It will make you laugh and it will make you cry: Felix The Railway Cat is the extraordinary tale of a close-knit community and its amazing bond with a very special cat.

When Felix arrived at Yorkshire's Huddersfield Train Station as an eight-week-old kitten, no one knew just how important this little ball of fluff would become. Although she has a vital job to do as 'Senior Pest Controller', Felix is much more than just an employee of TransPennine Express. Felix changes lives in surprising ways.

She is always ready to leap into action and save the day: from bringing a boy with autism out of his shell to providing comfort to a runaway child shivering on the platform one night. So when tragedy hits the team at Huddersfield, it is only Felix who can pull them back together.

But a chance friendship with a commuter that she waits for her on the platform every morning finally gives Felix the recognition she deserves, catapulting her to international stardom . . .

Purrfectly Charming True Tale

I never would have run across this book if it had not be recommended on a UK Crime FB page. I was on crime overload, and, as a cat fancier and cat mom, I was immediately hooked. Felix's tale begins, when as part of a litter of 5, she becomes a railway cat at the Huddersfield station once she is old enough to leave the litter, at 8 weeks. As the story unfolds, Felix wins the hearts of employees, commuters, travelers, and (nearly) everyone she meets. Her antics, her empathy, her beauty, her day to day job as "pest-controller" are a joy to read. Be prepared to laugh, shake your head in wonder, and shed some tears. It is not a sad book, it is one of affirmation. It delivers hours of pure enjoyment. I have pre-ordered the further tale, Full Steam Ahead, and cannot wait for July to read it!

Heartwarming and lovely

After following Felix on Facebook for a couple years, I finally bought her first book and am so glad I did. My daughter and I have enjoyed reading it together. It has given me a better understanding and appreciation for Felix and her Huddersfield Station colleagues. The book tells how the station decided to get a station cat, how Felix became that cat, and how Felix has impacted her colleagues, railway customers, and fans around the world. I only wish there were more pictures of Felix in it. I heartily recommend this book. It is a great read and Felix is a great cat and colleague.

Great Take Control Working Cat Story

A real story about a real working cat at a train station in England. A very unforgettable story of a kitten growing up greeting passengers and becoming a much loved Icon for the Huddersfield Station. Book one of two.

Purr-fect heartwarming tail

I'm a cat owner. The biography of Felix the Railway Cat could only be written by a cat person. From the antics of kittenhood too queen make for a fun tale of a truly loved moggy. I didn't want too put the book down. It definitely shows how close the bonds of human and pet can become.

A Charming Gift for Cat lovers, Railway Fans and Anglophiles

This is such a fun book. It tells the story of a much loved station cat. This is a delightful read for cat lovers, railroad buffs, and anyone who enjoys a very British story. As I read, I became very involved in the lives of Felix and all the humans who keep things moving at her very busy station. I am so glad that I have come to know Felix and her friends. The reader can also follow Felix's posts on Facebook.

What a delightful true story!

I began following Felix on Facebook in June 2016 just as the world got to hear of her. What a treat to read of Felix's day to day exploits at Hudderfield Station and her community involvement. Sales of this book are a prostate cancer fundraiser! Buy a copy and be delighted!

A feel good story about a cat living at a railway station in Huddersfield in England

This is a wonderful story of a kitten who is adopted by the Huddersfield railway station. The book follows her adventures as she adjusts to living in the station amongst the people who work there and the railway patrons. The book will make you laugh and make you cry. If you love cats, this is definitely a book for you.

Love Felix

Love seeing Felix on FB and reading her book is a real treat...highly recommend

A Testament to the Value of Animals

Any cat lover will enjoy this book, but what is unique about this story is how Felix, just by being herself, positively affects people of all ages and walks of life, many of whom were not particularly fond of cats. The proceeds from sales of this book are donated to prostate cancer research.

Cat Takes Train

I happened upon the town accidentally. I found the book, read it on the way back to America. It was wonderful. A good cat story.

Great story

Might be worth going all the way there, just to meet this employee! Cutest station pest control offcier and general cat of all trades :)

Lovely read

Charming story about a very pretty cat. She is a star and the employees at the station and her stand-in on Twitter are to be commended.

Great read for children

Bought for my child. Great read for children. My child loved this book.

Felix Huddersfield Station Star!

Felix the Railway Cat is a refreshing and interesting read on the life of a simple cat. A cat who's life started out with a single family, but escalated into a family of millions of admirers thru Facebook, and Social Media. I truly can't wait to read her second book, which I understand is on the works between napping, and Pest Controlling.

Five Stars

This was a fun, light-hearted read.

I am in love with Felix and Huddersfield

I am in love with Felix. She is more than just an amazing cat, she is the glue that keeps the Huddersfield community together. With more than 100,000 likes on Facebook she is more popular than many celebrities. Having a cat at the station makes everyone happy - from workers to irritated commuters. Even those who originally doubt the value of a station cat are quickly won over by her personality, beauty and persistence. She is far more than her job description- Senior Pest Controller. Kate Moore’s book is all about relationships. It is tender, funny and quintessentially British. It isn't just Felix who has charm, but all of her friends and coworkers as well. I enjoyed how Moore takes readers from the very start, when she was just an idea through her kitten hood, training, and ultimately becoming a beloved fixture always willing to lend a paw or redirect queues when they pass through a sunny spot. I have to admit, my husband and I were eager to learn more about Huddersfield after reading about Felix. Felix the Railway cat is an amazing book, perfect for animal lovers of all ages. It is a wonderful pick me up on a stressful day. 5 / 5 I received a copy of Felix the Railway Cat from the publisher and Netgalley.com in exchange for an honest review. --Crittermom

What Fun!

As a avid animal lover whose first cat friend was named Felix, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this exciting tale of the adorable cat who has touched so many people’s lives just by being herself and doing her job!!

Five Stars

fun

Charming, funny and sad - it has it all.

This book made me laugh, and it made me cry - what more could you want from a book? Touching and heart-warming, I loved it. Felix as seen by her colleagues, friends and family. A little ray of sunshine in a bleak world. Read it, you'll be glad you did.

One of my favourites!

I have recently listened to and read ' Felix - The Railway Cat' by Kate Moore. The genre is non fiction. This is a true story about how a beautiful cat called Felix becomes a member of the Huddersfield Station Team. This story takes you on a journey upon why Felix arrived and how she changed so many people's lives. The book starts with a lovely introduction; including the history of railway cats. This story is written beautifully and I enjoyed every chapter. This book is full of laughter, love and joy. Kate writes clearly and concisely. There is no 'over showing', no 'over descriptions' or 'Info dumps'. Kate shows the powerful connections that can happen between feline and human. The author wonderfully shows how Felix supported those around her In many realistic and adorable ways. Kate also raises awareness of the alarming number of children who run away to find shelter at the railway. Kate uses the POV of the third person with the focus of Felix. In my opinion, only a few characters were multi dimensional such as Felix, Angie and Billie. I really felt like I knew each of these three characters and experienced their emotional journeys. However, I believe the rest of the main characters had a group identity with the main goal to care for Felix. I am slightly wary of some of the fact of this story. For example, the author states that Felix wags her tails when she is happy because she learnt that from dogs. I am not a vet, therefore I am unsure if that is possible. Yet, from my studying of felines I have never come across that before. The Audio by Kate Lee was Fantastic. She has such a clear and soothing voice. She expressed emotions and reactions perfectly! Triggers - Cancer, Run away children, Bereavement. In conclusion I truly enjoyed this book and it has now become one of my favourites. I am hoping to purchase a physical copy soon. Also, there are fantastic photos of Felix and the team in the back of the book. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. I hope the author is able to add audio to the next book in the series soon. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys non fiction and cats. Disclaimer: My Book Reviews are based on my own opinions and experiences only.

the amazing intelligence and empathy of cats

Having first discovered Felix on facebook, I was so excited when this book came out. It is such a heart warming tale, demonstrating, without doubt, the amazing intelligence and empathy of cats. As a past cat owner, I know only too well how each one has a distinct personality, and - I believe - a particular purpose to fulfill in this world. Felix - the Huddersfield Railway Cat, is no exception and her story is one that had to be told. 'Senior Pest Controller' is but one of her duties. Her ability to touch people's lives, and bring light, joy and compassion is, above all, her greatest strength. There are so many examples of how she has already done so: bringing people out of their shells, whether it be railway workers, or members of the public. In particular her devotion to Billy, and the way she helped two boys - one a runaway orphan, the other suffering from autism. Her rise to stardom has changed her not one bit: she is still the same aloof but also endearing creature as she was when she first arrived at the station as a kitten. But not unsurprisingly, she has so many friends among the station staff and commuters, as well as those from around the world. I hope, like many others, to be able to make a special trip to see her one day, at Huddersfield Station.

Felix the Railway Cat

I bought this book yesterday and i can't put it down, its absolutely brilliant, what adventures and mischief this cat has got up to, and as for the pigeon story i roared with laughter, its a great read for everyone. I'm not a cat lover, but Felix you made me laugh and cry both at the same time. Long may you "reign" over your kingdom.

A book to warm your heart, drive out the gloomy news, make you smile and yes, you might shed some tears too.

I have just finished reading this delightful story, written with great warmth and humour by Kate Moore, who has captured the essence of this fantastic feline and her warm hearted friends.' It's amazing the way Felix has captured the imagination of so many people across the world, people who start their day catching up with Felix' latest exploits, and who then set off to work with a smile on their face. Definitely an excellent Mothers Day present, that's not to say that Fathers wouldn't enjoy reading it too. It may not win the Nobel literary prize, but it will certainly win the 'feel good' prize from me and many more Felix afficionados.

Fur From the Madding Crowd

This is a charming story, & all royalties to go charity, so I feel slightly churlish for not being as impressed as everyone else. I very much enjoyed the first three quarters, then this true story becomes what I see as a worrying case of misguided animal exploitation. In the online footage of Felix, she looks stressed and anxious. The thought that people come in droves from as far away as Japan just to gawp at her & take photos is worrying. She's a lovely cat, very intelligent, living an unusual life, but cats don't like undue attention & I seriously think that making her a media star is bad for her and for the "madding crowd." A book about her is fine, but leave it at that.

The 'him' that turned out to be a 'her!'

A lovely book. I bought this as I enjoy stories of cats and I hadn't realised till I received it that the station in the book is Huddersfield. As I'm from Huddersfield, though now living elsewhere (again), I know the station and can picture it in my mind. I started to read the book straight away, and am enjoying it. There are obviously problems with having a cat in any railway station, but the staff were careful to 'train' the cat carefully, and eventually she was considered aware enough to be able to wander the station unaccompanied. One of the regular commuters, catching the 6 am train, began a Facebook page for the cat (I haven't seen it as I don't 'do' Facebook), and eventually achieved 60,000+ followers. After a couple of years the cat was featured on national TV and in national newspapers, and achieved some kind of fame! If you enjoy cat stories, then this book is to be recommended.

Wonderful whimsical read, superb

When I heard that this book was going to be released, I knew I had to have a copy. However to my chagrin I found that I could only purchase the Kindle version in the US from Amazon. I later discovered that I could simply go to Amazon.co.uk and purchase the hardbound copy which I gladly did. I must say to their credit the UK website made the purchase and shipping to a US customer very easy and straightforward. I have now read the book and think its a marvelous read, full of heartwarming anecdotes and glimpses into the early life and todays daily routine of not only the worlds most famous station cat but her surrounding cast of lovable characters. I highly recommend this book to all cat lovers, you wont regret purchasing it.

A sweet and gentle read for cat lovers

A sweet and gentle read, cat lovers will thoroughly enjoy it. Both Felix and the station staff come to life through the descriptions and there are tears and laughter throughout. The one slight issue I had was pedantic; in including the pros/cons as a supposed business argument for getting a station cat, cons were given as 'none' - and this is clearly not correct! But that aside, and that was probably just me, I enjoyed this book.

A book for cat lovers.

When I started I hadn't realised that this was a true story. It is a book for real cat lovers but it also demonstrates how the cat can develop a firm relationship even with those who initially show no interest in them. There are some amusing parts where there is true kitten behaviour is described and some red faces when the kitten visits the vet for the first time. Very entertaining and recommendable book.

Brilliant!

Assuming that (a) you like cats and (b) you like trains, this book is for you. It's very entertaining, and an easy read. What's more, all profits from the book go to support prostate cancer. A result all round, to my mind.

A purrfect book for cat lovers!

A wonderful book! Having gone to Huddersfield train station and met Felix and the very friendly staff twice ,I wanted to find out Felix's story for myself. Kate tells how Gavin persisted in his dream of having a cat at the railway station where he worked , how Felix was born, how she came to be there. The staff totally adore her and we find out how she comes to have thousands of followers on Facebook ( yes I am one!) This book is a must for any cat lover.

Me? How!

My grown-up son is called Felix. He likes cats and trains, as do his own offspring, and they are all stuck into this book! Not just because of the above, but because it’s a lovely read. I know this, because I read it before wrapping it up and hangong it from the Christmas tree! Highly recommended :) Meow!

Lovely little book

quite heartwarming, the cat is obviously in charge at Huddersfield, more power to her paw, loved the story, must have touched a lot of peoples hearts, she has just received a large cake for her birthday, so she is obviously doing something right. Good luck to all the staff at the station, she obviously keeps them in check. !

Highly recommend if you follow Felix on Facebook

Beautifully written. If you follow Felix on Facebook the book makes perfect sense and it all falls in to place. The staff are a lovely group and so caring and work as a great team together, in fact more like a family with each taking a family member role. You really invest yourself in the writing, almost like being there! (I wish!)

A heartwarming tale

I bought 2 copies of this book for presents. I read it when it first came out and wanted to read it again before the 2nd book launch this month. Its a truly lovely story.

Lovely book

Lovely, heartwarming read. Very easy to read. Follows the journey from Felix arriving at the station from being a tiny fluffball to present day. Including all her adventures! ( plus a chapter in which she spent Christmas with me!!!!) 😊😼😻 Also, lots and lots of money raised for prostate cancer!!

Felix, Chief Pest Controller.

What a really wonderful heart warming book, it was recommended to me by two different people, and I am glad I took their advice and read it. Wonderful book, wonderful read, and above all wonderful Queen Felix herself.

Delightful book worth the read

Delightful book I got it for my husband he says it took some getting to the time when they got Felix but to hear him chuckling and the odd tear I would say well worth it.

Having visited Huddersfield to visit friends I have had the privilege of seeing Felix in the fur! Didn't realise until much later that there were video's about her on facebook, and then discovered the book had come out too. Lots of lovely little stories in a larger book detailing her various escapades, a purrrfect read to cheer yourself up :-)

Bought for elderly relative who loved it!

I bought this as a gift for an elderly relative and she really enjoyed the story, so much so that she has asked me to find more books for her by this author. Very happy with the purchase!

Fascinating account. At first I thought it was fiction but then I realized it was about a real cat at Tuddenham station Yorkshire. Hope she's still with us and hasn't gone to the Rainbow Bridge like Bob the street cat.

A Beautiful True Story!!

This is a beautiful true story about a cat who has touched many lives at a train station in the UK. It’s well written and anyone who loves animals will truly love this book. I look forward to reading the sequel - Full Steam Ahead!! The book arrived early & was a great present to myself!!

A story to love

A really good book and I love that there are some pictures pictures of Felix inside (from the little kitten to the beautiful cat that she became)!

Felix the Railway Cat

Ho comprato questo libro perché parla della mia città e avevo già sentito parlare di questo gatto. E' stato un libro molto piacevole, a volte divertente e a volte triste, ma racconta bene una storia che continua ancora oggi.

Delightful story of Felix the Railway cat - how she became one and the adventures that followed.

Easy and charming read. Well told.

Feline loved.

Loved this book. You don't have to be a cat lover to enjoy it, but it does help... a little But not a lot... Felix, who arrives at the station as a kitten of 8 weeks pretty much takes charge of the station. Your first thoughts are, oh heck it seems a dangerous place for a cat, but actually I guess not. Cat's are smart. But this is not just about Felix, though the story rotates around the little Feline, but the others on the station as well. I used Huddersfield a lot but this revealed things I was not aware of (I must find this garden). You do get to care about the staff at the station, even, and especially the grumpy ones, Billy I am a fan. It may be that only those with Huddersfield/West Yorkshire/TPE links will get it fully, but this is more than that. This is about interaction with humans and Felines. Friendships and loves that can grow and survive. There is one story a regular who becomes friends with Felix and when goes on holiday, Felix sits in their spot and misses him. For me this is the greatest animal true story since the telling of Greyfriars Bobby and if you have not read that you should, a pet that is loved not by a family or owner, but by the community.

Be prepared to rush on Facebook and’ like’ one extra page after this read!

If you’re looking for a story that will cheer you up and plunge you in a heart-warming atmosphere, look no further. This is a superb story of how the arrival of a kitten at Huddersfield’s train station will change people’s outlook on their work or their preconceived ideas about cats. The book relates the arrival of Felix into the station as an 8 weeks old kitten, where we also learn how the name came about; why Felix, a female cat, wears a name destined for tomcats, and why it was kept that way. The author retraces all the steps of her growing at the station until she became the worldwide celebrity she is today. While the writing style is somewhat simple, it is largely compensated by the ‘cuteness’ factor . Furthermore, besides the main story we also discover a close-knit community among the staff, with its joys and its tears, how Felix is playing a huge role at the station and how she touches the heart of everyone in her own way. If after this read, you don't feel compelled to check Felix out on Facebook and ‘like’ her dedicated page, I'll eat my hat!

Really enjoyable read

Really enjoyed reading this book. Made interesting reading about Felix and how she came to be at the station but also about the staff at the station.

A++ to This Wonderful Book

This is one of the best books I've ever read. Felix's story is very moving and the book allows you to know all the people who have been and still are a part of her life. Since I'm a cat lover, this book is very precious to me. I was concerned about Felix walking around the train station possibly getting hit by a train. But now I understand more about how cautious she is. Very well written and I suggest everyone to read it!

Purrfect Read for a train journey!

What a heartwarming and charming book about a cat that lives at a railway station:) I found it very enjoyable with lots of stories about Felix, I also found it interesting when we were introduced to the daily workings of a busy train station. I don’t think I will think about rail travel the same way....
