Not a fan

It was interesting backstory on a YouTube personality and I enjoyed parts of it and then.... It stopped. I thought he would get back to his "stalk" at the end of the book but no he just kept jumping around to different subjects. It seems like this is bait to get customers to buy a sequel. Very disappointing, the only reason I gave it two stars and not one is out of respect for him fighting for our country.

Great Draft, but couldve been so much more

I have a feeling that if Rob had really taken his time and put these all in order and had a co-writer really pull these stories (and more) out, this could have been an incredible book. I like Rob and I like his stories, but they are very disconnected and the book lacked an overall point. Great draft, but this needs a publisher to push the writer.

Incredibly engaging, emotionally amazing condensed life story!

Just received and finished Rob's book in one sitting, I couldn't put it down. Rob, I know you may never read this, but the amount of respect I have for your vulnerability in this book is overwhelming...I was re-reading the darker portion early in the book to my wife who experienced something similar and it brought me to tears man seriously...first time I've ever experienced that type of emotion reading someone's story...it's incredibly powerful. Sure, as a book, it has a couple editorial misses, but the telling of the story is incredibly engaging and this book is, to be perfectly honest, the best condensed personal story I've ever had the pleasure of reading. Huge fan of LunkersTV and Rob, you have now become one of my heroes. It makes me look at my beautiful wife and our 4 beautiful children in an even higher regard than I ever thought was possible. Thank you Rob and Nick...if I could give more stars I wouldn't hesitate to max out the amount.

Good story, but desperately needs a better editor.

I'll be honest, the story is good. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted to get sucked in by it. It's similar in vein to American Sniper, albeit nowhere near as long, but in the way the story is told that it feels like you're there having a beer with Rob on his porch as he's telling you his story. That being said, I can't rate this 5 stars. Far too many editorial issues. I find myself struggling to get over the many unnecessary punctuations, most notably commas. A couple misspelled words, a handful of words being in the wrong order, and some words flat out did not make sense in the context of the story being told. If you're not severely anal as it pertains to grammar and can look past those errors, this is a good read. It's a small book and under 200 pages. Took me about 3.5 hours total to read it.

Easy read (2.5 hours)

I'll start off by saying that this was an easy and quick read. From the time the ups guy rang the doorbell to the time I finished page 187 was about 2.5 hours. The first hand accounts told pull in the reader and make it hard to put down. You really get an insight at Rob and his determination in this book. This book reads more like a memoir than an autobiography so there are some syntax and grammatical errors. Its like reading a conversation with Rob and those familiar with his content know that he is at times all over the place and this book is no different.

Pretty good but not the greatest.

The book was decent over all. It had more grammatical errors than I would expect from any book. Words were added, misused, or left out in a few cases that made a sentence hard to follow. I expected to see some input from Nick Irving but that was missing. I did like the way Rob told his story. It begins with hi childhood and then moves into adulthood; switching back and forth between training, missions, and time in between deployments. I thought that way of telling the story made sense.

Not worth the money

I don't even know where to start, spelling errors, grammatical errors, the book jumps all over the place, and it doesn't really flow. My high school aged child could have done a better job. Not worth the money........never again. Maybe worth $7 to $10....tops. This seems like it was thrown together as a quick money grab.

A man who stood up to his past, over came the challenges, redeemed himself for family. Inspiring!

I picked the book up at 4:30am this morning, its now 9 am. I just finished a very heart warming book. Having followed Rob from his video's and his last book, you can see how devoted he is to his family and friends. The stories he tells are not just related to his military career, but real gut wrenching experiences that shaped him as a person and a man. Great job Rob. I am a former 10th Mountain Division soldier and proudly call you comrade in arms.

Buy the book.

If your a Lunkers fan or Nick Irving fan, buy this and read it. Fast but not easy read. Some soul tearing stuff in here. Nick did a heck of a job writing this and the end message was very well said and true. Highly recommend getting this book.

Good read if you follow LunkersTV. Erratic story line, many errors

Ive watched LunkersTV for years, hearing part of his life was interesting to me and that is the only reason im giving this book a 3 of 5 star rating. Nicholas Irving said in one of Lunkers more recent videos that this book is in the top 3 he has written and i don't believe that is true. Robs story jumps around all over the place like its not in any particular order, there are out of place words throughout the book that would cause me to re read something multiple times trying to figure out if its a way of speech or just not meant to be there at all and most of the time a word was there for no reason. Or sometimes a word was missing leaving you confused. Passed the errors and erratic story line. I did enjoy reading this story. Its a decent read, but only to someone who follows rob on a regular basis. Also thinking back to his videos while reading and understanding the two as one was quite enjoyable for myself.

Did not know about this author until this book. Wow Awesome

This book was recommended to me and I have to admit, it was good book. I picked it up while laying out at the pool and finished it. This is an awesome quick read and the stories were cool.

Hell yeah, been excited for this

Just received it and already on page 19. The only real issues I've actually found are minor grammar issues and stuff, but it's nitpicky to focus on, and reading it you can really tell it cones from Lunkers. Love it so far, hate to hear that these events are true, but they made a legend

An amazing story that will resonate in some ways with anyone that has faced hardships in their life!

This could be the official textbook for a class called how to overcome adversity in your life! Rob has shared his traumas he experienced growing up as well as how he overcame them to be as successful as he is. He does this in a simple, no nonsense kind of style that is very relatable to almost anyone! Not only is it an amazing story but also an example of how to deal with adversity weather you have been in the military or not!

Amazing!!!!

This book was absolutely amazing!!! I finished it without ever putting it down!! Rob thank you for your service and thank you for an amazing book!! Knocked it out of the park!!!

Thank you for your service

Good book with an excellent first person narrative. I haven't read a book for pleasure since middle school but found myself not able to put it down. Along with others, I feel it would have benefited and been a more enjoyable read with an editors touch. The grammatical errors made it difficult to follow at times. Regardless, thank you Robert for your service and sharing your experiences with us! I know some of it must have been difficult to put to paper.

Worth the time and money

I ordered this trew my wife’s account .. My only disappointment is I wish it was longer don’t get me wrong it’s a decent amount to read but the story makes you wanting more ..I’ve had it for two hrs and I’m half way trew .its worth every penny chapter 1 and 2 was hard to read personally ..

READ IT!

If you are a LunkersTV fanatic as I am, you will find this book more insightful than you expected. Turkla's outward appearance on his channel only gives you the surface understanding of who he truly is, what he has done, and what has happened to going back to his childhood, to his very public life today. Even if you have no idea who Robert Turkla is, you will still easily pick up this book, read the first 5 pages, and forget to put it down.

WOW!!!!

What an awesome testimony from Rob. Definitely recommend anyone and everyone to pick a copy of this up. Once you start reading you won’t stop until your finished.

Interesting

Good book , kind of short. I believe that a lot more could have gone into it. Left many how's and whys unanswered. Still I think his fan base will enjoy it.

It hit home.

The first couple chapters hit home. Leaving a churning in my gut that upset me greatly but gave me great relief at the same time. I went through something very similar myself. Besides the occasional error in the book, it’s perfect. I’m only halfway done at the moment.

Good read

This was a great book. I took it from more of an inspirational standpoint to see everything he has gone through and to now look at his success. The book really ropes you in, I got it this morning and was only going to read a little, then three hours later I was reading the last page.

10 out of 10

Very strong and powerful book.

Confessions of Terkla

Read this all in one sitting. Only the second book I’ve read in 18 years since high school. (The Reaper being the only other one) Robert gives great insight as to what makes him tick. You have to appreciate the hell out of someone for laying it out there for the world. Great read.

Great book!

This is a great book!! It definitely gives some insight as to how Rob became the man that he is today!

Great read

Wow great book I haven’t been able to put it down!
