Bluford Series 20-Book Boxed Set (Books 1-20)

I really like them, read them in middle school, now a junior, love them.

The best high interest, low level fiction series ever! I teach middle school, and this year my classes consisted of those most in need. I was introduced to this series by a student, freshly back from boot camp, who asked if I had any of the books in this series. I had trouble keeping them on my shelf! The students checked them out, READ them, discussed them with each other, and swapped books. My school library is purchasing a set with library binding.

I found out about these books when my former students wrote me a letter telling me about how they could not put these books down. I wish I would have known about this series when I taught reluctant inner city readers. There are a lot of themes and issues that my students personally dealt with. I know they would love eaten these up! My students had a very hard time relating to stereotypical white characters that were nothing like themselves, I love how these books represent a lot of real things kids deal with and the characters themselves represented African American kids- which many young adult books don't. It is very relatable. I related to Darcy when she starts meeting with her dad for the first time. I, myself, had the awkward experience of being a teen rebuilding a relationship with a formerly absentee dad and it was described spot-on. The writing is a little cheesy- but young adult often is.

My son has always had reading comprehension problems. My friend recommended these and these were awesome. They were easy for him to read he understood and tue story lines were catchy. He was happy so therefor I'm satisfied with this buy

My granddaughter is struggling with reading. Her teacher has been reading one of the books from the series to the class. My granddaughter showed extreme interest in the story line and asked for the set. I am so happy that I ordered it for her, she now has a new interest in reading. The price for the entire 20 book set was very reasonable. I would recommend this series to any young adult.

These books are excellent for below reading level high school students. I'm a teacher and have had a hard time getting reluctant readers to participate in SSR. With the Bluford books I literally have kids asking to take them home every day so they can continue reading!! I'm going to get another set. They are especially pooular with girls.

Some of the best books for preteens to adults. My 12 year old even started reading them with me.

For starters it came when it was scheduled to so that’s an amazing start. I’ve been wanting these books since I was in middle school, once I saw that they was available I quickly purchased them no hesitation. I guess I’m one of the few that received an extra, like I have 21 instead of 20 but I’m not complaining at all!!! This is one of the best things I’ve purchased from Amazon!

My husband kept talking about these books from his childhood, and me being the nerd I was hadn't read them. So even they are for teenagers I have been reading them and they are great. We ultimately bot them for our children to enjoy when they get a little older!

We received the package 2 days after ordering. The books and packaging were in great condition (no damage). My son (10yrs old) began reading one of the books immediately and is about to finish it already. He went from not reading at all to being excited about reading. I believe its because the book is well written and the characters are one that he can identify with. I question him after every chapter and he remembers every detail.

Read the series when I was in middle school so I bought it for my son because there are some life lessons in these books that make for a great read for preteens and teens.

I purchased this series for my 8th grade granddaughter as advised by her literacy teacher. My granddaughter enjoys this series beyond amazement, often retelling her favorite plot, characters, and dialogue from each book. She reads while in the laundry, on her school bus, after school, and every night without reminders. A great series for young teenagers/young adults.

I gave a set of these books to a middle-school girl who was having issues reading. She later told me that this was the set of books that made her learn to read for enjoyment. She has moved on to reading other books for fun!

As a teacher, I wish I would have found this collection earlier. I have read 3 books already to my students. High interest level with lower reading. I would give these books a “10”!!!

I was very pleased with everything I received. I was also pleasantly surprised with the additional items, like posters, and other literature that came along with the package. My granddaughter was over the moon to receive the entire series and loved it over the iphone she received!!! Who knew!! It was delivered in a timely manner. Didn't really know how it was being shipped, but I was home when the books arrived. I have figured it out, after reading the shipping possibilities (after-the-fact), but only after I wondered and inquired to track the package.

I bought this series for my nephew. He loves to read and started getting into this series while at school. He was checking out the books at the school library. But he had to wait on the fourth installment to become available to continue. I purchased the series as a reward for his great grades. He now spends all of his free time reading these books. He no longer plays on his tablet. He is instead lost in the stories in this series. The books came quickly and packaged very well. They are so pristine, that he hates to crease the binding. With children needing to learn how to read more and use their imagination, this may be the best purchase I have made in quite awhile. Did I mention that the price was fantastic? Well it was more than reasonable.

Good book series

I had the hardest time inspiring my 7th and 8th grade students to get into reading. Purchased this boxed set based on a student who had read and enjoyed them at another school and now they are all grabbing for them as soon as they see me.

I love this book series, I bought it for my students to add to my library. The books are short, right to the point, they get the student's attention, and have pictures on the front cover to get their attention. Students love these books.

I love these series. I was first introduced to them in years ago when I worked in juvenile corrections. The youth would have in-depth conversation around the books that led me to read most of the books in the series. I would spend a day just reading the book to keep up with the conversation. This helped me to become more transparent and become more engaged with the youth. I am now looking to purchase the series for my office.

In the urban high school where I teach, there are many English learner who have not found success with reading. The popular fantasy and science fiction/dystopian novels that are popular right now are too difficult - these kinds of settings have lots of context-heavy vocabulary, and it's frustrating. Students who have struggled with reading all their lives can find interest in the Bluford books. Although most books are written at a middle school level, they do deal with some more mature issues - like gangs, drug use, pregnancy, and abuse - so I would not suggest them for a middle schooler. They can be read in any order, since the characters overlap, and there are subtle mentions to story lines in other books. One note, right now in summer 2018, it looks like this boxed set is "on sale" for over $70, but the publisher offers the same boxed set for $45 plus shipping, and each book is on sale for $2 plus shipping. $20 doesn't seem like a big deal, but when you're a teacher purchasing books for your classroom with your own money, that $20 can purchase more books instead of an overpriced boxed set on Amazon.

Loved the books

I teach at risk youth and they love these books. For some of my students, this is the first book(s) they have ever read. All my boys love these no matter their race or their background. I highly recommend, your child or your students will love them. I've even had students finish the series and start over. Two thumbs up!

My kids love these books!! I teacher special education and it's a struggle to get the kids to read! But this!!!!!! THIS they will read!! The books are so entertaining and it's so refreshing seeing the kids want to continue reading! Great buy!!

The Bluford series eas for my son Summer reading. I just could not believe how quickly he was able to read all 20 books. He wrote a book report for school about the Series and his English teacher said that was so insightful. I hope that he continue to read because reading can transport us to places that is unimaginable.

I remember reading some of these in middle school (about 12 years ago). I loved the books. Remember trying to turn "The Bully" into a screenplay for an English class. Definitely love this series. Only a 4 you ask? Yeah, I didn't finish the series. So yes, I am going to order this at 23 and read them like I'm 12 all over again.
