Great way to supplement our homeschool math curriculum
Great way to supplement our homeschool math curriculum! My son understands the math concepts and can do calculations just fine, but he was struggling with word problems and not sure just what the problem was asking. So I got this book to give him extra practice. I like how this book is not overwhelming - just one problem a day - since he is already doing the whole other curriculum. It gives him great daily practice on word problems without him feeling like I'm cramming them on him.
Good supplement
Problems range from really easy to really difficult, but it's more often on the easy side. I wanted something to give my homeschooler some light homework. Depending on what you are looking for, this could work for you. It covers most of the concepts we are working on.
A good resource for practicing problem solving questions.
My daughter received the second grade version of this book from her 2nd grade teacher. She had to do one word problem every night for homework. I felt it gave too many one step problems and was a bit simple but it provided her with good practice nonetheless. I decide to get the third grade book for the summer before she entered into third grade in hopes that the work would be more complex and involve multistep problems. I am pleased with my purchase. The first several problems force her to multiply and group objects into equal parts causing her to divide without her even knowing that she is dividing. The problems are written creatively and use easy enough language for the children to understand what is being asked. I suggest you preview the book before purchasing it. Every child learns differently and you may want to use the grade your child is currently in or a grade lower if you feel your child needs more background on problem solving. On the other hand, if your child excels in this area you may want to buy the level ahead to challenge your youngster's mind.
Great Workbook for 3rd Grade Math
I bought this for my daughter who recently started 3rd grade. We work on one problem together each night before bed. She does well in math, but it is not her favorite subject, and this workbook is changing that! She enjoys solving the problems as they are interesting and engaging. I think she likes the variety. One day might be an addition problem and the next reading a bar graph. Some problems are easy for her but many are challenging. I think the workbook strikes the right balance between easy/hard and is helping her gain confidence in math.
Good for review
I love using this workbook for daily review throughout the school year. I wish the word problems were consistent and became more difficult as the year goes by. They seem sporadic in their difficulty.
Not enough for daily pratice
My son love this book,It can help him improve his reading and math skills,But there are only 2-4 questions per page, which is too few for daily pratice.
Waste of Time and money
Very easy word problems. Very frustrating to have to wait until the end of the book to figure out this book is for very very weak students to give them some confidence.
Great resource for parents or teachers!
Great way to keep reviewing previously-learned information while introducing new concepts. Small, manageable sized daily practice can really add up to a lot of learning over time.
Very good workbook
My daughter is in second grade but she is pretty advanced in math and I wanted her to get extra practice at home (I am a math teacher). This is a great book for practicing word problems which are a challenge for most kids. With Common Core being implemented in my state the ability to solve word problems is essential and this book will help my daughter develop this skill.
Good math resource for extra practice
In good condition and described correctly. A nice resource for extra math reasoning practice.

Great challenges for different levels.
My students enjoyed these word problems and solving them. Some were very challenging. Some were not. However, they enjoyed them very much.

Good buy
Great book, thanks!
Great Resource
Fabulous product - perfect for the grAde level, especially at the beginning - problems are not difficult but are challenging enough to keep kids engaged.
Pretty tough stuff.
I usually teach in Title I schools, so that might be part of it, but this series is really challenging. I've used the third and fifth grade ones, and the kids I teach usually can't start on this book until halfway through the year. Also, all the problems are pretty complex, so they don't focus on one particular skill. For example, if the problem is testing averages, it may be in a pictograph format with extra information thrown in to distract the student. I guess it's good that the problems are so chock full of teachable moments, but bad that it can take way too much time out doing just one problem a day if the problems are too hard.
Good variety of word problems
Good product with a variety of word problems and a culmination problem for Fridays. I would recommend it!
ALL DAILY SERIES ARE GREAT!!!
I have not use this daily word problem grade 3 yet...I just bought it in advance for use in the summer. However, I've bought the 1st grade DAILY WORD PROBLEM and DAILY MATH...I LOVE IT...it's exactly at their skill level, some are easier and some are a bit challenge. I would recommend this series to any mom/dad. It breaks down daily work up to weekly work. Which is great, it doesn't overwhelm the kids...just the right amount of time consuming without loosing interest. And the little facts and cartoons are great in this series too.
easy to use
Relevant, easy to use.
Excellent reinforcer
I homeschool my second grade daughter and she really needs support with problem solving. She performs at a third grade level but I needed a math book that would challenge her and really require her to use different strategies when solving word problems. This book is excellent and does all of the aforementioned. I like how it gives her a section to the side to solve the problem. The questions are challenging for her and support the common core standards. I highly recommend this book as a supplement to your homeschooling curriculum.

Good!
Awesome resource!
The third grade teachers use this as part of morning work and it's wonderful! As the weeks progress, so does the difficulty of the questions. If you're a parent or teacher, this is a wonderful resource!
math word problems
Fantastic for the classroom or homeschool use! Great thinking problems! I teach 3rd grade and we use them everyday to keep our minds sharp and to learn how to approach word problems.
Just ok
More for 2nd than 3rd grade. I would get a level higher than intended. There are better options out there.

a good workbook and excellent strategy
I bought this math workbook for my daughter because her word problem needed improvement. This workbook has five problems a week, charts & graphs, and answer keys. We like it because it focuses on frequent and focused practice that leads to mastery and retention of the skills practiced. I just allowed my daughter to use whatever tools she needed to solve problems. Sometimes she chose to use manipulatives, and sometimes she wanted to make drawings. She also learned a good problem-solving strategy: read the problem carefully more than one time; mark the important information in the problem; think about what she needs to do to solve the problem; solve the problem; and check the answer. For additional practice, I simply used the free printable worksheets on the Beestar website. Beestar's math programs are completely free! It is probably the best among the many learning sites. The worksheets are well-designed and have both time and accuracy targets set for your child to practice. If you are like me, you will be glad to find that sometimes free stuff is even better.
Excellent for daily review and practice!
I am a 2/3rd grade teacher and LOVE this entire series. I use the daily word problems as part of the "brain-warmer" period of the day. This is when I give them a sampling of different things (daily word problem, daily language practice) to work on quietly while everyone settles in and I can check homework, count lunches, etc. I find this to be a GREAT tool as it allows students to work on one problem a day- that way it is not overwhelming, and they are able to review a variety of skills. I find this "brain-warmer" period useful by utilizing a mix of the daily word problems, daily math practice, daily language review, and daily paragraph editing, that way we can review a mix of the skills learned- and the ones that need to be learned for the NJ ASK while mixing it up and not overwhelming the students with too many problems first thing in the morning. Excellent resource, I recommend it to all 3rd grade teacher and even to parents looking to boost their child's word problem/math skills!
