Discover the Korean War through the eyes of the journalist who covered it in this installment of the New York Times bestselling graphic novel series In 1950, Marguerite Higgins (1920–1966) was made bureau chief of the Far East Asia desk for the New York Herald Tribune. Tensions were high on the Korean peninsula, where a border drawn after WWII split the country into North and South. When the North Korean army crossed the border with Soviet tanks, it was war. Marguerite was there when the Communists captured Seoul. She fled with the refugees heading south, but when the bridges were blown over the Han River, she was trapped in enemy territory. Her eyewitness account of the invasion was a newspaper smash hit. She risked her life in one dangerous situation after another––all for the sake of good story. Then she was told that women didn’t belong on the frontlines. The United States Army officially ordered her out of Korea. She appealed to General Douglas MacArthur, and he personally lifted the ban on female war correspondents, which allowed her the chance to report on many of the major events of the Korean War. Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales are graphic novels that tell the thrilling, shocking, gruesome, and TRUE stories of American history. Read them all—if you dare!

I buy every new Nathan Hale book I can get my hands on

The art, the history, the humor! I bought these for my son who is very interested in history. What a payoff! He is learning so much more from these books than what he is taught in school. And it stays with longer than any school lesson. Cold War Correspondent is especially relevant given the events in Europe in 2022. Unfortunately history repeats itself, again.

Easy to digest history

This series is a favorite with our kiddo. He's 11 and enjoys the easy-to-digest history, quick read, well illustrated. I think they're about 2-2.5 AR points a piece.

Entertaining and educational

I know it’s a kid/teen book, but I’m loving it as an adult!

Well… not as good as the others in the series

I enjoy the NHHT series. I am an adult who has reveled in each one. I also have two sons who offer their opinions. The thing is, the FUN of the NHHT series is that Nathan Hale narrate and the hangman makes comments. And that fun dynamic is missing from this book. So while I have no complaints, per se, about the book, I liked the other books better. This is not a good choice as a first book to sample in the series.

I liked it a lot

I like it because it was not from Nathan Hale’s perspective and was from somebody else who went down in history. I liked how they like emphasized what they were doing and what they needed to destroy certain tanks in certain battleships.

History in a fun package

If you love Hazardous Tales, you are already a fan. If you don't know about these books, just buy it and you will find out. I buy one copy, my older son gets his turn, then my younger son, then I get a turn, and then then it goes around again. Its the best way to find out about history that might have been too dry or hard to grasp.

Easy to read

My son loves these books. They’re well written and easy to read. Great read to take on trips

Fantstic

My son loves these books!

These books are amazing. My son discovered them in 4th grade and 2 years later still loves them. He’s learned so much by reading them! Highly recommend.

My 11yo boy loves Hazardous Tales

My 11yo boy loves Hazardous Tales! Keeps his attention. He uses his knowledge and discusses what he reads regularly. The books offer him the information in a way that's fun and entertaining. We have great conversations about what he read and this makes me love the books!

Great book

My kid wanted this book so badly, he is very happy with it

My Students Love These Books

I have had a student come to the library every week and ask if this book has arrived yet. He has been waiting for it for a couple months. I was able to give it to him yesterday and he was so excited. I love that Nathan hale makes history fun and interesting for my students.

Best History books for boys & girls

These are the best books for kids. They are historically accurate but make history fun and exciting. We own every single one.

Great series

My son loves these books. Always has one in hand. He was looking forward to this one coming out for months.

Another great one

Yet another excellent book by Nathan Hales. This series is by far my son’s favorite.

10 yo boy says - not the best in series

Nathan Hale doesn’t tell the story like in the other books in the series. A girl tells the story and doesn’t really use the same type of jokes and funny statements. From the lens of a 10yo boy who loves all of the others in the series.

Mr. Hale please write more….

I have read every Hazardous Tales book and I think they just get better and better. I can’t wait to see which topic he chooses next. This was such an interesting, unknown bit of history for me. I never knew women worked as combat reporters back then and I learned I knew even less about the Korean War than I thought. Thank you Mr. Hale, you’re doing great work.

Great Korean War Tale!

Another wonderful installment in this funny, action-packed, and informative series. As always, I read it in one sitting. Highly recommend!

Awesome!!!!

I got this book on the day that it was released and I loved it! The drawings are awesome, as usual they are very good. My only complaint (which is a very small one) is that it doesn't cover the entire Cold War, just the first three months, I wish there was more to read as it was such an interesting story!
