The dark mage Geoff is back from the dead and creating chaos by devouring the hearts of people with magical abilities, giving him overwhelming power as his followers grow. And since I’m one of the strongest mages alive and am leading the resistance against him, he’s coming for me next. Oh, and it might have something to do with the fact that I was also the one who originally killed him. But you can’t blame me; the guy needed to die.
Havoc and I, along with our unlikely band of… (I don’t want to say heroes, I can’t give them that much credit) annoyances will stop at nothing to end the destruction. It doesn’t hurt that there’s a sexy demon by my side every step of the way. For the first time in three hundred years, I’m finally with the person meant for me, and I will do anything to keep from losing him.
Familiar Beginnings is a 63k word sequel to Happy Endings. Contains a powerful mage who just wants to be left in peace, a mysterious curly-haired troublemaker, gargoyles that are literally dumber than stone, a river trip that doesn’t feel at all like a vacation, and a “cat” with some unusual features and deadly claws.

I hope this isn't the last of these characters!
4.5* I only discovered Alice Winters last year, so I'm not one who has been waiting for this book for years, like some readers have- it's just been about 7 months for me! But as soon as I finished Happy Endings you can bet I was checking to see when book 2 was coming! And let me say, the wait was worth it. Familiar Beginnings was just as fun and silly, if not more so, than Happy Endings was and I loved every word. It was action packed and also a little stressful, as Miles and Havoc once again had to go up against their old master Geoff, to hopefully send him, once and for all, back to his final resting place. This go 'round they had some additions to their merry band of "heroes" to help them- and it's true, not all heroes where capes! One of my favorite things about this book was getting the peek into Miles and Havoc's past, I really enjoyed seeing how it all started for them. I love their relationship- how they tease each other and are always bantering, but you can totally feel the love. They had me swooning so hard, seeing how much they cared about each other. (A bonus was getting to see Miles first meeting with Iya, that made laugh out loud!) Alice Winters writes such entertaining books, I honestly can't get enough of her wit and humor. I don't know if this is the last book she'll be writing for these characters, but I hope it's not. I think there's a lot of trouble out there for Miles and Havoc, and Menace, to get into!
Extremely Unique and Funny Take on the Modern Paranormal Theme
In a genre that has exploded in recent years, it is delightful to come across this set of 2 books that adds humor to the normal sexuality, werewolves, vampires, demons, etc., in a fun way that seems so realistic and speaks to “every (gay) man”. Everyone will love it, but, as a gay man, I found so much that was relatable. Well, maybe not the supernatural creatures so much, but actually the character building and storyline are so well done, the supernatural aspects are just fun additions to the story which allows the characters and story to take center stage. The relationships and so many of the individual characters are just like people I know, or wish I did. It took me all of about 15 seconds to decide who in my life would be the vegetarian werewolf, and for the rest of the series my friend became said vegetarian wolf. Fun, quick, easy to read, and damn hard to put down, yet absolutely not written like a YA book. Strongly recommend!
Titles of this two book set do not correspond to which book is the first and which is the second.
This is a two book series, Familiar Beginnings and Happy Endings. So, after I purchased both books, I read three quarters of Familiar Beginnings, before I started to question whether I got the order of the books wrong, as there were too many references in the story, alluding to past happenings with several of the characters. I mean, anyone would conclude that a two book series, with one book titled Familiar Beginnings and another titled Happy Endings, that the book with Beginnings in the title would be the first book, and the book with Endings in the title would be the second book, right? Unfortunately, wrong! There was NO mention on the front cover of which book was the first book and which book was the second. Only after careful examination of the books did I find that there was a 1 on the binding of Happy Endings, and a 2 on the binding of Familiar Beginnings. So, with only a fourth of Familiar Beginnings left to read, I put the book down, and read Happy Endings, and then proceeded to read the end of Familiar Beginnings, to end the 2 book series. While I still enjoyed the story, it was upsetting that the book titles did not correspond with which book was the first and second of the series, or, that at the very least, it wasn't made clear on the actual cover of the books themselves!
Loved it
I love the mix of sarcastic humour, action and romance that are in Alice Winters' books. There were moments that I was laughing out loud at the ridiculousness of a situation and I loved it. The action is great and I was at the edge of my seat. I love Miles and Havoc and all their crazy friends. I like that Miles is such a powerful mage, but still vulnerable at times and can be seriously hurt. No one should be all powerful. Geoff is a great, dangerous, threatening nemesis, though saying that the final battle is a bit brief for me. With the big bad gone, what's going happen next? I really hope that there will be more to this series. I would love to see what crazy stuff Miles and Havoc get themselves into.
Marvellous
I love all the books that I have read by this, but I think this is my favourite series so far. Miles and Havoc are really couple goals, after being bound to each other for hundreds of years they know each other really well. Havoc might be this scary asset demon who can make people wet themselves with just a look., but with Miles he's becoming a big softie. And the line "Bind me to you before I force you to" is just swoony. I love everyone on Miles and Havocs team and Miles collection of evil things that connects with him is hilarious . But not as hilarious as the first time Miles met Iya.
Mage and Demon and a cat?
So Geoff is back. Penetrators assemble! Hahaha this book like the first is a hysterical blend of action, magic, suspense, hilariousness, and steamy moments. Havoc even gets mushy a few times. Menace the cat is a great addition to the team. Yeah Alice Winters characters crack me up. Her books make me happy :)
Great Book #2- creative case of characters
Loved to see the cast of characters return. I think Iya is my fav for some weird reason. Would love to see more stories in this world.
100%enjoyment
Is it the best book out there?no. Is it awesomely entairtaining amuisng and in a round about way teaching you important lessons about freedom, friends, fighting for what is right and love?heck yes. I laughed and cringed and loved reading this book.
Great ride just as the first!
I sure hope the author continues this series with Miles and Havoc. I absolutely love the group of paranormal assembled to help him. A riot from beginning to end. Be sure to read the first book before beginning this one.

Characters were fantastic and sooo funny!! Writing was top notch, and o loved the mystery of the story, and how it was interwoven with the romance and the memories.

Characters were fantastic and sooo funny!! Writing was top notch, and o loved the mystery of the story, and how it was interwoven with the romance and the memories.
Good fantasy with humor
Interesting background and funny vignettes of past experiences remembered. Odd that in M/M love story the worst dialogue was when the main characters tried sweet talk. Menance and other secondary characters fun too.
A great read!
This is an awesome book. I enjoyed more of Miles and Havok. This book has romance and action in it. But best of all, the characters are authentic!
So much fun
Love this series so much. Two of my all time favorite characters. As usual this has all of Alice Winters brilliance of humor, action, and romance. So much fun and a great way to relax
Wondeful
I loved this story and wish there was more. Did he ever put his immorality spell back on? Thank you
Awesome!
I loved the first book and the second one doesn’t disappoint! I love the main characters dynamic and the crazy shenanigans they get up to. This book is filled with a ridiculous and fantastic cast of characters! It is such an enjoyable story!
Pure magic!
This was such a delight to read. I spent most of the time cackling like a loon! I love the authors humor and can't wait to read more by them!
Hysterical
Read both books in two days. Fun plot, hilarious dialogue, and great sexy times. Well worth it. I hope there will be a third book to this series.
Loved!
I love the characters in this series because you never know what they are going to do or say next!
Brilliantly Written
I absolutely loved this book, Miles and Havoc have returned, this is book 2, if you have not read Happy Endings (Demon Magic) please do as this is the conclusion of their story. The dialogue will keep you smiling, the action will have you turning the pages, the magic the supporting characters bring will have you cheering on everyone. We are introduced to some new characters that I fell in love with!! The antics of these loveable characters gearing up to battle Geoff, in a Good vs. Evil war was laid out in a fun and zany way I found myself laughing out loud while rooting for the destruction of Geoff. For me the best part of this book was how Miles and Havoc looked back at the memories they shared, it was insightful and just heartwarming to see how they started to lean on each other and how their love grew over the years. I love this magical and mystic world and hope to maybe get some more adventures with this loveable gang.
Cats, Demons and lots of Magic!
I loved it. Alice Winters is rapidly becoming an auto buy for me. I really loved Miles and Havoc from Happy Endings but desperately wanted to see what happened with Geoff. Familiar Beginnings definitely did not disappoint. The humor I have come to associate with Alice Winters was a part of almost every scene, even the fight scenes making the entire book just a delight to read. My favorite part was Miles unknown ace up his sleeve in the last fight - it was just perfect! The world was very creative and original and I hope we will see more books with these wonderfully unique characters.
Miles & Havoc forever
Miles and Havoc are back! This book follows are dynamic duo as they try to stop Miles and Havoc's old master. We get to see familiar faces as well as being introduced to new ones. Miles and Havoc's relationship is stronger than ever, even with the arrival of the "cat" that tries to wedge itself in their lives. Like all Alice's books this one is filled with witty dialogue and great action sequences. You will find yourself laughing one minute and feeling kinda down the next. Which is great and keeps you on your toes. Definitely a book not to be missed.
Is it over? I hope not!
Miles and Havoc are large and in charge of their district, but should they be? Havoc still insists that dragons are real, much to Miles' dismay. Geoff is determined to rule as the mightiest mage to ever walk the earth and Miles, unfortunately, is still under his control because of the binding placed upon his magic. They have to find a way to remove them, but there is only one way to do that-Mile's death. Which Havoc strongly objects to. Luckily, they meet a dark spirit, a strange boy, a skeleton horse, and a cat that's definitely NOT a cat that can help them along the way. And of course, Iya is there to provide everyone laughs with his nakedness and loveable personality. I CAN'T WAIT for Iya's story. You definitely won't regret reading this sequel. While there is enough information that you don't have to read the first book to understand what is going on, the first book is funny, and irreverent and still amazing. You won't regret picking up both.
Every time I think she can't get better, Winters proves me wrong!
Seriously, I didn't think that Alice Winters could get any better, but I have fallen in love with Miles and Havoc. Add in the menagerie of characters they have helping them out, and it turns a great story into a fantastic one! This story continues where book one left off, with our heroes needing to fight off an old nemesis, with some danger, fighting, fun, and sex along the way. There's a new addition to the team, a cat, and Menace is hilarious. I love this part: "The cat, on the other hand, could be a disaster. He meows. 'Yeah, I'm thinking about you.' He lifts up his paw and extends one claw. The middle one." This is just one of the many humorous incidents that can be found throughout the story. If you have read Winters before, you know that there will be her trademark puns and funnies to carry you through the angst. I especially loved to see the growth of Miles' and Havoc's relationship. Who ever thought a demon could be so loving!
All great things come to those who wait...
I was hoping that Ms. Winters would continue the story of Havoc and Miles and this sequel didn't disappoint. As always, the humor and pithy back and forth was very entertaining and added a lightness to, at times, dark moments. It was good to get the history between M&H to fully understand why they are so close. In other books, sometimes the reader is expected to take it as a given that "soul mates" are magically meant to be together. I liked the fact that Alice gave her characters a choice, once forged through years of suffering and redemption. Another great installment !!
Fun and entertaining
Wow! I can't believe it took that long for this sequel to be released. Thank goodness I only found out about Book 1 just days ago and able to read it back to back. Love, love, love the shenanigans between Miles, the powerful yet understated mage and his crazy and incorrigible demon, Havoc. They are now all coupled up and so in love with each other, yet they still bicker like always. Fun times. Even with the homicidal and back from the death Geoff didn't deter my enjoyment. My favorite part is always when Miles and Havoc shared a memories of their past. I could have read an entire prequel about them together when Miles was much younger. A shout out to their magical group of friends that are pretty amazing too.
An hilarious and unique group of characters
So worth the wait! Miles and Havoc are even more hilarious than in book 1, and now that they're together, there is even more of a delightful mix of romance, banter, and some pretty intense protectiveness. I adore this couple, and the side characters are outstanding as always. There are some awesome new additions to the gang in this book, from a terrifyingly abnormal cat, to an adorably apologetic new friend who has no idea about his own powers. The world building and plot continues to be outstanding and well-paced, and the writing just had me in constant laughter. I really, really hope this is not the last we see of these characters! Although, if it is, the ending is pretty well-tied up and perfect.
Magic
Miles and Havoc! I just love these two. They have to pair up with their friends for a battle for their lives. Will they defeat Geoff? And after hundreds of years together, all the pain and suffering, will these two finally get to have their happily ever after. I don’t often read books about magic, but I will reread this series several times. It’s new and refreshing.
Great series conclusion!
I loved this book. It was quite short for an Alice Winters book, like barely half the usual size, but I think it was paced and detailed just right and didn't need more than it had. I also think it had just the right balance of humor, seriousness, and action to keep the reader interested. The danger with a writing style like this one is that the humor can come across as ridiculous, silly, inappropriate, or over the top, but the tone of this book was pitched just right and left me feeling satisfied all the way through instead of annoyed or impatient as has sometimes happened in the past with comedic books. This book does seem to conclude Miles and Havoc's story, and can't be read as a standalone. I would love to read more stories from this world though, and I think you will too.
So worth the wait!
Happy Endings was the first book of Alice Winters that I read, where I fell in love with Miles and Havoc then. Now, I want to have them live with me :) The story continues from the first - they are trying to stop Miles old master (Geoff) from becoming an evil, all powerful mage. There are so many elements to the story - humour, relationship issues, alliances, suspense and a few surprises - all making this one great sequel! Loved it so much!
So much wonderful chaos!!!
Finally getting the conclusion to Miles and Havoc's story. Oh my gosh it was amazingly hilarious and just what was needed right now. This rag tag bunch of humans and magical creatures come together to fight off evil and it's funny and sweet and wonderful at times. Author Alice Winters just has an epic way of writing humor and this book was just another fantastic example!!!
I want Menace!
I was curious to see how the Geoff story was going to end, but the title initially threw me off. I figured this was the end of the chapter, right? Well, in this book, Miles and Havoc do a lot of reminiscing over the past as the prepare to take on the big bad. It was neat to see how their relationship kinda developed. We get a chance to see that bond form. Also, we meet Menace and he basically made the book. Lol when he smiled and disappeared in the hotel, causing everyone to run. That seriously cracked me up. Omg Etienne! I need his story! I love him and desperately want to know more about the demon/creature/whatevs in his head.
So good!
I’m such a huge fan of Alices books, and this one may have just made it to the top of my favorites. I love Miles and Havoc so much and I just love how perfect they are for each other. I’m surprised at how much I love all the secondary characters too. I usually don’t care a whole lot about the other characters but I loved all of them. The ending was a surprise to me, and I love that it wasn’t predictable. This book is truly fantastic all around.
Funny, violent, and occasionally sexy
Shockingly, this is not the middle book of a trilogy. Geoff is more powerful and evil than ever, wreaking havoc throughout the district. Miles has to take care of the problem now. He has some disadvantages, but with the help of a couple new friends, they just might be able to do it The new friends are awesome. Miles and Havoc are still happy together and sexy and funny. Highly recommended.
Mythic Magical Mayhem
Death and destruction at the beginning with very colorful sexiness. Lots of awkward and weird. Magic everywhere, but sometimes not enough and just when you think that's it, more magic, more weird and a whole lot of wonderful. Alice Winters has a knack for intrigue, awkward, sublime weird and the best characters you really want to meet, but maybe not in real life because, well, feathers...or fur...or scales...and all that nakedness would be hard to explain.
Great Follow Up
I fully enjoyed this ridiculous book, loads of laughs, crazy antics, action and love. I can't wait till it comes out on audio. The writing is as always hilarious and unique. Alice always knows the exact right amount of ridiculous antics to make a book hilarious but not so much its stupid. I haven't read a book by her that wasn't great, although her comedies are my favorites by far.
Menace is so cute!!
Paranormal single point of view Needs to be read after Happy Endings Miles, Havoc, and the gang continue the battle against Geoff. More allies and villains appear amidst lots of snark and evil attitudes. Epilogue did not work for me.
Love, laughter, magic, and the truest friends you'll ever meet. You deserve this!
That was so wonderful! What a joy, from start to finish, just like all of Alice's books. During this pandemic, I needed this escape even more than I normally do, and now I feel strong enough for whatever tomorrow brings. I won't tell you the story line, only that it's full of love, laughter, and the magic that only comes from the truest friends. You'll want to read this book. I promise.
Great characters
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All the previous quirky characters return in this story and more get added. I love Menace. Great character. Another fun read from Alice's imagination. Keep em coming.
Absolutely loved this series!
All the talk of COVID in the world, all the masks, all the testing, all the closed businesses, all the remote learning in school districts, etc etc...I needed something to keep me from going totally insane. This series was the answer. I loved it and pray to the book publishers in the sky that there will be many, many more to follow. Ms. Winters is absolutely amazing!!!
The sequel that’s kind of a prequel
In this sequel to Happy Endings we get, through a lot of flashbacks, the background on Miles and Havoc and how their relationship began and grew. All of this is in the context of fighting Geoff who has somehow come back from the dead. The assorted secondary characters are amusing and I really loved Menace, especially at the end. It’s a fun book and a quick read.
Dragons are n...real
Miles and his crew of misfits are back at it again. They are on the search for Geoff the evil mage who is consuming magical hearts to build up his power. Miles beat him once before but can he do it again? This was another solid read. My favorite parts were the growing love between Havoc and Miles. It really shines bright in this one.
Worth the wait
Happy Endings was my first Alice Winters book. I was instantly in love. I have read everything I could get my hands on of hers since and I am never disappointed. I have been anxiously waiting for this book. I don’t think I could ever get enough of Miles, Havoc, and their menagerie of friends. This book just adds to the wonderful insanity!
And another one!!!!
So I started this book at 9pm last night and finished at 630 this evening. Some author can not carry the same momentum from the first book to the second but Ms. Winters has done it to perfection!!!! I really love her style of writing, I was first introduced to this author when I read "Th humans guide to staying slice despite last mistakes" . I'm a fan for life!
Awesome Books
Highly recommend. The world building was excellent and the main characters were genuinely funny and likable. Sexy and entertaining- with great fantasy elements thrown in. Wish there was another book in the series - but by the same token, the 2-book series comes to a satisfying end (as opposed to those 20 book series that just beat a dead horse for dollars).
A funny and light-hearted read
This is a new to me author. The characters are funny. I laughed out loud multiple times. The sense of humor is juvenile, but amusing. I generally dislike TJ Klune’s books because his characters are juvenile to the point that I hate them. These characters I adored. If you’re looking for a creative, amusing read, you’ll like this book.
Even better the second time...
I had read this book before, and generally tend to not read anything a second time, but I just needed to read this again to pick up the little details. The river of dead and the red cat, the horse and the fighting trees, each explained so exciting and well. Good books tell good stories. Great ones suck you into the story.
Miles, Havoc and Menace are hilarious and great
What happens when you throw in hell-spitting kitty, a demon and mage? Hilarious fun times and more adventures as Miles, Havoc, and their gang battle the evil Geoff. There was a surprise twist of events that only Alice Winters could pull off in the book but it was definitely a good twist. I hope we can read more about Etienne and Leo and how they met :)
Miles and Havoc, oh my
I loved this book so much. Meeting up with all the wonderful characters from the first book was such a treat. Anyone who likes snark needs to meet Miles and Havoc. But you must read Happy Endings first so you understand the plot in this book. It's really all one book to me. I would really like a third book. Hints
They live for mayhem
Our characters are funny and loyal, with great newcomers. Some part are confusing because you don't know what is going on when you seeing only one perception. You don't see it in a big picture, its like missing pieces which again is confusing and frustrating. I do love Menace, he is an awesome and terrifying cat
Love it
I laughed so hard as soon as I started reading this I mean what did I expect for Alice Winters. I'm surprised I hadn't awaken anyone up when I started reading it because it was so early in the morning. I could not put it down once I started. I'm still waiting for Sam to have at least a short story about him and his Minotaur.
Havoc and Miles!!!
I was so thrilled when I found out Miles and Havoc were getting a second book! I love the snippets throughout of their past, how the met, how they survived together. I beyond enjoyed familiar beginnings and hope we have more from these characters to come in the future! I mean, there are new people, new weirdo "pets". I honestly just need more from this whole group.
I adore Havoc and Miles
Alice Winters’ quirky characters are so lovable and fun and I always enjoy the wild dialogues and casts of misfits. Miles and Havoc are so snarky and so sweet with each other that I just cant help but smile. This is an awesome sequel to the first and I just adore the characters and the story.
A must-read.
I am sorry to see this story end. I don't see any indication they will be another book in the series. I wish there were. I have grown very fond of the characters. They are endearing. Ditto I have enjoyed reading other Alice Winters books. She is one of my favorite authors.
Gotta Love A Demon
God there aren't enough words for how much I adore Havoc and Miles. Winters is such an amazing writer that half the time you're engrossed in her words and the rest of the time you're trying to not fall off the couch/bed/chair you're sitting on. Brava and thank you for the laughter this week, it was greatly appreciated!
Vampires, Demons, Mages... and Dragons?? Oh my
In the sequel to Happy Endings we find the main characters have returned, and some new ones too. I really enjoyed reading this book. Alice Winters never seems to fail in writing so much humor in to what could have been much darker and scarier topics.
Just read this book!
Mikes and havoc are at it once again. Love these two so much the secondary characters are so great also. Menace is such a sweet kitty too! Laughed out loud many times possibly a few unladylike snorts. It was that funny. Get it, read it, you won’t regret it
Love Havoc and Menace
I fell for Miles and Havoc in Happy Endings. I love them even more now. Add in an unusual cat named Menace and they become a weird and dysfunctionally happy family. I love all the side characters too and I hope we see more of them all!
Rushed writing
I feel like there was a lit that was kind of rushed through in this one. It just sort of felt like the characters were missing depth. The characters were a little too silly for my taste. That all said, I did love the cat.
So good
Finally! I’ve been dying for more Miles and Havoc. I loved seeing their relationship strengthen. Even though Havoc struggled with insecurity at some point, their bond is undeniable!! This book is the perfect blend of snarky humor, action and love.
I want more
I really enjoyed these two books. The banter between the characters hit the right note and the range of magical creatures and demons made things interesting. Will look for more from this author.
Great
Just as much action and comedy as the last one. The MCS and supporting characters will keep you laughing. Need an easy fun read then this 2 book series is for you.
An extremely awesome read
This was such an amazingly wonderful story. I laughed so much and that people were looking at me funny. Love this author and her awesomely crazy and wonderful characters.
What a delightful find!
This is for both books - I just finished the Demon Magic series by Alice Winters. Great characters, snarky humor, sex-crazed demons, romance, and action.
Not as good as the first
It kept diverting into more and more juvenile horny teen banter, keeping the story from unfolding. Unfortunately, I found myself losing interest as a result.
😃 FUN READ!!
😃 MAGIC ✨ FAMILIAR BEGINNINGS is the second book in Alice Winters’s DEMON MAGIC series. Read Book 1 and then read Book 2. Enjoy!
Demons to love
An amazing book! I’ve never loved a demon so much. And there was a dragon.
Another great addition...hope it's not the end
Loved the latest addition to this laugh out loud series...on the midst of everything going on this was a welcomed distraction...hopefully not the end to this series. Team Miles and Havoc
Fun!!
Great paranormal. Perfect tie up of the loose ends from the first book. Plenty of humor and action. Super fun read!!
Great read!
More expanded review to follow-up With out a doubt, this has been the best series (2 books) I have read in quite some time!!
More Miles and Havoc!
How can you not want more miles and Havoc?! They’re just the best mage/demon snarky love fest ever! Definitely read after Happy Endings.
Lovely Ending
This was a wonderful ending to their story. If never another book is written for them, then I will be satisfying with their story being complete.
So cool
This book was as funny as the last one. I hope Sam gets a book next. Great job to the author
An excellent 2nd book!
Miles and Havoc needed this story to happen. I am hoping there will be more in this series. So many of the behave more to tell, I think.
LOVED IT!!!
I loved everything about this book and would give it more than 5 stars if I could. I really hope we get to see more of Miles and Havoc in the future. I love when a book can make me laugh out loud.
Better then the first
I liked this one more although aspects of their relationship annoy me. But it still was interesting and worth reading
Loved it!!!!

Funny and fun and sexy
This is a great series! I love how funny and quirky the characters are. Lets face it a sarcastic mage and a chocolate loving demonic love interest, what could be better.
I loved this so much
The first book was awesome but this book was awesome-er? This was great. I'm just going go back to Happy Endings right now! To start this story over again. No way I am prepared to not be inside this world Alice Created!

Delightful Series
So,etc,es you read something and you can’t imagine how you lived your whole life up to this point without having read this something. The humor, the adventure, the sweet sexiness... oh my!
Wonderful fantasy land of witty characters
I adore the characters, quick plot, twists, fantasy, and vivid picture painted on this world where we live side by side with witches and other fantasy folk and don't really have an awareness of there presence. Would love to read more from this series.
Loved it
Loved it it was full of action and mystery and of course sex scenes. Can’t wait to read more. Millir

Oh My gods they need to make these books into a movie or tv series! I have never giggled so much reading a book, nor loved the characters so much! We need lots more!!

Laugh out loud
Utter entertainment. Alice Winters always has me laughing. Very much enjoyed this one. If hot fellas finding love and taking a break from the tedium of real life are your pleasure you will enjoy this quick read.
Characters our great.
I enjoyed the comical interactions with the characters. I think Alice Winters is one of my new favorite authors. Hope she has a sequel.
Great read
Really enjoyed the book. It had action and humor. Just as good as the first book. Would enjoy a 3 rd one.
Funny and heartwarming
I rarely write a review but I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of this book. I laughed so much loved the addition of characters as well as the adventure great book

I need this series to continue. I love them and I hope this one get made into an audiobook too!
A Hilarious Adventure
This is the second book on Miles and Havic’s story and it’s another funny, passionate, adventure. From start to finish, I was laughing at Miles and Havoc’s antics but also adding in their friends and few new faces, it just added to the hilarity. Don’t get me wrong though, cause there are still some passionate moments between our men, and Havoc shows in so many ways how much Miles means to him, it’s a wonderfully written story and Alice does an amazing job. A definite must read but start from Happy Endings, otherwise you’re missing out.
I love Miles & Havoc
Okay so I did love it. The only problem I had with the book was the final battle, it felt a little anticlimactic. I wanted a bigger show down, yes I know you are going to say I'm nuts because it was a great battle, but it just appeared to have started & ended way too quickly. I was happy to see that Miles & Havoc are strong in their relationship, even though at times Havoc has some insecurities. When something happened that had to happen and the contract was broken, Havoc immediately wanted it back on. As with all the books that I have read from Ms. Winters, she does an amazing job of throwing in just the right amount of humor/snark, danger and love always concurs all. I love all the secondary characters and absolutely loved Menace! And what Menace really is was awesome. It is really hard to write this review and gush all over everything I loved about it as it would be giving away spoilers and I really don't want to do that. So stop reading this review and pick up the book, and if you haven't read book 1, what are you waiting for? Get reading! I cannot recommend Ms. Winters' books highly enough. ARC provided by the Author in exchange for an honest review.
Gah! The sweetness and ridiculous is too much. I love it. 4.5 stars.
Knowing the crazy from the past isn't done with either Havoc or Miles, I was sure we were in for something rather dark before everything got solved. That wasn't the case and I think the overall situation was incredibly well done. Not only do we get some amazing surprises, but we finally get to see some phenomenal power, the power we saw hints of throughout Happy Endings. Miles has a great head on his shoulders and I've always loved that he knew to think through a problem and not just rely on blasting who or whatever was in his way. That he also finally came to terms with his guilt and what to do with it was fantastic because it showed an evolution within him that was necessary for him to truly accept the happiness he deserved. Havoc's heart was actually a surprise. Not like I couldn't believe it, but a shock in how fervent his feelings were. The way Miles' memories were shared a lot more in this continuation gave us a lot more depth to their interactions and how deep Havoc's distrust went, that even though he knew something was different about Miles, it's difficult to separate centuries of betrayal and abuse. Watching them truly share their hearts and minds was a testament to how far they've come together. His adamant request to Miles was a bit of a surprise, but one of the most touching moments. We don't get a lot of touchy-feely confessions from the taciturn and flirty demon so in that moment we get to see exactly his level of trust, commitment, and love for Miles. Seeing all the pieces come together, having various confrontations and battles of the magical type, and the culmination of it all into one vanquishing moment brought everything together in a satisfactory way. I think what I was most moved by was the softness. Things really could have gotten crazy and gory with the story's set up but instead we were built on a foundation of feelings, of determination, of bonds. The snark was softer, the friendships more real, the good more powerful. This story didn't feel like so many others of this author's work and that is absolutely not a negative in any way for me. I adored the MC's and wish there were more of them. I'd happily dive back into their world right now.
Familiar Beginnings
My face lit up when seeing this book out, talk about instant click. I knew Alice Winter would provide humor and distraction: perfect! So Havoc and Miles are back, deeper in annoying each other, arguing over the littlest thing, but it's all affection from a centuries long relationship. So competitive, so evil. Main characters do die in this one. If that's a trigger warning, there you go. The question is if they stay dead, because you know, it's classic cartoon comedy when they keep bouncing back. 'Why don't you stay dead?' became the punch line that keeps on giving. Like the jelly of the month club. A lot of the humor is subtle, you have to sink into it, stop and think. Like those 'Lesser demons that give us a bad name,' when Havoc acts just like them. Pot. Kettle. And the most unlikely band of heroes. Situations so over the top, the eyerolls bug out and gasp. Actually I wouldn't mind a third story on Havoc and the demon world from his point of view. Are demons created / born or do they evolve and become 'smarter?' How do they progress in the underworld? Another good book. Read on Kindle Unlimited. - Dan's Wife Post note: Havoc and Miles remind me of G.A. Aiken's Briec and Talaith in 'About a Dragon.' An annoying competitive couple that try to outclass each other in the arguing, but secretly love it. If you love this book, you'll love G. A. Aiken's humor and her crazy characters..

Loved
This one was slightly better than the first book. As always, AW knocks it out of the park with fun and snarky, especially between the main MC's. A lot happens in this book as they face off to defeat the dark mage Geoff. There are two secondary characters that I would love to have their own little story somewhere. I will say that the cat they "adopt"... well, it just showed up and never left, was a surprise that I didn't see coming. I loved that. Is this the end of the series? I really don't know but I hope not.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I feel like I've waited for this book forever! Again, Alice nails it. The book pulls you in from the beginning and keeps you wanting more. So many amazing characters from the first book and introduced in this one. Familiar Beginnings is a wonderfully fun book.
Absolutely awesome
The duo make this a first class read. The first book sets the stage for you to fall in love with the main character and his demon lover. The second book gives depth to the relationship and fills in the detail of the hundreds of years before the first book. I can’t wait to read further adventures of this duo in the decades or centuries to come,
Familiar Beginnings by Alice Winters
Rating: 3.5 stars I liked this one a bit better than I did the first one in the series. I think it’s because Miles and Havok’s relationship has already been established. I just wish the author would elaborate a little bit more on world building. Also it annoys me a bit when the author leaves out small details.
A long time coming
I have waited years for this sequel to Happy Endings! I thought Winters would leave that story hanging. Havoc and Miles are hilarious again and I thought the plot and pace were excellent. It was so much fun to reconnect with all of these quirky and weird characters. The copy was pristine. And the ending was epic!
Best part of my week!
This rag tag group of supernaturals has made my isolated in the house self so happy! I really needed the love, laughter, camaraderie, and stomping of Geoff. All of the flash backs to the things that make Havoc and Miles the perfect duo were awesome.
I laughed till I peed my pants
this book is abso!surely fantastic. I loved it. Couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of her books.
GAAAAAHHHH
Gaaaaaahhhhhh
Binding love & cats
“The relationship between a demon and a mage is [indeed] a beautiful thing.” It’s also wonderfully messy, funny, brilliant and spectacular. Oh the shenanigans that Havoc and Miles get up to, snicker. I kinda wish I could peek inside Havoc’s mind but then I think if I’m gonna wish for something there are so many other things I’d rather do with him. “As long as you’re beside me, this is the only path I want to be on.” I adore their connection, snarky love for each other and their love of art. I really, really love how much they appreciate art, so hot. Miles meets the most interesting...people? He sure knows how to attract a unique set of friends and they have the most riveting and entertaining conversations. Who knew that a menace could have such a sassy and defiant attitude but I kinda want a cuddle. So many laughs throughout this book, especially because of Miles’s first summoning; talk about a memory that really hits you. I love this unforgettable cast of characters. They pull at my heartstrings as much as they make me smile. A fantastic, extraordinary adventure that if you’re like me will make you fall in love with demons and magic.
Absolutely LOVED this book!!
I love the fun and silly dialogue between the 2 main characters. The story was spectacular. I stayed up all night to finish the book. Totally recommend reading this book and the first book if the series.
Love it!
I absolutely love Miles and Havoc! This is such an amazing addition and I love it so much. Alice Winters just has away that makes me love these stories and I love that I am always laughing when I am reading. I just love being pulled into this fun read.
WINNER! WINNER!
Amazing! The follow up to Happy Endings, Familiar Beginnings is perfection. Getting to have more Havoc and Miles is the best thing ever. As you can probably tell I am a huge Alice Winters fan. She never fails in giving her readers a story that will grab your heart and your funny bone, sometimes at the same time. Add in the merry group of friends Havoc and Miles have gathered around them and you won't be able to resist this story. I loved everything about it and devoured it in one sitting, only to begin all over again.
Absolutely fantastic!
Can this woman write a duff book? No she can’t! This is fantastic second helping of Miles & Havoc’s story & I loved it. Meeting Menace was also a treat & by the way I want one! Thank you Ms Winters for another humorous treat xx
Utterly Amazing
Familiar Beginnings is utterly amazing. Havoc and Miles are such fantastic characters. I can't wait for book 3 especially as there's new characters to get to know. There's Menace the -ahem- cat, Etienne and Leo, can't wait!!!
Absurdly hilarious
The second book about Miles and Havoc did not dissappoint. Their adventures are as deadly and hilarious as one might hope. Absolutely great book.
