The Captain Rules !!!
He wasn't the most talented shortstop of his era. Arod had more power (of course he had PED help ). Nomar had more power and maybe more range. Tejada also had more power. Derek Jeter played in an era where everyone was suspected of being on steroids and most were. He played the game with more heart than anyone around him. He didn't have all the power or speed or range as the other players I mentioned but he gave his all on the field and the clubhouse. He never did anything to embarrass himself or the game or the Yankees for that matter. His heart and desire to lead and win made him a hall of famer. He didn't win an MVP but his character in the steroid era made him baseball's MVP for years . It was an honor to watch him play and if there was ever an athlete that I would love my kids to look up to it would be him. Thank you Derek Jeter for being yourself and never falling into the PED trap that so many other players did. Baseball will miss you and I know that I will. The New York Times did a great job with this book and honored him well.
Great job, thanks, Derek
Fabulous book! I bought this for my 11 year old grandson, who, like me, is a Yankee fan. He read it and liked it very much. I read it prior to giving it to him and thought it was a terrific book that any kid, boy, or girl, could benefit from...even if they don't play sports.

Good book
A history of Jeter as told through his NYT coverage. Unique concept!
My brother loved it! He's a nearly life-long Jeter fan and is buying another to collect and not open. Well worth it for any sports history buff!
Derek Jeter - one of the classics
Purchased for the Derek Jeter fan in our household. Typical New York Times quality reporting. A necessary addition to the Jeter collection.
