Served its purpose
My kiddo was asked to test for our districts highly capable program, as we did not have an experience with this test we popped on Amazon and bought a few books just to give us an idea of what the test would look like. While I don’t think this book helped or hurt the test scores it served its purpose and gave us an idea of what to expect.
My kid loves to practice it
It's a good book.
Can't like some questions
As an educator with some training in cognitive psychology, I couldn't like some questions in this test. Some kids with above-average cognitive skills and math skills may actually be penalized in this test due to the lack of clarity in the questions. The way the test is administered at school (teacher's involvement, time allocation/mgmt, etc.) may also differ from teacher/school to teacher/school, so I wouldn't trust the discriminability of this test to much, especially at this level (2nd grade). Compared to another book I bough (Origins publications, 2017, ISBN-10 : 1948255006), some questions in this book assumes that 2nd graders do not have the concept of multiplication and division. If one does, (s)he will find more than one correct answers. On average, the questions in this book are little easier than the other book.
A good book.
Good printing quality and it is a good practice for my kids.
Made a huge difference in my child’s score
My child took her first CogAT test in 2nd grade and scored beneath 90th percentile. Teachers continued to refer her for CogAT testing so I figured we’d give it our best effort and bought 2nd grade and 3rd grade workbooks for her. I learned that other parents were having their kids prep, so I felt better about it. On her next test, in 3rd grade, she scored 99th percentile and qualified to our school district’s gifted classroom. I highly recommend these workbooks. My daughter said she felt they accurately reflected the test she took, though they took it on their computers. Also, I didn’t time her during practice but realized afterward that I should have because the timing element was very stress inducing.
Thumbs Up
I bought this because i was curious what kind of questions would be asked. I also read through the insturctions on how to go about doing each section with my child. It was fun to be honest it felt like a puzzle. Child liked it and when he didnt understand something we went over it together like how the instructions said to. Its a good workbook for practice as well. I dont have anything bad to say to be honest. Seems to do what its suppose to
Lots of questions - good design
This book has lots of questions for practice. Some of the questions involving shapes & the abacus questions were stumpers for me - so I'm glad there are explanations in the answer key. Wish kids could have more practice with the figure analogy & classification questions b/c they don't get anything like this at public school...at least not at my kid's.
Will not order again
I ordered new but I received used and after question no.153 all the pages are missing.
Very good
It’s worth buying. Covers the topic nicely and has good set of questions which may help your child giving a feel of actual exam questions
Very Good Content and practice test material. Best for exam prep.
It was helpful for kids exam.
