Loved It
This is a very good book. The storyline is fantastic. All of the characters were outstanding. The character of Andrew was a first class pig. I was not sad that he did not make it to the end. I don't believe that I could have made it all the way out west in such bad conditions. My hat is off for all the brave people that made the journey for real.
Too many tears
For such a strong young lady the tears flowed a little too freely. Understandably such a young girl of high society stricking out on a cross country treck on the Oregon trail with a new but hateful husband was a tearful situation, but by the end of the long and treacherous journey she grew into a strong, determined young woman who knew what she wanted and a plan to get there. No more tears were necessary.
Coroner's Way West
This was a very well written story about a young girls quest west from Boston to Oregon as a member of a wagon train. Her adventure includes a marriage of convenience so as not to have to travel alone with a strict and hard man. She experiences all the hardships and difficulties along the way but also finds love as well. I would definitely recommend this novel!
Historical Romance
The story line and the characters are well developed and the history's accuracy adds to he novel. The novel is marred by the many grammatical errors, especially with possessives. These errors should be corrected and the novel will be first rate.
Beautiful Story
This book is the best historical western I've read in a very long time. Felt as if I was right with Corrine every inch of the trek from Boston to Oregon . Congratulations, Ms. Banicki! Well done.
Wonderful….
story! Loved the writing, the characters, and the plot. definitely a book I will revisit! AND… No swear words or explicit sex!
I have found a new author to Love
The first book of the Wildflowers series was so full of excitement beginning with a young girl's marriage of convenience that started out pitifully and led to such a God-filled Blessing in the end. Thank you Leah for using your talent to MAGNIFY GOD!!
Awesome book
Started to read this, wasn't sure at first but very happy and can'twait to read book 2 and continue on through this series. It is so interesting that I had trouble putting it down. I would find myself wondering what was next to come. Very interesting, relatable and had a lit of action. Will read more of your books for sure.
Tastefully written!
Leah Baniki is an excellent writer! I could "see" things as she so skillfully wrote about them! She had twists in the story that I didn't anticipate! I can't wait to read book #2!
Second reading.
I read this book several years ago and loved it then and loved it again. A compelling story of a wagon train heading to Oregon Territory and the many hardships and determination of the hardy people who made the journey. There is joy, tears, danger, lives lost, friendships forged, and love found. Definitely an enjoyable book to read.

overcoming the elephant
What a wonderful love story of grit and determination! So thankful for the positive spin put on a nasty beginning to a marriage of convenience. So shameful to see how Corine was treated by Andrew and how she refused to stay defeated and used her healing gifts to save lives while traveling the Oregon Tail.
I Loved It
This book is well written from the beginning to the end. It’s packed with knowledge of the Oregon Trail and life-altering experiences. I hope Ms Banicki wrote other books, can’t wait to read another one!
Attention grabbing!
I was drawn in to the storyline within the first few pages. Loved the main character’s ability to hold her temper and think through the consequences of her actions. Yet she was not afraid to speak up when necessary. A story of love, fortitude, endurance and forgiveness that was quite refreshing.
Corrine
I am giving this book a three. I think there are many grammatical errors. I've read several other books about the Oregon Trail and have found them to be better than this one.
Wonderfully written
I just finished reading this book and I feel like I’ve just traveled across the country by wagon train! I loved the story and learned so many things I didn’t know before! I’ll be reading the rest of the series for sure!
Love conquers all
What a beautiful moving story. This story show how love and kindness and honesty are a true blessing.something not easily found in today's world
Great book!!!
I had a hard time putting this book down! I loved the adventure! I can't wait to start the next book!
Good Story
I loved the story. It did not flow as well as it could have, sometimes jumping awkwardly from one paragraph to the next. The author appears to be an inexperienced writer in this book. Hopefully over time she has polished her style.
Weak story
I just wasn't sure what the point of this story was. It's like the author picked up a few historical facts and then tried to write a story around them. It was very disjointed. I don't know what the point was to Andrew. I get that she needed an escort, but the relationship was just very bizarre. His treatment of her just wasn't realistic, other than to make him a bad husband. Her knowledge of plants seemed to be just thrown in to give her some heroic relevance, and once again put in knowledge of a subject and write a book around it. Her relationship with Katie... where was this supposed to go? Again, just pointless. The conversations between people were very juvenile and awkward, and I wasn't sure where the story was going at times. Examples: Meeting Lucas and his family and suddenly there are looks between Lucas and Corinne, but he's engaged. Ok. So this is supposed to be her new love interest. How did this relationship even develop and is it developing? It was again, not realistic. "Doli" and then paragraphs later, learning her language, but she couldn't speak a word of English, despite her tribe having a relationship with a white trading man...seems far fetched and again....the purpose of the whole thing was just non-existent. Then the whole bizarre thing with Sidney? Ugh. The, "I'm not giving up on you", and the allegations about Lucas being a criminal....just too much. There was just no flow or reason for most of the goings- on. I just didn't know what the point was. It was barely a romance novel at all, and historical as far as a few facts thrown in....just a very tiring story and not a good read.
Very Poor Quality Read
The story is very interesting. However, the juvenile style of writing along with the huge number of grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors greatly diminish the enjoyment of reading this book. This is the first book in a series and was free. I won't be purchasing any other books by this author due to the unprofessional, poor quality of the writing.
Living life!!!
At times we say things or make decisions we realize later were done in haste. If we are young, we grow up quickly. If you enjoy the west in the early days, you will love joining this wagon train. I enjoyed it immensely!!!!
Good Story
Corrine enters into an arranged marriage so that she can get to her father. The journey is intriguing and takes her along the Oregon Trail. It is a fascinating that drew me in and had me in Corrine's corner. I loved this historical novel and can't wait to read more from the author.
Beautiful Clean Historical Western of Oregon Trail
Traveling from Boston to Oregon in 1848 by wagon train, can be a formidable task for anyone. For Corrine Temple, a seventeen year old young lady whose father has arranged a marriage for her in order to have safe passage on the trail so that they can reunite, well......it’s about to bring a whole level of hardship, trouble, heartbreak, and embarrassment she never imagined. However, Corrine is soon making a name for herself among those she travels with in the wagon train, and with the Indians they meet up with, due to her knowledge and abilities of how to help people with flowers and plants she collects and makes into medicine to heals wounds or sickness. Her new husband is not so impressed; he isolates her from others, including her best friend with threats if she disobeys him, he calls her a child and expresses how foolish she is. Not only does Corrine face that ill mannered treatment that she must endure, but with it, all the emotional challenges of the Oregon Trail including accidents, illness, and death. How can she find her way and what waits for her at the end of this journey? This is a powerful story of a young woman with high values, a future dream, and sheer determination that will evolve into greater strength in order to conquer the hardship of a loveless marriage, and the brutality of the Oregon Trail, with the deepest of love, and compassion for others along the way. I listened to the AUDIO version of this story, and the narrator was absolutely brilliant. It was a well paced reading, enjoyable to listen to with character voices that were unique and distinguishable from one another. I am pleased to recommend this historical fiction with a SOLID 5 STARS 🌟
Great series
It was nice e to.b It was nice to go back to a time when people had integrity and were not afraid of hard work. I felt like I was on the Oregon trail. Those brave people were such a big part of our history. it's definitely a feel good book. This is my second time reading this series.
Best heart warming series
Please dear readers you must follow these wonder characters through their journeys and growth in Faith and life. Don't miss this wonderful series on men and women you will admire and deeply respect their courage and fortitude to find a new life in the west. This is truly how the west was won.
Great Book
I grew up along the Snake River and traveled all over Oregon so it was great to read about a fictional journey. The landscape descriptions were great and the story followed many who did travel to Oregon. The characters were ones you loved and rooted for as they made their journey!
Great read
I don't think anyone living in the 21st century could fully understand what the people in the 18 hundreds went through to move from the east to the west. The author really did her research to describe the truth of what it took. As a Christian, I'm so happy to read a love story where God is involved! And how much the travelers relied on, and trusted him with their dreams for a better life. Knowing this was a Christian book is why I got it
No Editing
Good: I read this for free and it helped point me to God during some difficult times. I might’ve been frustrated if I’d actually paid for it. Seemingly accurate geography, generous portrayal of Native Americans. Christians are also portrayed well and friendships cross cultural and class boundaries. The writer introduced some strong female characters, some realistic difficulties, foods, etc. The story is interesting with lots of happenings. Bad: This story is Filled with Hopeless grammatical and spelling errors. I’m in shock that this is supposedly the “newly edited” version. Ugly: Ridiculous events that were beyond my imagination even for a romantic novel. Boston bred city girl sweetly adapts to wagon train life with ill tempered brutish husband. Sure thing. She keeps his wagon full of stuff, being sure to haul it over impassable mountains. She never has to dump any belongings to lighten the load in any of their 3 wagons! She never goes hungry or frozen. She also drags along an entire trunk of fitted ball gowns from Boston to Oregon. The lavender sachets keep them fresh. She wears them upon arriving in Oregon and they fit her perfectly even though she’s probably lost 15 pounds or more while on the trail. Sure thing. Romance novels aren’t meant to be real, so call it artistic license? Maybe.
Flowers bring medicine
Just as flowers bring joy they also bring medicine. Knowing which ones to use for diseases of all kinds is a wonderful gift and in the early days was passed from mother to daughter or a generation of learning. Traveling from East to West on Wagon trains was such a long and hard time for any family to do but the promise of a better life, or having land of their own was a great enticement for so many. Loved all this story bringing a look into such a hard time in History. Loved it
Okay, lacks something
I liked the premise of the story and some of the characters seemed interesting enough. Though, I did have my share of issues with the story. The biggest one being Andrew, which quite frankly still leaves me feeling like I missed something. His character made no sense to me. For instance: 1. He was repaying a favor to her father. (Yet, couldn't be cordial to her?) 2. Would be working with her father in the future. (Yet, couldn't be cordial to her?) 3. He was planning on getting an annulment. (Yet, he still couldn't be cordial to her?) 4. This wasn't his first trip on the trail, yet he still felt the need to distinguish the roles between her "maid" and herself? Which he learned from his father? (Makes even less sense when we are introduced to her family.) 5. Andrew telling people that they hadn't had sex, that he couldn't wait for an annulment to be rid of her. And that keeps her safe how? 6. In his journals, he praising her and doesn't mention one negative thing about her. He wrote about her so fondly, that his mother inquired if she was pregnant. Wait, what? He boast to men on the trail about not sleeping with her and wanting to be rid of her, but nothing in his journal about either? Honestly, for me, he is was the most interesting character and then she just killed him off. And I am left flabbergasted that we never learn why he acted that way towards her. I can surmise why, but nothing I come up with would give reason for him treat her the way he did.
Good pieces of history with an interesting story
While I found there to be some holes in some of the characterization and the story, overall I lived it.
A fun read
This is an easy to read book and I enjoyed reading about the Oregon Trail and some of the history of the wagon trains.
Good writing
Good writing, although a little more attention needs to be paid to the use of s (plural) and 's (possessive). Storyline flows well into all 9 books (last one was a little weak but...). Looking forward to the next book in the series.
A relaxing afternoon read
I got just what I wanted from this book: an easy, relaxing read.
Another favorite author to add to my list!
This book was so hard to put down! After just a few pages, I was feeling as if I was on this journey with them. Wow, the wagon masters rules... I struggled as a mom, reading the punishment of the two boys who purposefully chose to sleep in their night to watch the animals, the horses and oxen were swiped by a small band of indians, who "found" then after a price was agreed upon for their return. The punishment was barbaric, but then, the boys choice to sleep on their night watch was devastating and could have been life threatening for those in the train who would be left with no ox to pull their wagon thru the treacherous trails to their final destination. The reality of the consequence they knew would be paid if they were caught did not stop them from doing what they had planned. I was reminded of God's love for us, our thinking we can get seat with doing our own thing without being caught. But, reality is, God set up the rules for our protection and there will be a consequence for our choice, either good or bad. Nothing gets last God, He sees all and knows all and more times than not our choices have a ripple effect, just as these young boys choice did, and it effects many, many people....
Heroin
Great historical romance. I really like the one's that cross our great country. Yes, we have a lot to answer for in treatment of Native Americans but this is a story.
Wagon Train Romance
I loved the story line about adventures on a wagon train on the Oregan Trail. The characters were relatable. The only reason I gave 4 stars and not 5 was the editing but I would recommend to read this book.
'Finding Her Way' - A wonderful, well-wriiten historical romance
This is the first part of a series for all you historical fans. THis isn't action-packed yet it isn't "mushy" either. It is a book the male population would probably enjoy. This is a story of a young woman going out West to join her father. She was a spoiled Kentucky girl who refused to go West with him after her mothers sudden death. She was Fourteen at that time and mad at him for selling their home filled with memories. She chose to live with her aunt in Boston and suffered miserably for three years because of that choice. Now, the only presentable way to travel that far is with an arranged marriage with a young man graduating from Harvard Veterinary University. He was a good friend of her fathers who had paid for his education. Now he was doing this as repayment. He was rude and unkind to her from the time the agreement was made and through the journey to the West. Corinne was determined to make the best of it until shortly after their journey began when he made it clear he did not want her for a wife. She would just need to endure the trip until she could be with her father again. It was a long, grueling trip. There wasn't many occurrences one hasn't read before but it was interesting, once again reminding us of the many hardships others have endured so others can selfishly enjoy the results now. The story does continue awhile in the period of time after they arrived in Oregon. This book is of Arranged marriage, differences in the eastern and western cultures of the 1800s. It is of the pilgrimage, hardships, friendships, natural healing remedies used, relationships with the American Indians, and romance. This was very well-written and a delightfully clean read. I give it a Five Stars rating.
Wonderful series left me hanging
This book is one of a series, which is incomplete. So when I got to the last one I was distressed that the next in the series is no where on the horizon. Each volume ends abruptly so thankfully the next one picks up easily enough. The story explores women and their roles and really stretches the stereotypes without sacrificing believability. The reason for 4 stars is lack of proofreading. There were way too many punctuation and spelling errors, and somehow the formatting is off so the next page does not flow from the previous page. This happens in kindle books in some books and I don't know why but it affects my ability to read the book. I am looking forward to more sequels. There are many characters to keep up with and the reader cannot be left hanging!
Why would anyone criticize this story?
Good clean romance story about the hardships of traveling on a wagon train. I read some of the negative reviews and felt they were blown way out of proportion. Yes, a few minor edit errors but so what? I plan on reading the sequel.
DNF: poorly researched, poorly edited.
Did Not Finish/"DNF": First, there are no ranches in Kentucky. There are farms. I've lived and worked on those farms, so I'm fairly sure I have that right. It would have taken only a little historical research to figure that out. Again, I've been there and done that. The editing must have mostly been done by computer, because there are mistakes from page one. The dialogue and characters are both wooden, stilted, and half-realized. It's always a shame to see the potential for a good story befouled by impatience, ignorance, possibly even outright greed. Whatever the cause, the cure is simple. Have the patience to do the best possible job. Crappy, ill-conceived books flung out at random bury the good ones in their lingering stench. I'm ashamed for those who don't care enough to properly execute the art. It's unprofessional.
The book I've always wanted to read!!!
At long last! - Memorable, amazingly loveable -plus a few unsavory- characters, real joys, sorrows, challenges and a completely surprising storyline that delivers history, strong moral character & interesting EVERYTHING!!! Can't wait to read more of Leah Banicki's stories & series. ENJOY!!!
Excellently written
I received this book free from one of the book sites. I do not remember which one! This is my honest review. What an amazing story Ms. Banicki has told. This is one of the better historical stories I've read, regarding the crossing of East to west coast. I felt like I was truly reading Corrine's diary. Her growth from young girl to young woman was remarkable. The love that grew between Lucas and Corrine was sweet and based on the belief that God has His hand on all. The characters were very real to me. Chelsea, Angela, Clive, Russell, and Brody were wonderful friends and family members adopted by Corrine. I was pleased with the way Corrine was able to survive her marriage of convenience with grace. Even when angry, Corrine managed to follow Andrew's ridiculous constraints and become her own person. The reason for the 4 stars is due to the sometimes confusing way extra, and often incorrect words, would appear. This seemed more problematic in the last half of the book. There were not a great many of them, just enough to disturb the flow of my reading and causing me to stumble along. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the travel across this country in the mid-1800s. The means of travel, the social customs, and the need of people working together is of great interest.
Sweet yet exciting
Loved how the book flowed an easy read. I loved the characters and I could easily picture them in my mind. This is a storyline I would love to see as a movie or series. Enjoyed book one and came wait to read the other books in this collection.
Wah wah
I didn't want the story to end. Yet, as with every good book, it must end sometime. I recognize the Willamette valley. I can't tell you how many times I have been there. Oregon was my home away from home growing up. Now, I seem to have migrated the opposite direction from this wagon train. This book brings out the beauty and ruggedness of the trip west...speaking from someone who has made the trip back to my home state of California and Oregon several times. I have seen Donner Pass and stood by that memorial. I have ridden on the Dalles from Eastern Oregon into what is now the I5 corridor. It brought home all of those things all over again and made me homesick.
Cast of believable characters
This story captivated my imagination with a storyline that I could see clearly in my minds eye! Every character had an strong personality and was valuable to the tale. I could weep with the characters during their heartaches and dance with them around the campfires at night. Excellent book!
Very entertaining
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and learned a lot about the hardships suffered through and endured by those leaving the comfort of their homes and easy existence of their entertaining lives. The way this story is written I felt as if I was experiencing all that was happening and sometimes it made me cry and at others laugh but all the while I was eager to find out what was going to happen next. The main character is such a knowledgeable young lady and in her favor she is very willing to teach others the skills that she learned from her mother as well as to help heal those who needed it. She has a very generous heart and that comes through very clearly. The men she is in contact with are mostly very nice except for one who drives her nuts with his forced and unwanted attention. I loved the very refreshing and adaptable voice of Reen Vogel as she narrated this epic story in a very professional and interesting manner in the audio version. These two artists, the writer and narrator, make a great team and I thank them for sharing this lovely, clean, exciting, enjoyable historical romance with me and I am happy to recommend it as great entertainment. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request, via Audiobook Boom, and have voluntarily left this review
Great read, 4 stars only for grammar errors
Did I enjoy this book? Absolutely! Am I a grammar nazi? No way. The errors I noticed were repetitions of words or words placed twice in a sentence that hindered the flow of the reading. Primarily, these errors were closer to the end of the book and didn’t bother me that much. I’ve already purchased the 2nd book in this series and can’t wait to start reading it to continue this journey. Now, all the bad stuff being said, I really enjoyed this book. The characters came alive and showed a lot of personal growth through their trials and journey. The story flowed. To me, it was a good representation of a historical period in America. The author also has a knowledge of the benefits of using oils to help in many different ailments. I think that might just be the first time I’ve read a story where essential oils were promoted and used so correctly.
One who loves to read
A hard story to put down. I read it in one day, it was that compelling. An arranged marriage led to hostilities. A courageous young woman travels across country and grows up, finding herself. God works wonders for sure.
Good story
This is a good wagon train romance. I really enjoyed the story And I'm looking forward to The next book which continues With other people from the same book.
A delightful read
Clean, entertaining, and fun to read. I have never read this author before but won't hesitate to do so again
A beautiful story of perseverance
Wagon train travel across the United States was indeed treacherous. This story is about survival and the power of God.
Wonderful
I loved this book so much. Great story. Great characters. Excellent writing. I loved the interest in herbs, flowers and plants for medicinal purposes. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
A new life
Story of a young woman and her life as she travelled west to start a new beginning it tells of her trials and friend she meets on the trail
Excellent
I found this book so fulfilling, from the start,I loved this book..I wondered why her husband was so cruel , loved the all the characters ,even the few bad ones..and the ending was great. I appreciated how some people treated woman and others with such respect.
Beautiful Series ♥️♥️
I loved every book in this series. Can’t wait for book 10!! Best Christian series I have ever read!! Love them all!!
Loved thus book
Really enjoyed the ride on this wagon train. Looking forward to next book. I hope it will be as good.
Much better book than the other reviewers comments
Gave it 5 stars because I loved the story and felt I was there experiencing the Oregon Trail. The heroine used medicinal essential oils in healing fellow travelers and Native Americans. Heroine is from Kentucky and only lived in Boston 3 years with her high society aunt before leaving for the wagon train that would reunite her with her father in Oregon. Couldn’t go by herself of course so had to marry the son of a wealthy family friend who was just graduating college. Her new husband’s parents lived by her dad in Oregon. Husband is snooty and a control freak and expects his wife not to do any manual labor like a servant. So he hires a guy with a chuck wagon to cook for them on the trail and two other men to drive the other two wagons they have in addition to his servant and her ladies maid. This book is free why not try it? I will be buying the next book in the series to see what happened to her ladies maid that got left at a fort along the way.
Well written & very enjoyable
Such an amazing novel. Based on a single female who marries just to get to Oregon to be her father (arranged by her father) then finds out that her husband does not want to remain married and will not allow her to - empty her luggage, wash the clothes, etc. Plus he has his 'man' and expects her personal maid to remain just that - a maid- (even though the 2 females have grown very close in the last 3 years. - All that goes on while traveling to Oregon City - BUT much much more happens. I will say that I have read many wagon train novels / stores but they were not as detailed as this novel is. This also appears to be a much longer novel than most - even though the eBook says it is only 214 pages - the location says it is 8496 long. it seems to be a lot longer than just 214 pages....... AND well worth it. It is also separated in 3 parts - which will come in handy if you want to stop after each part.
An Enjoyable Journey to the Past
I always question the year these historical books really should belong to. Pockets did not appear in clothing prior to the 1860's. This was set in the year 1848. That was just a tiny example of changes during a 20 year period. Besides those kind of errors, I read this in one sitting. I really enjoyed the story minus the horrible husband, & sighed a deep breath of relief when he got sick.
4 1/2 stars
I love stories about the wagon trains crossing America. It was a phenomenally hard journey. This story followed what I have read before though the heroine had money and help most women did not. I wanted to keep reading but had to put it down to live. Lol if you like the old west read this novel.
Could have been good
This book could have been so many things but just kept missing the mark. First, it is full of grammatical errors and was obviously am written in first person and (poorly) changed at the last minute. There are several spots where it is both. A good editor, or friend to read through, would have been smart. Second, the story lacked the right details for an Oregon Trail story. There were a few good scenes (finding the Indian tribe, river crossings, painting Independence Rock), but opportunities for major events were just glossed over, like mountain passes and the arrival in Oregon. It's like the author did only a little research. Third, the characters were flat. Corinne had no faults. She valiantly succeeded each trail, even having her nasty husband conveniently die off. Giving her an odd skill, like healing and essential oils, is interesting but not character development. It just tied story bits together. Andrew was only nasty-mean. His journal was a poor story change obviously added only to help finish the story. Clive was the only character with a little depth. Maybe since he was older, his flaws were behind him and therefore he felt real. Lastly, as a Christian romance (which I don't usually read) it missed the "God" mark. A few whispered prayers, some church attendance references and a few sentences about how God changed her life does not make a good Christian story. Corinne tells her Father on arriving in Oregon that God changed her but there is no difference in her personality. It feels like, similar to the change from first person, a few Christian phrases were added in at the last minute, just to change genres. The author has potential, but needs help. Get a good editor, and a grammar checking software program. Thoroughly research your setting or go with a region you know. Develop characters before writing and don't change voice unless you rewrite the entire book. Be Christian or don't, but lukewarm, wishy-washy doesn't work. Take writing courses, get serious constructive criticism, edit and rewrite. Self publish doesn't mean you can be sloppy or lazy. I hope the other stories are better, but I won't waste my time.
Good read
Good western book
A great historical book
I loved this book. I appreciate an author who can write a great adventure and not use any bad language or use sexual descriptions in it. This is wonderful book and the author weaves the story in a descriptive way as to keep you wondering what is going to happen next. My ancestors traveled the Oregon trail from Missouri to Marion County, Oregon. I gained a further respect and appreciation of the trials and great hardships they went through because of the author's descriptive detail of difficul creek and river crossings. I can not even imagine seeing a covered wagon being lowered over a cliff by a block, tackle and pulley system. Wow. Not to mention the troubles with wild animals and Indians too. The months that it took to get to Oregon and the loss of life for many and the oxen and horses and the wear and tare on these pioneers is incredible. Thank you, I look forward to reading more by this inspired author and this series.
Corrine and her journey to Oregon
This story is about Corrine Halpole and her journey, by wagon train, to find her father. After living with her wealthy Aunt in a big city in the east for three years, Corrine wants to reunite with her father. The sights, sounds and emotions of her long, dangerous travels are expertly told. I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

Half way through the story the wagon train was at Independence Rock, the half way mark on the Oregon Trail. The story was interesting enough to me to ignore the poor editing. I had family that came across the country by wagon train, so I enjoyed following the stops along the way. Most interactions with the natives were amiable, but some tribes were quick to take advantage. I know that today by car the trip from Oregon City to the coast is a few hours, so am sure that a ferry ride to the ocean was more than one day out and one day back. If such a thing was available in 1848? Even 100 years later it was a long day to motor to the coast and back. I also know of families who had ancestors walk the distance as children and complained about it the remainder of their lives. Interesting story and it sent me to Wikipedia often enough to be a success on research. I will eventually read more by this author.
Hisorical Oregon Trail novel
Excellent daily account of the journey of a rich young lady from Boston who seeks to make the journey via Oregon Trail to reunite with her father. As a returned favor to her father, Andrew Temple marries Corinne (in name only) to join his family there also. Not quite sure of what to make of Andrew and his surly attitude towards Corinne, but he made the first part of the trip quite unpleasant with his condescending attitude. Almost presented like a diary portraying hardships, disease, weather, experience with Indians, medicinal interventions, and love etc in this very thorough well-researched novel. Recommended for all ages for anyone who enjoys a historical account of life on the Oregon trail.
Corrine
A strong name for a very strong and courageous young woman. A trip across the state's with unknown people as protectors and so much to lose on the trip. Yet all the challenges can be a changing factor. The ending was bitter and yet sweet, I totally recommend and enjoyed.
Certainly keeps your attention!
I love reading about what the old west was like and how people coped and What they endured to get there!
Enjoyable
It was hard to put down. Wanted to know what was going to happen next.. you could just picture in your mind the story.
Read in one day.
The story of Corrine and Lucas was so rich, thoughtful, exciting and inspiring, I could hardly put the book aside. I love the narration of Corrine’s life, her struggle to find her way among pressures from her Aunt, leaving her father when he left for Oregon, the hardships of life on the Oregon trail, then the adventure when they finally made it to Oregon. A good read, would recommend highly.
Bad Editing, Bad Story (SPOILERS in this review)
This is not the worst book I've read, but it's up there on my list. First, if you are the type of person who is thrown out of the story by editing issues, DO NOT READ this book. They are everywhere. Bad overall editing, serious issues with tense (i.e., mid-paragraph tense switches between past and present), POV switches that are made worse by the tense issues, probable use of the Word spell-checker, and the ever-popular trap of using fancier words and saying the wrong thing. Also the dialogue is bad, partly because the author does not use contractions in dialogue, and partly because they seem to be trying to be more formal since it's a historical. Some examples: "Andrew had taken a dislike to her when they first met and she would bear it until he was no longer her charge." - Intent is clearly to say that he is in charge of her (see spoilers for more on this issue), but the wording says that she's baby-sitting him. "I brought some lavender to share with them and hope to learn about any local fauna that has healing properties from the women and healers." - Healing animals would be pretty cool, but I'm sure the intent was healing plants (or "flora"). Also the use of "Ms." when referring to a period character. I'm generally able to overlook bad editing if I like the story. I didn't like this one enough. It was free, however, so I'm only out my time. SPOILERS The biggest issue is that so much is just not explained - like why the husband of convenience treats the main character like a small girl who is not bright, especially his fixation with her not doing any work on a wagon trail. At times, the story develops a sort of "Oregon Trail" feeling (but no one dies of dysentery - cholera, instead), but it is clear that the author did decent research and didn't completely make stuff up. The characters are kind of cardboard. The book also goes way too long, and the troubles after they get to Oregon seem kind of over-the-top. I don't usually suggest this, but it might have been better in 2 books. SPOILERS
I Could Not Put it Down
This is an adventure. I have read many Oregon Trail stories, but this one stands out. Banicki nails down her characters through their actions and interactions. I want more!
Cards
Really really nice product
Loved this book!
I enjoyed reading about the trials and triumphs of the characters within the storylines. It is well worth the time to read it. Be prepared to be absorbed into the lives of the people in this book.
New author I found to read!
This is a great read! It tells the story of moving west as it truly was! I can't wait to read more of Leah Banicki's writings! Her stories capture you! You have to read more!
Finding her way
What a wonderful journey in life when you are giving the love of your life. You have suffered so much and did not give up hope even though you faced many problems along the way. I really enjoyed Clive as he took an interest in Corinne and was a great protective guy who wanted to keep her safe on her journey across the country. So happy that she and Lucas got to celebrate their wedding in the end. This is a great frontier book about history and the settlement of our nation.
A not gushy romance; YAY!
Entertaining story with historical facts in it to learn from. Great characters finding their way. through some seriously bad lands. I love to see a woman getting her game on and has a good business plan with the knowledge to actually be qualified to carry out her dream for success. I have serious respect for our ancestors courage in crossing all those long miles, mountains and desert to build the now beautiful Pacific North West. It's a place that's dazzled me and caused me to want to go live there. Now that I've seen it a few times, it has only whetted my appetite for more! The land is astounding and calls me.
Could have earned 5 stars BUT....
...the gross misuse of commas made the reading stumble. Jr. High students are taught the proper use of commas. All editors should know how, but too many do not! The story was magnificent. The struggles that the animals and people in the wagon train endured was described but not in gross detail, thank goodness. It was still heartbreaking to read! Life today is far easier than what daring pioneers endured. Tragedy abound and love blossomed as a young woman traveled from Boston to Oregan in the 1800s to join her father after a 3-year separation. Her life is expertly described by the author. There are surprises along the journey which help develop the woman's character and path in life. Recommended reading.
Oh so good
I enjoyed all the facts and adventure that this book held. It is well written ,and I enjoyed reading it. I've read a lot of the traveling West stories and this one was very good. I look forward to the story continuing with others that travel through out this book.
The Trials of Cori's Journey
This great saga follows a young girl across the great US To Oregon country with a wagon train and a loveless marriage. She grew into a strong woman with a history of healing with oils and plants. I enjoyed this journey with her. I look forward to Angela's story next. #PickThisBook #ReadThisSeries
HEAi loved the suspense
I loved the suspense and the reality of the plot.It told of the many dangers and deadly hazards of traveling in a wagon train..The added romance was wonderful
Wonderful story from so many years ago.
This is a wonderful story from many years ago. I love stories from days so long ago. It gets your mind thinking about how it would have been to live back then with all the trials you had to deal with on a daily basis. Life was very tough in 1848.
Great story
I thoroughly enjoyed this wagon train romance. I especially was thrilled to find that this author has accurate details concerning essential oils and plants and their use, since that is one area of my own expertise with LifeRegeneration.net. Also thrilled with the creative way this author resolved the land issue with the town council, though would have liked to see the Prince family dealt with more surely. Maybe this challenge will be dealt with in the next book?
Finding her Way
I absolutely could not stop reading this book!! I loved it and didn't want it to end. I will continue to read through all in series!!!! Thank You for your story!! Great book!!!
Recommend
Life is hard on the trail and harder still when you enter into an arranged marriage with a man who belittles you at every chance and threatens those you care about most. How long can this go on? He has promised to obtain an annulment once they reach Oregon, but what if he doesn’t? Corrine earns the respect of the people on the wagon train as well as the Indians they meet through her knowledge of plants and their healing properties. In the end, this is what saves her and gives her hope. Does Corrine end up finding true love with another or does Andrew remain in her life? This was a read it to the end book.
taste in fiction was for chunky historical romances.
It was a real storybook romance.
Human history.
This book shows both the frailty and strength of these people.also, so much history. Plus showing hos faith in God works in lives. Enjoyed this book. Kept me interested through the whole book.
Beyond a pleasure to read!
I hated to put this story down! The remarkable young woman, Corinne, kept me in awe! I felt like I was making the journey to Oregon City with her! Truly I can't fathom how these brave souls traversed the country under such brutal circumstances. I loved every minute of this story and was sad when I finished. I highly recommend this book to any woman of any age!
Rarely do I rate books
I liked the story line and that there was no explicit sex descriptions. However, I think that perhaps this is the first book the author has published. It appears not to have been edited as the dialogue keeps flipping back from the main character seems to be telling the story and then a third voice is telling it. For example: in one paragraph she will be saying "I" and then "they" , etc. This is done repeatedly throughout the book as though there was an outline and the spaces between the lines of the outline have been filled in.
good
This story begins the pioneer adventure.
Finding her Way
This book was an excellent read for me a Christian woman!! Keep up the great work! So many books say they are Christians but their wording is as the Bible says, you know the tree by the fruit it bears.
Lucas and Corinne
This is an adventurous and exciting love story. Written by Leah Baninki. These families have travel a long and dangerous path from Boston to Oregon by wagon trail. They have overcome many unimaginable trials, a marriage of convience, illness and death to make this trip. Status nor money were able to over come any of their hardships. You will enjoy discovering how Lucas and Corinne find their happily ever after.
Tragedy, Hope and Love Bring About Joy
This wonderful story tells of struggle and acceptance, tragedy and hope. Faith in God and perseverance leads to triumph and joy. Well written and captivating.
Must Wed to Go West
This story is an interesting approach to an unwanted marriage needed to get Corrine to her father in the West. She leaves a golden life with in a contracted marriage to travel months in a wagon train across the barren lands to the Oregon coast. The events that occur are dangerous and many deaths results from accidents, illness, and unknown enemies. Well written and described as the story's history and western life in the mid 1800's take place.
Very good Oregon trail book
I chose this rating because it was easy reading and kept my interest from start to finish. Although I did have to skip over some of the hardships written about the trail, I've read so much of these kinds of books that it is hard for me to read about what they went through. The book is clean and interesting and I love it .
A comfortable, smooth reading experience.
If you were able to abide the poor editing of this book and stick with it I think you would find it to be a very good story. It deals mainly with Corrine's wagon train journey to reunite with her father in Oregon. It was a bit different from the usual because of the interest of the main character in developing a farm to raise flowers for medicinal purposes. The different people she meets along the way establish the story line that will be continued in the next two books. It has a Christian theme so if that puts you off, this would not be a good series for you. It's definitely an excellent book for young ladies and sets many values that are needed in this society. I would definitely recommend this series.
Excellent read
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. The struggles, hardships and often times deadly, months long trip to a better life was amazing.
Wonderful story if wagon train romance.
I love the strong woman character. The medicinal teachings passed down from the women in her family shows a lineage of healing grace. She is forced to marry by society so she can travel to her Father. The husband is so unkind to her and she almost loses herself. When he dies there is not much remorse. She actually blossoms without the tyranny of her husband by name only. Then she finds true love, acceptance, and a growing desire of building a business. Back then there was not much acceptance if women in business. I give a four star only because I found that by leaving information out about one of the characters leaves me wondering about why.....
finding her way
I have purchased forty or so 99 cent books and many of them are very good and a few not so. This is a very good book. Good research great characters places this book in my opinion near the top of my unofficial list. Andrew I didn't get. Freshly married to a pretty girl traveling on the prairie under the stars beautiful scenery new interesting people and he treats her as if she has an awful contagious disease. No romance something is wrong with that character. Fortunately he dies and I have no sympathy for him. Then at the trails end we meet his parents who happen to be very nice. They read andrews journal and he speaks highly of corrine. I believe I could have a changed opinion of sir andrew if he had only recognized the wonderful girl he had and on his deathbed told her so. That way his journal would have been a little more believable. At any rate this is otherwise a good read. I will definitely tackle other books by this author. Marshall Dell
Corsage Beyond
One of the things I liked most were the faith Cora had and the Grant family and Clive was a true friend and Angela with so much patience and forgiveness in her heart and how the Temples never had to know the truth about what happened with there son but I'm the journal I believe he was really impressed with Cora .I would say I felt like I was on the wagon train as a friend to Cora .I would give this 10 of it was a rating .Thanks for this inspiration of faith in your Book.
So much to endure
This was the second time I have enjoyed reading this book. However, I believe that I have gained more insight in how strong these pioneers were in dealing with all the hardships they had to endure in order to see their dreams of a new "home" come true. The writing is so honest that I felt the sand in my eyes and the parched throat as we walked besides the wagons on our way to our new "homes". Not many authors have me so into the characters. Kudos to you Ms. Banicki
Fun historical romance
Enjoyed being transported back to this historical time, so removed from our lives. It makes you admire the strength of those that carved this country.
Great Read
I really enjoyed this book and could hardly put it down. Reviews that I read before getting this book were deceiving. I agree that the grammar was bad, because there were many sentence fragments throughout the book, and the punctuation was not always right. I could still follow the story and enjoy it. I recommend it to anyone to read and ask you to not let other reviews stop you from getting this book.
Pioneer history
Pioneer history very interesting ,: the American pioneers lifes ,struggles, friendships, strength and faith they had to survive. I am going to read book 2 of series
A descriptive historical and adventurous saga.
Love reading this historical book. While reading, I felt like I was part of the story. Leah Banicki makes the characters come alive. I can't wait to read Angela's Hope for another adventure.
Lavender Dreams
I enjoyed reading this book about the brave pioneer people who came out West to settle in Oregon. One young woman had many Hardships and challenges to overcome but did it with support of new found friends, and met a future husband on the Oregon Trail trip.
So fascinating
I love the history. Still find new things with each new story. The herbal treatments are wonderful for everyone on the wagon train.!
Aghhh in a good way
I warn you , this book will make you mad then happy then sad then mad again. The main characters growth is not only believable but truthful. This is not a oh I have a little problem and then no more. This is a young woman growing into a strong woman while still holding onto her dreams and love.
I feel a connection
Cori ia such a great character. She is kind, loveable, and way more tolerant than I ever would have been. This story is filled with adventure and God's hand working in the lives of a wagon train. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Interesting History
I enjoyed this book but felt there were ways the author could have gone into more depth. Why was Andrew so horrible yet wrote sweet things about Corrine in his journal? Some insight into what made him tick would have been nice. There was more about believing and trusting in God at the very end of the story than throughout the rest of the story. I liked the characters and the author did a nice job in describing the hardships the characters faced.
Gripping?? Hardly.
Gripping?? Hardly.
FINDING Her Way
Truly enjoyed this book. I liked the beginning, middle, and the end. Never got bored reading it, and was entertained reading about the different cultures. There were good and bad people. The book focused a lot about how prayers and leaving things to God will be handled accordingly to his will and timing. Just a really good book in my opinion .J O
Corrine
A truly wonderful tale of a young socialite forced into an arranged marriage in order to have the necessary chaperone to cross the United States by wagon train. Well written and plenty of characters to make the book interesting.
I really did enjoy listening to it through audibles
Though I gave this book four stars out I five, I really did enjoy listening to it through audibles, but there were a few things that I questioned while reading but I later found out that they were true. I have lived in the Kansas City area of Missouri all of my life and I knew that the Missouri River ran through the area I didn't know that it ran through Independence and a few other things that I had to look up. Thank you Ms. Banicki for opening my eyes to some new things.
Love story
This book was a pleasant read. It was however geared more to young adults and teens. Is a clean sweet story.
Good plot line and character development
Good plot line and character development, but in very much need of editing. If you can look past the many grammar, spelling and sentence structure mistakes and keep track of which character’s point of view is being represented you might enjoy the story.
Definitely a page turner
This was a most enjoyable book and a deep look into what the women in the 1800's went through to travel to the West. I could hardly put it down. It is my routine to read for half an hour each night before I go to sleep. I would find myself turning pages for an hour or hour and a half. I will definitely be reading the other books in this series. It is so refreshing to read a book that is romantic, but has no vulgar language. And the proof reading was almost flawless which seems to be rare in digital books. For all these reasons, I encourage everyone to read this book.
Loved all characters
She developed each character so well without drawing things out for too long. I am not sure if this was her intent; however, she chose certain events to get detailed about and then summarize other events of time passing to move the story along. You ever felt that the story was too slow or too fast to enjoy.
Excellent read
This was a author I had never heard of and I came across this book while searching for another author. It sounded good so I bought it and I am glad I did. I have enjoyed it. Really good story.
Easy sweet romance
I thought the story about the trip was interesting, but once they reached the mountains, they rushed right on through. I was hoping the rest of the trip would be told with as much detail and adventure as the first half...but altogether it's a sweet love story with good language and good people. I enjoyed it very much.
Great plot
Since this was the first book I had read by the author, I was pleased that I loved the plot; there were several unexpected twists to the story. The author must have done her research; I loved the information about the "Medicine Woman" and the plants and how that integrated with the story. I look forward to reading more works by the author.
A "Life-Line" in History
The story of these brave souls who were so instrumental in the settling of our country provided me with hours of inspiring reading. I cried, laughed, cried some more, and then felt total peace as God's plans for these brave people came to be. It was ironic that we were driving from our Wyoming residence to our winter home in Southern California as I was reading about the wagon train progressing over the Oregon Trail. Much of the terrain we traversed reminded me of the wagons' path. How fortunate we are to travel 1200 Miles in 3 easy days. A well written story, and I encourage readers of all ages to read this beautiful part of American history.
Finally A woman of substance not just romance.
Love reading books during America's 1800's about the challenges women faced. A little romance is nice, but a woman's skills and perseverance played a very big part in survival & happiness also. They put me to shame. Loved the characters, wish she would write another series like this.
Realistic and Enthralling
I have often wondered about the lives of those who made their way to Oregon and Washington on Oregon Trail What kind of lives did they leave behind and how did women and children make the long walk? Having been in many of these areas by car and then getting out to walk in the ruts that remain even now I am full of admiration. This story gives you glimpses of what the trip must have been like. The characters are believable and appealing except for her foolish immature husband! I will definitely read book two!
Enjoyable Reading.
This was well written and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The characters were great as well as their adventures. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
Excellent
What a great job of describing the challenge of crossing this country in an open air vehicle! I wonder how many of us could or even would do it today.
I loved the storyline
I loved the book! I was looking for a pleasant read on a Saturday afternoon. This was it. So many reviews complained about the editing. I didn’t find it to be a huge problem. I was still able to read and enjoy the book. I loved the relationship between Corrine and Lucas and how it all came to be. I would recommend it if you like Oregon Trail type books! I plan to buy the next book in the series.
A three part story with adventure and love.
What I liked was that I too was on this journey with Cori seeing so many interesting adventures with both sorrow and joy. The 1850's was a time so many men, women and children crossed our great country enduring so many hardships to create a better life for themselves and for their children. This was a well written story which is easy to follow and to enjoy. This is an excellent first novel and I look forward to reading more of the adventures of settling in Oregon.
A Remarkable Journey
Corrines' travels were so interesting I read the book in one day. It was good to see that at times various Indian tribes were helpful to the wagon train. Love of family and importance of friends are beautifully described. The tale shows very realistically the hardships of the journey. The main character, Corrine, had an interest in the medicinal value of plants. This also added interest for the reader. This book is a good choice for anyone wanting a wholesome story regarding the early western area settling. I will look forward to more from this author.
4 1/2 Stars
4 1/2 Stars. An enjoyable read. Lots of unexpected twists and turns. I would recommend. Thanks to everyone who take the time to leave a review.
Some of wagon trains members settle in Oregon.
Several members of a wagon, settle in Oregon. They begin building their new lives as current residence, newly weds and existing families. Who are bond by the experiences they have shared. I enjoy stories of the settling of this country, the territory of state and the decade do not matter. Like the author I enjoy books I can climb into, multiple book series are my joy. Following the characters through generations. Enjoy!
Good read!
It was interesting to read how the different people handled there hard times and able to survive. I can't imagine young men and women of today doing anything that hard.
DON"T waste your time
I really don't know where to begin, this book was just that awful. I guess I will start with the author's own words. "This book was previously released as 'Seeing the Elephant'... I self published with only my own editing...I wanted to fix some mistakes...I want to make this book to be the best it can be...It went through a rewrite, an editor...I hope those that read 'Seeing the Elephant' will appreciate the changes, and my new readers will not be as distracted by my silly grammar mistakes from the first time around." That being said, I expected a well-written, well-edited book. This is NOT the case AT ALL. So I stumbled through comma splices, verb tense changes, modern slang (gonna), dangling participles, misplaced modifiers, narration changes from third person to first person back to third person, and a plethora of other grammatical errors, thinking that at least the plot must get better over time. NOPE! This was THE biggest waste of my reading time I've seen in a very very long time. I have NO idea who would be giving a book of such poor quality a five star rating. Honestly, I really don't enjoy bashing any author's work. But to put the statements in the beginning of the book that this author did, and then have writing so horrendous that even middle schoolers could do better, I have no choice but to tell it like it is. I will NEVER read another one of this author's books EVER EVER EVER.
Fun read
This book is entertaining and exciting. I stayed up late reading it. The characters are well described. I enjoyed the book
Enjoyable series 1st book
I enjoyed Corrine's story and I think the author did a good job with the character development. The only thing left up in the air was Andrews behavior and there never was an answer to this. His family seemed very nice and even his journal never implies the things that happened between he and Corrine. I would love to read more of this series, maybe there is an answer??
Great Christian romantic story
A great book for sure. I really enjoyed this story, aa lovely and fast read. Would read again for sure.
From living a pampered life to experiencing the hardships of the trail.
I enjoyed reading about Corinne's talent of being able to help the sick and the wounded. I liked how she made new friends, fell in love, and adapted to the hardships of the journey.
Enjoyable story
Perfect read for a summer day. A little repetitious but overall very enjoyable. I enjoyed the dreams of growing lavender.
Excellent Book
Great story with lots of history and information on Oregon Trail journeys in the 1800's. The courage described shows how hard it must have been to cross the country. It's also a great love story. And no bad language or explicit sex!!!
Totally wonderful book
Never boring start to finish. First time reading this author and intend reading many more. Story was fantastic, loved all characters. Hated the book to end but loved the ending.
Better than I expected
I fully expected to have problems keeping involved in the story after reading the reviews of some about all the needed editing. Well that didn't happen, sure there were a few mistakes but not nearly what was implied. Maybe if you are an English lit instructor. This was a good story of the trials of traveling the Oregon trail and that of a young woman pushed into a loveliness marriage to make the trip, then finding true love. I enjoyed it. No vulgar language or explicit sex.
Her Way Home
Thank you for this heartwarming and heartwrenching story about Corinne and all the obstacles she had to overcome in her journey to be with her father. I love the stories about the pioneers that battled their way across the plains to reach the Pacific coast. Without their hope, faith and trust in God their dreams would never come true. I look forward to reading more of your work.
Entertaining
I enjoyed reading the wagon train adventures heading to Oregon, the people and their difficulties. The main female character showed a lot of strength dealing with her husband, Andrew, who she married for connivence so she could get to Oregon. I would of liked an explanation at the end why Andrew was so mean to his wife and her friend Angela, what was his problem.
Great Story......
I've enjoyed reading this story, Finding Her Way, the story is a wonderful adventure romance. The author put together a wonderful story of the characters journey in a wagon train west.
Heart Triumphed Western Journey
This was a wonderfully written family's amazing story of remarkable adventures during the crossing of the western country. A tribute to the faithful family's that God had a hand through every day. Thanks to the author of remarkable adventures ,and gift for her Revelations during this period.
Sweet, clean, Christian romance on the Oregon Trail
A great history of the trials & tribulations of a wagon train on the Oregon Trail. How they blazed a trail across this great Country on foot, wagon & horseback has always overwhelmed me, especially since I've driven cross country twice. Driving through mountains, deserts & plains - I've complained my siblings were bugging me or I wasn't getting enough a/c, "Dad, when are we stopping to eat?" - these people, on occasion complained, but were determined to survive & they did. It was a sweet, clean, Christian romance with a good story & lots of traveling info. I enjoyed it thoroughly!
I love adventure on the Oregon trail!
I almost didn't give this book a chance based on the sharped-tongue critics. I'm so glad I did! It was very entertaining and I was delightfully surprised to read about different types of mis/fortunes than I have before along the trail. There were a few typos and other minor issues, but rarely and it didn't interfere at all with my enjoyment of the book.
Love the story wish it was longet
Love the details in the storyline would have gave it 5 stars if it told more of the story at the end.
Hard travel
This was a wonderful story. So much history and hardship yet many challenges were met and lives were lost. Each family had their troubles but worked together with others to survive.
Good read¡
I enjoyed this book beginning to end. I appreciate that there was bad language. I really do like happy endings.
Very nice story about traveling west
Very clean and interesting and somewhat informative. I have read more informative stories about traveling west . However this was good as the writer kept the reader hoping for some good to come from what was happening in the story. What I really liked was the interest in healing oils. I believe in them and the Native American way of healing. I'm happy that she was so different from her Aunt. A very lovely person with a sweet romance. Just don't sit on poison ivy like I did!!
You just have to put your trust in the end results.
This started out making me want to yell. I was so into the characters that I felt as if I was right there with them. The journey to the end is worth it
Delightful
Leah Banicki has woven a delightful story set in the wild trail days. I look forward to reading more by this author
Life to the extreme and fullest.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Traveled with them! Felt their sorrows and their losses! Great job!!!I guess I must have some of that old time spirit within my soul! Have such high regards for those peop!e who fought all to make new lives in a new land! God bless them! Thank you!
Totally loved this book!
Brilliant story of the hardships of travelling cross-country in the late 1800s. I am now looking forward to reading book 2! I believe this will become one of my favorite series.
Good
This was a good book overall. It took me a little while to get into the book. But, it was a inspiring, wholesome, and realistic love story.
Wonderful exciting story on the Frontier
I lives this exciting story that displayed the hardships and romance coming to fruition! It waa, sell written and kept my interest the whole time.
Great read
I liked this book for many reasons. First and foremost I liked that it was a clean read. Lots of romance and problems that had to be over come. Second I had a hard time putting it down for chores to be done. I hope others enjoy reading it as well.
Finding her way
Wonderful book. Enjoyed every character and story plot throughout the book. Life crossing the US to the west coast was very dangerous but the trials gave way to happiness.
You will enjoy this little romance
You will enjoy this little romance. The writer kept me interested with the handling of the handling of Indians, first of all, and I was very disappointed with her husband and kept hoping he would get the message that she was not a child. Also, the river crossings sounded different from what I've heard before -- liked that. I think you will like Leah Banicki's story.
Great read
Truly loved the story line. Looking forward to the next book. Really want to know what happened with Angela. What happened to the Swiss family?
Great Story
The story of wagon train life was quite interesting. The historical background was great. The characters were diverse and seemed real.
Terrible editing!
The storyline had potential . . . but the writing was, honestly, abysmal. At times it was difficult even to follow. I have no idea how anyone could say this is well-written. Usually if I don't love a book I just don't leave a review, but the atrocious editing made this very hard to read and sapped my enjoyment of the story. All I can say is please, PLEASE work with a publisher (or at least a good editor!) before asking people to pay money for this. Yes, there is potential in the story itself. But things like constant comma misuse, misspellings, incorrect words (e.g. using "fauna" when "flora" was intended), character's voices randomly changing, and the use of expressions that would have been foreign to the time period spoil it. I plan to never spend time on a book by this author again; the bad writing feels downright disrespectful. (But I wish her all the best and strongly urge her to find a good editor!)
Enjoyed the adventure!
I read this book today and enjoyed the story! I am wondering how one can enjoy a book if they are continuing to critique and criticize every sentence! I want to be entertained! This book does that for me! Faults can be overlooked as some have mentioned in their reviews, however I truly enjoyed the adventure!
Hope Ahead
Corinne was only 15 when her Father left for Oregon, she realized several years later she made a mistake not going with him. Through a series of events and hardships she made it to Oregon. I loved every minute of her journey! Get your copy today and travel along!
A good story
I found it interesting how mature a 17 year old can be. Corinne had many challenges which helped her to mature more quickly. I would have liked to understand what could make her husband so negative with her and others and yet so positive in his journal writings. Still, a very good read.
Courage and determination
I've read many books about wagon trains West. This one is consistent in the trials faced, the joys and the tragedies without dwelling on them too much. I'm very fond of the characters and look forward to more about people I met in this book.
Loved it!
Very much enjoyed all the vivid details of life on the trail. Great characters with much heart. Beautifully written story!!
I love this whole series
I have read and totally enjoyed books 1 through 6 and am waiting for "The Namesake" to come out. Yes, their are some editing problems but the story is well worth glossing over those. I like this author's writing. The story doesn't get bogged down with repeating the same thoughts over and over like some I've read. Also, I find the Bible verses and reliance on God refreshing and very wonderful. I would definitely recommend this whole series.
😅😮☺😕😀
Corrine left for the Oregon Territory married to a man she does not know. He father wrote her a letter introducing her to him. She needed to be married to join the wagon train. He made it plain that he did not plan to remain her husband after he trip is over. He did not approve of her friends and insisted she not see them. This is an wagon train story and many different characters are introduced . I loved this story!
A good read.
I love Pioneer stories. They take me to an earlier time in history that many of my ancestors witnessed first hand. I can't wait to read the whole series.
Story Line
I liked the story line. There were good points of history involving the Oregan Trail. I was not enamored by the style of writing.
Written very well.
I loved the way this was written, especially that it wasn't sex-filled as so many of this genre are. It showed the true grit of early settlers. Could have better editing but even that wasn't too bad. Can't wait to read #2!!!!
Great story!
This is the story of a large group of families leaving Boston in wagons going to Oregon City. It tells the many adventures and struggles they have on their trip.
Thourly
Thourly enjoy this book,Corrine was an amazing young lady and very intelligent and brave,I can't imagine how it would be on a wagon train!
Too much spelling errors.
The storyline and plot was soso.It was a book about Native Americans and Christians. But,this book was filled with spelling errors and foul words.I think it need one editor absolutely.
Awesome read!!
This was a very interesting read. It was God filled and a very good book. It shows how much we should put our trust in God and what he can do only if we trust him.
Excellent book
Well, I think an editor has gotten to this book since the 2012 and 2013 reviews, as I found few errors (I think I saw two instances of letters missing in words). The plot line is strong and fascinating. Corinne is an interesting character and to watch her go from girl to woman is great. Clive is my favorite character. This book really needs to be read as part of the series; I am in book 2 now and I see that Andrew's back story/issues are explained. Thoroughly enjoyable series and this book is a strong lead off.
Interesting western movement saga. The character of Corrine is well drawn and the reader can relate to her.
Although there is much adventure the story line is uneven. Most of the incidents occur in the first half of the journey. The rest of the trip feels like an add on. Tragedies and triumphs are just barely mentioned compared to the depth of the earlier events. The book could be longer or made into two volumes. How ever good wins and evil loses, a recipe for a good read.
Thanks to previous reviewers for the "heads up".
I am so glad that other reviewers warned explicitly about the serious need for editing. I read the book expecting the annoying mistakes, and found that I was able to overlook them completely, because I was expecting them. The story was a good one. Better than a lot of the books I find for my Kindle. Corrine was terrific. Despised Andrew. Loved Lucas. I stayed interested in the book..and didn't speed read the second half. I won't put this book into my "throwaway" file. Might decide to read it again....who knows?
Good book!
This was a really good book! I had a hard time putting it down. I would recommend it to anyone.
Great book!! Love Western romances especially enjoy reading them on my tablet!!!
This was a very good book, trials along the way but a happy ending. Especially enjoyed reading on my Kindle library. However I do wish the rest of the series was free as I would so enjoy the whole series. But why buy them when Kindle has so many FREE books to offer.
The Story Line was Enjoyable
I enjoyed the story line very much. I felt angry, sad, or annoyed along with the main character, Corrine. I wasn't sure how she would get out of her unhappy marriage. The ending was not very surprising though, actually. Once she was no longer married, the rest was predictable. There were several sentences in which the author did not display good grammar. Sometimes the sentences seemed incomplete and awkward. I don't regret reading the book. I read it all the way through because I wanted to see how it ended, even though I was fairly certain what would happen. I have, however, read much better books before. I'm not planning to read the sequel. Even though I have a few questions that are unanswered, I don't know that the author really has enough material to put in a second book and still make it interesting. I was also unimpressed with the grammar mistakes.
Great book!
I loved the book but does need a good editing. Worth the read. Looking forward to the next in series.
Excellent - keep writing!!
A wonderful heartwarming story from beginning to the end. Yes, there were a couple of slight errors yet this in NO WAY detracted from the story. The descriptions of life travelling by wagon train made for real day to day occurrences. Gosh to write a story with such emotion takes a real author. I cannot understand the put-down reviews except to say jealousy had to be the reason.
Sadly disappointing
What started as an interesting premise wandered away about a third of the way through. Several other reviews mentioned bad editing, and I agree. I also had problems with the holes in the author's research of this time period. The setting is 1848 and the pony express is mentioned as delivering mail to forts. NOT. The pony express existed from 1861 to 1862. The incongruity with how Andrew's actions and speech toward Corinne was portrayed and how he informed his parents about her was never resolved.
