Theological Issues

I purchased this book to read the week leading up to Easter. There are some problems with what this book communicates. For instance, in the Gloomy Garden story, it states, “Father, are you there?” “Do I have to die? Is there any other way we can teach the world about heaven.” The problem here is that Jesus didn’t die to teach us about heaven. He died as a sacrifice for our sins, once and for all. These two things are not the same. The love letters take liberties in explaining how God feels. If scripture doesnt tell us these details, why are we assuming them? The love letter in The Darkest Day story states that God cried when Jesus died. It states that God felt alone. Scripture does not indicate this. All scripture tells us is that God turned his back on Jesus. The author is assuming what God thought and in that way is placing herself in God’s shoes. This book will not be used again in our home. Our children even noticed the problems.

A must have for parents!

I searched for a book to explain Easter to my children in a way that shows them the love of what Jesus did for us- this book has that covered. It also gave me a chance to explain happy tears to my babies when they asked why I was crying as I read it 😭 The way this book explains Jesus's love, humility and sacrifice and what heaven is, is astounding and touching. The Easter week story is presented in a way that reaches hearts of all ages. Throughout the book are "Letters From God" that will just ring all the way down in your heart. This is a must have for parents❤

Loving description of God's love for us as his children

This book is so cool. I bought it for my 3 year old grandaughter. The letters from god would be super for anyone to receive. They just show how much god loves us. They all make you cry. The pictures and easter story are excellenty done. Great book in every way

A Lovely Book focused on Christ's Love

I got this book for Easter for my 6 year old son. I cried as I read through it and my son was totally engaged, the love letters make it fun. I love the simple way the book explains the stories we read in the bible of Christ's last few days with a focus on his loving, humble heart. I loved how the book showed that deep love was the focus of all Jesus did. I am going to have to look into other books by this author because this is exactly what I want to emphasize to my children. I highly recommend this book!

The perfect, most meaningful Easter Gift! Wonderfully written and illustrated.

From inside the book cover: “Children will love the excitement of opening and reading their own personal mail from God as they follow seven beautifully illustrated Bible stories centered on Holy Week. Each story leading up to Jesus’ glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday includes God’s very own words of love, encouragement, and hope.” This is the perfect Easter gift for my grandchildren and I can’t wait to read it with them.

Beautiful book, beautiful message

We are reading this book through Holy Week as a family. Beautiful book, beautiful message!

Charming and approachable

We have used this book as a conversation starter for our Sunday School lessons. The illustrations are lovely, the language is approachable for elementary age children, and the love letter at the end of each story makes the story of Jesus personal. I highly recommend having a copy on your bookshelf.

Awesome

This is my absolute favorite children’s author. I have ordered (& read) all of her books and have pre-ordered the ones being published in 2019! The books are perfect for the grandkids – & also wonderful for the adults who read them to the children! They are extremely well written and the illustrations are adorable! I’m buying copies for all the kids on my Christmas list this year!

Beautifully illustrated and written; a new favorite

Beautiful book!! Our family’s new easter favorite. It goes through various aspects of the Easter story with a letter for each, which could easily be used as a devotional with small children leading up to Easter. We used the feet washing story/Passover section to teach the kids about serving others at for our Seder/Passover meal—a wonderfully written and illustrated book!

Great book about Easter for a young child. Lovely illustrations!

I bought this book for my 3 year-old Granddaughter for Easter. It is a really nice book about Easter for a young child. Glenys has simplified this difficult to understand essential part of faith to make it understandable to small children. I look forward to sharing Easter Love Letters with my grandchildren.

Beautiful but not faithful to Scripture

Such a cute book but I wish they would have stuck closer to the Scriptural text, especially for the Last Supper.

I can’t imagine reinforcing the Easter story with the littles in any other way than with Easter Love Letters from God

This is the sixth book purchased by this author as gifts for our youngest grandchildren. I can’t imagine reinforcing the Easter story with the littles in any other way than with Easter Love Letters from God. Thank you, Glenys Nellist for another beautiful book...

Beautifully written and illustrated for home, church, small group, or classroom!

Glenys Nellist has partnered again with illustrator Sophie Allsopp to provide a beautiful book for children and the young at heart in Easter Love Letters From God: Bible Stories. Glenys has authored two popular book series: Love Letters from God and Snuggle Time. She serves ministry with children in Michigan and comes from northern England. Sophie Allsopp is an award-winning illustrator of many children’s books and lives in England. These ladies have come together to present an interactive Easter journey that is delightful! Seven sections take the reader through seven events of Holy Week: Triumphant Entry, Washing Feet, Last Supper, Gethsemane, Crucifixion, Burial, and Resurrection. Each page has a 3-D look to it with the appearance of multiple items placed together to further visualize the setting of each event. The artwork is lovely, simple, and delicately fills each page to add to the story. Even the detail of the stamp on the lift-the-flap share an image that compliments each of the seven events of Holy Week. In the writing of the story, Glenys does well in speaking of the humanness of Jesus. The lift-the-flap love letters from God were a reminder on each page, in each scene, that nothing can separate us from the love of God. Even the darkest events were written tenderly, yet truthfully. Sin is not mentioned, but forgiveness is. Though the events of Holy Week are the saddest in the whole Bible culminating in a way I have a hard time wrapping my head and heart around, this is the basis of our faith: the death and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ, God’s own perfect son who came to seek and to save the lost. We must share this with our little people. They need to know. We need to know. If we already know, we need to be reminded. This hardy book shares the stories and does an amazing job of sharing images that are kid-friendly. It’s perfect for family devotion and to accompany the teachings of Holy Week in the local church.

Easter Love Letters from God takes you from the Israelites shouting ...

Steeped in scripture, Nellist has crafted a book that helps us share the story of Easter in an age-appropriate way. Easter Love Letters from God takes you from the Israelites shouting Hosana as Jesus rides in on a donkey to the super surprise of the resurrection. My daughter and I sat down and read the book in one sitting. But this collection of seven Bible stories is also perfect to use as part of family devotions. Each story is based on scripture and told in language that even my little 3-year-old could understand. As we walked through the pages, Sarabeth was able to put back into words what I had just read to her. I think my daughter's favorite part of the story is the letter from God. At the end of each story, Nellist has crafted a letter to be read to your child as though it's from God. Each letter helps your child understand how the story relates to them. Each time my daughter would lift the flap on the letter, and I began with "Dear Sarabeth" she would squeal in delight and say "It's a letter for me?!?" As the story in the book progresses, the last letter gives your child an opportunity to respond to God in faith. It's a great way to share the gospel story with your child, and then give them a chance to say whether or not they want to live their life for God. The last page of the book gives your child the space to write their own letter to God. It's a great way to help your child learn how to respond to what God is doing in their life as they learn to relate to the stories in the Bible. I received a copy of this book from the author. This review is my own, honest opinion.

This book will be enjoyed from many angles.

This is a precious book to give at Easter time or anytime....Glenys Nellist creates a way to teach your child about the Holy Week of Easter. Each spread contains a short story, a Bible verse, and a "lift the flap" letter to your child from God. I love how Glenys Nellist has given us a book with different approaches to the Holy Week leading up to Easter. They can enjoy the story in conjunction with the scripture reference for what the story is based on. This allows the family to dive into the Bible. Then there is also a Bible verse. Families could memorize this together. And of course, the beautiful letter from God makes the story even more personal for the child. With any good children's book there is a great illustrator. Sophie Allsopp takes Glenys Nellist'swords and gives them life with real, yet child friendly drawings. This book will be enjoyed from many angles. I received this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

This was intended for E's basket (3.5 years old), but she won't be getting it. That's not because the book is bad--it's actually a nice concept and fairly well executed--but because we're Catholic and there are some issues with this book that stem from that. The story walks kids through the last week of Jesus's life on earth. It tells what happens, includes a bible verse for reference, and then has a little fold-up envelope kids can lift to read a love letter to them from God that expands and applies that portion of the story to their lives. I really like that. The issues I have with the book are ones you could probably guess pretty easily. First, in the story of the last supper, the text says "This bread is LIKE my body." Nope. Of course, you could just take a black marker and black that one word out, but still. That's not what Jesus said, folks. Second, near the end of the book one of the "love letters" leads kids through a little conversion prayer that is common in nondenominational circles. The wording basically has kids ask God to teach them to love Him better, which is fine. But after that it says something about the child now being part of God's family because of the prayer. And all this is happening on the page of a picture book. There are several things wrong with that, but for now I'll just say we're taking a pass on this one.

An incredible way to explain both the story and meaning of Easter to kids

Super excited about this new Easter book! It's so hard to find good quality Easter material. I haven’t even finished reading it with the boys yet but I love it dearly already. Here are some highlights: 📚 1) The text is kid-friendly, but not dumbed down. The Easter story has many emotions and kids are allowed to feel them. Lots of children’s Bible storybooks gloss over the hard parts of Easter, but this book does a great job of sharing the important parts without it being frightening or gory. 📚 2) The book contains 7 sections, perfect for reading one-per-day during Holy Week. (From Palm Sunday until East Sunday) 📚 3) Each section has a lift-the-flap‘ love letter from God’ that helps kids understand the events of Easter. These are powerful and just might make you cry! 📚 4) The last page has a blank lift-the-flap love letter that your child can write back to God. 😍😍 📚 Seriously, if you have kids or grandkids, you need to snag yourself a copy for this Easter! You’ll want to add this beauty to your shelf. *I received a copy of this book from the publisher for review, but all opinions are my own. Seriously, this book rocks. I'm buying another copy for our church library!

I’ve read other books by this author and have enjoyed them. This one is beautifully illustrated and the letters from God are sweet and personal just like the other books but what makes this book very different from the others is the message. On the page titled The Gloomy Garden scripture quoted Mark 14:12 - 42 Jesus prays in the garden the author writes, “Did I have to die? Is there any other way that we can teach the world about heaven?” This book lacks theological truths about why Jesus died for our sins. Jesus died for our sin. God didn’t send his son down to earth to die for us to learn about heaven. For these reasons I cannot recommend this book. Good book. Got for our God-Daughter for Easter

Good book. Got for our God-Daughter for Easter. We have not given it to her yet, but my own 3 year old daughter loved it when I read it to her. Theological notes: On page about the Last Supper, says bread is "like" Jesus' body, and wine is "like" Jesus' blood. Decision theology in last note of the book. I included a picture of that note in my review. If I had seen that, I probably would not have bought the book, but since I did buy it, I liked the rest of the book enough to keep it and I just used black marker to black out a few lines in the last note. (Ephesians 2:8)

Fantastic!!

Easter Love Letters form God takes us through the events of Easter starting with Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey and ending with The glorious Resurrection. As always having amazing illustrations, this time by Sophie Allsopp. The special touch is something that this series is known for, those love letters from God. I love how they are interactive, and this kids can raise the flaps to read them. Also, they do so well to relate what is happening with how it can directly effect their lives. I especially adore this first letter that talks about how Jesus came to teach people how to love! Easter Love Letters from God is a wonderful way to prepare your children's hearts for the Easter season. Get those conversations started! This book is such a blessing! I received this book free from the publisher but was not required to leave a review.

Book Review: Easter Love Letters From God

In my experience it seems that young kids always love letters. They race each other to the mailbox day after day in hopes that there will be something special for them. When there is indeed a letter from say a Grandma or Grandpa, Aunt or Uncle, special pen pal, it really puts a smile on their face. Imagine how much more happy they would be if there was a special letter to them from God? Although the book, Easter Love Letters From God *affiliate link*, does not contain real personalized letters from God, it does contain letters that have messages in them relayed through the Bible. This is such a neat book as it allows the children to interact with the book by opening up each individualized letter. The fact that it helps to teach children about the Easter story makes the book even better! I love having special children's books in my library that relate to certain Holidays. As people grow older it seems there is a special remembrance of their favorite books as children. These books could even be stored away and brought back out each year as the child grows older. As an adult, seeing old children's books that were special each holiday will be cherished. The Easter Love Letters From God book is one that I will definitely be keeping in my collection to pull out every Easter. I received this book from Book Look Bloggers in exchange for an honest review.

Review: Easter Love Letters from God

`Easter Love Letters from God` is a hardcover book for children by author Glenys Nellist. There are seven Bible stories centered on Holy Week illustrated by Sophie Allsopp. The stories begin with the ride on a donkey into Jerusalem and end with the Resurrection. Each chapter has a pop-up love letter from God for the reader along with a scripture verse especially written for the reader. The text is organized into simple sentences and about 3-4 paragraphs per chapter. This organization is satisfactory, without being too long, for the telling of the story. Various literary tools are used throughout the stories. For example, imagery is used when the donkey brought Jesus into Jerusalem. The people were waving palm branches and shouting `Hosanna! Hosanna!` as Jesus passed by. Personification is used in `God's Wonderful Words to You` scripture verses plus the love letter from God is personified to the reader. The first chapter moves the story along by adding, `And so, his last days began...` This lift-the-flap book cover shows Jesus with a donkey and an envelope `Easter Love Letters from God`, which show the imagery of what the reader will find inside the book. The book would make a great read-aloud for all ages. The primary medium used are colorful drawings. The element that is repeated throughout the book is the illustration of Jesus. This helps the reader understand who the story is about. The problem that faces the main character, Jesus, is that the people want him crucified. They don't believe he is the Messiah they are looking for. They are looking for a king who would be wearing armor, ride a mighty horse (not a donkey), have an army of strong soldiers and carry gleaming weapons, Jesus had none of these. I recommend that this book would make a great gift for all ages, especially for Easter. Disclaimer: "I was provided a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own."

So cute!!

This book was so cute, it tells the Easter story in a way that is clearly understood for young ones. It has lift the flap "letters" that are so sweet that better supply the story and a space at the end where you can write your own letter back to God. It has verses throughout that are small and easy to memorize. Although the story of the crucification is something hard to illustrate they really did a great job not making it too scary or graphic. If you're looking for a way to read the easter story to your kids this book was so sweet. I received this book in exchange for my complete and honest review.

For the Rest of the Story…

If you are looking for a book about Easter than contains something more than chocolate rabbits and hard-boiled eggs, Easter Love Letters from God is for you. Despite the lack of candy, this volume is sure to become a well-loved favorite . This great book is written for young children to explain the meaning of Holy Week, and help them understand the sacrifice Jesus made for all mankind. The underlying theme of the love God has for all of us, and the way Jesus demonstrated that love, is clearly shown throughout the book. Ms. Nellist has an enchanting style of writing Bible stories; she does it in a very understandable and memorable way. Fun things are included, too. This very child-friendly book includes “love letters” --flaps that can be moved to show letters from God written for the reader. This unique addition to the story is sure to bring smiles to the faces of the little ones viewing the book. Each page of the book has colorful illustrations that blend with the written story making it even more powerful. Additionally, a free download that goes with the book can be obtained by going to Glenys Nellist’s website and searching under, An Invitation to Walk Through Holy Week With Me. It contains a scripture reading plan, daily prayers, conversation starters, and free activities. Often Bible stories are told in a way that will appeal to adult ears. This narrative is written in a way that will make the story understandable for little children. The author is truly fulfilling Jesus’ advice in Luke to "let the little children come to me, and don't stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” I highly recommend this 5-star book especially during the Easter season, but it is a great book to read anytime with, or for, children!

Perfect for Easter Week

Starting with Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, “Easter Love Letters from God” contains seven short stories chronicling the events through Christ’s death and resurrection. Glenys Nellist’s vivid, heart-felt retellings combined with Sophie Allsopp’s bright illustrations make “Easter Love Letters” the perfect story-a-day book for Easter week. Included with each story is an engaging, lift-the flap “Love Letter from God” that can be personalized with a child’s name. My favorite “Love Letter from God” is the last one. It clearly outlines the plan of salvation, before giving the reader the opportunity to write a love letter to God on the final page. Reading this book could become a wonderful Easter tradition. Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but the opinions are my own.

Beautiful Picture Book That Tells the True Meaning of Easter

It's books like Easter Love Letters from God that really help instill what this season truly means to my family, while also teaching why we should honor the upcoming holiday. The book offers the complete story of Easter using paraphrased accounts from the Bible, and is specifically broken down into seven parts, starting from the day that Jesus rose into Jerusalem on a donkey, the last supper with His Disciples, His crucifixion, and ultimate resurrection. I appreciate that there is a breakdown of each occurrence of events leading up to Jesus' crucifixion and what followed after, because it gives me a chance to have speaking points with my own child about what we've just read. There are plenty of scripture references throughout for easy reference in the Bible, as well as a special section called, " God's Wonderful Words to You," which highlights an encouraging Bible passage for children to recite, and reinforces what was just read. Of course one our favorite parts is the special (lift-the-flap) notes for children that are written as though they're special love letters coming straight from God. A blank line before the word, "Dear" allows me to personalize each letter as if it were written specifically for my own child. We own almost all of the author's books in her "Love Letters" series and this Easter version makes such a beautiful addition to our collection. She is a great children's author and the series is just amazing. The beautiful illustrations and storytelling throughout this book, do a wonderful job at also helping to share the true reason for the Easter season. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book, however all views and opinions written here are purely those of my own.

Beautiful!

I think this is a fantastic resource to use with your kids. It is very well done. It is simple and written in a way that is understandable for kids, yet still very deep and meaningful. It is a great way to personalize the season and stories through the letters from God. It is a book of hope and truth and allows children to see God as personable and someone that we can communicate to on a daily basis. I also love that at the end, it gives your child a place to write a letter back to God, with your help of course. Overall, I think this is a great book! I would definitely recommend putting it in the Easter basket this year or asking Grandma and Grandpa for it.

Easter Love Letters from God is the perfect addition to our countdown to Easter tradition. Filled with stories of the last week of Jesus' life on earth and Scripture, this will be the perfect resource for family devotions. The illustrations are brightly colored and the lift-able flaps will keep the children entertained. I received this book from Book Look Bloggers in exchange for an honest review.

Beautiful book to share the real Easter message

We just added this sweet Easter book to our home library. We are familiar with this series and all really enjoyed the story. I love that there are Bible verses and passages noted throughout and that the real Easter story is written in such a compelling way. I teared up as I was reading this to my children. It captures the heavy emotions in a way that is interesting and relatable to kids. The pages are filled with beautiful illustrations that perfectly help tell the Easter story. The book can be personalized for your children and each letter has a line where you can add a child's name. Easter Love Letters would be great for young and older children. There is so much to talk about and discuss on every page. The letters are securely attached to the book and seem like they will be very durable. This book would be the perfect addition to any Easter basket or gift for children around Easter time. We highly recommend it!

Personalizing God's Love in Your Child's Life

The Good News of Jesus death and resurrection is a personal message full of salvation and hope to all who believe in Jesus and receive for themselves. What I love about "Easter Love Letters from God" and all of her "Love Letters from God" books is that Glenys Nellist always provides an opportunity for children and their families to see these stories as personal messages from God in their lives, which is something we need to do as we read the Word for ourselves. She accomplishes this by including a short letter from God at the end of each story (where she extrapolates a personal message from God related to that passage that can apply to one's life). With a blank space for the child's name, parents can help their young readers personalize that day's reading in their own lives, understanding a message God wants them to see and/or apply in their own lives.

Wonderful book!

If you are looking for a great Easter book for the Lent season or to give at Easter, Easter Love Letters from God by Glenys Nellist is the book for you! This picture book is filled with beautiful illustrations, 7 stories about Jesus and a love letter from God to go along with each story. The 7 stories take you through Holy Week...the triumphant entry, washing meeting, last supper, etc. On the last page of the book is a letter for a child to write a love letter back to God. This is something I think I want to incorporate with my family each year!

Another wonderful addition to my collection of books by Glenys Nellist

Another wonderful addition to my collection of books by Glenys Nellist! She beautifully takes the reader down the path Jesus took beginning to end of what we now call Passion Week. Even the difficult part of the story is written in a caring and sensitive way for young readers. And the personal touch with the letters on each page is what makes her Love Letters so unique...such treasures. Sophie's illustrations are perfect....so talented! Love all the color and detail she takes with each page. I spot something different each time I read it! What a perfect family gift as we celebrate the resurrection of our beloved Jesus!

This has to be my absolute favorite of Love Letters from God series

This has to be my absolute favorite of Love Letters from God series. The Easter story is told so beautifully and once again the illustrations are very sweet. I have been reading this book to my two year grandson everyday for the past couple of weeks. He is completely fascinated with the book. We talk quite a long time about each page and the details he sees. I highly recommend this book to be on your personal library shelf. I have picked up several books for the grand kids as an Easter gift.

Wonderful way to help children understand the depth and significance of Easter.

This is a wonderful new book in the Love Letters from God series. It is a treasure, helping children to understand the depth and significance of the Easter holiday. I love Glenys' writing because although it is written for children, I can always find a take-away for myself as an adult, too. I would highly recommend buying this book for the children in your life.

Beautiful Easter book!

This book is BEAUTIFUL and all the loveliness I've come to expect from Glenys Nellist. The illustrations are captivating and being able to personalize the letters is wonderful. I also love having a different letter and story to read every day leading up to Easter. PLUS there are biblical passages given so I can read aloud to my kids and one verse for every day that would be good for my kids to read aloud. WONDERFUL book!

Perfect addition to use in your Sunday school program

As a Sunday School Coordinator, I love to use books to compliment our Bible stories and lessons. Easter Love Letters from God will be the perfect companion to use during Holy Week for our youngest church goers. I am super excited to share this beautiful book as it is teaches children about the story of Jesus from Palm Sunday through Easter. The letters from God are so sweetly written, too! I have purchased several of Glenys Nellist's books to have in my personal collection for my own children, as well as for our church library, and all are so well written and beautiful to share!

Easter Love Letters from God does just that

When you can read truth to yourself and your children, you choose it! Easter Love Letters from God does just that, it fills your heart with truth and love with the turn of each page. Thanks, Glenys! Once again you have captured the love of God and put it into words that speak to our hearts!

An Easter Treasure!

What a beautiful book! The story of Easter is told so lovingly for young readers. Easter is the most important event of a Christian life, and the loving words and beautiful pictures show Jesus' pure love for all of us. In one of the love letters from God, it says "Death does not win in this story! Life wins! Love wins!" The reader will see God's love throughout the book. I can't wait to share this book with my granddaughter and other family and friends.

Beautiful book

Beautifully written with children in mind, but as an adult I loved it. Illustrations are beautiful. Easy to figure out which one was Judas on the Secret Supper page - his expression was hard to miss. Also easy to spot him in the crowd on the way to arrest Jesus. Glenys' way of telling the story was gentle and loving while remaining true to scripture. Beautiful Easter gift!

I’m so thankful to have this and many of Glenys Nellist other children’s books to read with my son now & for years to come. I can’t imagine a better children’s book to share God’s great love with your children. I love the scripture verses and references all throughout the book and the sweet pop up personal letters from God make this book one-of-a-kind. The illustrations are gorgeous too!!

Don't think that this is a book that can only be read at Easter!

Thank you for writing a wonderfully beautiful book to help explain Holy Week to children. This book is such a great way to share the "why" and "what" of Easter to young ones. Don't think that this is a book that can only be read at Easter! You can read this over and over again with your children throughout the year--you can never tell of God's love too much! Children won't have to just sit and read along with you, they'll be able to participate in the reading.

Our Family Loves This Book!

This book is an excellent depiction of Holy Week, broken down in a simple format for kids. My kids range in age from 9-5, and this book range could easily span to younger and older ages. The Love Letters from God with the "lift the flap" are a fun, loving way to introduce the heart of God to kids. This gift is perfect any time of the year. This book is hardcover and has quality illustrations too!

Glenys paints beautiful pictures with her writing

Glenys paints beautiful pictures with her writing! Easter Love Letters is no exception and gives readers the narrative they seek in learning about Jesus’s last days on earth.

Great to read together as a family

Glenys was able to tell the Easter story with great compassion and tenderness. This tenderness was especially seen in the lift-the-flap love letters which counterbalance the difficult story lines of "The Darkest Day" Matthew 27:45-54 and "The Quiet Cave" John 19:38-42.

I have just received it...

This book is just beautiful! I wanted a book to explain the real meaning of Easter for my four-year-old in a simple way, that he could enjoy and understand. I really love the way the authors tell the story and even more how they have not mentioned all the violence Our Lord has suffered, still mentioning how he felt on the cross. Love it! I am looking forward to getting the other books of this series! :)
