- Year-by-year treatment covers each season in fascinating depth, running through the teams — and their various cars — in order of importance.
- Two teams dominated the decade, McLaren and Williams taking all but two of the drivers’ and constructors’ titles: McLaren’s World Champions were Niki Lauda (1984), Alain Prost (1985, 1986 and 1989) and Ayrton Senna (1988), while Williams’s were Alan Jones (1980), Keke Rosberg (1982) and Nelson Piquet (1987).
- The two other significant winning teams were Brabham, which took Nelson Piquet to two drivers’ titles (1981 and 1983), and Ferrari, which won two constructors’ titles (1982 and 1983).
- Other winning marques were Benetton, Ligier, Lotus, Renault and Tyrrell.
- Over 600 photos — entirely in color and all from the magnificent archives of LAT Images — show every type of car raced by every team and driver, presenting a comprehensive survey of all participants.
- The sweep of the decade covers sustained technical advances, particularly in carbon-fiber construction and ever-increasing power outputs.
- Detailed text includes car specifications and technical essentials.

Fantastic photos
Like all the other "car by car" books, this one is fantastic. I have all the decades from the '50's through the '80's with the 1990's on pre-order. The book is worth every penny.
Fantastic Book for that F1 Fan!
I just purchased this 80-89' edition to compliment my 60-69' and 70-79" editions. Fantastic!
The standard of this series is very high!
The standard of this series is very high! And this sequence does not disappoint. Perfect and not tedious analysis of the technical part of the cars, summary of the reusltados of each season, at least one photo per season of each car and pilot of that season. However, note the following: this series focuses on CARS, not drivers. There is almost no driver photos in the entire book (I believe that at least an appendix to the final containing photos of all the drivers of the decade covered would be very interesting).
team by team, but no cars...
Complete maybe yes, but it’s not car by car and even less a technical analysis of the cars. It just summarises every team’s results and racing evolution for every year, with many nice pictures. If this is what you want, then it could be a five star job. However, if you expect a description of every car that raced in 1980s F1 you are in for a major disappointment.

Very Much Worth the Wait (Continued)
...and an informative successor to the predecessor volumes covering the Sixties and Seventies. A tumultuous decade to say the least, and not due only to burgeoning ground effects and the turbos, but even though the subject decade began nearly 40 years ago leafing through the book's pages and choice pictures doesn't make it feel that distant. On to the Nineties? And I suppose I should ask, Why not the Fifties?
Great volumes!!
Great addition to the previous two volumes. Can’t wait for the fifties!!
Fantastic book
Really well written, properly researched and with excellent illustrations, this is a book for any F1 fan. Please could you do the 90s now?
Great pictures and informative text
Really liked the way the author went trough all the cars of every year. Very informative and the pictures are great.
Formula 1 Car by Car 1980 - 1989
A good over-view of the 1980's F1
