Black's Law Dictionary

It's good as a quick reference if you are cool with the tenth edition of blacks law dictionary which this is based on. This is the fourth edition of the pocket dictionary, not based on the main blacks law dictionary, fourth edition. To know the real common law, you need the fourth edition or earlier.

I used it twice and neither time did it have the word I was looking for. Considering that cases reference a ton of Latin phrases that are purportedly common, this book has a serious deficiency for all of them. It might be better for when you're past your first year but I haven't found it useful so far.

I am so glad I bought it brand new and got it in less than a few days. it was packaged well and though it cant fit in my pocket, it def fits securely in my purse where it will be for the next 4 years.

Nice, inexpensive

I own both the hard copy and this pocket edition. The pocket edition is lightweight enough to put in my computer bag and carry with me for quick reference of a specific item or for general review. I highly recommend adding the pocket edition to your library.

I bought this for my Son's college classes, it's all he really needs at a great price! The larger book was way more expensive and not necessary, it has all the same information. So glad I bought the pocket version.

Excellent book for students of genealogy. The 4th edition is more useful for that purpose than the newer version.

It came on time. The book was in great shape. I think anyone attending law school or just want to learn more law jargon should buy it.

Great dictionary. Has almost everything I've needed. Great condition. Makes reading Judicial opinions easier. Great for during those classes with teachers who are "technology in the classroom haters".

Purchased this for my 1L daughter and she is very happy w/ it. Just the right size for taking to class, full of the information that she need for her first year.

Small enough to carry it with you or store in your bookshelf.. This was everything that was expected! You'll never know when you may need it.

This is the first class where I need a legal dictionary. So far it has been a little helpful, however I'm sure that as I continue on in school I will use it more.

my backpack is always full of books, laptop, sometimes tablet. this paperback version does not weigh too much and meet my purpose of studying law so far.

Black's Law Dictionary is in the nature of law students' Holly Bible. Each law school student should have one !

Had a difficult time looking up words. I didn't think it was user friendly unless it's because I'm new to the field. Could be.

Although this dictionary is not the full version of Black's Law dictionary, it is good to be able to throw in your bag is you want that option. A previous reviewer was right when they said many of the terms have not changed in decades and an older version would do just fine. I have kids and do a lot of reading while waiting at guitar lessons, choir practice, band performances, lunch and break times etc. so this is good to take when I don't want to carry the big daddy version of this dictionary around. I bought this with the newest hardbound full edition so I could have it on the go. Works great for that. If you read most of your materials in the law library of a law school, this will likely be useless for you.

Essential for any 1L

It is in great condition. Glad I chose to purchase this pocket edition, as the original edition is very large and awkward and heavy to care to and from classes. Overall I am happy with this item, would recommend it to others and I know I will be using it quite often. Speedy delivery.

Easy to use, and always good to have around the house.

I have the original Black's hard back and use it consistently in my Paralegal Technologies courses. But because it is sooooo big, I can't take it with me for class. This was the perfect solution. I can take this paper back version to class with out straining my arms and back. What a great asset! I'm now going to see if you have either an epub or pdf version for even greater ease of use.

Every family, or every person should have a copy of this dictionary. It is surprising how much we need to understand law terms.

Well I do have an older copy of this book and this one is missing way too much valuable information.

I'm not a lawyer but I teach sections of law to adult audiences. I bought BLD used and it has been well worth the very modest price.

I don't know where I would be without Black's Law Dictionary. Taking this AAMPLE course introduced me to law terminology I never knew existed and without this dictionary it would have been impossible for me to understand the classes.

i did not like it. because it dtd not have what i thought it would have in it thank you.

I pulled the item from the bubble wrapping it came in and found a gash on the front cover. The damage is immediately next to the title.

Many law students purchase this book because they see other students using it or because they are convinced they'll need it. The problem, however, is that this book has more definitions than most law students will need during 1L. By the time you get to your second and third year, you'll probably use the full version of Black's Law Dictionary for drafting legal documents or law journal articles. It's also not really pocket sized. It's one more book you'll need to fit into your book bag. In my opinion, there are better and less expensive ways to survive 1L without using this book. 1. Use the law library. I borrowed an older edition of this book from our law library during my first semester. I only referred to it a handful of times. Your library probably also has the full desktop version. 2. Purchase a used version of an older edition of this book. The kinds of legal terms you'll need to look up during 1L generally haven't changed for decades. (Or centuries!) 3. Purchase the Random House Webster's Pocket Legal Dictionary. It's a quarter of the price and MUCH more portable--it actually fits in your pocket. It probably has all of the terms you'll need to look up during 1L.

Great book to read and use for doing research!!!

As the title suggests the pocket edition is good for a light weight on the go read. It has a lot of information packed into a small book.

Do not waste your money buying this pocket version, it is better to buy the full edition. There are many commonly used words in Legalese that are there to entrap and trick us; by the corrupt police, the legal fraternity & our corrupt government, who unlawfully use Admiralty Law against us in illegal council magistrates courts, to summarily rob us. The most commonly used words however, are not to be found in this pocket edition; I am sure this is intentional, the 'establishment' do not want you to know the Legalese meanings of these commonly used words. GET THE BIG BOOK!

Excellent book if you are interested in law. Opens ones eyes to the correct meaning of words in the eyes of the law, very handy book to have for reference points. Old saying 'knowledge is power', will come in handy when dealing with bureaucratic people who think they know what they are talking about. Recommend reading unless you wish to be a sheep all your life. Henry C
