Prayer, I've come to believe, is the key element is following through with the foundation of life which Matthew 6:33, Seek God First above all things. Prayer will always lead you to the throne of the Almighty, the throne of the universe. Through the Holy Spirit to Jesus our Savior and High Preist to God the Father, Jehovah. It will lead you to His Word and to life. Ask and ye SHALL recieve (Matt. 7:7). Prayer is key. As I begin to not just know this but live it every day I begin to have a hunger to know how to pray and more about prayer. This book, Breakthrough Prayer along with PAPA Prayer and The Kneeling Christian were defineing books for my life and others that I've since given a copy of it to. You will not regret reading this book. You will find answers here to some of your deepest questions and pointers to where you need to go and how to pray with waiting faith. This book will change your life. Me and my brother went to Brooklyn Tabernacle when I visited him in NYC because we both had read Fresh Faith and Fresh Wind... and we both said the minute we walked through the door we could feel something was different, the presence of the Holy Spirit. Dr. Henry Cloud said it best, a good Bible church mixes the right amount of Grace, Truth and Time. This is one of the rare churches in my life as a missionary kid that I've seen such an example of this. I beg everyone who truly seeks a life of meaning to read this book. It will inspire you. I also highly recommend all of his books as they've all touched my life in some way. I just got through listening to A Life God Blesses back in January after reading this book and it is awesome as well. May God richly bless you as you Seek ye shall find.

Three good stories about the power of praying and receiving a breakthrough. Stories quite different but good examples with heartfelt personal commentary. Cymbala gives you a starting point for achieving the breakthrough you so desperately want but then the rest is up to you and how much and how long and how hard you want to pray. You can walk away and be satisfied you have read a "feel good " book or you can go deeper and understand the connection to pray and breakthroughs.

If you are looking for a meaningful prayer life, this book leads you into that deeper walk of faith that prayer can bring you to. Jim Cymbala expresses how important true humility is and how important it is to our relationship to Christ through prayer. This book gives Biblical guidance to what the heart of prayer should be like and how we can live in the power of Christ through the Holy Spirit.I highly recommend it to anyone whose Christian walk has become stale and if you are looking for deeper meaning in living the Christian life. It is also a good refresher for those who currently have an active, meaningful time of prayer each day with Christ.

I am still searching for how to make breakthrough prayer? This book does not reveal what strategy to achieve that. I am doing research on Continue Focus Of Intensive Prayer (CFOIP). There is an article what Pastor David Yonggi Cho teaches on "No Easy Way To Pray" on miracles4you.com. I have been waiting for over 10 years of certain breakthroughs. If I have several breakthroughs by CFOIP, I might write a book on this subject.

Jim Cymbala is clearly one of the most balanced pastor's and bible teachers on the fore front today. He is not into gimmicks or soft teaching that is very prevalent today. He clearly teaches love, grace and mercy, along with the fact that God is serious about His righteousness. He does not seduce with a soft gospel. This book was recommended by my pastor and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is searching for a change in their heart and life.

This book reminds us of how important a prayer group is. Every church should have such a group! We tend to think that the most important part of our spiritual growth is reading the bible and hearing good sermons. Granted these are important but prayer that is employed with God's will and His word are number one of importance. Jim Cymbala's book inspired me to realize this.

If you have suspected there was more to prayer than we normally hear taught, you need this book.

Jim Cymbala is the voice of experience when it comes to prayer. His church is actively involved because it is a praying congregation. Miracles happen daily purely as a result of their faith in prayer. God bends His ear to the requests made here, and this pastor shares his heart and his insights generously with those of us who will listen and practice what he recommends. It is a thrill to contemplate all the things that God wishes to do for His children, and they are ours through prayer.

Awesome book to read

Awesome

One of the best books on prayer I've read in a long time. It has really changed my prayer life, and how I intercede for others. I prayed and fasted for 2 weeks for something really important, and God showed me a lot of things in my heart I needed to confess. I saw my prayers go from selfish motives to whatever your will is Lord, it will be well with my soul. He answered and blessed me way beyond my expectations, then I fell to the floor and praised Him with all that I am.

Praying for what what God wants you to have, which is more than (and sometimes not) tangible blessings!! God knows my prayers will never be the same. Learning to pray according to God's word is much more than we are taught on a Sunday morning!! Having listened to Pastor Cymbala for years this is awesome.

Amazing man of God. Wonderfully written on the importance of prayer in my life. I look at praying on a whole different level now. I start my day with praying, pause in my day to pray, and end my day with prayers. Thank you for such an inspirational book!

I have been following Jim Cymbala for several years. This book is one of his best. He gives examples for each of the conclusions he draws and shows from a scriptural perspective why these conclusions are valid.

If you decide to do the study on "When God's people pray" Sessions. This book goes into such detail. It's amazing and eye opening.

Cymbala balances Biblical teaching with daily life occurrences that demonstrate God's power from Biblical times to the present. The stories are inspiring and demonstrate that God's miracles occur nowadays just as they did in the Old Testament times.

My Bible Study group is doing our study on prayer using Jim Cymbala's book. It is awesome! We are seeing breakthrough prayers being realized and our prayer life has grown. I wholeheartedly recommend this book!

To start out, this was my first work by Jim Cymbala. Now I want EVERYTHING he wrote! I really didn't know what to think when I first received this book to read for my own application. While the title may look simplistic, look beyond that. This dives straight into the heart of prayer and faith! Stories from people such as Nicky Cruz, a man who was raised as a devout Hindu and came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. It also had the story of Lynette Mohammed who relied on the joy of the Lord through 9/11. Jim had a chapter on why we shouldn't fear. Awesome. The biblical examples in this book are just witnesses that can reach anyone! Examples of King David, Moses, Solomon, the apostle Paul and even one of my favorite verses out of the book of Habakkuk. This book taught me a lot about myself, and it gave new meaning to praying. It even taught me a little bit about what I need, patience! To wait on God sometimes. To rely on God's joy to be our strength, not ours! I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their walk with God, and so much more! This book is called Breakthrough Prayer. Read it and find out why.

This book was recommended by Erwin Lutzer when he spoke at the Livonia prayer breakfast in May. I just finished it. Amazing, and beyond amazing answers to prayer. Cymbala is sober, not a hint of being overly emotional nor overly spiritual, but is down to earth.

Here is the "secret" to Pastor Cymbala's success At Brooklyn Tabernacle--often intense, sacrificial intercessory prayer. The chapter on spiritual warfare re: drug addiction and sexual abuse is a breath of fresh air in contrast to self-centered "christian" psychology that is dominant in the church today. This book presents some troubling questions as Cymbala encourages all Christians to examine themselves against the backdrop of an ever-darkening world. Must reading for pastors with a real shepherd's heart.

In a believer's life, one of THE most important things - in fact, we can never emphasize its importance too much - is a "prayer". Unfortunately, it is often misunderstood/misused or negelected by a number of modern day Christians. Cymbala's books on prayers are based on real testimonies and solid biblical doctrines, not too heavily influenced by any particular school of theology or denominational teachings. I find this book one of the "purest" and best teachings on prayers written by a modern day preacher (since C.H. Spurgeon). I personally was greatly helped and encouraged by this book (and other books by Cymbala)when I was going through a very tough time, while pleading with the Lord. The Lord has blessed me greatly with Jim Cymbala's books - i.e. the powerful testimonies of the ordinary people at Brooklyn Tabernacle in the presence of their Mighty God - and I give all thanks and praises to Jesus Christ my King! I pray you will read this book and be "inspired" and encouraged (by the Holy Spirit) as much as I have been. In my humble opinion, this is not just an excerpt or a repetition of his previous books. I'd rather call it a great "conclusion" of Cymbala's "Fresh..." series. This book is definitely a blessing to me - praise Jesus our Mighty King and Lord for answering my feeble pathetic prayers - all by His GRACE!

I love how his books inspire my heart and spirit to run after God. I find myself closing his books to pray and start practicing right away what I learned from this book! This is my second book I've from from this author and I've enjoyed them both! May God continue to bless him and his ministry and I can't wait to one day visit his church!

I absolutely love Jim Cymbala and all that he has done for this world. I have read all of his books, and consider several of them to be my all time favorites. However, if I am to write an honest review then I must admit that this is not his best book. I would recommend instead that you look into his earler work: "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire". Both are about prayer and its influence in our life. Yet "FW,FF" is much more personal, filled with personal stories and humbling insight.

Thank You Jim Cymbala for writing a book that is so powerful that it has inspired me to pray for the gift of salvation for lost loved ones and for what seem like hopeless causes. Your book is filled with powerful scripture references and true stories of the amazing power of God to change lives when a person cries out to God. Reading your book as caused God's word on Prayer to become more alive and active in me. Reading this book has changed me and developed a deeper desire to remain in prayer. I recommend this book to every person who has questions in their heart regarding Gods power and prayer.

I'm almost finished with this book and I will re-read it. Jim Cymbala talks about a God who loves us and wants to bless His people. We must be serious about prayer by being persistent and not giving up. We must live our lives that will be pleasing to God. He mentions how the Bible shows how God blesses those who call out to him. Also, in this great book are amazing testimonies of people whose lives have been dramatically changed. Buy and read this book and your prayer life will be changed.

Deep meaningful truths regarding Prayer. Its practical power in everyday experiences. Draws you nearer to the realty of God's love in us and for us.

This is more of the same from Cymbala. What was so stirring to read in Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire now seems like Greatest Hits, Vol. III or more. There's nothing bad or unscriptural here, but the only fresh material here is the stories of his church members' deliverance. A big disappointment.

People that view themselves as Christians should read this book and even more so the Pastors and leaders of the churches in America.
