CCNA 200-301 Official Cert Guide, Volume 1

The book itself is great, well laid out, and has great info. But if you plan to rely on the PTP app to use the network simulators and test prep software, do not buy it from Amazon. Weeks of being told "The code will come, just wait" and "your concern has been escalated and you'll hear back in 24-48 hours". No code ever came. Just hoping I'd eventually give up and never bother another of the reps again. They then switched their tune to "It's a 3rd party book, so Cisco has to send it" (the book explicitly states that buying the Kindle version will yield a code being sent directly from Amazon, so someone is mistaken) Save yourself the headache, and buy it directly from Cisco.

The written style is ok. It's kind of wordy rather than concise, which can be frustrating. I prefer Lammle to Odom, but I bought this book for the labs. Hands on is the only way to really learn this stuff. Reading commands and screenshots does nothing if you can't practice it. But the book is very detailed and will get the job done.

Great book! I am a student who is trying to obtain their CCNA and this books breaks down complex topics in ways that make it soo much easier to understand. 10/10!

The book says that amazon is supposed to give the code for pearson test prep site to register the practice exams but no code provided with the kindle download. Buy it from ciscopress they give you everything u pay for UPDATED: The codes did in fact come later. took awhile for the codes to arrive in mail.

Perfect condition and also comes with a CD format.

Great book and very exhaustive coverage of material!

First off, this book was very helpful with me getting certified for CCNA. The authors did a good job diving into the material and making most of it clear and concise. I was a huge fan with the steps on how they presented the Course objectives (Started at explaining Layer 1 technologies, then moved up to Layer 2, etc.) That being said, I would make a argument however that when it came to subnetting for IPv4 and IPv6 and the introductions with them, came off as fairly confusing and I found much easier methods on how to subnet then what was trying to be taught in the book. That said, when working on certifications, always use more than one piece of material when learning. Regardless however, this book and series is definitely best to use as your main resource when working towards the CCNA

90% of this book is cut and past from the ICND1 that came out in 2013. ! I guess facts are facts and cant be changed. I didn't need this book as when I put it side by side (with my old book) they were pretty much verbatim. You might save a lot of money if you buy the old book. Wireless was put in this book and I was wondering if it was in volume 2 of the old book and copied in here. Having said all that, the Data is the most readable and understandable book I've come across. It's just not worth the money for me because I have the 7 year old book. 90% of the illustrations and examples where the same. I guess i'll return it and buy volume 2. It's not a new teaching! They just repacked it and renamed it for the new test.

I find Wendell Odom's books the absolute best way to prepare for Cisco exams. I've done CCENT and CCNA and used almost exclusively information from the books (only need to do network simulation somewhere else as the included free simulator version is quite limited). The book itself is high quality, with good paper and printing. I appreciate all the additional materials that come with it - practice tests, review materials, etc. Another perk is big discounts for other materials when registering this book to your Ciscopress account after purchase.

Can't say much on the book, as I just got it and I'll edit that in later, but I bought it "NEW" and it arrived looking like someone took a box cutter to the top of it or stood on it and slid it around on a gritty dirty linoleum floor. Standards sure aren't what they used to be 🤔

What can i see besides its a book which is a text book style. Very dry . It does offer a lot of mixed reads , such as exams and such, but the pictures are black and white. Not a big deal, but i did enjoy taking this course online where the simulations and photos are colored.. Makes it a bit easier to see and enjoy.

I rescind my earlier review because after hours of going back and forth from my emails, to amazon, to kindle, to pearson.... I found the access code for the practice tests but I had to go through unnecessary amounts of menial work to find the code in my email. for the future I suggest that additional content be easily accessible through the products side column for people who have purchased the book so instead of 2 stars I give 3 and a half.

Beware, the redemption code for additional resources from Pearson did not work. I am going to return this and purchase directly from the publisher because this was a major selling point that was not fulfilled. I am giving 2 stars because I do think it will be a good resource.

I gave it a three star because the additional content that comes with the purchase showed up later. It appeared to be deceptive but after about 30 minutes to an hour it showed up in my email. I think this should be fixed but so do a lot of people in the reviews. Other than that the book is exactly what I expected.

I'm giving it a 2. It's ok, has a lot of good information. But I'm using this book along with the Boson labs to study, andni got stuck on a VLSM problem. I looked it up in the book, and it just has a blurb saying VLSM has been on past exams, check out appendix N on our companion website. Just stupid.

The description for the ebook says it includes access to all practice tests and online content. This is false. Only some online content available. Practice tests NOT included

Purchased for a college course

Wow, this book is very detailed about all the concepts and provides simpler terms. I am currently half way through it and think that it is doing a amazing job so far!

I am different from all the reviewers, I am not seeking certification, I just want a good book that explains Networks from scratch! and Da*n this one does! Buy it immediately if you want to learn Networks from scratch

Wendell Odom books never disappoints.

Looks like someone damaged it at the factory and then hid it but the content is great. The website support that comes with this is the gem, even if navigating the site isn't exactly user friendly.

Excellent product. However, this review is not about the product itself. The item was loose inside the box. Thankfully, it is a hardcover otherwise it could have been damaged. Amazon needs to improve packaging. Please don’t leave items loose inside the box.

Terrible pdf copies of the book and there are no copies included of the answers to the chapter quiz questions so you never know if you answer correct or not. Don't buy.

I was skimming through the book and it looks very well made and the information is pretty good. I love IT and leaning more so for me it's perfect. I would have given the book 5 stars if it didn't arrive like it was eaten by a huge rat.

Definitely if you are serious about learning CCNA topics. Wendell's books are the best. They have ALL the content according to the official Cisco Exam Topics. He even mentions them before starting every chapter. Plus the FREE bonus material including the Schedule by Chapters is a hidden gem in the bonus material that can be downloaded at ciscopress.com, once you purchase his books. I highly recommend Wendell Odom's books if you want to learn the material the right way to be a better networking professional and not only to pass the CCNA certification exam. Also I dont find it fair that if someone is having issues with access codes, those are technical issues that don't relate to the content of a book. I believe we should always value the effort and hard work put in by the author to help out the learning community. Thank you Wendell for helping us all learn and be passionate about CCNA!

I read both volumes cover to cover and took tons of notes along the way for the simple stuff I had forgotten. The books have about 90 - 95% of what you need. This was a re-certification for me so a lot of the material was just review and trying to forget back habits that develop in the workplace. You should really pay attention to the key topics, all the show commands and print out of tables, they are very useful. Most of the chapters are easily digestible, only a couple seemed too long. The book did an OK job introducing you to the new devop concepts; JSON, XML, YAML, Puppet, Chef, I would search out more detailed information. I did not use any of the premium material. Also, they really need to add back in the EIGRP information. Its only mention on two pages in a table.

Note that volume one is mostly R&S topics except with a few updates if you have the previous book, they will look quite the same. If you are starting, then get this. If you were preparing for 200-125, then consider reading up on what's new first. I bought mine from Pearson because of the discounts I get and did get my code. It's a good book though.

Although it states in the book that buying the kindle edition entitles you to the PTP access code, Amazon is not supplying this. If you want to use the test prep that is supposed to come with this, buy it directly from Cisco.

The concepts of networking are not difficult, but the Author writes, explains, organizes the materials that it is confusing!!! I did not know at first till I read more and more . Although I know networking and CCNA. The reason why I read this book is because I plan to take CCNA 200-301 EXAM. If you happened to purchase this book, don't open just return it. You purchase this book to study unless you have a instructor or someone who knows CCNA that you can ask.

Initially, I was excited to get this book because I thought it would be in depth and great material. Unfortunately, it was extremely disappointing. Volume 1 Part 1 is Introduction To Networking. It doesn’t even really cover the OSI Model, doesn’t talk about Layer 5, 6. It doesn’t talk about Windowing, Flow Control, Sessions, Three Way Handshake, none of that.

The book I received only has 795 pages, not the 848 stated in the description. Maybe there are 2 versions. And the PRINTED version is not in color. Unlike the seeable eBook that is .

NOTA: Tened paciencia con el envío si lo compráis en fechas próximas a la fecha de lanzamiento (finales de 2019-principios de 2020), ya que en mi caso llegó con un retraso de más de dos meses, pero lo importante es que llegó en perfecto estado..

Che dire è la bibbia della certificazione CCNA. Il testo è completo e integrato benissimo con i contenuti online. Chi vuole studiare, bene, per la certificazione, deve passare necessariamente per questo testo. Peccato per la lingua solo in inglese, ma chi vuole fare l'esame e fare di questa certificazione anche il proprio mestiere non può non conoscere i tanti termini tecnici, in inglese. Considerando che l'esame è in inglese, allora il percorso sembra obbligato. 5 Stelle.

Beyond disappointed that Cisco attached their name to this book. The pages are so thin I have ripped two, when simply turning the page. It is in BLACK AND WHITE. Trying to learn the correct pairs in a T568A with a black and white example is ludicrous. It was obviously rushed to press for the new 200-301 exam, there are errors and the grammar is painful. I am disapointed.

I have sat Comptia A+ , Network + and i enjoytechnical books andhands on material but i advise you to enrol on a course, and work from there handouts , powerpoints, actual hands on equipment, DON@T BOTHER BUYING THIS BOOK, this version of ccna did not exist back in 2012, and they are giving you info on passing ccent withregards to using the blog posts. everthing is very convoluted.they are trying to sell add ons with every piece of info, soyou get a taster of a cpl of things,sims,videos etc, but if you want the full range you have to pay extra for those. use youtube and enrol in a course with an instructor. you have been warned!
