With both pen and camera lens, Orion Carloto captures the dreamlike beauty of memory.

Film for Her is a story book of people, places, and memories captured on film. Through photographs, poetry, prose, and a short story, Orion Carloto invites readers to remember the forgotten and reach into the past, find comfort in the present, and make sense of the intangible future. Film photography isn’t just eye candy; it’s timeless and romantic—the ideal complement to Carloto’s writing. In Film for Her, much like a visual diary, word and image are intertwined in a book perfect for both gift and self-purchase.

A vapid collection of Tumblr poetry.

If you're into aesthetics, then this is a good book for the coffee table if that's something you're into. But the writing is terrible. Even the photos come across so...shallow? It's an Instagram feed come to life, which is fine if you're already expecting that but I suppose I was looking for something not as curated or polished for the sake of appearing trendy. Overall, this book is what happens when influencers get massive book deals. Pretty on the surface but not much happening narrative-wise. Orion has a great perception of beauty and clearly can tell a story, but she needs to do a few writing workshops to avoid some of the cliches that pop up regularly in this book.

Not written for someone like me

It was an ok read, but it wasn’t for me. I feel bad that she feels alone all the time, but I can’t help but be annoyed with the writer. She holds a lot of privilege to be able to get the education she received, be able to travel the way she does, and to have the friends she has. It just came off a bit spoiled. I come from a poverty stricken background so I couldn’t relate to her struggles at all, it seemed very tone deaf to people like me who couldn’t afford such luxuries at such an age. I wish I could tell her that being alone is fine and to enjoy yourself. But I did really enjoy the photography and thought the writing itself was good, I just didn’t enjoy the subject.

Beautiful! Wish I had received a book in better condition.

I LOVE Orion and I was so excited to get her second book! Beautifully written, BUT I expected a book in a good condition if I’m paying full price for a hard cover. It’s obvious that this book was scratched and someone attempted to cover the white scratch by going over it with a black pen or sharpie. I want to put it on display as a coffee table book, but every time I look at the drawn over scratch, it’s disappointing. :(

Queen

I’m in love with Orion and I’m in love with her book! Amazing quality as well. She’s a queen, I’ll be honest!

An improvement from Flux

Beautiful poems, photography and short stories. Orion reels you in within the first paragraph. The pictures included helped tell the stories — you can feel her emotions through every poem every Polaroid picture. Definitely an improvement from flux. I hope she keeps it up!

the way orion has the ability to blend words with images, chef kiss. all this magic in a beautifully bound fabric hardcover book. all around from content to aesthetic - this is a must have book for anyone's collection.

Here for the aesthetic

I can’t stop looking through this book. The written art and the visual art fit so beautifully hand in hand. Extremely aesthetic and Instagram worthy. She never seems to disappoint with her quality.

Best Book of 2020

Did she save 2020? Maybe not entirely, but Orion Carloto does it again with Film for Her. Having followed her for years on social media, this beautiful collection of old polaroids, family photos, scanned journal entries, and 35mm film is beautifully complimented by the words accompanying each page. I bought myself a copy, and I bought a couple copies as holiday gifts this year, too. You honestly can’t go wrong with anything by Orion. She’s so personable that we’re all calling her by her first name. Unreal work from a woman just getting started.

An Ode to Youth

Here you see a writer who has experienced growth, love, loss, and longing. The intimacy that Carloto provides through her poetry, prose, and short story in Film for Her creates a sacred space for her readers. Proud, is an understatement.

Quite Disappointed

Yeah, I was excited about this book. I bought it at barnes and noble for like 20 bucks and it ended up being a huge disappointment. The writing is largely vapid and the photos were generally uninspired. There were definitely a few gems here and there, but I just didnt think it was all worth it. I am sure someone could enjoy it, but to me it all was just a bit too classic cliche tumblr/Instagram poetry.

Amazing!!

I purchased and read this book a couple of months ago but I can’t stop thinking about it. The writing itself is amazing, the photography, and just the overall thought and effort that was put into this beautiful book. What a lovely read, cannot recommend enough.

best book

LOVE this book, very deep

Good quality

Well I don't like depressive literature but I bought for my cousin, she adores that kind literacy

Great quality and spectacular poems.

The texture and the quality of the book it’s just amazing. The poems and the way Orion narrates the whole book had leave me speechless. Great book!!

A book to fall in love with

Four pages deep and loving it. You can tell this one is really Carloto’s baby and she poured her whole soul into it. Really beautiful.

excited

i just got it and im so excited to read it!

love

such a beautiful book

Beautiful. I love the addition of film.

Provokes feelings of nostalgia for the home I’ve never lived in and the photographs I’ve never taken, yet somehow I have all these memories tied to them. There’s also elements of longing and desire, but you’re not quite sure of who or what. It could be a past lover or someone you have yet to meet.
