger. The only thing they haven't carried so far is white miso paste which I was able to find at Walmart! So obviously pretty easy ingredients. And the recipes themselves are truly fuss-free! So far I've made the banana bread, chocolate chip cookies, and the braised tomato burrito (I can't remember her exact name for it.) I don't like banana bread but I make it for my boyfriend who said that it was the best banana bread I've ever made - way better than any non-vegan version. The chocolate chip cookies were absolutely to die for, they were gone the same day I made them! Finally, the burrito was honestly not quite as good as I was expecting but I think that's honestly mainly a mental thing because I was freaking myself out over the tofu! And when I say "not as good", I still ate the entire burrito, I think I may just tweak that one next time I try to make it and see if I can't somehow make it more to my liking. I'm getting ready to make the vegan cheeses soon which is what I'm most excited about, because cheese is definitely my barrier food. Overall I would highly recommend this cookbook, whether you're a new vegan like me, have been one for years, or are maybe just interested in incorporating some more vegetables into your diet! It is a cookbook truly anyone can enjoy!
If you want easy, delicious recipes that appeal to even non-vegans, this is it!
I’ve always loved Sam’s recipes from her blog (her Peanut Thai Salad with Grilled Tofu, for example, is my favorite salad) so I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed in her book. And boy, was I right! The recipes are for dishes that seem familiar to most people such as vegan versions of pizza, pasta dishes, blueberry muffins, scones, lemon meringue pie, and even creme brûlée, just to mention a very few (that I can’t wait to try). My husband is vegetarian but not vegan so I was hoping he would find these recipes delicious and so far, he has loved everything I’ve made. In the 9 short days I’ve had the book, I have prepared the Extra Banana-Y Banana Bread (so good but watch the bake time-I slightly over cooked mine though my husband says it is still the best he’s tasted), Best-Ever Waffles (recipe made enough that we froze half and reheated in the toaster oven the next day), Creamy Dreamy Coleslaw, Love Letter French Onion Soup, Absurdly Cheesy Broccoli Soup (delicious flavors-I thickened mine a bit more with potato flakes),Go-To Chickpea Salad, Caramelizd Onion Pizza, Veggie Fried Rice, My Family Favorite Tomato Sauce (made enough for a spaghetti dinner and plenty left over for the pizza recipes), Life-Changing Mozzarella, and Seriously Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies (my husband loved these). And you MUST check out the Carrot Dogs (totally amazing-I swear they taste just like veggie dogs, only better). But I’ve saved the best for last. Her Ah-Mah-Zing Peanut Butter Cookies are mouth-wateringly delicious). I have had to make them twice in one week due to popular demand. So far I have found all the recipes to be easy, accurate, and made with ingredients most vegans have on hand (such as LOTS of cashews) and best of all, appealing to those who aren’t hard-core vegans, such as my husband. As another bonus, all the recipes, have beautiful full-color pictures, so realistic that I found myself trying to wipe crumbs off one of the pages. Just can’t wait to cook my way through the entire book.
This is my absolute favorite vegan cookbook
I probably have 2-3 dozen vegan cookbooks, but this one blows them all away. I really don't understand the one-star reviews at all. They musn't have tried any of the recipes. I only received this cookbook yesterday, and in all fairness I have to say that I've only done one of the recipes myself. It was the "Ooh La La Pastry Wrapped Lentil Loaf". When I showed it to my husband, he said, "Oh, yeah, make that one!" It was fabulous and the flavor out of this world good. This recipe was not fuss free, but it was definitely worth the fuss. It makes 2 loaves, and the second can be kept frozen until the day you have company. Just thaw and pop into the oven for a quick but elegant meal. This is the most labor intensive recipe in Sam's book. Most everything else truly is fuss-free. I thing the best thing about this book is that I am excited to make everything in it...That's the worst thing about the book as well because it's hard to decide what to make next. Sam's recipes for basics are what every vegan needs. This nonsense about running to the store to buy vegan this and vegan that in order to cook fuss-free vegan meals is ridiculous. These basics take only minutes to prepare and they are better for you than the store-bought processed stuff. All in all, Sam's cook book is a real winner and so is her blog, "It doesn't taste like chicken". If you are unsure about spending money for her book, just visit her blog and you will receive dozens of free recipes to try which will convince you that money spent on her book is money well spent. Just so glad I bought this book!
Exactly what I was looking for!
This cookbook is amazing. First thing to know, you need a food processor. And a blender, and a place to get raw cashews. I have been trying to cut dairy out of my diet for the past couple of years but lacked some food replacements that I badly craved. Everything I want to eat I can find in this book, veganized. We have tried four recipes so far and they have all been amazing and a huge help in going dairy free full time. I only wish the dessert recipes used more oils rather than things like vegan butter. That can get really pricey! I suggest you look for recipes like the vegan chocolate chip cookies online with an oil base instead, you just have to pop them in the fridge for a bit to harden the dough and they're much less expensive to make. We did try her cookies and they're great! But they do take almost an entire package of Mykanos butter to make so I will go back to my old vegan cookie recipe next time. Besides this, she has some really solid recipes with mostly easy to acquire ingredients. I find this to be the best vegan cookbook I've ever owned as someone who wants to eat everything I did before, just vegan!
Definitely worth buying
Although I have a couple little qualms, I'm giving 5 stars because overall this is a really high quality vegan cookbook and I'm very glad I bought it. One of the first recipes I tried was her chickpea salad sandwich, which she says is her go-to lunch, so I was hoping it could replace my lunches that I used to eat before going vegan (I loved egg salad and chicken salad). But I didn't think I would be a huge fan because I don't like chickpeas all that much. But omg, this sandwich, I devoured it. It was SO GOOD. My qualms are small: one is that I think some of the recipes don't count as "fuss-free," like the creme brulee for example - I get that it's a pretty simple version, but come on, you need a creme brulee torch. Who has that? I would have left that out of this cookbook to make room for something that the majority of people can make. My other issue is with her baking recipes - Sam doesn't seem to use any kind of egg replacer, and this is a real problem! I don't know how she makes it work, but I tried two of her muffin recipes, and they totally fell apart, which is what happens when you don't use a binder. So then I tried it again and added my own egg substitutes (a powdered egg replacer and some apple sauce), and that did the trick. Overall, I recommend this book!
Amazing Cookbook!
I absolutely love this cookbook! My family is nowhere close to being vegans. My goal in getting this book was to ease my family towards a more plant-based lifestyle without shocking their tastebuds. Sam has great ideas that actually taste great! My teenage son literally lives on mac and cheese, ramen noodles and other freezer crap...it drives me nuts!! I came across her version of macaroni and cheese and decided to try it out on my teenage connoisseur. Wow! my picky eater actually liked it! He was shocked to learn it was good for him. Ok so this in it self had me sold but I wanted to try it out on the rest of the family so I made her cheese and broccoli soup and it was so creamy and delicious. Let me remind you this is all vegan so no cheese was in that meal BUT the texture and flavor had my family fooled. Love it! Plus, many recipes use items I already have in my pantry. I don't have to break the bank buying specialty items. Oh and a huge plus is the recipes are short and sweet so no sweating it out in the kitchen to prepare a fabulous meal. It also helps that each meal has a picture so you at least know how it's going to look in the end. I'm a visual person and this helps a lot.

Fuss Free Vegan is filled with go-to recipes
As an aspiring vegan, I love to prepare yummy meals in my kitchen and, even better, cook with friends. I have collected a dozen or so vegan cookbooks and have a few favorite recipes in each. Except for Sam's Fuss Free Vegan. That’s the book I find myself coming back to more than all my other books combined. Why? Because the recipes are delicious, easy-to follow, quick and easy to prepare. Oh wait.... I guess I'd have to say Fuss Free! And as a cheerful bonus, her sparkly personality shines through in the illustrations, instructions and gorgeous food photos. Thus, Bunnymom (12/26/17 one-star review on Amazon), I must disagree with your negative review. As for me, I find cooking with fresh, whole, plant-based ingredients sparks my creativity and satisfies my soul, while shopping for frozen and mass-produced food does not. I’m truly sorry that you will never experience the joy of cooking from scratch. And that’s ok, although I must wonder why a person who prefers prepared and frozen foods would buy a cookbook at all. And even more perplexing is the fact that you would write a negative and unkind review for this creative chef….. simply because you don’t like to cook with real ingredients. As for your comment on doing “more damage to the cause of veganism than good”, Bunnymom, what exactly is “the cause of veganism” if not practicing the enjoyment of plant foods, whether prepared, frozen or freshly crafted? Smile on your sisters, Bunnymom. We are all striving for first-rate nutrition and there is surely more than one way to skin an avocado.
Such a great cook.
So many recipes. So good and very easy most times.
A healthy, fresh, easy collection of well tested recipes!
This is an amazing cookbook! I’ve been a vegan for 16 years, so I know what works and what doesn’t, what’s healthy and what isn’t, what’s fuss free and what’s fussy. And let me tell you! These recipes are easy, delicious, and healthy! The sweet potato and black bean burrito with avocado/cilantro sauce? Do yourself a favor and make it! You wouldn’t believe something so simple could be this savory, creamy, and craveable! The chickpea salad sandwich? Took me 10 minutes to make a huge batch, and I’ve been eating it for lunch all week! Also, the umami lettuce wraps are divine! I made them for dinner and not only did they only take 30 minutes, but they had a sweet, earthy, inviting complexity that meant we had to have them again the next night! Sam uses a lot of natural ingredients in her recipes. Instead of being told to make or buy seitan (which there’s definitely a place for, don’t get me wrong), you’ll use many different kinds of beans, nuts, grains and veggies. One of the pizza recipes uses sundried tomatoes to mimic pepperoni. And it works! Meaty mushrooms become an important part of Sam’s take on a Philly cheesesteak, and again, it’s great! This is the book I wish I’d had sixteen years ago when I first went vegan. Still, I’m glad I have it now! I’m excited to try even more of the recipes next week!
Easy to follow, almost easier to make - and the taste is great!
About 18 months ago, I moved to a plant based diet. I had a few vegan recipe books, but they were pretty old and the recipes were not that easy to make. And many of the ingredients were either hard to find or expensive or both. So I began to buy the next generation of vegan cookbooks. Some were ok, some were actually awful in spite of great reviews! And then I found Sam's book. Her style of writing is fun and breezy and she makes the recipes easy - an excellent combo only topped off by the delish results of each recipe we have tried. I have some of her tofu "bolognese" cooking right to become part of a pan of baked ziti. My husband and I will be making more of her recipes and for sure I will be buying her new book out in March, 2021. Keep the cookbooks coming, Sam!!
Hands down the best vegan cookbook I have ever bought!
I've been following Sam on Instagram and Facebook since I came across one of her recipes probably around a year ago on Pinterest. I don't even remember what it was that I made, but it was so good that I was instantly a huge fan and couldn't make more of her recipes fast enough. I of course pre-ordered this cookbook when it was first available, patiently waited and it did NOT disappoint! I have made multiple recipes so far including the waffles, creme brulee, layered dip, and chocolate cake. They were all outstanding, like not just good, but amazing! This will probably be the first cookbook that I actually make all the recipes! Why should you buy this cookbook? Let me tell you! I own a couple of the other top vegan cookbooks sold on Amazon. This one is my favorite because all her recipes are EASY to make. There aren't a million ingredients, the ingredients are common and easy to find in stores, and everything always turns out! I have been known for sub'ing things I shouldn't and starting recipes before I make sure I have everything (like I totally put lemon juice instead of lime with the avocodos for the layered dip, but it still turned out phenomenal lol) and not following steps to a T but everything always, always turns out when it's one of Sams recipes! It's like magic! Thank you for this book! I wish I had it when I first went vegetarian but am happy to have it now and definitely look forward to not only making everything in this book but all future recipes you come out with! I wish you much success because you are one person who truly deserves it. Thank you again!
Great cookbook!
I knew of Sam Turnbull’s blog and her recipes there and was excited that she was putting out a cookbook. Like the recipes on her blog, the recipes in the book “veganize” everyday foods. The recipes are simple, don’t have long ingredient lists and are easy to replicate. So far I have made Easiest Gravy in the World, Creamy Dreamy Coleslaw, Tempeh or Tofu, Lettuce, and Tomato Sandwich, Stay-Home Philly Cheese Mushroom Sandwich, and Insanely Good Rice Paper Bacon – all turned out well and were yummy. This is one cookbook that I plan on trying every recipe (Quick and Easy Pho and 15-Minute Peanut Noodles are on tap this week). In the first part of the book Sam explains her background, philosophy towards veganism includes tips on how to be vegan on a budget, suggests useful kitchen tools and methods, and explains common ingredients. The book then launches in to the recipes including some vegan pantry staples. The layout is clean and has an appropriate amount of photos (mostly of the delicious food, some seriously cute dogs and Sam’s smiling face). My one quibble with the book is the lightness of the text. My old eyes have a hard time seeing the instructions – not a big deal but Sam, if you read this, keep that in mind for the next book. If you are beginning your vegan journey this is a good entry cookbook. I’m an experienced cook but I think beginners will be able to follow the recipes and make the food easily. All in all a great cookbook!
Title says it all ... FUSS FREE!!
I've probably got 3 dozen or more other cookbooks, but this is rapidly becoming my go-to one for anything and everything. The author has the usual set of categories of recipes (breakfast, snacks, soups/salads, sandwiches, entrees, desserts), but that's where similarities to other cookbooks end. First off, a FULL COLOR photo of EVERY recipe. And drop dead GORGEOUS food photography at that. Secondly, just about all the recipes use normal, every day ingredients. I think the most unusual item I've run across is rice paper. And that was for one recipe. Small town grocery stores will have everything you need. Thirdly, nothing fussy about these recipes in terms of making them. Easy, quick, straightforward. But the TASTE!! Now that's what one needs to rate every cookbook on, and the author truly has a gift for combining everyday ingredients into FABULOUS tasting dishes. I'd made umpteen of her recipes off her blog, and found I loved every one of them, and kept making them over and over, so I figured the cookbook would be (LOTS) more of the same. And it is!! AND!! As she says in the intro to the snacks/appetizer chapter ... she swore she would NOT include a single recipe for hummus!! As a 35+ year vegan, I SO appreciate that!! I mean, I like hummus as much as the next person, but I don't need yet another recipe for one!!
Must have vegan cookbook
Recipes are great. I've modified a couple to suit my tastes. My only complaint is not having recipes for butter, etc without all the nuts but that is a personal issue so I can't hold it against her!
) I pre-ordered the book as soon as it was available and I have not been disappointed. I embarked on a week of Fuss Free ...
I've long been a fan of Sam's blog. In fact it has become my go to when feeding non-vegans. My die hard carnivore father even asked me to pack up some of the spinach artichoke dip for him last Christmas. So you can imagine my excitement when she announced she was writing a cookbook. (The little excited squeal would have been totally embarrassing if I didn't live alone.) I pre-ordered the book as soon as it was available and I have not been disappointed. I embarked on a week of Fuss Free Vegan, and it became a week and a half. Oh who am I kidding, practically everything I have cooked since this book came out came from its pages. I'm 16 recipes in and I can say definitely make the Smoky Sun-Dried Tomato pizza (omg it is so amazing, and her Family Favorite Tomato Sauce is so delicious and easy I will never buy pasta sauce again. Oh and when making the Sensational Smoky Tofu & Avocado Benedict double the tofu, it makes a lot Hollandaise sauce. In fact I have doubled the tofu and still have some sauce in my freezer. Except for the pizza dough and the tomato sauce, which I cooked the day before making the first pizza, I have made everything after getting home from work. Meaning these recipes really are fuss free and easy to fit in to a busy schedule.
Cheese Lovers who want to eat Vegan Rejoice!
My wife decided to try Vegan about two months ago and I joined her (mostly) with some hesitation before we received this book. I missed my cheese, dairy products and bacon! This cookbook was the answer to my dreams. Unlike some vegan cookbooks, we've found, this one has ingredients we were able to locate easily. We use sticky notes to mark the recipes we want to make; we've marked more than half of the pages in the first pass. We've made the Life-Changing Mozzarella. I plan to try the Feta recipe, the Vegan Cheese cake, and both bacon recipes soon. I almost forgot about the carrot cake recipe! I'd also recommend you check out the author's "It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken" website. Vegan Blue Cheese dressing?? She has it covered.
Excellent!
I've been following Sam Turnbull for many years. Her blog, It doesn't taste like chicken, is simply superb. She has great recipes that are easy to make with no exotic, expensive ingredients and are delicious. I just bought the Kindle version of the book (I should have bought it sooner but lately I've been watching my money. This is my early Christmas gift!) and I've looked at a few recipes that I'm gonna be making soon, like the Get Well Soon Noodle Soup, the All Hail Caesar Salad, Mayonnaise for Days and the Feta Fantastic. Thanks Sam. Waiting for your second book. Disclosure: I do not know Sam Turnbull and I've never met her. My opinions are my own and I have not been influenced by any external forces!
Best cookbook ever!
Why is this the best cookbook? It has a spiral binding, pictures, easy to follow directions, and great content. It is rare to see all of this in one cookbook.
Best $20 I Ever Spent!
I've been vegetarian for the past 7 years, and have recently jumped on the vegan bandwagon, so I'm not an expert by far at vegan cooking. But the recipes in this book are simple to follow, detailed and most all of the ingredients are either something you'll probably have on hand, or are easy to find at the grocery store. Best of all, every single thing I've made from this book has been OUTSTANDING. The Smoky Tomato Basil Cream Soup recipe is worth the price of the book alone. And my wife literally woke me up out of bed the other night just to tell me the Epic BBQ Black Bean Sandwich w/ Coleslaw leftovers I'd saved her was the best she'd ever tasted. If you're debating on whether or not to Buy Fuss-Free Vegan, stop agonizing and buy it now!
Outstanding!
Let me start by saying I NEVER write Amazon reviews. That's how much I love this cookbook. I'm often disappointed by the promise and expectation when a book arrives and I start cooking from it. This was quite the opposite experience. I have loved every single recipe I've tried from her book and I have been cooking from it exclusively for a couple of weeks now. The mayonnaise is unreal - so, convincing (you *must* use the black salt for an authentic egg taste), the Caesar dressing/dip is so good I've made it twice, fettuccine Alfredo, rice paper bacon (no kidding, I ate the entire plate myself!), coconut bacon (I know, it's a thing), pancakes, hearts of palm sandwiches... Sam nails flavors and textures and everything is super straight forward. Not only are the recipes outstanding, she does her own photography and the photos are drool-worthy. Kudos to this phenom who has said she wants to be the vegan Julia Childs - well on your way.
One of The Best Vegan Cookbooks!
I'm a cook! I cook everyday. Since embracing the Vegan Lifestyle, I needed to find recipes that were not just good, but very good. When I received my cookbook, I was ready with my taste buds and my critical examination of all the recipes in the book. First was the coconut bacon bits. Yum! The Caesar salad, of which I tried with romaine lettuce and a different salad with kale. I also made the salad dressing. Yum again. While I'm writing this, I just finished the "Dude Approved BBQ Chickpea Salad". BBQ sauce on chickpeas? OMG! Again! Yum!!! I've prepared more than 10 of the recipes. Have a list of about 30 to try. Ten more to go. My experience? I'm loving it!!!
Learnt how to make vegan ranch dressing, and now the rest of my life will lack meaning.
I bought this recipe book specifically based on someone else's bad review of it. That review said that the recipes were too hard, that you shouldn't have to make your own vegan cheese when you can just buy some. Well heck, I *want* to make my own vegan cheese! Ok I haven't yet, but I have made a couple of things so far - mayonnaise (amazingly quick and simple and tastes exactly like the animal-product alternative), BBQ sauce (because I had no idea how darn easy it really was), and these two things were combined with other yumminess to make the chickpea salad. WOWZER! I mean, I love chickpeas and I love salad, but holy smokes this recipe was amazing. I reckon it was the ranch dressing that tipped it over the edge from great to incredible. The next day I went out looking to buy bigger bowls to eat this salad from, because our measly little ones just weren't big enough to hold this much deliciousness in the quantity that I wanted to eat it. Thankyou Sam for such a beautiful recipe book, I look forward to making every single thing in it!
This is something special
I must admit, initially I was a little disappointed because I thought that Sam played it a little safe with the recipe selection, compared to the usual recipes on her blog. Man, I was wrong. The elegance isn't in the wackiness or variety of the offerings, although there are few novel items, it's in the quality of the meals. Everything I've made so far has turned out incredible. (4 recipes) I'm currently eating lasagna that is among the best I've made, and my guests just departed after eating cookies that we all agreed were just about perfect. Oh, and my wife said that caesar salad with the coconut bacon (+ off recipe avocado slices) might just be the best she's ever had, and she's had a good many in her life. The vegan essentials section in the back (various recipes for substitutes and compound ingredients like the aforementioned coconut bacon) seems especially useful. The hints are actually helpful. The recipe text is concise without being vague, and the pictures are as lively as you'd expect from a cookbook of this style. If you have any interest in plant-based based cooking, this is a good one. I don't think I'm going to find a dud recipe.
My favorite cookbook (and chef!) of all time
I love this cookbook so much! All the recipes are simple, straightforward, come together quickly, and only use accessible ingredients sold at all grocery stores. I went vegan as a teenager and struggled learning to cook and Sam’s recipes got me comfortable in the kitchen and helped me fall in love with cooking. I recommend this book to every vegan and vegan curious person in my life and have purchased it as a Christmas or birthday gift at least 5 times! If you want easy, delicious and balanced vegan recipes you have to buy this book. I reach for it at least three times a week!
A great book for people wanting to eat real vegan food
I am just starting to become “veganish” and this was a great first book. One of the things that attracted me to eating this way was the focus on real food that I can easily find. I don’t want to be just buying vegan junk food (think all the chemical laden vegan versions of meat/cheese products). Her enthusiasm for cooking and being vegan is amazing. We have made several of her recipes already. The cheese ball is quick and delicious and I throw in other ingredients each time I make it for variety. Her lentil loaf (pictured) was amazing (I probably will save the puff pastry wrapping for special occasions only though). My omnivore son actually wanted leftovers to take home with him! There are lots of easy recipes here that will help you bridge to this new way of eating. Yes, this book will have you spending more time in the kitchen than if you are just microwaving a frozen vegan dinner (the recipes are easier than many cookbooks) but it is fun and far healthier. Enjoy the cooking process and develop a bond with the food that is fueling your day.
Best vegan cookbook!!
This book is, by far, my favorite vegan cookbook. I own over 30 but this one has a special place in my heart. The recipes are original (not your classic chili and rice bowl), the salad dressings are to die for, the flavors are spot on…Just great job Ms Turnbull!
Amazing cookbook
This is the best cookbook I’ve ever owned! Everything I’ve made has been phenomenal ( just made the Boss BBQ Veggie Burger and they are out of this world). The ingredients are simple and most I already have in the house. If I don’t have an item, it’s easy to sub or just leave out. It’s made me realize how processed most store bought vegan items are. Bought this for a friend and am so happy I got myself one too, I love it!!! I’d give it more stars if I could.
Beautiful book!
I am new to veganism, so I really needed guidance on the basics of making stuff like cheeses, dressings, etc. This cookbook is so well done and it stays open on my kitchen counter. That's how much I use it! I love the recipes, the pictures and the end results are always yummy. If you are new to the vegan lifestyle, then I highly recommend this book as a guide to jumping in to some very delicious food. Bon appetite!
It looks like a quality cookbook.
Bought this for my vegan granddaughter. The book is high quality with some interesting recipes in it. I think she will love it.
Best Vegan Cookbook Ever!
This is the ABSOLUTE BEST Vegan cookbook ever! Not only is it such a fun read with fabulous photography and lots of helpful tips but the recipes are amazing and bonus super deluxe easy to make! I just made the Insanely Good Rice Paper Bacon and I don't even understand how this is possible but the marinade used to coat the rice paper literally tastes just like cooked bacon! I was literally licking my fingers and smiling the entire time I was making this recipe and the finished result was amazing! Crunchy chewy bacon goodness! Yay! There are so many amazingly awesome recipes to try between all the breakfast, appetizer, soup/salad, main dishes and desserts etc. included in this book! You're pretty much guaranteed to be cooking happily ever after! As I always say "Vegan is for Lovers!" Lovers of the earth, animals, people and most certainly great tasting food! 1,000,000,00++ thank you's for sharing your creative vegan genius Sam Turnbull!
This is amazing! And truly fuss-free!
This is one of the best vegan cookbooks on the market. I had recently wanted to go vegan again, but the last time I had tried to it was hard to find a cook book with easy recipes. I have made 10 recipes out of this book and my fiance and I have loved every single one!!! ( and honestly they are super easy to follow and I haven't had to scavenger hunt for recipe ingredients!)
Hands down best cookbook ever
Beautiful big bright Pictures for every recipe, super yummy, super comfort foody, subs every possible food u can think of. Easy to follow instructions and entertaining! Well put together .. gives vegan tips/tricks along the way. Well done! Get this book and u won’t need any other. PS if you’re watching carb intake this isn’t the book for you
Easy but tasty!
I am a medium to advanced cook who started her vegan journey this summer so I am always on the lookout for new and fun recipes to try. I stumbled across Sam's blog and YouTube page when looking for a cheese sauce. I enjoyed her bubbly personality (and the cheese sauce turned out great!), so I had to get the book. A few reviewers said the recipes are too basic, nothing special..but I, even as a seasoned cook, beg to differ! As a single working mom, I need a few easy recipes up my sleeve for those hectic weeknights before hockey practice or after a long gym workout. These fit the bill! I can then save my intricate, more complicated recipes for the weekend. I am excited to try out many of the recipes in this book as they look to be family and kid friendly..and also great for when cooking for non vegan or veg-skeptical friends!
A little bit of everything!
I like everything about this cookbook. She uses easy to find ingredients, instructions are clear and she's just adorable. She also has a website that has many recipes but not the ones in this book so after following her for several years I decided I must have her 1st cookbook. I already pre-ordered the one coming out in March. Anybody who is new to being vegan or trying to incorporate a plant-based diet will really benefit from this book.
Thank you, Sam!
No idea why it took me so long to discover this book, but I am very happy that I have it now. Both this book and Sam's incredible blog are filled with recipes that make me want to get in the kitchen and cook. Everything I've tried has been a keeper, but the thing that makes me happiest is that I can now make a pizza that doesn't taste like a compromise. The recipes for the aptly named Life-Changing Mozzarella and Nacho Cheese Love are worth the price of the book, many times over. Not to be greedy, but I wouldn't mind a bit if Sam put together a second cookbook now.
Tasty recipes, Gorgeous cookbook!
Sam Turnbull's enthusiastic manner of instruction is infectious. Each recipe is accompanied by a full-page, color photo of the dish, which is extremely helpful and something I wish ALL cookbooks did. Every recipe that I have tried is super yummy and I'm really happy to see that she details how to make a vegan cheese, something I've really been seeking. Most recipes have a little icon indicating the time it takes to make, if it is gluten free, and how many ingredients, so it's easy to skim through and find ones that fit your time needs. Sam also details essentials for the cupboard, freezer, and go-to kitchen tools. In the back of the book, she has some Menu Plans for special occasions, such as pot lucks (hurray!!), date nights, birthdays, etc. The only nitpick I have is that the book does not lay flat when open, so I have to place a heavy object on it if I want it to stay on a particular page while I'm cooking.
A "Must Have" for Anyone Who Loves Cooking!
Great Cookbook! I have been following Sam for about a year and after 20+ years as a vegan, I can say that her site and this cookbook are truly outstanding. Sam is that rare combination of imaginative AND detail oriented. Not only does she offer great recipes, but she is careful to provide clear and accurate step by step instructions. Sam also offers great tips and techniques. I just tried her Tempeh BLT (with avocado) and I loved it!! I had always resorted to buying a pack of tempeh bacon - but now I can EASILY throw together a much less salty, very tasty version. For those of you who are newer to vegan cooking - make sure to try her tofu crumbles in her Tofu Bolognese - those little babies are delicious added to other recipes (especially chili - Sam has one on her site that is really the best). I am so happy to add this to my collection of cookbooks. It is really beautifully done and Sam should be so proud of what she has accomplished. This young woman is a rising star!
Super Simple and Delicious Vegan Recipes!
LOVE THIS COOKBOOK! The first vegan cookbook I ever bought was full of unusual, complicated, time consuming recipes with special ingredients (some even hard to find). THANKFULLY, THIS IS NOT THAT KIND OF COOKBOOK! :) This cookbook is filled with yummy recipes that you are familiar with, most likely, actually have all the ingredients for (or can easy obtain) and recipes that you will have the time and patience to make. There’s even a YouTube channel with instructional videos and additional recipes! If you’re new to vegan cooking, or you’re a vegan who just wants to make delicious, uncomplicated food, you should get this cookbook!
Beautifully laid out
Wonderful, simple recipes. It’s a beautiful cookbook, very artfully arranged. Her recipes are perfect for a new vegan like me!
Such great recipes
I have been following the author on instagram for a while now and so when I was searching for a good cookbook to gift my mom (who is transitioning to a vegan diet also) and Sam's face popped up on the cover of this book, I knew it was the one I had to buy! Her recipes are straightforward and tasty and the cookbook itself is beautiful. The copy I ordered did arrive a little beat up and frayed around the edges which was odd because I ordered/paid for it "new" but the content was A+ so I can't complain. Just made the tofu bolognese last night and it was reeeally good.
Approachable, charming, and fun!
There is nothing weird in this cookbook. There is nothing out of the way, or obscure, or imossible to pronounce. There is just yummy food, attractively presented with recipes that are easy to follow and down to earth, using ingredients that you can buy anywhere. Sam's cookbook is a fun kitchen companion that recreates classic comfort foods that you want to eat! I've already made several recipes from this cookbook and was pleased with each result.
More like "Mediocre recipes for beginners cooks"
I was really excited to get a book rated this highly only to be pretty disappointed. I do think it's good for beginner cooks and vegans as it has some basic recipes in it that are useful but on the whole it has the same problem I keep running into; novelty vegan recipes that mimic non vegan recipes that look good but dont taste good. I made the pancakes and they were really bland and the texture was gross. The mozarella looked cool but the texture was awful. I wish I could return it.
Meat alternatives
This book has a lot of meat and dairy alternatives. I was hoping for a more raw cook book and this wasn’t that.
Great food and easy!
I really like Sam’s recipes. They are delicious, adaptable, and easy to make. You don’t need a lot of ingredients you use once or twice a year. Really enjoyable.
So good I broke my own rule.
During the almost four years that I have been vegan, I have bought dozens of cookbooks--almost all of which have been a disappointment. About six months ago, I vowed to never buy another vegan cookbook because I have wasted so much money on them, including by well-known authors and chefs. I initially found this book at the library and decided to try a few recipes. After five successful recipes, I felt justified in committing to a purchase. So far, I have made rice paper bacon, pizza dough pretzel bites, perfect pizza pockets, TLT, 15-minute peanut noodles, life-changing mozzarella, and vegan cheesecake--the latter which is truly a culinary miracle as I had given up on ever finding an acceptable vegan cheesecake recipe. This book is a staple for any and all vegans--or anyone--and I will definitely be buying copies in the future for friends and family. Fuss-Free Vegan is a DIAMOND in the gravel pile of vegan cookbooks.
Tasty Goodness!
I stumbled on Sam Turnbull's blog and signed up for her emails. Her recipes are always ones I can count on to taste really great. So I bought her first cookbook and again, I've got lots of recipes that are simply delicious. You can adjust most for gluten free and eliminating oil. This is my go-to cookbook for fast, easy, yummy recipes! Have fun exploring.
Great Vegan Recipe Book
Ordered this book after viewing Sam's web site "It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken". The Fuss Free Vegan cookbook is so nice! I love that it is sturdy paperback and made to be used. I accidentally set my brand new book in spilled soy milk and it wiped clean. No damaged pages or cover. The recipes are wonderful with easy everyday type foods that anyone can make. There are photos of each recipe that make my tummy rumble. Sam gives you the option of making some your own ingredients (such as pizza dough) or purchasing pre-made to create your yummy meal. The back of the book holds her go to recipes and a menu plan. Deciding between the 15-minute peanut noodles or the tofu bolognese for dinner tonight!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE This Book
This lovely girly girl (Sam) knows how to create a delicious, vegan meal. Her recipe book is stuffed with delicious ideas for any meal of the day, including snacks. These dishes can easily appeal to even the strictest flesh eater. This lady's got skills.
EASY to make foods
I’m giving this 4 stars only because of the way I choose to eat, NOT because of the book. I eat WFPB and the recipes contained in this cookbook uses more processed foods that I chose to consume, so I returned it. But looking though the cookbook, it looked like a wonderful cookbook. Nice pictures, large easy to read text... I would recommend it.
Amazing resource! I just started transitioning to vegan
Amazing resource! I just started transitioning to vegan, and this is EXACTLY what I needed. This is more than just a cookbook. There are conversions and lists that have made my life easier. I am not in love with Turnbull's constantly spunky, cutesy way of spinning EVERYTHING, but it gets endearing after a little bit, and that fades into the background, as you realize how knowledgable and encouraging she is. She makes going vegan a little less intimidating, and her recognition that visually appealing material is where it's at - is what I love. I need to see what I am going to make, especially when so many new ingredients I've never used before, are involved. If you are considering a vegan lifestyle, interested in more plant-based eating, etc. - I feel like this is a must-have. In fact, I would get this book first.
Delicious with NO fuss! Great photography l! My Fave cookbook!
The recipes have been well tested. I have yet to have a failure, much less, a snaffew. With the exception of black salt, you won’t need any boutique ingredients. Photos are the bomb and make you instantly hungry. You really can’t go wrong. Sam T doesn’t claim to be oil free, but she does claim to offer deliciousness! She delivers!! I have two favorite vegan cook books and this is one of them. Enjoy!
I like it
I am a vegan wanna be, and got this book to look at. I made the vegan chocolate cake and frosting and the cake was truly a thing of beauty. It was perhaps the most moist and delicious chocolate cake I have ever had, vegan or not. I didn't think her frosting recipe was great. The ratio of butter to powdered sugar was off, but I am a baker so I just kept adding powdered sugar till it was right. I think she only called for 1.5 cups to 1 cup butter, so it was a grease bomb. I probably used nearly 4 cups of powdered sugar, and it was fine. But, oh, that cake makes the whole book worth it.
Simple but enjoyable
Great layout and simple recipes to make. I haven't had a recipe I haven't liked yet, but I also don't think this has ONE BIG DEAL recipe. It is more of an everyday living style cookbook. Also been trying new recipes and cooking style for plant based living. Definitely would recommend this book.
A must buy for all aspiring or seasoned vegans!
I loooove your recipe book Sam, thank you so much! Blown away by how similar our stories are of going vegan lol, but that aside, after 5 years of being vegan and raising my 3 children that way since then too, I have brought many cookbooks and learned a lot on how to trick their friends omnivore taste buds haha. BUT your cookbook is something else. It’s brilliant, pure genius. I realise how much I have been complicating the food I make with waaaay to many ingredients that you have shown me are not necessary at all to have incredible nutritious plant fuelled food! I adore and find incredibly helpful and inspiring your meal planners. All the recipes are uplifting, easy and excite me no end. Thank you for your dedication to this way of eating and living, it’s so appreciated xo
An absolute must for vegans, both new and experienced.
As a recent convert to veganism, this author is the one who gets the credit. No other vegan cookbooks or online research for ideas have done what she has been able to do for me. Now I have conviction to truly go 150% into the world of a vegan diet - permanently. No longer is this a daunting, unreachable, goal using many odd food items. Her obvious talent for creating delicious, comforting foods is perfect for newbies. Familiar ideas and familiar tastes combined with her skill, easy-to-follow directions, gorgeous photos, and loads of additional helpful hints, are offered in this beautiful book. It is not fat-free, but it is an absolutely perfect book to help with a transition to a whole new eating world. I could not be happier with this book and highly recommend it.
Recipes are simple and hits every time
This book is amazing! I already follow her blog and have loved all the recipes we’ve tried both on her blog and in the book. This is definitely a staple for me and has helped me feel brave enough to try more recipes that seem intimidating but she makes them so simple! I can’t wait to get her next cookbook!
Great for those with allergies
After having children, I aquired both an egg allergy and a lactose intolerance. This book was a happiness saver. Condiment and cheese substitutes, fantastic basics (love the pancakes!), and great explanations as to why each ingredient is used. HIGHLY recomend. *EDIT* I have had it for a year now, this book has become one of my favorites. My husbad is 100% against veganizing meals, yet loves my "from scratch" pancakes from this book! Still recommend just as a regular cook book!
Thanks Sam!
I love this book! I have made many of the recipes and everything has been delicious! Not one bummer yet! The recipes are easy to follow and you don't need any crazy ingredients. The sauce made out of cashews is brilliant! I am ready for book # 2! Thanks Sam for this wonderful cookbook! The recipes are so fun to make!
... I have tried in this cookbook so far is amazing. I have been following Sam's blog for years ...
Everything I have tried in this cookbook so far is amazing. I have been following Sam's blog for years and had many successes with her free recipes there. So when she released this, I pre-ordered it and was super excited to get it in the mail. So far I have tried the spinach artichoke dip (omg, perfect) and a few others. Totally worth the purchase. I love how all the recipes are made with simple ingredients that you can find everywhere and without all the horrible ingredients of store bought processed vegan foods. Real vegan food for a healthy life! Try the Tira Misu recipe from the blog if you are questioning whether to buy this cookbook. Or the gooey melty vegan cheese if you aren't a sweet tooth. Both will have you wanting this cookbook for your collection.
Absolutely love this cookbook!
Absolutely love this cookbook! It's named perfectly and filled with simple, delicious, and fuss-free meals that I can make on work nights. There are still some longer recipes in there (including the lentil loaf from her blog) but for the most part, the recipes have a manageable amount of steps and include ingredients that most people usually have. I've had this for two weeks and already used it 10 times. Highly recommend!
My Go-To Vegan Cookbook
I’ve had this book for a while now and have come to it again and again for go to vegan comfort foods. The chocolate chip cookie recipe is me and my husband’s absolute fav. We always double it and keep extra frozen cookie dough to bake later or snack on. Everything I’ve made from the book (about 15-20 different dishes) has been amazing. Seriously a staple for anyone worried about how to make their fav vegan foods vegan.
This has become one of my favorite vegan cookbooks!
I've been meaning to leave this review for a while, but hadn't gotten around to it. This has become one of my favorite vegan cookbooks! (And I've owned at least two dozen, so that's saying something). The recipes really are simple and they don't call for a lot of processed crap - I'm trying to move toward more whole food plant based eating (rather than JUST vegan) so that's a big deal for me. Also - her veggie burgers are the only ones that have ever stayed together for me without an issue! My non-vegan (but now vegetarian) husband also loves her recipes - if he gives me a skeptical look about something I just tell him it's from this book and his skepticism goes away. I really can't recommend this book enough!
Awesome!
My newly turned Vegan family and I have tried 10 (so far) recipes from this book. All of them have been amazing and easy! Best Vegan cookbook we've tried. The granola bars, the chocolate Chip cookies!! Wow!!!
Really nice cookbook!
I purchased this book because my son and his family are vegans. We are not, so I am never comfortable making dinner for them when they come to visit. This cookbook has some really nice recipes that even sound good to me. Honestly I have not made any of the recipes yet, but I am looking forward to trying some of them soon. I'm sure my son will be happy too. No more just beans and salads!
I discovered the It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken Blog when searching for a vegan Pumpkin Spice ...
I discovered the It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken Blog when searching for a vegan Pumpkin Spice syrup recipe. That recipe was great and it lead me to try other recipes on the blog and then order the book. I knew I was going to LOVE the book when I read the introduction to the appetizer section that said it would not include hummus! I like hummus but there is so much more out there to eat. Sam is original. The cookbook offers delicious, new vegan recipes. I have already made the nacho cheese sauce, the black bean burger with coleslaw, the pumpkin penne, the cashew sour cream, the chocolate chip cookies, and the tofu frittata. I only wish I had discovered the Fuss Free Vegan sooner. Thank you Sam!
Sam’s Recipes are Delicious
Delicious recipes! Sam’s recipes are my favorite! She has a nice writing style and fun, bubbly personality. All the ingredients are normal and accessible and the instructions are easy to follow. My whole family eats and loves the recipes from this book, vegans, vegetarians, Omnis, kids. If you were going to choose only one vegan cookbook to try, I’d say this is the one. You will find new staples (Tofu bites, “mozzarella”) get a sampling of various world cuisines, and feel like a top vegan Chef when your food turns out perfect and tasty every time!
Great Variety
Working my way through this cookbook. So far every recipe is a hit! I am new to vegan, so this book is helping me get the hang of it, cooking with tofu, making cheese like stuff with cashews and nutritional yeast, etc.... Many of the recipes I will repeat, they are that good.
Many years of love
The best cook book and most used cook book I have ever owned! (Vegan or not) I love this book actually easy and tasty recipes! I’m still in love with this book and I have owned it for years now. Ingredients are simple and easy to find.
okay
I liked some of the recipes but not all
My go-to book for meal inspiration!
I love these recipes! They’re so simple but always come out fantastic. I can always rely on Sam’s recipes if I’m looking for something new and want some thing that I know will be tasty. I cook her recipes on a regular basis and several have become new staples in my house. Definitely recommend buying this book and also looking at her Pinterest boards and YouTube videos!
Fabulous, Easy Vegan Cookbook
An INCREDIBLE vegan cookbook! I've followed Sam on her blog for a while and have used many of her recipes. They always turn out well, and the recipes featured in this cookbook are no exception. I've made several of the recipes already and everything made is delicious. Part of why I like Sam's recipes is that they are really quite simple, easy to make, don't require any esoteric ingredients (almost all of what she uses I keep as staples in my vegan kitchen), and she offers the vegan many of the regular "comfort" foods that we miss from not eating dairy, egg, nor animal meats. This cookbook will be one of my "go to" recipe books for certain and I highly recommend it to vegans and non-vegans alike!
Sam's Recipes are Great
Although my boyfriend is open-minded and loves veggies too, he is a self-proclaimed carnivore who loves to cook a lot of meat. I'm trying to get him to eat healthier, so I bought him this book for Christmas. We've made a number of Sam's recipes and every one of them was fantastic, (carnivore boyfriend APPROVED!) The recipes are simple, colorful and oh, so flavorful. You can't go wrong.
Great fuss-free book!
I never leave a review but this really deserve one....... if you are looking for good-tasting relative healthy vegan foods, easy to make, with minimal processed food, this is the book for you! Yes she still uses white flour and white sugar, but pretty much everything is from scratch and you can replace some ingredients to fit your diet preference. Almost all recipes have pictures and short ingredient list! Super talented cook
Yumm!!
This book just came today so I haven't made anything yet, but I've done enough vegan cooking to be able to say WOW it looks amazing, and do-able. Its my kind of food- comfort food but made vegan and pretty healthy. I say "pretty healthy" because there is some oil, but oh well. Out of my now 18 vegan cookbooks, which are all very good, if I could only keep two I think it would have to be this one and the Non-dairy Evolution. But I'm more of a savory/cheese-loving person, this doesn't have much in the way of very healthy breakfast baked goods, oh she glows is my favorite for that (for my kids).
Great Cookbook
I bought this cookbook for my daughter who is vegan. I am not but love this cookbook so much I am actually making healthier versions without meat and LOVE THEM. Well worth the money. I also subscribed to her email that she sends out with a new recipe!
If you are either a new vegan or not a highly experienced cook, this is worth a look
Some critics took issue with the simplicity of the recipes (something about junk food). I'm a new vegan of only 5 months so am trying different cookbooks. I haven't tried that many recipes yet (summer = salads) but now that fall is finally coming, I plan to try more of the soups, burgers and baked dishes. I'm a pretty good cook but appreciate recipes that are easy to follow and don't involve so many ingredients that I have to buy a bunch of stuff I won't use again.
I love the way it's laid out
I've been following (and loving) Sam's blog for almost three years. When her cookbook came out, I had to have it. I love the way it's laid out. Each recipe is accompanied by a beautiful full-page photo. Her step-by-step instructions are detailed, clear and concise with no guessing as to how the recipe should come together. She also offers various ways to alter or jazz up each recipe. I just got the cookbook, so I've only made the Pillowy Pancakes so far (and, yes, they're very pillowy), but I went through the entire book page by page and am looking forward to trying ALL the recipes. This is a great addition to my vegan cookbook collection!
Genius Healthy Tasty Life-Changing Vegan Recipes
I started following Sam's work on her blog, trying out her genius recipes and we fell in love! I take great pride in providing my family with delicious, healthy homemade food even better than their favorite restaurants. I used to think eating vegan was difficult before this. Now, I not only feel better, I can proudly serve this food to everyone at home (vegan or not)... and the ingredients are easily found at your local grocers or online. Even the biggest skeptic of vegan food will love this food and nothing is better than knowing you're helping to make the planet a bit more loving and compassionate by eating vegan. Buy this cookbook. Follow Sam's instructions. You'll be so happy you did.
My Current Go To Cook Book
Fantastic cookbook! I haven’t made so many recipes from a single book in a very long time. The ingredients are simple and easy to find and everything looks delicious! Everything I’ve made so far has tasted delicious as well. The authors sweet and fun tone help make the book more fun to read than most cookbooks I have at home. The notes and tips the aurthor inclides help to spice up recipes and give you good idea of how to store and reheat your food. I hope I can get around to making everything in here! So far my Favorite dishes are the Creamy Rosé Pasta, the veggie burger and the crab cakes. Oh! And the fudge brownies, peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip cookies!
Awesome cookbook
Of the 30 or so vegan cookbooks I own this one is by far my favorite! I have tried maybe 35 recipes and they have all been exceptional. I have already sent it to 2 family members. Some stand outs have been the dude approved salad, brownies, pumpkin pancakes, coconut cauliflower tacos, tofu Benedict, rice paper bacon, waffles and chocolate chip cookies just to name a few. I highly recommend this book for anyone, vegan or not!
Love this cookbook!!
This cookbook is full of delicious, easy recipes, that non vegans even love. We haven’t found one recipe yet that we didn’t Love, and we havedone a lot of the book already. Have purchased this book for many people and they all love it. Her cheese recipes are amazing!
Happy with my purchase
My family are newly vegan/vegetarian and this book has very simple and inexpensive recipes. Can't wait to try them all.
Wonderfully approachable collection of recipes
I find myself using this cookbook at least weekly. Approachable ingredients and techniques. Very easy for quick weeknight meals. Lots of full page, color photography for the recipes -- something that I have come to realize I really enjoy in a cookbook since I end up pursuing them for fun as often as I end up actually using them to make something!
A must have
I have about 30 vegan cookbooks and this one is in my top 3. It's in my top 3 because all of the recipes are incredibly easy to follow, simple and delicious; the fact that is was by far the cheapest of all of them makes it a contender for number 1. What a blessing this cookbook has been. I've made everything from waffles to curries to asian peanut bowls to cookies to brownies and I haven't once been let down. THANK YOU, SAM!
Amazing!!!
So far I have tried 5 recipes out of this cookbook and each one of them has been a winner in my house. Even my family members that prefer meat really enjoy Sam's recipes. This book contains wonderful pictures and very clear directions with easy to find ingredients. This is a winner and is planted right on my kitchen counter for easy access.
This Must Be A Cookbook Best Seller!
What an excellent, well written and fun cookbook. I just got the book and have done a couple of the recipes and they came out so good. The pasta sauce was wonderful. Being a second generation Italian and growing up in an Italian neighborhood I thought that the recipe would be run of the mill. Not so. This sauce is authentic Italian. Now I'll just tweak it the way my mom made hers with a splash of red wine and a pat of butter (vegan butter now). Buon Gusto!! I recommend this cookbook completely. You will definitely enjoy it.
My Favorite
I have a large collection of vegan cookbooks. This is by far my favorite and the one I refer to most often. Recipes are simple and consist of ingredients I usually have on hand.
Easy Transition with this book
I would definitely recommend this book to the person who wants to transition to plant based eating. The person who thinks plant-based is boring, or difficult. Sam Turnball makes it easy without all the fuss. No difficult to find Ingredients and easy to make recipes that are so tasty. Surely a great place to start !
Real food! No crazy ingredients and not a flax egg in the bunch!
One of the best vegan cookbooks I have cooked from. I loved all the photographs and how the recipes are straightforward, and delicious yet easy to prepare. The caramelized onion pizza was amazing, and the gooey mozzarella on top was the simplest cheese I have made. Also really enjoyed the waffles, dude-approved chickpea salad, tomato soup, and veggie skewers.
A go-to cookbook
This is a go-to book in my house. The recipes are quick, easy, familiar, and delicious. I have a house full of teenagers, and as each one moves out, they will be taking their own copy with them. Our favorites are the BBQ black bean burgers, BBQ salad, calzone, and the cauliflower Alfredo- O.M.G, the cauliflower Alfredo 💕 I love everything about this book and hope she puts another one together soon!
Beginner vegan
Bought this because I’m starting to go vegan, it’s really easy to follow with good recipes. I will say since I’m new to being vegan I did have to google a term in the cookbook and had to find a recipe for it. But overall it’s a good cookbook for people going vegan and who are vegan.
Easy, familiar food but plant based
So great for someone like me that is new to a plant based diet. Each recipe has a picture and is very easy to follow. The ingredients were all available at my regular grocery store. Every recipe I've made has tasted good to excellent. Most importantly for me, all the recipes are of familiar dishes just with plants instead of meat and dairy.
As a new vegan, this book has become my bible!
As a new vegan and reluctant cook, making the switch to cut out 2/3 of my diet and having to discover new recipes everyday was so daunting. Once I made up my mind to make this switch I ordered this book and another as a back up. I haven’t even had a chance to pick up the second book. This book made it so easy to commit to being vegan. I make a recipe out of this book 3-4x weekly, I’m so thankful to the author for making me a successful vegan.
Buy this book!
I am a new vegan and absolutely love the recipes. They give me tons of options of my non-vegan favorite meals. The pics are beautiful and no fancy, obscure ingredients are needed. Buy it!
Vegan cookbook
Love that cookbook! It is very simple and easy to follow. My son and I had tried a few recipes already and they tasted really good!
The must-have vegan cookbook!
So happy to finally have this book. I already knew from Sam's blog that her simple no-fuss recipes were amazingly delicious. It's nice to see this book lives up to the expectations. Love the big beautiful pictures for every single recipe (I hate not knowing what something's supposed to look like). Easy to follow instructions with common ingredients (I hate a recipe with a ton of steps that uses spices I need to Google). Plus, variety, variety, variety. There's something in here for everyone for every meal. As I'm not much of a natural cook, I rely on good solid recipes and this book is my new precious.
Easy and Delicious
I have only made a few recipes from the book but they have all been really good. It takes a little more time than she projects but not nearly as long as many vegan recipes. These recipes are also interesting, for instance, the tofu spicy tomato burrito. I recommend this book to anyone who does a lot of vegan cooking.
Wonderful book!
I've tried about 5 or 6 recipes, and have been astounded how good they are. This makes being a vegan easy. The roasted carrots as hot dogs in a bun is a bridge too far. I will try that recipe someday, and if it works, she is truly genius. I've tried her "scrambled egg" recipe and cheese recipes. We could not believe how good they were.
Delicious and Easy!
Love the recipes that I've made from this cookbook! Favorites include the Pumpkin Penne, Mexican Sweet Potato & Black Bean Burrito, 15-Minute Peanut Noodles, Boss BBQ Veggie Burgers, Gloriously Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies, and Ah-Maz-Ing Peanut Butter Cookies. Kid-approved! Even my toddler loves the peanut noodles. I've enjoyed using these recipes to make transition to eating vegan much smoother for the family (and myself)! To be honest, the kids don't even realize I'm not cooking raw meat anymore, ha!
Fantastic!!!
Fantastic!!! I'm a wannabe Vegan. I grew up on eating meat, but eat much less of it than I used to, and have weeded in more plant foods. This book makes it easy, and easier to share some with my husband who is a died in the wool meat eater. He's not as enthusiastic as I am, but he'll eat it....unless it's tofu! So far the BBQ Chickpea Salad with Ranch Dressing is my favorite, and this weekend I'm going to make Seitan Steaks. Also, Sam Turnbull's blog and YouTube video's are great!
A vegan cookbook must
This is one of the best books in my vast collection. The foods are not only easy to prepare, but ingredients already on hand or easy to acquire and the taste of them all are amazing. She has THE best pumpkin pie recipe ever in this book. Blend and bake. How much easier can you get?
So easy and so good!
My daughter is a vegan so when she comes to visit I cook vegan for her. This book is so easy to use and the recipes I have tried so far are delicious (or at least so says my daughter ;-). I have purchased several vegan cookbooks and the recipes are good however, there are a lot more ingredients to purchase and it is more complicated to follow. Fuss Free Vegan is a treat for me to use and for my daughter to enjoy the recipes.
Makes cooking vegan fun and easy!
This cookbook offers so many options to cook with foods from the local grocery store, with very few items that I have to buy (and can get a great price on, BTW) online! It's a fun read and the recipes are good! What I mean to say is that the food tastes good and is healthy.
A big help
Wonderful cookbook. We have made lots of these recipes and they are all so delicious. We went vegan for our heart health and in the process have lost weight. These aren’t all “diet” recipes but they have helped to lower our cholesterol and give us the comfort foods we crave on occasion and still help us stay in track.
Easy to intermediate cooking skillbase, common pantry ingredients and reasonable prep and cooking times, yield very good results
Really loved the recipies that I have tried so far and so did my family! Clear, easy to follow instructions and ingredients found in your pantry or local grocer, make cooking much easier and truly fuss free. The best recipes are the ones you want to repeat again and again and your family want to eat again and again and this book has several that fit that description. And I have just gotten started, I look forward to trying more recipes from this cookbook. An all too rare experience for many cooks.
Amazing cookbook with awesome recipes!!
This cookbook is AMAZING!! I have a few vegan cookbooks. After receiving every single vegan cookbook I’ve ever gotten or been gifted, I would look through the whole thing. All of my other books, I would find maybe 8-10 recipes that actually sounded good and that I would like to make. The rest had ingredients I didn’t recognize or looked and sounded just...bleh. Not with this book!! Literally ever single recipe except maybe 2 (only because I don’t care for mushrooms), I want to make!! It all looks delicious and has simple ingredients anyone can get from their local grocery store! This cookbook is worth every cent. Really. Sam Turnbull is AMAZING.😃💓
A+ for this vegan cookbook for all palates!
I have about 20 vegan cookbooks, and at least that many more that are vegetarian. I discovered Sam's blog a while back when searching for a good vegan ricotta. It's the best one I've found, so I knew her other recipes would be great, too. If you want to make delicious vegan meals with clear, easy to follow directions and ingredients easily found in supermarkets, this is a perfect cookbook! How about BBQ Cauliflower Steaks, or Caramelized Onion Pizza? Oh, and make a double batch of her chocolate chip cookies, because they'll all be gone before you know it!
Excellent!
She has some very creative recipes and also covers many basics, making vegan cheese etc. It's easy and cheerful!
You don’t have to eat salad and bean burritos every day!
I was struggling with boredom in food choices being a newbie Vegan. This book is awesome! I’ve made the blueberry muffins, the bbq black bean burgers, the vegan pizza and the tofu scramble so far. I was sooo shocked on how much I can still enjoy those “comfort foods” without having animal based foods in my diet.
My Vegan Bible
I bought this book about a year ago. It’s my Vegan bible! The recipes are so easy and if your already vegan, you’ll have the ingredients on hand already. Every recipe I’ve tried is delicious!
Very easy. Very delicious vegan recipes!
I found Sam Turnbull on YouTube during my search for dairy free recipes and I'm so glad I did! Her recipes are so easy and delicious even for a non vegan. Her exuberant and cheerful, personality, delicious food, colorful photos make vegan cooking fun and simple. If you are not vegan she makes you want to be one! I'm working my way through all of the recipes in her cookbook and there is even more on her blog. Better get cooking. Simply fantastic!
Excellent
I have made at least half of these recipes and I love all of them! They are easy and not 100 ingredients. I haven't found a better recipe book.
Love this cookbook!
This cookbook lives up to the name of fuss-free! I have already made 4 of the recipes and every one was easy and delicious.
Easy and Delicious
I been following Sam's recipes from her blog and everything I made was Delicious. I'm not a fan of tofu but she has me enjoying it. Every recipe I made that she called for tofu has been amazing. I can't believe it. I thought I was the only vegan in the world that didn't like tofu but slowly I'm enjoying it. This book is a must. I made the regular pancakes tofu scramble and tofu bolognese all awesome and full of flavor.
Recipes all require oil! Can butter substitute?
There are a lot of exciting recipes in this cookbook. However, I was disappointed that everything is made with oil. I had to go to vegan diet because of digestive issues and I can’t tolerate any oil. Would butter work as a replacement in all these recipes?

I'm a fan of Sam's recipes so I was super excited when I found out she was writing a cookbook. And this book does not disappoint! I want to make every recipe! I've been a vegan for 12 years and I don't have a lot of free time to dedicate making fancy vegan dishes with fancy expensive ingredients that are impossible to locate in my small Ohio town. This book honestly is "fuss-free"! Easy to follow recipes with ingredients that I can find at my local grocery store. This truly is an awesome cookbook!
Sam makes it so simple & delicious!
Having been a vegetarian for 30+ years, and a vegan for 2 years, I was pleasantly surprised by this book It is entirely fuss-free and delicious. The chickpea sandwich - yum; tofu scramble - easiest and tastiest. The only "exotic" ingredient is black salt (which I discovered I do not like) and easily replaced by sea salt. Great pictures for each recipe. I got the kindle version because I like to have it with me when shopping or traveling. Thanks, Sam, great recipes!
Nice!
I like this book! Lots of great recipes.
A perfect primer for both experienced and beginning vegan cooks
When I became a vegetarian 35 years ago, the Moosewood cookbook was my Bible. It moved me beyond pasta and cheese! 3 years ago I became vegan. I have been loving experimenting with all kinds of vegan recipes. I just purchased Sam Turnbull's, " Fuss Free Vegan" cookbook! It is the Moosewood cookbook for vegans. The recipes truly are fuss free and delicious! It belongs in the kitchen of every vegan cook especially those who are just getting started.
Many great recipes
Very nice addition to your vegan cookbooks. Lots of recipes. However, I was expecting recipes of foods I known my whole life veganized. Their are many great recipes, but I did not recognize very like coconut cauliflower tacos, sweet potatoe pot pie, peanut noodles. I don't about you, but that does to sound like my comfort food. She does include lasagna and Mac and cheese recipe.
Comfort Food
Being new to eating vegan, we were looking for a relatively easy cookbook that had good, basic comfort food. We've had this cookbook (both physical copy and Kindle) for about a month now. It has become our go-to cookbook. The recipes are easy to make, and good to eat. They include the basic things like pizza and noodle soup and chick[en] salad sandwiches and not-shepherd's pie. There's none of the weird things you often get in vegan cookbooks. Just everyday stuff that makes me not miss meat.
I keep having to rebuy this because I keep giving it away!
This is the definitive vegan cookbook I give to someone curious about how to start making plant-based meals. It also contains my absolute favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe. A+ would re-buy for a fourth time.
Easy and delicious recipes
Hands down one of my favorite cookbooks of all time! I’ve made probably 2/3 of the recipes in this book. And they are all winners.
Nice cookbook
The best vegan cookbook
Love Sam's Recipes
Loving this book so far. Sam's recipes are well written, delicious, fun & easy to make! Winner. Winner. Tofu Dinner! Definitely recommend. #vegan
Perfect.
But it!! ❤️ It’s BIG, PRETTY &Beginner friendly. It’s super organized and she literally has 101 recipes, like WOW. Wasn’t expecting a lifetime worth of fun for only 25$ 👀 BEAUTUFUL.
The best vegan cookbook
I have been vegan for over 10 years now and I have to say, this cookbook is the best I have ever had or seen. The recipes are easy, which everyone loves, and absolutely delicious. I have shared the food with my non-vegan friends and they have bought this cookbook because of that. If you are looking for a cookbook that has recipes without crazy ingredients, and not too many ingredients, but still taste like a million bucks... get this!!
Makes your transition tasty and EASY without a lot of weirdo ingredients!
I purchased this book to start cooking for my 15 year old son who has been vegan about 5 months. I was ready to make a lifestyle change, too. However, it seemed so HARD. I was going to but a different book, but in a bad review for the other book, this book was mentioned at the best. And... It IS the best. I have been successful with my transition due to this cookbook and the author's inspirational blogs. Bravo!
So easy to follow - and amazing results. You need this book!
Exactly what it says. FUSS FREE. I have many great vegan cookbooks, however, I often find the recipes very complicated, time-consuming and you need to hunt for certain ingredients. The only "different" ingredients you might need to get here are nooch and arrowroot powder. BINGO! I am so excited about this book I immediately tried 3 recipes, all of which turned out fabulous. It is so easy that anyone can get started. No intimidating ingredient lists, no 3 page long recipes... Get cooking!
Buy this cookbook!
I live with an omnivore who now appreciates my WFPB meals more. Her instructions are very easy to follow and I have loved everything I have cooked!
Soy based
I like how many recipes she has in this book, and how most are accompanied by photos. I think all should have photos, but this is better than a lot of cook books. The thing I'm not so happy about is how many recipes use tofu (soy). Soy (gmo, at least) produces estrogen and has been linked to cancer. Also, i prefer healthier sugar options than white sugar. And white rice doesn't seem like the healthiest option either. But there are some great recipes in here. I'm excited to try them. Wish i could try them all.
This is a must-have cookbook for anyone who wants to expand his/her repertoire in the kitchen!
I’m not a vegan but will be hosting a vegan family for several days later this month. I was at a total loss until I found this amazing book! Have tried some new recipes and my confidence grows with each success. Can’t wait to start making some vegan cheeses and desserts with this new book.
My favorite vegan cookbook thus far
Absolutely love this cookbook. Me and my family have loved everything I have cooked from it so far. Can’t wait for her next one to come out!
Outstanding!
Fabulous recipes! Great-looking book. Bought it for my son. He's made a LOT of recipes for us from here and they've all turned out great. Would recommend!
Surprised the heck outta me!
This is no basic cookbook. This is my # 1 go to when I’m cooking in my kitchen and I want to try something new. Pictures with mostly every recipe. 10/10! Could not recommend enough!
Truly is fuss-free healthy, unprocessed, delicious vegan food.
Love the cookbook! After working all day this cookbook always delivers a delicious, healthy recipe that's fuss-free enough to whip up. I love that it doesn't just direct you to buy processed vegan products. A must try is the OMG IT'S SO GOOD, TOFU BOLOGNESE. And sure you can buy the convenient frozen burger product, but why would you when you can whip up the BOSS BBQ VEGGIE BURGER IN 10 minutes with leftover brown rice (another 10 to fry)! You will not be disappointed.
Great recipes!
Great resource.
Overall okay... poor book binding
Overall the recipes are okay but some of them call for fake/processed ingredients (like ‘vegan butter’).... not really a ‘healthy’ vegan book. I prefer plant based cooking. Also, there are many recipes with ‘cheese’ that require you to first make her ‘vegan cheese’ sauces so I end up not making many of her dishes due to that. Also, the book binding is failing and I don’t really use the book all that much.
Fun vegan cookbook
I especially like the section in the back that gives great recipes for vegan cheeses
Great for quick but delicious vegan food
I love this cookbook. I cook 6 to 7 days per week and this book has really helped me cut down on my cooking time. I love plant based cooking but struggle to find recipes that are quick without relying entirely on premade, store bought ingredients. So far everything I've made from this book has been quick and easy without too many ingredients, but still full of flavor .
Full of Amazing Recipes
This cookbook is absolutely wonderful!!! It was Sam's blog 'It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken' that convinced me to go vegan & lead me to this cookbook! It has tons of delicious recipes & is a definite must have for everyone!!!
Delicious, easy to follow recipes, with easy to find ingredients and delicious results❣️💯💃🏾
Excellent vegan cookbook. Very easy to follow. The ingredients are easy to find. The results are good vegan food. The best vegan cookbook I ever purchased. I love this cookbook❣️💯💃🏾
Delicious food made easy
When my husband and I decided to go plant based, I was super nervous to try “veganized” foods. This book was awesome and the food is delicious! So excited to try everything In the book (except the carrot hot dogs). The Mac and cheese slid by far my favorite.
Love it..
Recipes are yummy and not hard to do. Really enjoyed the cookbook and hope there's another one in the future. I use this cookbook a lot.
The Best Vegan Cookbook
This is the best vegan cookbook I have ever purchased. The recipes that I have tried have been delicious and relatively easy. I honestly could take many of these to a pot luck and nobody would suspect they were eating a vegan recipe.
Buy this already!
I love this cookbook. I bought it after a friend made the tofu scramble from it. Such an easy recipe, but it was great. I haven’t made anything from this that hasn’t been yummy. The Mac and cheese is a favorite in our house too.
I love the staple recipes!!
I love this book! So many delicious recipes and she gives you recipes for items such a cheese, mayo, and BBQ sauces whereas other recipes would say “vegan substitutes”. I love that! Everything seems simple to cook and I love the cheeriness the author brings!
