Helped my Asd/adhd son read
These are so simple and build in skill so slowly. They are great. My 8 yr old has been struggling to read. But learning how to sound a few cvc words and he can read an entire book! That really motivated him. He went through all of these books in a few weeks. So we are done with them. So worth it.
Great first readers!
After my 5 year old got most of her letter sounds down we started going through the Bob books, starting with Set 1. Our tradition was for her to read a story (almost) every night before I read something to her (sometimes I'd let her re-read something she read before, or I'd let her off the hook if she was really tired -- wanted to keep it positive). The books start super-easy, and they progress very slowly. After about 8 months we got through all the books and she can now tackle level 1-2 easy readers on her own. Learning to read is an enormous feat, and these books help parents guide kids through it systematically and at their own pace. I strongly recommend everyone goes through the whole series and then passes the books on to someone else!
Love, love, love Bob's Books! (Educator approved)
I cannot say enough about Bob's books. I taught my son had to read using every single level and I use them with my students as well. I recommend them to my friends and parents of my students. I really can't say enough good things about Bob's books. It features repetitive reading. Children do not move on to the next level until they have mastered 100% accuracy.
Get them, and they will read - It really needs 100 stars!
If you have a child that is starting to read, get these books! The progressive nature of the series allows young people to feel a sense of accomplishment without being overwhelmed. We have given several sets of these books to our family and friends who have little people and they have all reported great success. I don't really care to listen to an inexperienced reader (makes me cringe) but the books move along fast enough that they don't overwhelm the child (or bore you stupid). I can't say enough good about this series!
Simple stories, simple pictures
These books are perfect for the child who is learning how to read. Nice short stories with simple words. I wouldn’t say the stories are phenomenal pieces of literature or anything but they do the job. Included with the books are good reading hints like “when there is an e at the end of a word, the vowel in the middle is usually a long vowel.” Simple pictures that look like a kid drew them.
Excellent
This is a nice progression from the previous sets. It follows along with what they are learning in school. The only con: I'd prefer one book to focus on one long vowel sound and its multiple spellings. When we were studying long E, I had to use 2 different books, one for ee and another for ea and e_e. "Joe's Toe" has Long O spelled oe, and long I spelled i_e. "Chickens" was much better, it focuses on Long A spelled ai, ay, & a_e. I wish they were all more like "Chickens." You might also want to look at "Now I'm Reading: Amazing Animals" in addition to Bob Books Set 5. Each book focuses more on the multiple spellings of each long vowel.
Targets the Skill
These are so great! Long vowels are sometimes the hardest thing for students to understand. It just takes practice and these books really target the specific words that they will need to practice. The rest of the words are easy sight words, so they can focus on the long vowel ones. I saw great success with my students.
Highly recommend these for beginning readers!
Bob books are great for beginning readers - easy to learn words, not too many words on a page, not too many pages, not intimidating to beginning readers. They have been really helpful in getting my first grader on the right path to becoming a good reader. If there is one criticism, the subject matter of the books gets a bit boring. But....highly recommend ALL Bob books.
Excellent
My daughter started using these books before she started kindergarten. This set of books (all five volumes) are awesome. I recommend these to anyone with a child learning to read. Starting with book 1 from the first set, my daughter has read through the whole series, mastering each book, in about 4 months. I loved how each book built on the last one, it was so easy for me help her move forward. She loves reading and is very confident and not afraid to try new words. I just wish there was more books to continue building her skills.
Granddaughter LOVES these books!
Bought set 1-5 for my granddaughter and she loves them! She has her mom let me know when she needs the next set. I think that says a lot when a child is asking for the next set of these books. Very happy with my purchase

Best book series for teaching reading I have found.
When my oldest daughter started reading instruction in pre-kindergarden, her teacher used these books, and it worked very smoothly. When my youngest daughter went through a different preschool and then started public kindergarden some years later, I kept waiting for the teachers to introduce some sort of reading instruction like this. It never happened. So my youngest never learned to read in school. So now I'm homeschooling my girls, bought my own set of Bob books, and after a couple months of "mama school" my youngest is now reading and writing. The Bob Books work. They're a manageable format, manageable size, and easy to use. If you want to teach someone to read, this series works.
It Needs to Be Expanded into Set 5 and 6
Every Bob Book set prior to this one has been perfect for working with my son on developing his ability to read. In particular, I have been impressed with how gradated each book in each set has been, so that he can easily step into each consecutive book with confidence. Set 5, however, tossed far too many new rules into each book without giving sufficient time to practice the rules previously introduced. Had this set been expanded into two sets of eight books, it would have been perfect. I would have happily bought another set if it would have meant that they could have stayed more true to their mission of helping children feel the confidence of reading it by themselves.
Love the Bob Books!
My son loves these books, and has been so excited to read ever since we started reading the Bob Books series. We started with set 1 when he was 4, and he's in kindergarten now reading Set 5 wonderfully. The sentences are simple, but the stories are engaging. I like the simple artwork that helps with figuring out tough words, but doesn't distract from the effort of reading. The new sounds are grouped together well, so that it's easy to pick up multiple new words in the same family. My son loves that the books in Set 5 have a word count on the back cover - he gets so excited that he just read so many words! We love the Bob books and the excitement for reading that they have generated in our son!
Following their method in a child led way allowed for the love of reading to thrive and skill to flourish
Use these books! Child went from recognizing letters and sounds to second grade reading level reading these sporadically. Following their method in a child led way allowed for the love of reading to thrive and skill to flourish. Couldn't be happier!
Fantastic for learning to read
If you are teaching phonics based reading this is a must have. Simple and progressive bob books are a gem.
These books are great for children learning to read
These books are great for children learning to read. Simple and short so they don't lose interest. My issue with the books are they are very small. I was surprised at the size, I had other Bob boos that were almost twice the size and easy to hold, these are very small and lightweight. The content is great and the children love them. I don't think they will last more than a couple children.
Help my little one...
I bought this with the set 4.... My youngest daughter was able to gain her confidence with the help of these books... It was great to listen to her reading and enjoying the reading as her confidence grew... They are a great set of books for the little ones that are having troubles grasping having to read a book and for building that confidence that they can read. She read through these very rapidly (good and bad). The good is the confidence as I mentioned early... the bad is that she now wants more(which actually is not a bad thing) Better than infront of a game system...........
Interesting and educational
My grandson loves this book and it is helping him with learning his vowel sounds.
We love BOB books!
As my 5 yo progresses through his phonics work, we have bought each set of books. I am a Homeschool mom of 4, and these will be used for my last 2, since the olders can already read. The 5 yo loves the books. They are quick and he is able to read them on his own. We use the flashcards (that come in some of the sets) for review. The only complaint (and its more of a question, not a complaint) is why the case does not fit the books? Its too big. It has a cardboard insert on the bottom and there is space behind the books as well. Seems like a packaging waste to me?
One of the best ways to start your Child reading !!!!!!
This series was recommended to me by a friend of mine who used them with there 3-4 year old. A great set of books for the child who is just beginning to read. The words are simple and nearly always of the sound it out variety. These books are designed to teach reading skills acquisition. With a foundation in phonics methods, each level addresses a single stage of reading development. The illustrations are clever, the stories funny. The books are on the 'See Dick run' level but are much more fun than those old chestnuts. This is the fifth set in a series of 5. I bought this set for my son and he devoured them. we read one book every night. He was so happy when he could say that "He Read the Whole Book"!! He is now 8 and reading at a 5th grade level. I feel that the Bob Book series definitely helped in his reading skills. I would and have recommended these books to everyone I can !!!!!!
Good books for beginner/progressing readers.
I homeschool my 4 boys and I could not have done it without Bob books! We started with set one while they were in kindergarten and have progressed from there. My 2nd grader has gotten to set 5 long vowels. He hates to read but loves Bob books! I ordered these for him about 2 months ago and he could not wait to get them and begin reading! I am now reusing set one with my kindergartner and he loves them as well. The looks on their faces when they are actually reading is priceless!
Love these books!
Great little book for kids to read each day during the summer
Do not hesitate!
If you have a preschooler, kindergartner or even a struggling first grader you will not be sorry you purchase these books! My four yr old told me he wanted to read so we started with set 1 and I have all 5 boxed sets plus the Kindergarten sight words boxed set. Today my preschooler is reading at the same level my first grader was at the beginning of the school year; and my first grader was in the top 3/4 of his class! The books are perfect in every way. The start off using 3 letters a book, one sentence per page and gradually get more complex letter sounds and longer stories. My son WANTS to read and we read twice daily! I taught my now middle schooler how to read at age four also but I know it would've been a lot less stressful (for me) if I would have known about these books. My son practically taught himself to read these books! Just make sure that your child can recognize each letter and knows what sound it makes. We only knew short vowel sounds when we started these, now my son can read words like 'wonderful', 'bright', 'another', 'business' and more! DO NOT HESITATE, buy these for your child; and yourself!!
Don’t buy if you have Collection 3
Great books but all of these books are also in the Collection 3 box incase you have that already.
Helped My Son Catch Up!
My son started off the first grade slightly behind in his reading. I knew he could do it, he just needed the right reading material and practice. Completely lost on where to start, I liked the what I saw with the Bob books and the reviews. Starting with book 1 from the first set, my son has read through the whole series, mastering each book, in about 6-7 months. I loved how each book built on the last one, it was so easy for me help him move forward. He thought the books were really silly which helped keep him interested. Some books he wanted to read over and over because he enjoyed them so much. Now he's at grage level and a much more confident reader. When he read the last book, we went back to the very first book so he could see how far he came and he was very proud of himself. I am too! I just wish there was another set for the next statge:0( BTW - One review complained that there were no long vowels to be found in this book, she's off. it was full of long vowels and not just the one with the silent "e".
Short and sweet
Great for young reader
God for learning to read, but not exciting
My son thought the plot lines were a bit boring, but it was nice to have something he could read with his limited skills. The Bob Books systematically take the child from just a few letters and sounds through meeting each new sound and finally to reading longer words and more complicated stories. My son understood that the books were in order, gradually increasing in complexity, and he took pride in mastering each one and moving up to a new level.
Get all the BOB books they help out so much with learning to read
Love these books. My twins are been having such a hard time learning to read these books have been helping them. They are finally reading thanks to these books. They came really fast in the mail and are in perfect condition with all the books in the box. Do not hesitate get these Bob books. Get all of the Bob books.
The best books for learning readers
These books are truly for readers learning to sound words out. So many "level one" readers have ridiculous words for beginning readers. The BOB books truly are at their level and there are so many sets your child can move up through each box set and gain more and more confidence as they go.
Worth the buy. Your kids will love it.
My kids reading ability has greatly improved by reading bobs books. We have all the sets and will definitely pass them on to younger family members.
Great set
Love Bobs books. These along with Dr. Seuss has really helped my kids develop their skills.
Apt for kindergarteners
We got our first bob’s books as a birthday gift- stage 1. Our girls were hooked to reading it. Once they started progressing, ordered set 4 and 5. Apt for kindergartener to learn to read !! They are able to read on their own !!
Got the books, outer box got beat up!
Books made it but the outer book holder box get beat up in transit. The books will read the same though.
Love Bob Book Sets!
Can't go wrong with Bob Books!!! They are the absolute best books to teach children how to read. Every set is different. The kids don't get bored they get excited they can move through them so quickly. If they get bored it's time to move to a higher set. I taught school and I recommend Bob books to all parents.
... for my son before he started prek and he loved them he start reading on his own and taking ...
I purchased these for my son before he started prek and he loved them he start reading on his own and taking interest in words by time he started prek and time he was in Kindergarten he got to read to him class.
Best books for new readers
I would recommend the BOB books over any other set of readers for emergent readers. My daughter started reading these at age 3 (she was an older 3) and started with Set 1. After seeing her success, I ordered all of the sets for home use. They are easy to read while supporting and encouraging reading skills. The earliest sets start with one-letter phonograms, and the sets progress to more challenging arrangements of phonograms.
Not compatible with Kindle!
Bought a kindle version for full price and I am unable to use on Kindle.
Great Beginning Reader Books
I am using the Bob series to supplement my Kinder's phonics program. The books have just the right difficulty to challenge but not discourage. My Kinder LOVES them! My only challenge with books stems from my Kinder's ability to memorize everything very quickly. Plus the pictures might give too many context clues for us. Overall, we purchased first two sets and, once started, quickly purchased the remaining sets. Great product!
What Long Vowels?
It's like this series was written and organized by a completely different group. There are no long vowels to speak of and the leap in skill level is odd and illogical.
Needs better illustrations
I use these books for tutoring. I like them because they align with my phonics program. The problem is that the illustrations sometimes do not match the story - they are just not good. Almost every day I have a student mention something that is not right with the illustrations. I was very happy when I first rec'd them, but I am ready to start looking for something else.
great books
We've had these for 18 months now. My son entered KD not able to read. We used bob books (not these but lower levels) for 15 minutes a night, and within 2 months and after going through the first three sets, he was able to sound out words and reading - Then he moved on to set 4 and 5 within another month or so. He loves reading now and reads at a 3rd/4th grade level - thanks in part to these great series of books.
best new reader books
My sons' read all these books and now we are on child #3. They seem inane by our adult standard and too short, but it is the sense of accomplishment that is so powerful with our kids. Even if the word total is small per book, they CAN read them and that confidence is huge. A teacher told me about these when our kids were in preschool. We bought the whole set.
Such a great learning to read book
Buy these books~~ my grandson loved them
Wonderful to teach reading with phonics
Love bob books. Started with stage 1 and have moved through various packs. Working well to teach my 4 year old to read.
Loved it
Fit right into my daughters homeschooling.

Great books
Get your kids off to a great start with these in your library. Every child should have these. They are a great learning tool to begin understanding the letters and their sounds
An invaluable tool
At three and a half my son asked me to teach him to read. He knew the letter names and sounds so we moved to learning to rhyme, figuring out beginning and ending sounds, some sight words, and finally to blending. Blending was the most challenging and the Level 1 readers I picked up from the library were horribly frustrating. They include many words that are not easily decodable, way too many sight words, and were often upwards of 30 pages. Then I found the first set of Bob Books at the thrift store. They are just PERFECT for the beginning reader. The words are decodable, there are just a few sight words, and each book can be finished in one sitting. I learned along the way that we needed to stick to reading the books in each set in order and that there was no frustration if I first had him read the words in the back of the book. At four and a half he has finished set 5 and is a reader! I wish they made more sets...maybe a Bob Chapter Books set. Many Level 1 readers are still quite a challenge because of their length. I recently found a series called Green Light Readers and their Level 2 books have been a good follow up to Bob books.
Great
I love the Bob books. Great to teach emerging readers!
Content that is focused towards what you need - Long vowels, short vowels, sight words, complex words, etc.
Bob Books are a great way for your child to learn how to read. They are quirky and remind me of the 70s - in a fun and silly way. It is nice to have them split up into the sets of long vowels, short vowels, sight words, complex words, etc.
Helpful
If your child doesn't like to read as my 7 yr old boy doesn't these are helpful. They are short & help build reading skills.
Excellent for long vowels
As a 1st grade teacher, these books are indispensable for my emerging readers who still need a short, quickie book that allows them to focus their skills on basic decoding and sight words. The pictures are a delight and the kids feel very comfortable with these. The pictures really help the kids who are struggling with the vowels. Familiarity is key.
There were a couple of type issues in the books ...
There were a couple of type issues in the books that kept me from giving them five stars but overall Bob Books are the only ones I will use in my classroom.
We have all the sets of the Bob books, ...
We have all the sets of the Bob books, they have helped my daughter with her reading so much. She has really taken off and started to get the hang of reading since we started using the Bob Books. She asks for them, we were two sets short of all of them, and was begging me to order the last two sets for her to read.
Learn to read!
I am a teacher that now homeschools my dyslexic daughter. These books are awesome for phonics instruction and sight words. We have all of the sets and read about 4-5 a day.

Easy for young learners
Great set for kids learning to read. I highly recommend them!
Great set!
My first grader is making great strides in his reading ability. This set of books was just at his reading level. He was able to read most of the words, which helped to boost his confidence, but also contained the larger words he needs to be challenged. I just wish there was a set 6 to purchase.
Nice set for my son to help reading.
Son happy with them.
Five Stars
They make reading easy and fun. They got easier as I became a better reader.
The best books to buy
The best books to buy. If you want your kid to learn how to read, Bob's Books is the way to go. This helped us out a lot and now my son can read with no problem.
Five Stars
dependable product in multiple levels of reading skill
Great summer read for a child
I purchased this as a gift to a little friend who was graduating from kindergarten. She needed something short to keep her attention as well as a review of her long vowel sounds. Most kindergartners learn long vowel sounds at the end of the year and need the summer to practice this skill.
My kid loved this
Great for beginner readers
Five Stars
I LOOOOOOVE this books, and my kids are reading so well because of them.
The self confidence they gain when they realize they read the whole book themselves in beautiful to see
The BOB books are what kick started my daughter reading, even before Kindergarten. The self confidence they gain when they realize they read the whole book themselves in beautiful to see. Great series of books - I recommend BOB to EVERYONE with a young one who shows interest in reading!
Makes a great addition to our sets!
We love the Bob book series. I wanted to next level up from beginner, and these are great. Also got a few others. Makes a great addition to our sets! She can sit a read 5 of these, and we both enjoy!
Great first readers
My four year old grandson is loving the BOB books. I think they're a little expensive for paperback, but it's worth it to see him read. I have 3 more grandchildren behind him. I know they will all be reading them.
bob book lover
I love Bob books they are wonderful great way to learn to read. My little boy has read through the first 4 and is part way through this set so far. I love them but they are a bit long which I enjoy but for my 4 year old he finds them not to be as fun with the length.
Books in good condition
These books were in good condition and they work well.
They are great set of books
I use these at the school I work for to teach kindergarteners to read. They are great set of books.

Bob Books for Early Readers
Although somewhat new to teaching (4th Year Full Time) I really like the Bob book series. I bought my own copy because I wanted to bring a copy to my new school. Problem is, htey liked them so much they added them to the library for 0-5 year olds. Now I need to buy them all again. I bought Set 1-5 and have used them in conjunction with flash cards to teach children to read from scratch(set 1) up to early development of phonograms and vowel sounds(sets 4 &5). i really like them and would recommend them to any parent or kindergarten teacher. p.s. I also used them as an aid in TEFOL to young students.
We love these! My son just started kindergarten
We love these! My son just started kindergarten, and we have used the previous set to help his confidence in reading. This set is definitely challenging but perfect for him. He loves learning new words. We love BOB books!
Love Bob books.
Great condition. These books are fantastic for beginning readers.
It's really good.
My daughter is learning how to read with this collection. It's really good.
Excellent for beginning readers
I am a retired teacher and find the BOB Books to be an excellent method for teaching my 4 year old grandson to read. He loves the books and the "small steps" progression gives him early success and confidence.
Five Stars
Perfect collection. Thank you!
... any young child learn to read and learn to love reading!
A must to help any young child learn to read and learn to love reading!
Love these books!
We have all the BOB books and I've taught three children to read using them. They work well, obviously. The kids like that they've read a book and got through it quickly, as each book is about 10 pages, or so.
so it was good enough.
Would have given this 5 stars if it would work on my Windows 8 Surface and Windows Phone. Worked on the PC and older iPad, though, so it was good enough.

Grandbabies loves these
Love this series!
My 7 year old makes great gains by reading these books. It stretches his current vocabulary by introducing easy, new sounds with clarity in the drawings.
Great for teaching kids at home
We homeschool our boys, and we could never do it without the Bob Books. I love this one with the Long vowels, because the only Bob Books we had were for 3 letter words. Great addition to our collection.
Great for kids learing to read
I bought the entire set of bob books for 6 year olds learning to read. They love the simplicity of the books and having a variety in each of the sets.

Nice Books
Great beginner books. Can't seem to get enough literature in the house once your child begins to read. Keep them in good condition and pass them on.

Great Resource
The Bob Books series have been great for my homeschooled five year old. He has gone from just knowing his basic letter sounds to reading or attempting to read most everything he can get his hands on in about four months. These books were great for practice and building his confidence. I highly recommend the series.
