Francesco Franchi’s perceptive book about the design of media and information graphics. In it, Franchi also envisions the future of news reporting by publishing companies and on the internet. Francesco Franchi is one of the most exceptional talents working in information graphics today. Although relatively young and new to the field, Franchi has already received worldwide acclaim for his distinctive graphic and Edited byial design of IL―Intelligence in Lifestyle, an Italian magazine now widely considered to be a modern classic. With Designing News, Franchi conveys his vision for the future of news and the media industry. Based on personal insight and experience, he offers valuable analysis and perspectives on the fundamental changes that are taking place in the way media is being used. Franchi explores consumer behaviors and expectations that represent the biggest challenges facing traditional publishing houses and broadcasting companies as well as journalists and designers. For Franchi, reporting is not merely filing a story once, but rather telling a continuous narrative in a way that is most relevant for a broad range of traditional and digital media―from breaking news to analysis, from interviews to commentaries, and from photo essays and illustrations to information graphics and interactive visualizations of data. In this book, Franchi explains the ramifications of this development and how newspapers can become credible, comprehensive news brands. In Designing News, Franchi also outlines a new, integrated approach for Edited byial designers. If they show enough dedication, creativity, and talent for interdisciplinary teamwork, Franchi sees Edited byial designers as playing a key role in advancing the evolution of media.

Beautiful book. But it's unreadable

Beautiful book. But it's unreadable. It's full of overlong sentences that are indecipherable. The book is both an example of great design, and the garbage-content you end up with when you let a graphic design write. He should have co-written this with a journalist.

One of my favorite books on typography

One of my favorite books on typography. Really gets you to think about more methodical approaches to scaling typographical systems across lots of different mediums. Book is very well constructed and visually saturates you with the very principles discussed.

Almost perfect

Brilliant design, great content, but the writing could be better. It's not the most entertaining of reads, and gets boring when it is stating the obvious (which is often). Having said that, it would be a valuable addition to any designer's library. Francesco’s passion, skill and talent is something to be admired.

Very relevant in today's ad serving obsessed world. Design matters! We must defend its integrity

Brilliant work. F*** all the garbage ad serving platforms for delivering news content being put out there that are destroying the design integrity of editorial work. It's all about the reading experience. This guy gets it.

Worth every penny and a great artifact.

You can judge this book by it's cover: theory, practice, lots of graphics and analysis. Worth every penny and a great artifact.

Great overview

This book is a "must have" for all news designers - regardless of platform. It gives a great overview and good evidence in an industry where too many think and make decisions without scientific justification.

Love it.

I love how much thought as well as design is in this book. Just a great resource! Beautiful looking book as well. (Disclaimer I bought this because my work is in it)

Five Stars

Una maravilla de libro

Great inspiration.

Impeccable book!

Must Have!!!

Best book for designers periodicals and digital versions and infographics I have read ever lately! It has no analogues. Good clear structure of the presentation of information, there are many examples of design of Newspapers, magazines, and IPAD versions

Great book

Great book, very informative. Arrived on time and without damage.

Excellent quality book

Beautifully made and laid out. Quality paper and well written.

Designing Designing News
