It seems that wherever Aria goes, someone wants to touch her hair. In the street, strangers reach for her fluffy curls; and even under the sea, in the jungle, and in space, she's chased by a mermaid, monkeys, and poked by aliens . . . until, finally, Aria has had enough!
Author-illustrator Sharee Miller takes the tradition of appreciation of black hair to a new, fresh, level as she doesn't seek to convince or remind young readers that their curls are beautiful -- she simply acknowledges black beauty while telling a fun, imaginative story.

I love this book so hard!!
GREAT book for talking about personal space. Lends itself well to discussions about other absurd requests like "can I touch your tummy?" for pregnant woman. As I read this book to my students in my library, I'll stop and ask one "can I stick my finger up your nose?" The shock value is hilarious and helps cement the ideas of personal space. Just keep your finger out of my nose and I'll keep my hands off your body too.
Good Message about Boundaries
I didn't pay attention to content - my bad. One thing I am looking for is a guideline on book age appropriateness. I was looking for my 2 year old granddaughter. I'll keep the book for a later gift. I'd say 4 years and older. Meanwhile I'll keep looking. She hates people messing with her hair so I was hoping for something fun to bridge an understanding. Her hair is beautiful and wild, but sometimes we need to tame it for the day.
PLEASE Buy This Book For Your Little Girl(s)!
My daughter is 9 months old and absolutely LOVES this book. It is a little on the pricey side however, books like this aren't available in your typical book stores. My daughter loves the pictures and it most certainly will be a keepsake!
Great book
Bought for a little girl who experiences this and actually told a grown man who touched her hair just this, "Don't touch my hair," followed by an explanation of why it was inappropriate.
Teaches Little Ones About Consent.
Since reading this book with my 3 year old, she has had the confidence to tell 4 adults not to touch her hair! We love this book! It teaches them about consent. I’ve told her many times what this book says, but I think seeing a little girl with hair like her, dealing with the same issue, helped it sink in.
Great conversation starter
This book has generated many important conversations in our classroom, grateful to the author for this
Every Brown Skin Girl Needs this Book!
I truly enjoy reading this book with my now 6 year old daughter. It is very important for her to have the language to communicate to others that her hair is not to be randomly touched, and this great book gives her the confidence and the courage to communicate that in an effective, non-disrespectful way. As parents we look for books for our children that have character's that reflect their everyday life and this book is a great example of that for all little brown skin girls.
Great!!!!
My student loved this and even read it to her classmates so they’d understand why she doesn’t want them touching her hair anymore. And it worked !
This 'Gender-less' Story Delighted my Grandson!
I bought "Don't touch my Hair!" prior to leaving my daughter's family in California to return to my home in N.Y., but the book arrived after my departure. My 5 1/2-year-old Grandson called to thank me and then proceeded to read the entire story to me over FaceTime, holding up the pictures the way a teacher does when reading a story to an elementary level class! He delighted in inflecting his voice to go along with the pictures and moods in the story. I was impressed by his "gender-less" response because although the photos show a little girl, its spirit captured his sentiments entirely. Its universal appeal is note-worthy and I'll purchase more by this talented author!
Under age 5
This a good book for under age 5. My 4 year old read it ( with a little help). It was almost too simple for us. It's just her happy with her hair but didn't like when others touch so she tries to avoid people but doesn't like that either. So she finally yells at everyone to stop and that works for her. Doesn't get into "my body" stuff, just that it's not ok with her that people touch her hair.
