Extraordinary Things to Cut Out and Collage

I ordered this to see why it's so popular and see if I could solve the mystery of why it's apparently out of print. Well, it's popular because it's magnificent. The paper quality is astonishingly good, and very heavy. In fact, it's heavier than any art book I own. The images are varied and fun and fantastical, too. Everything about this book is impressive. I'm wondering if it's out of print because some images may have been copyrighted, or could be disputed. Some graphics in the book are definitely more recent than the usual date when works become public domain. So, I'm glad I own this. But... there SO much about this book that I love, I don't want to cut it up. Even to make art. And frankly, I'd have to break the binding even to scan some of the images. I'm trying to get past my foibles, but - for now - this book sits in my bookcase where I can take it off the shelf and admire it regularly. I applaud the author and the amount of work it took to create this book. It's top quality, and truly unique in the field.

If you are a lover of all "Fairly Odd" things when it comes to unusual and different activities and books, etc.... boy are you going to LOVE LOVE this!!! This is a BIG Book! Very tall! Maybe about 70 pages or so! Each page is filled with multiple photos of random things that you can cut out. There are themed sections too like "Plants", "Food", "Appliances", "Astronauts", "Fashion", and all pictures are from back in the 50s-60s-70s! Alllll retro! Now the paper is not thick like card stock... its more like magazine, but still perfect for a random project needing a pop culture collage or a vision board or like I did, I cut out a lot of images and glued them to a 8x10 stretched canvas board and framed them! Get as creative as you want with these! So many images to explore!

The most wonderful gift for my wife who loves to collage! She absolutely LOVES every picture in the book!

Great resource. Tons of unique images in a variety of sizes printed on one sided pages, so you never have to make a tough decision. I had to deduct a star because there are no dinosaurs, and I really needed a dinosaur.

I love to work with collage and mixed media and often find myself thumbing through old magazines for a special image or something unique that I can use. This book has everything in it! It’s a larger size than I expected, about 9 x 14. They have wisely only printed on one side of the pages and the paper is good quality. There is an introductory section that gives some very creative ways to use the images which I appreciate it. There is also a good variety in the size of the images that are provided, from quite small to full page but most sizes are in between. The color quality is quite good and I can hardly wait to get started on my next project! I think it is an excellent value for the cost and highly recommend it.

I was looking for a wide variety of images to supplement my other pieces and this book has what I was interested in. I liked that the images are one sided and easy to cut. Great for novices learning techniques to assemble collages.

My mistake was that I missed that these have to be cut out & they aren’t adhesive. There are some beautiful images, very detailed but that’s why it takes a lot of precise cutting. I prefer stickers too for ease in applying. I’ll keep these and use them sparingly for some projects.

I am working with the images from this book nowadays. The paper's quality of the book is wonderful. The colors of the images are really well. It is very enjoyable to work with the images from this book. Definitely, I'll order this book again in the near future!

This was fun to create pictures

Persons in the art community were using this book and saying how great it was. I decided to purchase. There are a a wide range of images - vintage , floral ,pop etc. In the first 21 pages Maria shows how she created some of her work, tells you how to build a collage (step by step), materials required. I purchased this for the buildings, flora and the hands. Some of the images I'm not sure how I will use, but I guess that's the beauty of the book - think outside the box.

Images are printed on one side and a silhouette of the image on the other. Made it easier to cut out images from different angles. Great variety of themes and image sizes. The intro gave good advice on making a collage. There should be more books like this one.

There are some great images in this book. However many of them are very difficult to cut out. I used them for collage.

Quarantine has renewed my love for mixed media and collage, but as someone who is very particular about the types of images I am looking for (often when I don't even quite know what they are yet), it can be a struggle to ever move past the hunting for materials stage. I ordered this book on a complete whim and am so pleased by the quality of the images and all the interesting and helpful tips and inspiration from the author!!! I cannot wait to put this to great use and will definitely be purchasing something similar to it in the future!

I adore this quirky, fun, delightful book of fantastic images meant to be cut out and decoupaged or used in collage or multi-media artwork. The book provides plenty of inspiration and gets the creative juices flowing, and it's also just fun to look at! Suitable as a coffee table book; great book to look at with kids between the ages of 3-16; and although large, would be entertaining in the loo. There's something for everyone in this treasure trove of wonderful pictures! Buy it now!

Some pictures are hard to cut out but most can be cut out.These are not stickers.

Really cool if you're into unique retro, vintage images. Whoever designed this book clearly had a lot of fun, and it's so much fun looking through it and using the images -- there are so many of them! My teenaged daughter is having a great time making collages from this book. Highly recommend!

I’ll get lots of use from this wonderful book. It’s just that it arrived bent and damaged along the spine.

This is a delightful book with a huge variety of images to use for your collages. Images range in size from quite small to full page. There are some collage examples and simple instructions in the beginning but the book is mostly images for your use. Printed on a single side, so there is no concern for having to choose one side over another as I've found with some other collage books. I could stand for a bit thicker paper but as it stands, I already use magazine cut outs and these are on more substantial paper. So, no real complaint!

I really wanted to love this. The colors are very muted which just isn’t for me. I wish the pages Were perforated so that they would come out easily.

This (among other sources and a lot of work) really helped me create a vision board that got rave reviews.

Received the book today, finally! It took some time ( due to Covid I'm sure ), but it was so worth the wait! Pictures are printed on one side so you don't have to choose. I loved this book! Maria Rivens out did herself. This book says clearly states it has over 1,500 images. However, the number of images seems to go on forever. These are beautiful, quality images. The book is 3 pounds plus and is an oversized publication. I purchased this book to use in mixed media/collage artwork. Now I am torn between using this publication for my art or keeping it for endless inspiration.

My fault for not making sure. I use them with glue but I wish I didn't have to cut every corner of these.

I saw this book on Youtube from another crafter. I purchased it haven't used it yet but I love love the pictures in this to cut out. If you journal or do junk journaling this is a must have. So many different options to do and cut out from this book. Love it!!!

I love the idea of this book. This is really spectacular and offers the opportunity for many amazing collage works. Though I do wish more of the photos were more modern, or a varied styles perhaps. Some of it doesn't really appeal to me - but then again, I knew that when I purchased it. Definitely a great buy and I'm glad to have it at my fingertips.

This was definitely worth $18. It got to my house in four days and I am very happy with the purchase. The paper is sort of waxy which makes it easy to cut on the pictures. It’s a huge book full of all kinds of pictures. I made a collage of some of the pages which I will attach. Would buy again!

This book is great quality and the images are varied and beautiful. The artist generously has shared some tutorials in the book so even if you’re just getting started there is no shortage of inspiration and information! It has instructions for some activities in the front of the book. It is just an excellent book. I promise if you get it won't be disappointed. IT is fabulous.

Wonderful clip book! So many different images! The paper seems to be the right thickness. This is my first clip book and I'm happy I chose this one!

Literally AMAZING! I haven’t been this excited about something since I was a kid, there is sooo much stuff to look at you almost have to take it all in, in sessions. The images are sooo cool and unique. Would buy more if there was a series.

This book has so many different type of elements that one could use in their collage pages/journal. I am really impressed. I am playing with some of the pieces and they are really easy to lay down with some gel medium. The images in the book are so versatile. I am very happy with the collage images and I hope the author plans on releasing more books.

What an amazing book. Page after page of fab images in many sizes from tiny to full page. Looking for a full color image? It’s right here. High quality, full color, I’m 100% pleased. But note, all images need to be cut out. So if you don’t enjoy fussy cutting, you might not be as pleased.

when i first received the book, i was very intimidated. i have since made a handful of pieces using some selections from the book and I AM OBSESSED!! if you are an analog collage artist of ANY skill this book is a must have!!!!

Oh my gosh! This is the mother lode of all collage books! I couldn’t believe the number of amazingly gorgeously illustrated images! The paper is of excellent quality and each page has a perforation for easy removal. Creativity run amuck! So many possibilities!

Nice selection of images but i expected them to be printed on matte paper. Instead the paper is plastic? Is this a removable coating? If so, its extra work for no reason, except to slightly blur the images after printing. While not encyclopedic, its a nice retro collection but certainly not spectacular. I would not suggest this to real artists- beginners only.

Most of the pictures in the book are great, but Amazon wrapped the book very badly, so that it arrived folded. Perhaps the people who put it in the package didn't care, I don't know of course. I can't use every picture because of the bad shape. ;-(

As a mixed media artist I can truthfully say that this book is just what I needed! The paper quality is outstanding as are the photographs. I would definitely recommend this product.

many images are too pale, low contrast. hard to see edges to cut. the paper is just too thin. i guess i'll adhere some pages to another layer of paper before cutting.

Every scrapbooker should purchase this item! It is so worth the money, especially compared to how expensive traditional scrapbooking supplies tend to be.

Pretty pictures but the book came pretty damaged and gross looking some of the images inside can be used because they’re all bent

I bought for a 10 year old and it was too difficult

the book itself is excellent, marvelous images, brilliantly reproduced. nice selection of visuals. endless possibilities for collage! what was bad about the book was the condition it arrived in. although placed in a (somewhat) padded envelope, three corners of the softcover book (which wasn't wrapped in plastic nor paper) were seriously bumped, wrinkled, and.or damaged in some way. in my estimation, a book in this condition should be on the remainder table somewhere and not sold as "quality" merchandise. it wasn't. very disappointed in amazon.

My boyfriend got me this for Christmas from my wishlist and I love it so much! It's definitely worth the money. I would like to see her put out many more of these books. It would be great to get one with more fantasy, magical and animal elements, crystals etc other celebs like Dolly Parton. This book will definitely come in handy.

I received this from a friend for my birthday. I've been collaging for years but as you'll notice in reviews of other books like this the biggest issue is that most things people use to make collages are double sided so you have to pick and choose what you can use. However this whole book is onesided. I was worried at first at the paper type because the first collage I made ended up pretty bumpy but by the time the mod podge had dried it was flat and looked great. I suggest using the glossy finish mod podge with these. There's so many different things to choose from and it really added something special that I don't think I was ever able to have just pulling things from magazines all those years. The only down side is that the pages aren't perforated. There's a dotted line to cut but if youre not careful you could accidentally cut a piece off of something on a page. I ended up using an exacto knife to take each page out.

I love this book -- it's jam packed full of interesting images with varying sizes and subjects. It's kept me busy during quarantine and I've made several collages. I want a volume 2!

I love this book for so many reasons ... it Has so many images. something for everyone.. the pages are one sided so you are not ruining any of the images while by out another ... The back side of the page is shaded so you can see where to cut if you have to turn the image over... I am so so so so glad I got it . I wish that they come out with a other edition ... I am an art therapist and I purchased this for groups. Sometimes, magazines do not have the imagery that a client needs to communicate their ideas and thoughts. This book has everything! I will continue to buy more copies of this as my copy gets used up. This is an incredibly valuable resource.

This is a fantastic collage book with a really good variety of images. It also has a section at the front with tips and inspiration for collages, which I found very useful. The images are often retro or quirky, but there are also pieces from famous works of at, lots of wildlife, flowers, buildings, vehicles and so on. Would recommend for collage/journaling fans.

Il libro è arrivato nei tempi previsti e ben imballato. Sono rimasta piacevolmente colpita dalla qualità delle immagini, dalla varietà dei temi(natura,fumetti,città,animali,piante,retrò,città,ecc.) e dalla possibilità di avere degli sfondi dettagliati su cui incollare subito delle immagini. La carta si presenta di uno spessore adeguato.Le immagini si riescono a ritagliare bene anche se ravvicinate. Unico neo,secondo me,il prezzo che trovo comunque elevato.

I have only looked through the first 20 or so pages of the cut outs and they are fantastic! It will take me hours to look through this book before I decide what to do first. The choices really are endless. An interesting narrative and helpful tips at the start of the book too.

This is a wonderful book. I love it so much that I'm buying a second copy. It's a shame there's no downloadable version included so that you can print and scale the images.

This is an excellent book which has hundreds of images to cut out and use for a highly imaginative collage. The overall quality of the images are good. As an added bonus the book has an introduction to collage, so if you're new to this artform the information provided is enough to get you started. When I started doing collage I bought too many books, and most of them had repetitive information or information that could be found on-line. Too much information can be confusing, but this book provides just the right amount. It also gives examples of collage and has a small section on famous collage artists, that also depicts some of their work. This is a great book and the best book that I have ever found on collage. The retail price is really good value, but as a bonus it is currently reduced. I highly recommend this book.

I haven’t even started yet (it just arrived) and I am already thinking about ordering another! The paper seems good quality, the image quality is good and there is a large array of different subject matter. The book is thicker than I expected and there are a few collage examples at the front to inspire. Just what I was looking for! Excellent, thanks! The photos I am including show just a handful of the many pages. Some images towards the back of the book are large/background images. The images are only printed on one side of the page so there will be no wasting one image to use another (I always hate that). Nothing negative to say really, I hope they make more. Questo libro è semplicemente fantastico. Tantissime immagini di tutti i tipi e di ottima qualità, in più sfondi e ritratti da rielaborare a proprio piacimento. All'inizio alcuni consigli sull'arte del collage, che purtroppo sono scritti in inglese, ma chi come me lo mastica a livello base, capisce tranquillamente! Super consigliato.

What a fantastic book. I’m so incredibly glad I bought it. This is a great book to start collaging. What I loved is that although the book is primarily made up of images to create your very own collages, it also details famous artists who have used collages in there own work as a form of inspiration. In the book she, also has examples of own work and some collages she has produced using images from the book, which is just brilliant if you are new to the art of collage, as you could use this as a practice exercise before creating your own surreal collages. It also shows you how you might go about the whole process if you really have no idea, step by step. I think the book is brilliant as an artist myself and I can’t wait for her to produce more. I could see my students buying this book for there art work and I will be highly recommending it. Well done. When’s the next one coming out??? 😂😂😂

素材をいろいろ買い集めるよりも、まずはこれから始めてみるといいと思います。背景素材は別途必要ですが。 しかし中身を見る前にテンションダダ下がり。 裸の状態で配送用の外袋に入っていたので天候も影響して中が湿気気味。 おまけに四隅が擦れて丸くなっていて、折れが一箇所ありました。 新品を購入したのにまるで中古品。 在庫管理も梱包も雑。 どうせ切り刻んでしまうのですけど、綺麗なものをせめてビニールで包むなりして梱包していただきたかった。

Great Book! Very addictive. I love the theme. However the entire book appears to be incredibly white-washed. It'd be great if there were more people of colour in them. BIPOC fit nicely into the vintage aesthetic too! For example; Old Bollywood, Traditional attire from Asian countries/regions such as Japan, China, Korea and Thailand. Also Harlem! Harlem in the 40s, featuring African Americans in dapper clothes etc. Also the entire book is missing a Jellyfish and cute little duckies!

bello, finalmente un libro che ha capito cosa serve se vuoi fare un collage le prime venti pagine sono indice e illustrazione delle tecniche dalla 22 in poi immagini solo da un lato da ritagliare, belle, ben definite, varie, insomma perfette forse anche troppo, che rende un peccato ritagliarle, non c'è né CD né l'link quindi sono uniche, fotocopiarle sarebbe complicato le ultime 20 pagine sfondi messi a disposizione per provare a fare i primi passi insomma l'autrice ha veramente centrato l'obbiettivo unico neo, il costo, troppo alto

Dieses Buch ist das mit Abstand beste, dass ich bislang mit Cut Out-Motiven finden konnte. Eine wirklich sehr schöne, umfangreiche Auswahl zu verschiedenen Thematiken. Die Grundlagen der Collage-Technik und benötigten Materialien wird eingangs erklärt, ebenso wie ein paar Beispiele, die mit den Motiven aus dem Buch nachgestaltet werden können. Ich kann dieses Buch nur empfehlen und würde mir sehr wünschen, dass es noch ein zweites Buch von Maria Rivans geben würde. Bin aber tatsächlich geneigt, mir dieses hier nochmal zu kaufen, weil mir viele Motive einfach sehr, sehr gut gefallen!

Love this book! The pictures are varied in size and shape and complexity. Scissors and a craft knife and some glue and you're away. You can cut very finely or not so finely and still have fun. Everything is printed on one side only so no worries there. And there's some advice in the front if you need help getting started. A great book overall.

Sehr umfangreiches und vielfältiges Material, übersichtlich sortiert nach Gebäuden, Menschen, Pflanzen u.a. Außerdem gibt es am Ende einige Seiten, die sich sehr gut als Hintergrundkulisse eignen (mal das Porträt von Marilyn Monroe, dann eine Landschaft oder eine Glaskugel mit Wasser u.a.). Hier hätte ich mir allerdings noch viel mehr Motive gewünscht. Außerdem fehlt mir definitiv auch ein Repertoire an Mustern, die eine etwas individuellere Gestaltung ermöglicht hätten.

très belles images, thèmes divers. J'ai photocopié les pages (il faut réduire de à 90% pour obtenir en A4 toutes les images d'une page) afin de pouvoir l'utiliser plusieurs fois. Je recommande.

You’ll need two because the books are so beautiful, you don’t want to cut it up! So much to get involved with and brilliant fun. LOVE IT!

Well, that's the first time I've ever bought a brand new book with the sole intention of tearing it apart. Lovely images, vibrant colours and a good selection for collages and art journals. If I had any criticism it would be that perforating the pages so they can be torn out easily would really help. It would also be once to have an electronic download with it, or even a DVD, so you can use the images more than once. I can honestly say I have used every page in this book including the covers and would recommend it.

I have only a glowing report on this book by Maria Rivans.. This book on Collage is by far the best book on the market. I have looked at most other books on this subject and this is the one to buy.. I had the pleasure of meeting Maria at the Affordable Art Fair and now follow her on Social Media... She is a fantastic artist, Buy the book now.... Geoff White....

I bought this book cause I wanted to create collages but I didn't want to expend a lot of money in new magazines or newspapers. This book has a lot of different images to create collages and also an introduction about the author of the book and how to do your own collages properly. Just love it!

This is a great book, packed full of images. I didn't expect there to be so many. Definitely recommend it.

If you love collage, decoupage or scrapbooking I urge you to buy this beautiful book. I cannot praise highly enough the quality and fantastic variety of images for you to cut out. They are all printed in a way that os so easy to cut out. Do not hesitate to buy.

I had read the reviews for this book and was expecting to like it but it surpasses my expectations. So many good quality images of varying styles and sizes, I can’t wait to start using them, although I might need to buy a second copy just to keep!

AMAZING! this arrived next day and it is beautiful. Such an array of different images. So inspirational. Cant wait to start using them. Perfect and a must have for anyone decoupage or scrapbook lover. Crafting heaven!!! Well worth the money.

Lovely book but four of the pages are double printed on each other so four pages are also blank were the pic should have been. Because of this, eight pages of images have been ruined and are not useable. I can't even send this back as i'm currently isolating. UPDATE Thank you for the replacement book. It is much appreciated. Beautiful images.

Bought this for my daughter's birthday and she loves it. I am sure that she will find that creating collages from it will be relaxing and creative. I am expecting to see the results before long!

Good images but came damaged

Incredible resource for collage making and a number of other projects. Such a gorgeous book, I didn't want to cut it up so I purchased two!! Plenty of inspiration, guidance and information alongside all the beautiful images.

Such a beautiful book with lovely images! Unfortunately my copy came with a few pages stuck together which ended up putting holes in a few pictures.
