Pearson is a true gem, and in my opinion the contemporary defining voice on working with the metaphysics of crystals and stones. Crystal Basics is the best, most lucid and sound book on crystals I’ve ever encountered and I imagine that won’t change any time in the near future. I work at a crystal shop and I recommend this book constantly because it’s clear, concise, and rooted in a scientific approach. Everyone that’s picked it up at my suggestion has thanked me, and you’ll thank yourself for adding this powerful tome to your personal library.

This is a great book for beginners or anyone that likes gemstones. I've always been curious about the meaning of all my gemstones. I really love rubies [I have quite a few, rings, earrings bracelets,etc] and now I know why. Ruby is my healing stone. It seems to me that I've been picking gemstones that I need which is very interesting to me. In this book, there is a picture of each stone and a write up of everything you can think of! This is one of the most informative books I've found for reference of crystals and gemstones. The price is fantastic for being a hardcover book with so much info! I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in gemstones, stones or crystals. My brother always collected rocks when he was a kid and this would have been a great book for him. This book is good for any age.😊

I have other books about crystals, but this is now the book I grab when I want more information about any crystal. I especially love Nicholas's instructions for cleansing, storing, and programming our crystals. Oh, and the layouts are fabulous for protection, chakra balancing, etc. Overall, I highly recommend!

This book is what crystal "basics" should be. It gives "basic" information, of course, and it also gives basic information that many others classify as "advanced," going into science, crystal structures and formations, identification, crystal healing body layouts, grid work, meditation work, and much more. I especially like the concise layout of his Directory of Crystals and Stones -- very easy to use. So pleased to have gotten this book and read it. Very much looking forward to an advanced crystal book from Nicholas!!

This is THE reader- friendly comprehensive book of crystals. The author studied mineral science; he didn’t stumble onto the magic of crystals. His book is easy to use: you can read it cover to cover or flip to a section using the excellent index. Beautiful photos of each crystal with descriptions and uses.

This book has everything you need to get started with crystals or as a refresher for seasoned crystal lovers. I have read my share of crystal books over the last 30 years. The book has to be high up on my list in order for me to write a review. However, this book speaks for itself. This book goes from A-Z on the ease of understanding with incredible amounts of knowledge as well as being written incredibly well. Another winner from Nicholas Pearson!

I recently got into crystals and wanted to learn more about them, how to use them, their properties, etc.. And let me tell you, this book “leaves no stone unturned.” I’m only on the 42nd page and it’s an incredible amount of information! Really looking forward to finishing this book and re-reading it again to retain the information!

Good first choice for my first book about crystals .

The best book on crystals i have ever read! It presents all perspectives of the crystal examination -scientific and spiritual, but most importantly - the book is full of instructions how exactly to perform the energy works with the crystals, AMAZING book!!!! I bought the kindle version but i will buy the paper book as well.

Nicholas Pearson’s Crystal Basics: The Energetic, Healing, and Spiritual Power of 200 Gemstones has taken the throne of being the best beginner crystal book ever written in my opinion. This book is the one that really should have been named The Crystal Bible and has pretty much everything you could ever want or need to start working with crystals. Despite the subtitle of the book, the 200 stones are not even what is so amazing about this book. This book covers so many things not covered in books or pieces that are spread out amongst other books. Pearson, who has a background in geology, combines that with his metaphysical work to show how the two intertwine – something pretty revolutionary for the subject of crystals. For example, in Crystal Basics he goes over the formation process of crystals, mineral composition, the Mohs scale of hardness, color, Diaphaneity, pleochroism, cleavage, luminescence and the seven crystal system of cubic, tetragonal, orthorhombic, trigonal, hexagonal, monoclinic, and triclinic and explains how that relates to the metaphysical properties of crystals without abandoning the animistic aspect of consciousness within the stone itself! He has taken all this science, weaved it with spirit, and presents it in a manner that is so easy to understand that anyone will be able to grasp what he’s teaching despite the intimidating sounding geology jargon. This, however, is not the entire scope of Crystal Basics. Pearson opens by explaining energy and how it operates within ourselves and the world, which includes the energy body and how those energies interact and affect each other. He provides great insight into building your own collection with methods to determine if a crystal is right for you or not—along with great tips for storing your stones properly. He then shows several methods of cleansing, dedicating, bonding with, programming, activating and deactivating your crystals. Crystal Basics shows how to make crystal elixirs (along with some recipes), how to make crystal grids and activate them (along with some templates), how to use crystal layouts for healing, and how to use them for cleansing, protecting, and several energy techniques like recharging yourself, clearing your aura, combing your aura, cutting cords, and extracting thoughtforms – all crucial psychic hygiene practices that anyone engaging in energy work should be performing in some manner. After that, we have the directory of 200 of the most common stones and crystals you are most likely to come across and work with. The book concludes with an appendix of three indexes for easy to use reference for stones and their healing properties sorted by physical healing, psychological healing, spiritual healing. If there was one book on crystals that you should own, it’s hands down Crystal Basics regardless of how experienced you are or are not with working with them. This will most likely always be my recommendations for new readers. Oh. Did I mention the book is fully colored on every page and full of photos and illustrations? Because it is.

This attractive book is filled with information about 200 different stones that are used in jewelry and as New Age healing stones. The first 193 pages are devoted to how and why crystals work. There are chapters about what crystals are and how they work as well as several chapters on how to use crystals. This encyclopedic book has information for the novice to more advanced information for someone who is already pretty familiar with crystals. There is a chapter on the human energy field that is useful to every spiritual seeker. The chapter on spiritual hygiene and protection is another one that is useful to just about every person, whether or not they are a fan of crystals. The second half of the book is devoted to a directory of crystals and stones. Each entry has a full color picture of the stone itself, as well as its formula, hardness, crystal system, formation process, chakras it is attuned to and its uses in physical healing, psychological healing, and spiritual healing. For example, aquamarine, the birthstone for March, is attuned to the heart, throat, and crown chakras. It helps resolve pain, swelling and inflexibility. Psychologically is creates flexibility, awareness and illumination. Spiritually, it awakens latent information from your spiritual blueprint, invites lightheartedness and promotes greater awareness. If you have any interest in using crystals and stones, this is an excellent guide for you!

Bought from another shop but came here to buy for a friend. I have to say it's the most comprehensive and accessible crystal book I've found so far!

I was so excited to receive this book today and upon opening it, the binding totally fell apart. None of the pages remain bound in the book. I hope this is just a flaw with my book as I will be returning it as it is not possible to use it. The content however seems to be incredible...each page I opened fell apart so quickly that I gave up. I would love to have another copy of this book with an actual bound cover and pages.
