The Bible code-the ancient code encrypted in the Bible that may reveal our future-was made known to the world by investigative reporter Michael Drosnin. Now he reveals startling new predictions warning that we may have only three years to stop the countdown to Armageddon. This dramatic account opens on the morning of September 11, 2001, when Drosnin witnessed the attack on the World Trade Center-and then found the terrible event predicted in detail in the 3,000-year-old Bible code. But according to the code, September 11 was only the beginning. The Bible code says we are already in the "End of Days," the Apocalypse foretold by all three major religions of the West. Drosnin has traveled the globe to meet with world leaders to prevent the impending danger-and to search for the "Code Key," a long-buried ancient object that may completely unlock the Bible code, just in time to save our world.

Reviews (112)

His "prophecies" were false.

I have read about and even played with and studied Bible codes through many years. And, I totally love that God has embedded them in the Holy Scriptures, God is fun like that! But, the Bible codes cannot be used to predict things, they can only be used to look up things that have already happened for us, but had not happened at the time the Bible was written. I gave him two stars instead of one because his book does kind of read like a novel. If you can filter through his predictions malarkey, and either focus on the fact that there are awesome hidden messages in the Bible that no man could have put there, or just read it like a fictional novel, then it is an "ok" book.

THE MESSAGE

# Follow… د المطلب ابن هاشم (Abū al-Qāsim Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Hāshim) or just call him, “Muhammad,” an evil madman and lunatic straight to into HELL… # No-peace-upon-him as the doctrine of hatred a web of such deception that only Satan could have invented Islam to destroy all of humankind by proselyting themselves on woven rugs spreading their heresy up to our Heavenly Father and poison the plant earth. Complicated isn’t it to understand this insanity and why is it so confusing, perhaps by evil intent? Such is the thesis of SATAN who so reins over earth to harm, kill and destroy God’s chosen people by the hand of a false and illiterate so-called prophet along with his self-grandees appointed pagan deity called, “Allāh;” to carry out Satan’s evil and instruct the condemned souls with such foolishness as they desire death for Allāh according to Satan’s plan with the promise of a Jihad and to reap the rewards of the 72-virgins. What about the Eves of Islam? Who’s waiting in paradise for these blindly cloaked women who have been diminished to sex slaves on earth for the black hooded Adams’ to carry out their caliphate? Whose grandiose plan is it for this ends of days they so desire? Who’s going to prevail on earth as it is in heaven and who’s forever consigned to the fires of HELL, lest we forget to believe by loss of our faith? A vision came to me in a dream of my moments stood still in time with the beginnings of days until the ends of time.  There was Adam and Eve; a magicka belief of Islam were of God’s human creation, who’ve so fell from grace by sin, expelled from paradise by the temptation of Satan.  There was Noah; a righteous man built an ark to begin again after the great flood by Thy Wrath against the godlessness of pagan worship, again by the hand of Satan. Then God delivered the promise of hope with a rainbow.  There was Abraham; father of two nations and chosen by God. Then came forth by Abraham’s seed, Ishmael from Hagar with the blessing to prosper of other nations. Then came forth by Abraham’s seed, Isaac from Sarai; child of promise begotten for the chosen people, spared from sacrifice to bring forth the new Lamb of promise.  There was Moses; “I Am,” said He, “I Am.” Moses obeyed and the first born male Jewish slaves of Egypt were spared at Passover and freed for 40 years’ times 40 more to live by God’s Commandants of the Covenant until Prophets proclaimed the Son of Man would bring forth the promise and to be saved by Grace.  Yeshua; Son of Man, Lamb of God came forth until the day and time of the end of days in a blink of an eye to fulfil His promise and like a Lion to defeat Satan’s chain of evil on 2/3’s of all mankind for salvation of the remaining and righteous third, for: “I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious rebukes; and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them.” Ezekiel 25:17. Yeshua was and is Perfect forever without end.  Past-present Muhammad, self-proclaimed slave and messenger to a spurious pagan god named Allāh, was purveyor of the nations of Islam and by the translation of Islam is “submission” to Allāh’s and their jointly evil whims to oppress lost souls and bring forth the antichrist to condemn their ilk to the gates of HELL for their final end without beginning. “Taqiyya,” Islamic principle of lying for the sake of Allāh is okay by Satan who is so perfectly happy by this deception because he wrote and created the Qur’an with a fake god in mind to replace the Torah and attempt to destroy the fulfillment of the New Covenant by Grace such as the hoax of the gospel of Barnabas. Satan enlisted Muhammad to follow this sham willingly by greed and conquest. Then Muhammad appointed himself as Allāh’s “holy” messenger to further corrupt, suppress and torment humankind for satanical whims of earthly things while the sado-submissives head-to-toe in pajamas raise their offensive stink up to heaven five times a day with their repetitive and hollow Muslim prayers without beginning or end. What’s the point of all of this madness of a 1400-year-old occult that still thrives? Why not? Satan exists and thrives to despise God’s creation and he is forever consigning the lost souls by man’s freewill to the depths of the lake fires in HELL.

Bible Code II: The Countdown

Michael Drosnin' s three books on the same subject have opened a bottomless pit of knowledge which I have found fascinating and enlightening. These books are to be read with an open mind, and will be of invaluable help to those who are open to bigger and better things - - far beyond and ahead of our limited teachings. You will not be disappointed, as long as you belong to this group of individuals.

If you are at all interested in the Bible you ...

If you are at all interested in the Bible you will be interested to know that there is a Bible Code written by God that can only be accessed by computers. There are three books and a DVD. I bought the DVD and it is facinating! The Bible Code is used by many people in high places.....

approach with caution

Bible Code enthusiasts believe God put hidden messages in the Bible for us to find with a computer, however, when you read this man's book, a whole different picture emerges. He states over and over again that he does not believe in God. Then somewhere towards the end of the book, he tells you what he DOES believe. He believes that the Bible Codes are real, but the Bible and its codes were not written by God, but by an alien intelligence that came to us from another planet in a UFO. AND... He claims that there is a Bible Code Key, a steel obelisk buried beneath the salt encrusted land of the Dead Sea, and it is his goal to find it. This key is supposed to contain all knowledge of humanity and it was brought to earth by aliens in a UFO, the ones who supposedly created us. He states we are destined to find this obelisk when the end times are upon us. Incidentally, the Dead Sea, including the land around it, is geographically the lowest point on earth and is considered by some Christian theologians to be the main gateway to hell. AND... This man is bouncing back and forth between world leaders telling them of his dire predictions, BUT that the predictions are actually just "warnings", and we can work to change the outcomes by working together for peace. When his predictions don't come true, he goes back to the computer program and types in different trigger words until he gets the prediction to say what he wants it to say. Or, he claims that we can somehow manage to avoid making the dire prediction come true by taking defensive action soon enough. He predicted a smallpox epidemic to strike Israel in 2005. That didn't happen. Did anyone take action to prevent it? He predicted a nuclear attack on New York or Israel in 2006 (we have a little over 2 months left in 2006 to see if that one comes true). The test of a true prophecy of God is that it will always come true. I was given the very distinct impression that this man's approach to Bible Codes, using them to predict the future, is the handiwork of Satan, and may prove to be a primary tool of the False Prophet. The book Alien Encounters by Chuck Missler hypothesizes that the Antichrist's arrival will be accompanied by a skyful of UFOs, and the Antichrist will then claim that the raptured (missing) Christians were taken by the UFOs because they need to be "re-educated", and here Drosnin is stating a firm belief in aliens as our creators. God warns against listening to soothsayers, mediums, fortunetellers and the like. This really isn't much different. And why would God use an admitted atheist to minister His prophecies to the world? He wouldn't. Christians should ignore Drosnin's Bible Codes, or, at the very least, approach them with great skepticism. If you have an interest in Bible Codes, stick to the writings of Christians, such as Chuck Missler or the Christian Jewish Minister Yacov Rambsel. I also recommend reading the book Alien Encounters by Missler.

Makes You Think!

This is the second book by Michael Drosnin that I have read (the first being "The Bible Code"), and I must say that I was "pulled in" by both! I honestly could not put either of them down - in fact I read this book in just one night. I think Michael does a good job of making the info. he & Rips have found understandable to all of society - a point I think is of great importance. I've noticed that some other readers didn't care for the way he handled his search for the obelisk, yet I enjoyed the adventure of that part of his book - and if there really is such an object, his would turn out to be a journey much like "Indiana Jones" (hopefully without all of the violence!!) Overall, I started reading his books not sure of what to beleive, and I must say that I am now leaning towards believing that the bible code does, in fact, exist. It's a scarey thought though...

Interesting reading

Lots of interesting facts about how to manipulate the Hebrew text, backwards and forward. I think you could get very compulsive about searching the text, hoping for what you are looking for. The best thing is to get saved and look forward to the return of Jesus.

I wish he would tell us in the Bible where ...

I wish he would tell us in the Bible where he gets hos codes. It would add to the integrity of the book. Also the codes are sometimes too terse. Maybe there are some other relevant words in these codes that he is missing, which would tell their own story.

Still the nagging feeling of truth....

First of all, as I stated in my review of the original book, it would be fairly easy to fool me. I am not a cryptographer, nor a statistician, nor a reader of Hebrew, nor a scholar of the Torah. Yet, after reading this book all the way through, it still has the nagging feeling of truth to it. This would seem to be the "sealed book" mentioned in Isaiah. The author hammers home his warning of atomic terrorism in 2006, as well as, the fact that we are in "the end of days." He also includes the code table that covers all the details of the September 11th attacks. Plus, the other code matrixes dealing with bin Laden are included. He even includes incredibly relevent and accurate matrixes dealing with recent U.S. politics. However, the truly mind boggling revelations deal with what he has found concerning the "code key" and its origins. It may sound too fantastic to be believed, until you reflect that it is in agreement with the published views of Sir Francis Crick, co-discoverer of the DNA helix..... While I have an absolute certainty in my own mind that God exists, I have no use for organized religion, so I have no fundamentalist ax to grind. I have a couple technical degrees and have worked in engineering, so I do not think that I am a totally credulous dupe. I've even obtained the software to test it myself. There is something here. I can't see how anyone with even a half-way open mind can simply dismiss it (unless you are a "fundamentalist" materialist.) Indeed, from what I've read of some of the critical reviews, it is obvious from their statements that the authors have not actually read either book, or if they did, they were incapable of following the technical side of the arguement. As I stated before, if it does turn out that this is an elaborate hoax it will not shake my beliefs. However, if you do concede that it exists, then some detailed soul searching would seem to follow of necessity....

Excellent Book!

I LOVE this series of books! I, II, & III were all excellent in their explantaion of how these predictions were found, & WHY they are profound. They are self proving because no matter if the prediction is found before or after the event, they are ALWAYS ACCURATE! And the existance of the Code also proves Sir Issac Newton truly WAS a genius & not some religious fanatic!

THE BIBLE CODE IS REAL, ALL FACTS

Disappointment with Bible Code II

I am disappointed, probably because I was spoiled with Bible Code I. The author did far less work here, reducing the quality of the book and confidence in the data. It's a pleasant enough read, I just felt robbed compared to his earlier work.

as advertised

I'm still reading Bible Code I. Bible Code II is as advertised. It was in great condition. Shipped in an appropriate package in shipped quickly. Very satisfied with this seller!

Get this one and you will enjoy reading it!

Excellent book and one that is well worth reading. You will really like this book just as I did and will not regret getting it..

It is a great concept, and one I have sometimes thought about ...

The Bible Code looks into the possibility of time travel, the creation of mankind and the Torah. It does not eliminate God nor lessens God' role in creation, but instead suggests God could be an Alien from an advanced race who came here to advance man. It is a great concept, and one I have sometimes thought about since I was a kid. How about you ? J.D'Ambrosia

An easy read with plenty of wow factor

As a news reporter Mr. Drosnin explains complicated ideas well and gives a lot of reason to have a better faith in the Giver of Scripture.

different

it is another different take on puzzles in the bible, and related writings

Three Stars

Good book

Five Stars

great read cannot put down.

Interesting reading

Good book.

A Mathematical Look at the Future

Excellent! Makes the scientific/mathematical mind "see" how the Hebrew Bible is not only a history of mankind but foretells of events that will occur in days to come.

Not easy to read buddy

Its not that easy to read this kind of book, if you don't have interest pls don't try, you will sure keep this book down in few pages

Entertaining if nothing else

Bible Code II's premise is straightforward and simple: encoded in the original texts of the Bible, specifically the books making up the Torah, are a series of codes that predict future events. Drosnin's book explores the evidence supporting this thesis and along the way provides a good brush up on recent events in and geography of the Middle East. While the current events discussion is valuable if you haven't been paying a whole lot of attention to the conflicts there, the evidence for the Bible code (or at least this version of it) is questionable. Drosnin never explains his methodology in depth, so understanding how some results were achieved becomes a little difficult. The conclusions he draws from those results also tend to be tailored to what actually happened in real life, even though entirely different conclusions could have been reached with the same results. Sources for other information he brings to the table aren't always specifically named, so finding them to verify what he says is another issue. Drosnin doesn't reveal predictions for the future aside from a statement that terrorists will launch attacks from a base. First of all, terrorism is a tactic and not a nation or tangible object. As such, it will exist forever so the idea that terrorists will have a base and launch an attack from it is hardly rocket science. He then declines to name the base, and in the chapter notes he says he intentionally left it out. That's nice, but if this code is real then he should take the time to be more specific regarding other future events. Instead, it's the only future event he names aside from saying the world may end in 2006. Everything else he names already happened. He also says what's encoded is just one possibility out of many. If he's wrong, all he has to do is point back to that and say we averted the future he claims he saw. Despite the problems with the code, the book is an entertaining read. It's short, it's to the point, and the concept is certainly intriguing. As I said earlier, Drosnin's explanation also includes background on recent events and information on major players who had some kind of role in those events, giving Bible Code II at least some of the legitimacy it otherwise lacks.

Another Good Read - But weak science.

. Summary: Again, like his first book (see my previous review) this is an area that can produce great fruit, but unfortunately, Drosnin really does the entire study a great disservice with his poor research, explanations and examples. Drosnin follows up his first book with the same interesting presentation, but baseless science. And, while he continues his attempt to portray himself as an objective reviewer, he is anything but that. If he came to me with his unquestionably correct information, like he continues to go to others, I would not listen to him either. And, I am a believer in the codes. My perception of his writing it similar to when I read a newspaper story about an incident that I know a lot about...somehow newspaper writers only get the straight forward facts about 60% correct; with their conclusions generally fully deficient. Well, Drosnin is a good newspaper reporter and does not disappoint those statistics! True Background: Rabbi Eliyahu Rips published one of the most arduously peer reviewed statistical analyses of all time. (Rips, et al, "Equidistant Letter Sequences in the Book of Genesis," Statistical Science, The Institute of Mathematical Statistics, August, 1994.) This publication revealed that the TORAH (the first 5 books of Moses - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy) had the property to be analyzed via recent computer technology to reveal significant information that is very highly improbable. Note: These properties have not really been proven for the rest of the bible, although the other books have some extra-ordinary and unique properties that are well beyond chance. There is no question of the stats. They exist and have been fully accepted by experts who really could not accept the premise. Unfortunately, (or, fortunately) the premise and statistics are correct, and those experts (including some hefty cryptographers) readily acceded that in wonderment. In my own quest to test the subject, I purchased the software and found some interesting things. And, found the items demonstrated by Rips and others, proving that they did not just make this up. But, I am not a statistician, so I simply accept the profound conclusions presented by the experts in that journals publication. Book Review: When I got the book at the airport, I was again excited. I thought he might have put more effort into this one and thus have made it more plausible. I read most of it on the plane home, and a flight attendant spoke to me about it saying, " I wish he really put some real information in there. I believe in the subject, but I can't accept his work." If I did not do my other research, I would have concluded that this entire area is very weak and somewhat full of baloney. And, that is the problem with Drosnin's second book. Thus while it is interesting and easy to read and understand, he doesn't back anything up. I tried to pursue some of his findings, but could not obtain them. It would have been great if he gave more information so these things could be confirmed beyond his repeated statement that Rabbi Rips declares the finding to be highly unique and improbably. FYI: To date, I have never found anything written, or presented by Rips to confirm Drosnin's persistent relationship and testing. But that does not mean it did not exist. Drosnin could have shared some very specific information: Specifically what software did he use? Where did he find these specific codes? What process did he use to find the conjoined hidden codes? What bible text did he use? Etc. Also, his index if very weak and unsupportive, and his reference section is hard to follow with the text. Recommendation: If you question this subject, but want to find the truth, go someplace else. Read Missler's book on "Cosmic Codes" It has much more explanation, research and basis. You can substantiate his presentations (with just a little effort). If you have already done you homework on this subject, then get this book because it is interesting. If you got this book, or are getting it, and want to read it, but wanted to find truth, then, please take Drosnin's work with a grain of salt as you would in reading any New York Times article. He is just a reporter, and by far NOT an expert! Finally, if you are like Drosnin, don't try to interpret and explain the bible without reading it. That is just plain ignorant and dangerous. Final Point: Drosnin presents the final atomic conflict arising out of the failed middle east peace efforts. I really don't think anyone needs a prophecy to see that one coming. Perhaps idealists may "prefer" to look at it that way, but very few realists view the millenia old hatred as something that can be swept away with economic development, or by swapping land for peace. For every Muslim (middle eastern) I have spoken to, it is not the location of Israel, it is their existence that is problematic. Peace treaties are therefore only opportunities for war, not a solution for war.

Why a Sequel to "The Bible Code"? To Update Predictions of Soon-to-Be (Maybe) World Events!

"Bible Code II: The Countdown" is a sequel to the bestselling "The Bible Code". I notice that this sequel says, on one of the first few pages, "Copyright @ One Honest Man, Inc., 2002". I guess the author, Michael Drosnin, has a sense of humor. While I don't question the author's basic honesty, I do think he tends to sensationalize and exaggerate a bit occasionally. Mainly this happens when he is using the code in the Bible (Old Testament) to predict future world-shaking events like an "atomic holocaust". The predictions sometimes do come true, but just as often they do not. Mr. Drosnin feels the code predicts probablilities, not necessarily certainties in all cases, which we can sometimes influence or change by our own actions. For example, the author writes, "According to the Bible code, we might really face the ultimate danger, a nuclear World War, in 2006" (p. 21). This was written in 2002 or a little earlier (since the book was published in 2002), and when I first read "Bible Code II" in 2003, I got worried. But now that 2006 is gone and past, and no worldwide nuclear has happened, I feel like I was too gullible. Anyway, as for the subject matter of this book--what it is about--much of the book is taken up with trying to use the Bible code to locate some sort of hidden "decoder-stone", which the author believes is buried somewhere near the eastern side of the Dead Sea. The decoder-stone would open the Bible code fully to our understanding. So far, only the surface of the code has been scratched, according to Drosnin. One interesting twist in this search for a decoding-stone is that, according the author's computerized decoding of the Bible code, such a decoding-stone obelisk is stored in a container made of iron or steel. But iron or steel rusts quickly when in contact with soil moisture, and since according to the Code, the decoding stone obelisk is buried near the Dead/Salt Sea, the ground is very moist in that area. However, as the author eventually learned, "'It's true that water rusts, and that salt accelerates corrosion...but if the concentration of salt is very high,....35 percent salt in water, the oxygen drops very quickly. Without oxygen, there is no rust'" (p. 122). It turns out that the salt concentration near the Dead Sea is above 35%. (In fact, this body of water is "a sea so salty that nothing could live in it, which is why it was called the Dead Sea" [p. 122].) While the author does not discover the underground decoding-stone in "Bible Code II", it still was a fascinating part of the story, for me. Much of this book is also taken up with current-day military and government affairs, especially wars and assassinations in the Middle East. Some predictions come true, many others do not. One additonal topic in the book that caught my interest was the chapter titled "Alien". Author Drosnin feels that the Bible code reveals that the code itself was implanted in the Scripture by beings from elsewhere, or "aliens" of some sort, arriving in a "spaceship". While I do not doubt the reality of an ancient code in the Bible which predicts future important world events, and those predictions come true more often than chance would allow, I also feel "Bible Code II" seems sometimes to go beyond the evidence a little bit, and indulges in speculation on occasion. (On the other hand, I believe the circumstantial evidence for a nonhuman intelligence existing since before humankind evolved on Earth...is substantial. And as for who or what beings put the code in the pages of the Hebrew sacred scriptures, I concur with the author's conclusion that it was not a Supreme Diety directly, but rather lesser--yet still much more intelligent than us earthlings--beings who we may as well call nonterrestrials or 'aliens' from other dimensions/realms of reality.) In summary, in spite of the melodrama, such as exemplified by the subtitle, "The Countdown" (countdown to some earth-shaking future event like 'Armageddon', the war to end all wars), I enjoyed this "scientific-detective" story, and recommend it to anyone interested in the Bible, or current world events (especially in the Middle East), or in solving puzzles or using computers to crack codes. Or just interested in both science and religion. I also recommend the following books, on related subjects. "The Stones Cry Out" is about archeologists digging up ancient ruins of cities mentioned in the Bible, and how the archeological finds confirm the Bible as historically accurate and reliable. "Eyewitness to Jesus" tells the story about the investigation, using modern cutting-edge technology, of a fragment of Matthew's gospel which the authors re-date to before 70 AD, earlier than ever before. A kind of scientific detective story, sometimes a bit technical but overall readable for any educated, motivated person. "Brother of Jesus" is another who-dun-it combining religion and science. It is about an ancient limestone bural box, unearthed just outside Jerusalem, which bears the inscripton, "James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus". The updated/revised edition is the most complete edition. On a more distantly related topic, I was deeply interested in "The Miracle Detective: An Investigaton of Holy Visions" by journalist Randall Sullivan. It describes his travels to explore three major modern visions-apparitions-appearances of the mother of Jesus, Mary. For both Catholics and non-Catholics (and perhaps even of interest to non-believers, since Mary as a feminine figure is less threatening than the male figures of Jesus, or God [the Father, for those who conceptualize the Diety as a heavenly 'Father' figure]). I ('Christopher Theophilus', the writer of this review) have reviewed all four of the above books. In addition, for deeper insight into "Bible Code II", I especially recommend reading my review of the original book "The Bible Code", since much of what I wrote there holds true for "Bible Code II: The Countdown", as well.

I should have seen it coming it was in the code....

The Bible Code II is the reason I will probably never buy the Bible Code III. If only we had known what the bible code was telling us we could have prevented [fill in Blank] including 9/11. Seriously, Apocalypse in the Bible. There is a whole book of the Bible dedicated to the end of the world, and several prophets scattering info on it throughout the Old Testament. The Bible discusses the rise and fall of Kings, the conquests of lands, destruction of Temples, Murders, Plagues and all sorts of bad happenings. There is a good chance if you play word jumble with it, you can find some matching subject matter to destruction of the world. I was disappointed in this book, I don't know what I was expecting, but this was a rant instead of a book. It felt more like a scifi novel... if we can only decode the last piece we could save the world...

Hal Lindsay Meets Erich Von Daniken

In my review of Drosin's first nonsensical tome, "The Bible Code," I stated that it was pure science fiction. Drosnin has proven my point in his follow-up. He states, glibly and without the slightest hint of embarrassment, that the Bible Code "proves" that both the Code itself and the human DNA code was delivered to the earth billions of years ago by an alien vessel made of steel, and that that vessel still exists in the Jordanian salt plains of the Dead Sea, along with obelisks that hold the key to "decoding" the Bible Code. This is all "proven" by Drosnin by his own interpretation of the Bible Code. Self-fulfilling prophesy? Or the rantings of an over-wrought imagination? In order to prove his theory he quotes *one* scientist, a man who published a paper in the 1970s claiming that our DNA was brought here by aliens. This is enough confirmation for Drosnin, evidently. Don't look for references or footnotes reinforcing his crackpot ideas - they don't exist. However, he does put in a chapter that purports to be substantiation to his writings, but upon closer examination they are nothing more than out-takes from the body of the book. How disturbing that people believe this nonsense. The Bible is God's Word to mankind. It clearly states that God created the universe. So, how is it possible for the Bible "Code" to contradict this by stating that man is the result of some alien "ark"? Also, Drosnin commits the unpardonable sin of apocalyptic writers: he reveals a date for the "End Times", which, he states, is indicative of the coming of the Messiah. The Bible clearly states that no one knows this date, except the Father. Even Jesus does not know it. So how can Drosnin? This is the same mistake Hal Lindsay made in the 1970s when he said Jesus would return by 1986. So, we all have to wait until 2006, when the earth will be destroyed by an atomic halocaust, according to the Code. I'll meet you all in 2007 for a toast. Pick the place and time....

For it's Artfulness

The writer comes off as being quite crazy. He suggests maybe aliens put the code in the book a few times, and that's cool, that's his unique spin, but I had to do a double-take. I thought this was just a rushed out Sept11th book, but there's more to it than that, this man has been obsessed with this code for a long time and the content bears this out. There may be something of a Bible Code (there is some 'code' to every big book), but it is stretched to every little recent event. He also claims Sept. 11th as the start of the Apocalypse. The little stories inbetween are very amusing, quite fun, I appreciate the artfulness whether the claims are true, or not. I wish they would print in english the words the codewords are printed by. Often, he has one pic of 2 words he found, then on the next page, he has the same pic repeated, this time with one word added, it's wasteful and manipulative, but I can't help but appreciate how it really adds to the drama of it all, this bizarre, exciting, real-life fantasy of one man supposedly playing a role in the apocalypse from computer screen to the Dead Sea and gaining the attention of Presidents for it, we even have a clever old man to function as sensei. The one reason why I do not completely discount the claim is because these 'codewords' are found so close together (as you can plainly see on the cover) I assume that with War And Peace codewords you wouldn't find words like that so near and placed by text that suits the codewords so well. The writer never forgets to remind us how he's 'secular' and all that...well, this same guy is taking vacations of Lesin alone in his spare time, claiming we're in the Endtimes. Now, 'In the end', it won't change your personal view like reading the Bible might. It will however entertain, but it will not prove the existence of God...or Aliens, as the case may be.

Interesting as a diletant introduction

This book is not supposed to convince you to believe in the Bible Code (although it tries) for the simple reason that it is written by the journalist, not scientist, that doesn't understand much about this field. At the same time, it seems the the author is ardent believer in Bible code theory. I am also not a scientist. Some points look fascinating, some very questionable (but what do I know). In any case, to form any real opinion about the subject we have to look in many mathematical aspects of those findings. Maybe some people will want to look closer into scientific foundation of the author' claims and this by itself will make this book worth a few stars. For me the book provides a very interesting glimpse into Middle Eastern politics, reveals interesting touches about the characters of some of people that have been play playing important part in this development.

Food for the Gullible

I received this book as a Christmas present and after having read it am still not sure about one basic aspect. Is the author honestly deluded or is he perpetuating a hoax for the sake of money? It has been amply shown that any book can be massaged to come up with any meaning one wants. The basic assumption that the Bible was written in its current form 3000 years ago is untenable and since Hebrew writings contained originally no vowels there is no limit to which one can let one's fantasy roam to detect the words and their meanings one wants to ascribe to them. One small example: I don't know Hebrew but I do know that "obelisk" is not a Hebrew word. It comes comes from the Greek where it stands for "spit," a sharp tipped object. To read modern meanings into ancient writings shows naivetee to say the least. The problem with the book is that some people will not only be impressed by the message but may act on it. Just as some Christians and Jews try to hasten the arrival of the Messiah on the basis of ancient Jewish and Christian apocalyptic writings. The world is a sufficiently dangerous place and instead of inciting more fear we should advise our leaders, and writers, both here and abroad to move cautiously and not let tragedies like 9/11 and others which may yet come stampede us into massive retaliatory actions. If the author reads this I would encourage him to contact me because there are better ways to help this world than what he has tried to do.

Dorsin used unscientific methods!!!!!

I received this book yesterday and could not pout it down, I finished it today. I love these kind of things, secret codes in the Bible. Prophecy of feature events, Its all very fascinating, and it may very well be true. I will reserve judgment on weather its true or not, Maybe I will wait to see if the prediction of a Small Pox attack in 2005 in Israel takes place; It even has the number of how many will die 14,700. But I must admit, I am leaning toward accepting the code as truth. The correlation between what past events, that have been predicted in the Code, which have come true and the likely reality of the feature predictions, to come true, are very convincing. If all that happened, I would be totally convinced there is a code. Where I completely disagree with Drosnin is in is conclusion that the Bible Code came from an alien, I am with DR Rips, if it does exists its from God. Dorsnin is asking a lot from an advance human like alien, to know all of time, that's all knowing. Something God can only have. I think Dorsnin is running from God and he is not asking all the right Questions. He should ask how to obtain salvation He should ask about the Anti Christ, the ten nation confederacy at the end times. He should also learn the Prophecy's that are in the plain text of the Bible better, many of them agree with what he is finding about the end of days. But having said all that I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I hope Drosnin meets the code Maker and accepts him as Lord and savior, He will be coming back soon if the code is correct. more I have now done farther study of Bible codes and Have found out that dorsin used unscientific methods in his book, not much would hold up to scientific or statistical study hear. So I would recommend instead you read R. Edwin Sherman's Book Bible code bombshell instead.

Dare we risk ignoring this book?

I have read both of Michael Drosnin's Bible Code books and am left unconvinced and full of questions. Even if one can accept the theory that the Hebrew text of the Torah was given to Moses by an alien being from a far more advanced culture, who not only gave us information that would change according to our technical advancement, but altered human DNA to give us the genes for speech, among other attributes; even if one can accept that Dr. Frances Crick (the Nobel Prize Winner who, with Dr. James Watson, discoved the double-helix structure of the DNA molecle) firmly believes the alien genetics theory, it is still hard to believe. After reading both books with a very critical eye, I ended up still skeptical, but unable to dismiss the information as presented. I would like to know what President Clinton thought about the Bible Code when he read it. (Actually, the author states that President Clinton had the book with him at Camp David; he does not say whether Mr. Clinton read it or not.) It would be very helpful to ask someone who has studied the Torah in its original format if he thinks the results exhibited in this book are simply statistical sleight-of-hand, and that these arrays of Hebrew text could be manipulated to say anything one wanted to say; or, if it does seem to be the case that the "decoded" words are actual messages. The author frequently repeats himself and often overdramatizes events, even though he identifies himself as a "reporter", not a novelist. If the facts are strong and clear, he should not need to use such methods. Thus, I am aware that my somewhat negative reaction may be a response to the personality and writing style of the author, and not the substance of the book itself. It is my personal opinion that many, many people ought to takes this book seriously enough to do more investigation about it, because if the warnings and messages are even partly true, our species and our planet are in deep, deep trouble. It seems irresponsible of us not to take it seriously enough to study these theories, however implausible they may seem. I would be delighted if we survive long enough to look back in 20 years and laugh at it, but this book leaves me wondering if anyone will be here then.

Monkeys' Random Typing Results in NY Times Bestseller!

This book is extremely disturbing, but not because it claims to use secret messages in the Hebrew Bible to predict nuclear holocaust in the year 2006. The upsetting part is that any human being would write such worthless drivel and try to pass it off as truth. Even more disturbing is that this second book, like Drosnin's first, will probably be another top bestseller for months to come. As I read this book, I kept thinking of a line uttered by Superman's arch-enemy Lex Luthor in the 1978 motion picture version of "Superman": "Some people can read 'War and Peace' and come away thinking it's a simple adventure story. Others can read the ingredients on a chewing gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe." In Bible Code 2, Drosnin has stared long enough at a chewing gum wrapper, and, by applying mathematical skip sequences enhanced by his laptop PC, has determined that aliens landed on earth billions of years ago and brought with them the DNA code that now characterizes all creatures on earth -- and that they embedded secret messages in the Hebrew Bible (that could only be found by computers in the late 1990s) containing warnings about a terrorist nuclear attack on Jerusalem in 2006 that will trigger World War III. Give us a break! If the first book's science and mathematics (which have been since debunked by nearly every major scientist and mathematician) were bad, you ain't seen nothing yet. Even many proponents of hidden mathematical codes in the Hebrew Bible have expressed alarm at the incredible conclusions that Drosnin draws from the most unscholarly and poorly-conceived attempts to apply mathematics to find secret messages in the Torah. By the end of this book, the reader grows weary of Drosnin's description of all his many failed attempts to contact key heads of state, including U.S. Presidents Clinton and Bush. It's no wonder that of all the heads of state he attempted to meet with, only kooky-bird Yassir Arafat agreed. I can just imagine how President Bush must roll his eyes when an aide tells him that Michael Drosnin is on the line. Please, if you want to read far more captivating yet scientifically unsound theories about the possible extraterrestrial origin of life on earth, read Erich von Däniken's work. He, at least, put together better prose.

NEW COVER, SAME FLAWS AS THE HARD BACK

Why a new cover design for an old book that was already flawed? Bible Code III would have been published by now if this book did not have so many problems. Drosnin's first Bible Code books got me so fired up about the possibility of a predictive Code that I actually quit my teaching job in Florida, and ran over to Israel and Egypt on a related expedition in 1999 (and again in 2005). Why? He claimed the future of the world, including an atomic holocaust, is encoded in Torah. As a U.S. military planner with Hebrew skills, I wanted to know if his predictions were valid. It seemed to me that if the Code were real, its most vital secret would be the location of the Ark. In 2008 I concluded that any idea of a general predictive Code needs to be modified in accordance with Talmudic principles and the concept of Free Will. Not everyone will find their name in the Bible Code. Further, Drosnin's original atomic holocaust warnings were neither statistically significant, nor accurate. In Bible Code II, Drosnin gets hung up looking for the key to the Bible Code. He thinks it's in Lisan, Jordan (the Dead Sea area). But his supporting matrices are not significant. Nor did they include any requirement for course angles between places named to match what is seen on real world maps. In my own ARK CODE book, also available on Amazon.Com, you will fund redundant encoded maps that strongly suggest where Jeremiah hid the Ark of the Covenant when he was forced into exile in Egypt, near where local Bedouins believe Moses split the sea at Lake Bardawil. As for the Code Key that Drosnin sought, I have found matrices to indicate that he should have sought Baal Zephon (mentioned in Exodus 14:2; 14:9. and Numbers 33:7) for this purpose. The coordinates of interest for it are at 31-16 North, 33-03.5 East. HOW MOST BIBLE CODE MAPS ARE ENCODED. Key site names are encoded in such manner as to have the angles between Jerusalem, Egyptian towns or sites, and the suspect Ark site, at 31-9 North, 33-4 East, exactly correspond to actual course headings on real world maps. The purpose of my book and web site has been to document these maps (found by myself and by Dr. Robert Haralick of the City University of New York Computer Science Graduate Studies Department), and to help facilitate actions required to investigate the site (and, of course - recover the Ark if it's there). ARK CODE not only summarizes the ELS Maps I've found, but it also explores the expeditions I've taken to Egypt and meetings that I held with the Egyptian Government for the specific purpose of preventing the war that Drosnin warned about. There is still a good case for some predictive capability in the Torah Code, but you really have to master basic principles of statistics found in ARK CODE before running out to place any bets based on a Torah Code matrix. Drosnin supposedly has a Bible Code III book coming out, but the entire market for Bible Code books has largely dried up because he made so many wrong predictions. The future is not hard wired. If anything, actions that Drosnin took in meeting with Middle East politicians may have altered our time line and caused the world we live in to be so different from what he thought was encoded. If you must buy any Bible Code book from Drosnin, get his first book as a starting point, and note the divergence from what he predicted there for yourself. But if you really want to understand how the Code appears to work, and learn how to determine the statistical significance of a Bible Code matrix, buy ARK CODE.

An atheist attempts to warn us of Armageddon

I bought the very first "Bible Code" book by Michael Drosnin when it came out years ago, because I've always had a hunch that there might be some very interesting mathematical properties concerning the Bible texts. In the first book, Drosnin demonstrated beyond any shadow of doubt that there are some fascinating properties in the Old Testament biblical texts --they seem to have some incredibly detailed information about various past historical events and people, and there seems to be the ability to determine future events as well. This information is encoded in skip sequences through out the biblical texts. While one could scan "Moby Dick" or "War and Peace" and probably find the names of all the presidents of the United States encoded within, you would NOT be able to find their names, the dates of the births, the dates of their deaths, and the names of the cities where they were born, all within the same short section of text. Most likely, you would find information scattered in a random fashion throughout the texts, if you found any correlation's at all. But for some inexplicable reasons, significant dates, information and names all appear encoded in extremely close proximity to each other in the biblical texts. The reason Drosnin has written a sequel to the first book is to warn of an event that is slated to take place in 2006, which may have dire consequences for the entire planet. According to Drosnin, "Bush," "Arafat," "Sharon," "Barak," "Peace," "End of Days" "World War" "Atomic Holocaust" "In the End of Days" are all encoded and crossed referenced with the same year: 2006. Drosnin believes that the Bible code is attempting to war us of an impending "atomic holocaust" which will take place in 2006, and it will be directly related to the currents troubles and tribulations we are now experiencing in the Middle East. He believes so strongly in this prediction, that he has gone to great lengths to warn all of the people mentioned in the encoding: Bush, Arafat, Sharon and Barak. However, only Arafat has taken the time to meet personally with Drosnin, to discuss the coming nuclear annihilation, and the fact that the Bible Code also clearly predicts that Arafat will be assassinated by members of Hamas! (You heard it here first, folks.) Of course Arafat already knew this was a very likely scenario, but was happy to have the Bible code confirm his suspicions. Though Bush, Barak, Sharon and Clinton have not met with Drosnin personally, he has met with people on their staffs, and has briefed them on the prediction in the bible code of an atomic holocaust in 2006. Of particular interest is the reaction of Dan Meridor, an Israeli cabinet member in charge of preparing for non-conventional terrorist attacks: "We already knew this was a probability", said Meridor. "And we already knew these years--2005, 2006--are the probabilities." In other words, the Bible code is only confirming what Israeli intelligence had already determined through normal intelligence analysis. The Bible code doesn't have any information to tell us how to prevent this possible catastrophe, and so the Israelis didn't really find the coded warning all that useful. And so it goes, lots of interesting encoded warnings about dire events that have already been taken into serious consideration by those involved. So even though the "warnings" are a day late and a dollar short, it at least seems to further validate the code's reliability. This would be a good book if the validity of the bible codes were the only item on the agenda, but Drosnin; an admitted liberal, atheist Jew; has no problem incorporating his ideology into every single page of the book, which is very unfortunate for those us who are not of his particular faith --or lack thereof. Yes, all the typical left-wing, atheist talking points have been incorporated into this book. Items mentioned include how Bush stole the election from Gore, (and the bible codes confirms it!), the "seeding" of our planet with DNA by aliens from another world, the greatness of our past president, Bill Clinton, the wonders that were Israeli prime-ministers Rabin and Peres; and how the secret iron obelisk will unravel the secrets of the Bible code once it is found somewhere in Lisan, Jordan, near the shore of the Dead Sea. Drosnin's unrelenting mixture of his ideological beliefs with the facts of the Bible code and current events makes for very challenging and exasperating reading. He's a very good writer, but the unrelenting liberal viewpoints and atheistic theology get tiring very quickly. It is with great mystery and wonder that a person like Drosnin can be convinced of the validity of the bible codes, and yet absolutely refuse to believe that there was a God who created them. So the encoded information in the Bible is very believable, but the plain text testifying of a God who inspired these texts is a farce? One cannot help but to begin to think that Drosnin has some secret special agenda in his unrelenting belief that there is no God, since any normal person would be convinced beyond any reasonable doubt long ago, as was his friend; the great mathematician Eliyahu Rips; who first discovered the bible's encoding of detailed information. Personally, I do hope Drosnin finds the iron obelisk with the key to unraveling the Bible code. And I do pray that the atomic holocaust in 2006 does not take place. Fortunately, the "end of days" predictions are general enough that they can be avoided, or, at least, perhaps wrong conclusions were made given the scant information. Yet I'm anxiously awaiting the proof of this prediction, and I'm afraid it may come to pass.

Not my type of book

I'll be the first to admitt that I know precious little about encrypting and decrypting codes, but I know that I definately don't believe this book. This is pure pop-psychology, science fiction to me. To be fair, I think the author really believes what he is writting and believes that through skip code sequence, one can uncover hidden messages in the origenal hebrew Torah. Mabey he's right and I'm wrong about this, but I don't believe any of the things he's claiming to uncover through this code, (things like aliens planting life on earth thousands of years ago, ect.) Furthermore, I've been told by two different people who are also experienced in this field that random code words can be found in any source of literatue using the skip-code method that's being used. I think that one would do better to read the Bible for its external message and learn from it. If however you don't share this view, then you may get more out of this book then I did, so I don't want to totally debunk it. It reminded me of the movie "Stargate."

I hope this is real - wait, no I dont

No matter if you believe the code is real or not, this is a fascinating read. For myself , I am not yet convinced either way, but why COULDN'T it be true? Regardless, the book is certainly entertaining, and an easy read. It certainly has caused me to do further research, and I am fascinated at the possibility of it being true. It sort of feels like a Dan Brown novel, but always has you looking over your shoulder for the "got ya!" that says its all a hoax. If you are looking for absolutes, and the answers to Life the Universe, and Everything, this is not it. But if you appreciate the study of possibilities, and are as interested in the technical side of codes and cryptograms, you will enjoy this book.

Entertainment

Being authoritative enough to convince people in the writing business is essential and Drosnin does that and he has "experts" to back him up, but why do we need a code anyway? A little bit of research and you'll find that all these ideas about the future are already out there. There is no doubt the world is going to hell in a hand-basket. Mankind has always been on the brink of war or at war, continuously. Nothing new and few will be surprised if we blow each other up. Books like these are just another way to generate an income for both writer and publisher while the going is good - they can't lose if wrong because the money's already been made and author's always can leave themselves a back door, in this case something like a catch-22 phrase inferring more than one possible future, etc., etc. to cover themselves. Ultimately this books sells fear. This is a market rich in opportunities these days. We need more books on practical solutions to the human problem. The book is sensationalism trying to be serious. If one considers themselves a genuine Christian, this subject is useless to waste time over.

The OBVIOUS CODE could be a title

Who is the encoder of the Bible Code? God! The author says that, yet refuses to acknowledge that. The author describes himself as one who doesn't believe in God yet writes that God told Moses what to write. Thus, Mr. Drosnin should become a believer -- at least in what he writes. Drosnin is a reporter... he wants hard facts! If he was a believer like Dr. Eliyahu Rips -- a prize-winning mathematication who's a devout Jew and the founder of the Bible Code -- he would know he has hard facts. Instead, Drosnin spends his time making observations of the obvious -- that the world has nukes and terrorists could use them -- and writing countless letters to leaders who file them away. Drosnin is cashing in on Dr. Rips work by following his knowledge of the Code for all it's worth. It's probably been worth millions by now. I can't wait for after 2006 when Code III is released. That's the year to watch out, says Drosnin, who will probably find new codes to excuse his findings from this work. What I learned from this book is that: 1) iron/metal won't rust in the Dead Sea because of the density of salt and lack of oxygen ... 2) many of Israel's leaders and/or higher powers are secular, or non-believers in God, or don't let Drosnin know they are ... 3) Arabs believe -- like common knowledge has let most Westerners suspect that some Arabs can be terrorists and Israeli leaders actually act like Westerners knew they really acted ... 4) I wish I could read ancient Hebrew to understand the text of the many, many, many charts presented to fill pages ... and 5) I got ripped off for the purchase price of this book. In the 1st volume, Bible Code I, Drosnin made his money by finding in the code a year in advance that former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin would be assassinated during 1995. He warned Rabin, who really didn't take action. What was Rabin supposed to do, spend the year in a bunker? Rabin was a leader in the peace process! After Rabin's death Drosnin finally finds the assassin's name in the Code, etc. Yadda yadda yadda... Drosnin also spent a bunch of space on the comet hitting Jupiter. That was informative, perhaps the best part in the overall perspective. Here in Code 2 he spends a bunch of time repeating himself over and over, and telling us how he burdened a bunch of world leaders by telling them in letter form and bothering their higher aides the obvious -- that war could be destructive, regardless of how starts it, that terrorists can get nukes thanks to the Soviet empire's meltdown. Editing here isn't that great. One paragraph identifies Dr. Rips first as Rips, then at Eli Rips and finally as Dr. Eli Rips. That's known in journalism as the inverted pyramid inverted. If Drosnin ever gets to start his dig for "the code key buried in Lisan," I'm sure he will find it saying something like "Jesus saves." I got that idea from somewhere in the Bible. I believe it was called prophecy. If only Drosnin was a believer, then ... but he's not. He claims he's a journalist and wants hard facts. LOL!!! Him, all the way to the bank... me, in my living room with his book!

“I don’t believe in God”?

Drosnin seems unclear on what the “Bible code” really means. Drosnin told TV host Oprah Winfrey, “I am entirely secular. I don’t believe in God.” This is written by an atheist for fame and profit. How cold I possibly recommend this book?

Pathetically naïve and childish

I must preface my comments by stating that I have not read Drosnin's first book. I bought his second book after hearing a cocktail conversation about it that quickly became polarized. 1. My fist observation is that his second book does not explain at all the significance of finding specific words or sentences in close proximity within sections of the Torah. Why is this relevant? Why would anyone believe that such appearances compose a code? It would appear therefore that this book cannot be read independently from Drosnin's first. 2. Drosnin repeateldy claims that he is not religious and nothing but a reporter -- someone who is looking for the hard facts, despite the fact that he acknowledges not being versed in the mathematics of code breaking. Well, for someone who claims to be taking an objective tack, it is disconcerting that he has not taken a more objective and scientific approach and sought alternative explanations for the fantastic findings presented in his book. Has he explored whether the 'code-cracking' method underlying the book can lead to spurrious findings, in the sense that it may find similar or contradictory findings in other famous books? 3. For someone who was a Washington Post and a Wall Street Journal reporter, by seeking to personally meet with Prime Minister Sharon and President Bush to warn them of the dire prospects 'prophesized' by his code, he betrays incredible naïveté about how governments and important leaders work. One only wishes that the world situation was so calm and peaceful that these leaders would have the time to spend with people like Drosnin. 4. Last, the book does not offer any solution for the doomsday he is trying to warn us against. Even kids are aware that the situation in the Middle East is so dangerous that it may lead to the complete annihilation of that region. To avoid that horrible scenario peace, the Israelies and Palestinians and the entire world know that they need to reach peace. What his book does not deal with is that the major source of risk today in that area of the world is coming from religious Muslim and Jewish fundamentalists who do not fear death and who would likely welcome the Apocalypse prophesized by the Koran and Torah.

Here's what's wrong with this book

1) The book's theme is that the end of the world is nigh (2006), so our hero author must travel the world and get everyone to understand that the Middle East conflict must be resolved so that the PREDICTIONS OF THE BIBLE CODE DO NOT COME TO PASS. That's right. Without ever explaining why, he concludes that the code's message is just a warning and that we can change it. He even says that it encodes all possible outcomes. If that's the case then it is utterly meaningless, since an infinite number of false futures would be encoded. This claim is totally at odds with the book's theme. According to the author, there is only one year where the words "End of Days", "nuclear holocaust", etc, are encoded with a year: 2006. So does that mean that if we can avoid self-destruction in 2006, then humanity is saved for eternity from nuclear holocaust. Obviously, the more rational conclusion is that the code, if it is real, is absolutely written in stone, and the holocaust will occur on schedule in 2006, notwithstanding the heroic globetrotting our the author. 2) It's political. Arafat is a warm fellow and a true believer, Sharon is a war monger, and George Bush stole the election from poor Al Gore. His political bias is incredibly transparent. 3) He wonders out loud whether the aliens that planted our DNA here 4 billion years ago were still around. That's a long time for a civilization to last. Since he doesn't believe in God, who does he think gave Moses the tablets (code) on Mount Sinai? Either it was God or aliens, but the death of our progenitor is simply not a logical option. 4) He tells us about a zillion times that he doesn't believe in God. He apparently thinks his secularism gives the book a sheen of credibility. Actually, it makes him look like a fool. The Torah claims to be the Word of God. So why would the subliminal code underlying the plain text contradict that claim. He apparently believes that the Torah itself is just a bunch of ridiculous tales and lies, but encoded within it is ultimate truth. This guy needs to take a remedial course in Logic. 5) The author repeats himself endlessly. The book could have been one-third as long as it is. 6) All his leads end up as dead-ends. He drones on endlessly about Lisan, but of course, doesn't find the code key. 7) I only recall four predictions made in the book. The 2006 nuclear war, the assassination of Arafat, and the worldwide economic depression beginning in 2002, and the proliferation of nuclear weapons by Libya. Two of those predictions can now be evaluated. Since we are in a robust economic recovery, and since Libya has abandoned its WMD programs, it looks like the author is 0 for 2. You can't get much worse than that. Bottom line: The book is worth reading because the evidence that Bible codes are real is very compelling, from a mathmatical point of view. I'm convinced. I'm equally convinced that the author used this esoteric knowledge to tell us nothing we didn't already know, and is lousy at predicting the future.

Nice Follow-Up

It is not the gripping seller like his introductory book but this sequal of Michael Drosnin is phenomenalogical all the same. You have got to appreciate his credentials: formerly a reporter for the Wallstreet Journal and he is an athiest. Faith follows fact and Drosnin has the objectivity required in light of these supernatural claims. Names and events that are showing up embedded from the plain text of scripture in groups of word-clusters in startling accuracy. However, the first book asks many questions that were not elaborated on in this release such as the status of Damascus. Neither was there much reaction to other contemporary works today such as my favorite work on the subject "Cracking the Bible Code" by Satinover or Rambsel's publication that demonstrate much scientific and historical perspectives. However, it is a must for your library for this providential generation.

You're Serious?!

OK, you've used computers to fool around with Hebrew to come up with this. Allow me to ask some questions. The author allegedly met with Arafat. If you take Arabic and the Koran, what do you come up with? Continuing in that light, If you take Sanskrit and Hindu writings, what appears? Now take any written language. Tibetan and Buddhism, Japanese and Shinto and Buddhism. Are all these going to add up? The author seems to want to go out and present himself as the worlds savior. He is the only thing between survival and total destruction. The scariest part would be people in strategic places beliving this.

Fear sells

At this point, nobody should have even any remote interest in buying this book. He only makes 4 actual predictions in it, and is 0 for 3 so far. 1) Libya will start hording WMDs - The exact opposite has happened 2) Massive Worldwide Economic Depression in 2002 - Does anyone remember this happening? I don't. Because it didn't happen. 3) Arafat would be assassinated. - Well he's dead now, but there is nothing that indicates he died from poisoning or anything else besies natural illness, so this one's wrong too. So why would anyone be worried his 4th prediction (Nuclear war in 2006) will come true, especially considering he originally said it would happen in 2000 in the first Bible Code book? Nobody should, but that's how he sells his books. If you tell people they're all gonna die and your book tells them how and how they can possibly avoid it, of course they'll buy it. But what are these predictions really? The first three are just educated guesses. When he wrote this book Libya was still a source of major international conflict and 9/11 was in the past, so it's only logical certain countries might try and make WMDs in their situation. You don't need the Torah to make a guess at that, but a history book might help. By the way, isn't it convienient that he was able to see the events of 9/11 after the fact, but failed to see them in Bible Code I? But it doesn't matter because he was wrong. The economy goes up and down in cycles, and we were already heading down in 2001, so why not just guess it is going to get worse? You need an alien code to tell you that? And Arafat has had multiple attempts on his life for the last 30 years, and this guy guessed one would eventually succeed. Again, how is this anything more than an educated guess? The nuclear war prediction is nothing but a sell point. It's been predicted a thousand times before by other people and the idea always scares people, which in this case equals book sales. I doubt he even believes this stuff, but he knows it will make him a lot of money, which it has. I have a prediction, and I don't need a throughly debunked method of text analysis to make it: In 2007, there will be a Bible Code III.

Countdown to disappointment

This book is almost entirely written to provide "examples" of how the 'Bible code' predicted events that have occurred. Each of those predictions has a graphic 'showing' how it is portrayed in the Bible. The graphs are all in ancient Hebrew and nothing is really explained. This appears to me to be a case of a false prophet... the author is proud that he isn't religious and doesn't believe in God, but he does beleive that somehow "in code" the Bible warns us of what is to come. If you want to know what is to come, trying reading the Bible and having faith in the one true God! If you still want to waste your money on this book, I'll sell my copy CHEAP!

Just when you thought it was safe to stay home and read...

A significant advance from the first book, which I found a bit 'dis-jointed' and somewhat crude. The author has now found his 'legs', having polished his research system. But I digress. The premise of the book is that the old (Hebrew) scriptures has a hidden 'skip-code' within it's original text, that accurately predicts events both today and yet to be in the future. A 'skip-code' is when one takes any written information, removes all the spaces and checks the remaining string of letters for new words, by skipping an equal number of letters in between. (Example: skip 5 characters and write down the 6th. Keep doing this until the end of the text and then look at the new string of characters one produced, to find new whole words). Finding a famous modern name within a 3,000 year old script is cute and could be an interesting party game but the real contraversy involves finding new words that interrelate with each other, close together in the new word strings. Example: "Bin Laden" placed near the words "Twin Towers". Here is where the scientists are devided. Some set the chances of some of these combinations occuring accidentally at millions to one, while others dismiss the entire notion as coincidental. Since probability science is highly subjective, the opinions on this system vary greatly. Since Hebrew is a phonetic language, some scientists think the entire skip-code concept is trumped up because in Hebrew, words can have different meanings, depending on how they sound. What is curious to me is that this system reveals information that has mostly already happend, though it was clearly coded in the Bible text for thousands of years. Basically, one does not know what to search for until it occurs, by then it is technically in the past. No one would search for "Twin Towers" until Sept. 11 but it shure is there. The author explains this by saying that we may have several different futures and the book contains all the valid possibilities. Very Very interesting. Even if you don't believe, it is worth reading.

Bound to be Controversial -- Again

Michael Drosnin's sequel is bound to kick the debate over codes in the Bible back to life . . . a regular cat fight among scientists that started with the publication of his best-selling first book, The Bible Code (Simon & Schuster, 1997). Bible Code II The Countdown (Viking) offers new mini-clusters that "prove" Al Gore won the 2000 presidential election. They "show" that life on earth began when aliens delivered DNA during a visit to planet Earth. His findings predict the 9/11 terrorist attacks, world war in 2006, an atomic holocaust in Israel and several other attention-grabbing themes. There is plenty to fault in this new book by both sides of the argument. Code proponents will say that the world and Bible code research have both moved on dramatically since his first book, but that Drosnin hasn't noticed. They will no doubt despise the paltry code examples Drosnin cites as proof of his theories, his best shots being a couple of six-code clusters, and his longest non-literal code being nine letters long. Serious code researchers have found equidistant letter sequences 61 letters long, in clusters with hundreds of related codes beneath surface text that relates to the theme of the cluster. Finally, most researchers will condemn Drosnin's attempt to use codes to foretell future events. As code pioneer Doron Witztum said, "It is scientifically impossible to make any predictions with codes." Skeptics, on the other hand, will say the same things they said of the first best-seller -- that similar codes can be found in any book. These critics issued sharp criticisms of The Bible Code in particular and of all codes in general. Cal Tech math guru Barry Simon posted his critique at ... and even circulated an e-petition excoriating Bible codes. It was eventually "signed" by several dozen science educators. Another leading critic, Australian computer professor Brendan McKay, posted his objections at .... Bible code adherents concur with the validity of some of the key assertions made by Simon and McKay, while taking strong exception to their blanket dismissal of all Bible codes. Specifically, Simon and McKay rightly claim that sketchy code clusters, such as those presented in Drosnin's books, are such that comparable examples could be extracted from any book. Credible code researchers tend to agree with that specific assertion. All that said, however, Drosnin's book makes for very interesting reading and is sure to stir up the interest of many more people in Bible codes. He has become a bona fide icon among Bible code aficionados for his first book, which introduced the world to the Bible code phenomenon. Any new offering by him is almost certain to be considered a major event. We are saddened, though, that its substance pales in comparison with that of the findings of many code researchers. It does not even provide readers with the details of the codes presented. If only it could be said that Drosnin's work even began to weigh reasonably against that of numerous Jewish code researchers, such as those that gather annually for the International Torah Code Society (ITCS) meetings in Jerusalem. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Instead, many of Drosnin's examples appear more extensive that they really are because he presents phrases from the literal text of the Bible as if they were codes. How are these codes researched, you may be asking. Bible-code-breakers use the same basic probability formulae that National Security Agency and CIA cryptanalysts use on enemy codes. There are several commercial software programs that allow them to search the Hebrew Old Testament for words or phrases with equal numbers of letters (called skips) between those of the term being searched. Intimate knowledge of Hebrew is necessary to work with longer codes. The longer the code in number of letters and the shorter the skip between letters, the greater the odds against its appearing by chance -- the test of a code's authenticity. When several codes are found together in a cluster, they can then be analyzed for their collective authenticity. The most extensive clusters in Drosnin's first book do not begin to compare with those discovered in the past few years. The clusters in his new book fare no better on this basis. From his two books it is evident that Drosnin is content to present as final results code clusters that serious researchers would only regard as embryonic or highly speculative in nature. He is also comfortable interpreting and asserting his sketchy findings with a sense of conviction that has no solid justification on the basis of the evidence he presents. Drosnin makes frequent mention of his contacts with Dr. Eliyahu Rips, an Israeli mathematician who co-authored a key paper on code research in the professional journal, Statistical Science. He also references his use of a program created by Rips and co-author Yoav Rotenberg as the basis for his estimation of the improbability of various clusters he has found. One key question in this regard is whether or not Dr. Rips needs to retract his of Drosnin's work. Or, alternatively, we are left to wonder how accurate Drosnin's characterizations of his reliance on Rips are. We were also disappointed to find that the documentation of his findings is not as thorough as in his first book. In the latter, Drosnin disclosed the specific location (i.e., book, chapter and verse) and skip size of each of the codes he presented. Here he often only mentions the book where the code appears. This makes the task of attempting to reproduce his findings much more difficult and cumbersome, and that in turn makes the task of mathematically evaluating the improbability of his various examples much more time consuming. In a nutshell, the codes that Drosnin presents are much too short to be truly improbable and his clusters present too few codes to amount to a finding more extensive than what could be extracted readily from any book. Nevertheless, it's a great read, especially for anyone new to Bible codes.

AGE OF TERRORISM!

I had a nightmare last night. I had seen four Arab men with what looked like an atom bomb about to detonate it in the New York subway system!I had seen the movie THE MONEY TRAIN: And I thought I recognized the yellow brick rooms like in the movie. Drosnin in his last book BIBLE CODE II: THE COUNTDOWN, seems to predict that New York City is destined for such a nuclear terror attack! On this subject, Drosnin writes: "I fear that one morning we will wake up to the news that a whole city has been destroyed-not two big buildings, but an entire city-that New York, Tel Aviv, or Jerusalem just does not exist anymore." (p. 235) Drosnin has found other nuclear holocaust predictions in the Old Testament in coded form, in the that resemble crossword puzzles: Atomic holocaust with a missile (p. 226); Atomic Holocaust in 2006 (p. 235). I noticed as I studied the Book of Revelation, God sends down judgments on man in increments, getting increasingly severe right up to Armageddon. I like how Drosnins found that the terror attacks werd Birth Pangs like the language Jesus Christ used in the Olivet Dioscourse. Birth pains in the Olivet Discourse refer to disasters that God sends upon mankind as judgments or punishments. And just like the woman in labor, the pains and disasters both become more intense and frequent until the woman gives birth. But in Bible prophecy, the event is the End of the world or the Second Coming of Jesus Christ! But Drosnin also said: "Apocalyptic religious fanatics, terrorists armed with weapons of mass destruction, men who believe they are on a mission from God, they are the ultimate danger encloded in the Bible." (p.22) I had found another mysterious encypted message in the Old Testament which shows the "Mercy of God" intertwined with "Judgment of God" Like it says God may wound but he also forgives. Also I saw this insight about Bin Laden on my own but later found it in this book: "Bin Laden" associated with "Judgment from God". Like God was using Bin Laden as a sword in his hand to punish or scourge the United States for its sins and cruelty. I get my deductions from the Holy Spirit and personal Bible study. I don't know the first thing about Hebrew!

Interesting Book.

I have to say, I'm rather disturbed by the reviews of those who say "his predictions are wrong!" repeatedly. I think if you go back and re-read, Drosnin's whole premise is that these aren't "predictions", rather "possible futures." And that we can change the outcomes... That what is found in the code is an infinite number of "futures" and where the most likely is bad we can try to avoid it. Now I think we all have the basica "butterfly effect" concept down right? I mean, it could be said that any little thing that happened caused a change in those possible outcomes. Infact, we can actually see that is what happened in the case of Libya, which is a "prediction" some of you have blasted. Again it wasn't a prediction but a possible future. And it seems it was the most likely one.. until we went into Iraq. Prior to that Muammar Qaddafi had great WMD ambitions to add to what he already had. But he realised he was screwed if he continued down that path. Anyway, I'm not "Bible Codist" neccessarily, if there is such a thing. I just find it dishonest and misleading (for what agenda I'm not sure) to slam all what you are calling "predictions." For those who haven't read this or the first one... Pick 'em up, they are a really quick and easy read, and food for thought if nothing else. Definitely something that will hold your attention.

Thank You Michael

My own studies indicate that most prophesy is running 5-10 years later than originally indicated. Perhaps we have been given more time to put our peapicken brains in order, and understand that the cosmos and potential events are much larger in scope than we are currently able to understand. Perhaps we have even been able to counteract the worst scenarios by means of harmonic vibration and our work with the many beings of many levels. I suspect the Bible Code relates to beings from one particular point of origin for one particular time/space on the physical earth. Ex., Edgar Cayce noted that the Akashic records will be found beneath the Sphynx. These records come from another group of beings, another point of origin, time/space. It is up to each of us to determine which group we resonate with. It serves no purpose to take delight in what appears to be a failure, because in truth, it is not a failure. And thank God that so far we have not annihalated one another and our beautiful planet. This is NOT fraudulant material. It is one more piece of the puzzle that will lead us into a higher level of consciousness. Now I would like to see the Bible Code taken a step further. What does it say about ascension, 4th and 5th dimension, other cosmic points of origin, etc. . Thank you Michael. If you should happen to read this, I should very much like to talk with you. Suzanne

Once more a bestselling nonsense

The new book by Drosnin is what could be expected if you knew his previous despicable output. I was especially amused by the appendix to Drosnin's new opus wherein he painted a picture which is blatantly untrue, being a fantastic concoction about noble and highly qualified code defenders fighting against a few malicious attackers of low intelligence who, in Drosnin's learned opinion, either do not understand the codes (while he does) or intentionally try to discredit a high quality research allegedly proving the reality of the code. In fact the opposite is true. Contrary to Drosnin's assertion, the overwhelming majority of experts in mathematical statistics decisively rejected the claims by the code proponents. As to Drosnin's own contribution to the code lore, even professor Rips himself, to whom Drosnin refers with admiration and who (actually together with Witztum, whose name Drosnin does not seem to deem worth mentioning) is the originator of the code affair, has expressed his disapproval of Drosnin's atempts to predict the future by means of the alleged code sequences. In an interview to Newsweek a few years ago Drosnin claimed that he would admit his error if somebody found the "prediction" of a prime minister assasination "encoded" in a non-biblical text. A number of such "codes" was demonstrated. McKay found a whole bunch of them in Moby Dick. I found a set of "codes" spelling "Amir Will Kill Prime MInister Hero Rabin" in a Hebrew book by an Israeli writer Dahn Ben Amotz, published in 1979, this "code" being much better than Drosnin's acclaimed "prediction" of Rabin's assassination in the Bible. Drosnin never aknowledged this finding although it has been widely known and invoked multiple responses. That much about Drosnin's integrity. Especially obnoxious is Drosnin's one-sided story about the behavior of the Statistical Science journal. Drosnin omits in his story the threat of litigation against that journal made by Rips' attorneys, something unheard of in the history of scientific disputes. Overall, his new book is a piece of arrogant nonsense which of course will find thousands of gullible readers on whose ignorance and eagerness to believe in miracles journalist of Drosnin's type can always rely so he can laugh all the way to the bank.

Horrendously exploitive

People have been predicting TEOTWAWKI (The End of the World as We Know It) for millennia. This book is merely the latest in a long string of predictions that will not come true. It is based on a mathematically invalid belief: that one can extract hidden messages from the Bible. Actually, similar hidden messages can and have been extracted from any long text, like War and Peace. This book feeds into people's insecurities. Sadly to say, the author will probably make a bundle of money deceiving people. I just wish that Amazon had a 0 stars option.

Bible Code II - foolish approach to bible prophecy

I eagerly dove into the Bible Code II book. I enjoy reading books, by scholars, on Bible prophecy. Drosnin attempts to make cases of prophecy with his book that the Bible code is real. Yet he defies that the text it came from is the Word of God. Instead, his direction turns toward alien origins. Drosnin continues to insist WW III -the End of Days will commence in 2006. Yet, true Bible prophecy clearly states, "the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night." 1 Thess 5:4-6. That is, no date is specified nor will God reveal it. Drosnin also make erroneous statements as Moses wrote the Bible. Moses probably wrote the Pentateuch but not the Bible. The Bible consists of Old Testament (Hebrew) and New Testament (Greek). Nonsensible comments include Al Gore was cheated from the presidency in 2002. -Was predicted by the Bible code. Chapters devoted to the search for an alien ark and obelisk are also whimsical. At this rate I believe the name Betty Crocker is also encoded in the Bible along with some of her kitchen tested recipes. If you are interested in Bible prophecy look for books by Grant Jeffrey and Dr. Charles E. Blair. Accepted prophecy scholars.

Six monkeys, ten minutes

Drosnin's book raises some interesting ideas. He persuades me that there may be a Bible Code. But he provides little in the way of useful answers, and his letters to and interviews with world leaders and their subordinates, and his interpretations of events such as the 1998 impeachment of Bill Clinton and the 2000 presidential election, put his objectivity in serious question. Agree or disagree with his opinions, Drosnin's failing in this book is his inability to remove those opinions from his searches of the Bible Code. God can't exist, but ancient astronauts can. Clinton good, Bush bad. Rabin good, Sharon bad. Arafat is the only world leader willing to meet with Drosnin, if that tells you anything. The hook is that Drosnin has access to a software tool that lets him Google the Torah. But without a reliable "Decoder" to interpret, he's doing little more than playing Magic Eight Ball with his own skewed views of the world, using ancient astronauts as his appeal to authority. If you're looking for a fun, quick read, you could do worse. I read it in a couple of hours, and though it lagged in parts and his unresolved and plodding search for the Ark of Steel was an unforgiveable breach of storytelling protocol, it kept my attention. And I'm half-tempted to buy the software to see what I can wring out of it, if only an introduction to biblical Hebrew. But, truth be told, Umberto Eco did this better in "Foucault's Pendulum." Whether or not the Bible is a program holding the secrets of the universe, the computer rule of Garbage In, Garbage Out applies. Drosnin's searches tell me more about Drosnin than about the future.

Buyer Beware

I do not think that one can intellegently say everything Drosnin has to say is totally good or totally bad. It certainly would have helped if he would have put some Bible references to the discovery of the codes. Personally, I don't see how you can absolutely debunk the codes while some have come true. In this book you must decipher truth from fiction. I find his discovery of a nuclear world war in 2006 interesting. 2006 happens to be the next Sabbatical year and it in sink with teachings of the Early Church. Ireneaus, Justin Martyr, Barnabas (a contemporary of Paul) all wrote in their writings that just as God created the world in 6 days, in so many thousand years the world would last because a day with the Lord is as a thousand years (II Peter 3:8). You can verify the facts in Against Heresies, Dialogue with Trypho, and the Epistle of Barnabas. It was a universal teaching until Constantine [influenced] the church. It is also in pattern with God working in 7's. He rested on the 7th day, every 7th year was a Sabbatical year and it seems to be in step with this concept. Again, some of Drosnin's book is heretical however that does not mean everything should be [at a lower price]. It is worth the money as long as you are well grounded in Scripture so you won't be led astray.

This Book Has Absolutely No Predictive Value

IMHO, this book has absolutely no predictive value. Sure, the author predicted 911 by virtue of his deciphering of the secret code in the Torah, but AFTER THE EVENT. Where is the predictions on the attacks on Afghanistan, or Iraq. Where is the Columbia Shuttle disaster prediction? Or SARS? Or the Monkeypox virus? Or anything else. The Old Testament test for a true prophet is the ability to give The Word of God BEFORE THE EVENT HAPPENS. Here, we have a self-proclaimed prophet, who's sole claim to fame is the construction of a sophisticated computer algorithm to supposedly translate God's plan for mankind. A self-proclaimed 'messenger of God' who, alone (and with his computer program), is able to give the Word of God to mankind. What about the prophets of old such as Moses, or Ezekiel, or Daniel, or Elijah, or Jonah, or the others? Did they also use a computer program for thier prophesies? Or maybe only the author is the true prophet and the others were imposters? I rest my case. Read this book for pleasure and enjoyment, but not for inspiration. And consider the source of the thoughts, and the logical conclusions of where the author would wish to lead the lambs.

Where is the code key?

I found the book fascinating at first. Some of his findings were remarkable. Sometimes he attributed meaning to a certain word, only to later find it was part of a larger sentence. Many Hebrew words have several different meanings, but the Bible codes do not appear to be random. So Mr. Drosnin needed a Code Key to decipher the Bible Code. It was like something out of Indiana Jones, the way he pinpointed the location at Lisan where the Key could be found. The fact that he published this book without finding the Code Key either means 1) He's an idiot because boatloads of archiologists have since combed Lisan for the key OR 2) He has found the key, but needed time to learn it secrets before publishing ($$$) his findings in Bible Code 3. Either way, the last few Chapters were repetitive in the extreme. I was getting madder and madder as I reached the last couple of Chapters. I said to myself - he better not end this book without finding the Code key. It was like bad "To be continued" TV. QUESTION: At one point, he says the Bible Code and DNA code could be from the same recipe. Since only a small percentage of human DNA has a function, does this mean that the useful code in the Bible is mixed in with a ton of garbage? ANOTHER QUESTION: How come he never found his own name 'Drosnin' in the Bible Code? Or maybe he did find it, but didn't like the $$$ signs next to his name.

Face Facts, People

We don't want to have to march on Washington, write our Congressmen about our foreign policy, or become informed, nor would be caught DEAD supporting world peace, so let's pick on Michael Drosnin, right people??? And we sound so SMART doing it, heck, we don't read the paper, but we're ALL mathematicians now, aren't we!!! Okay, fine, you win. But when you're done burning Dronsnin's books in the street, or whatever else guilty people do to feel better about themselves, answer this: forgetting the Bible Code and Drosnin altogether, what're you gonna do with the fact that your president, maybe the most protected man alive, got a smallpox vaccine? Whya think that might be? Howya gonna keep eating potato chips when the government is telling you daily that if you live in a major city, the question is WHEN, not IF, you will face another terrorist attack? How many times does CNN have to say that weapons of mass destruction are already in the hands of terrorists before you say, HMMM, MAYBE THERE'S SOMETHING TO THIS ANNIHILATION THING??? Drosnin has his name and reputation out there, espousing a theory that I am the first to admit, is hard to digest. Criticize the theory, but I defy anyone to deny the conclusions. Meanwhile, what are YOU doing to help stop hatred and killing? Uh-huh, I thought so. Five stars, Mister Drosnin. Keep on keepin' on.

Master of the Obelisks, Daniel

I have found the Bible Code to be true. Drosnin's books, Bible Code One and Bible Code Two, have information about my personal research - although neither Rips nor Drosnin know me. Both books describe my secret work as an independent researcher and aspiring writer. After I registered my first book in 1996, which is a commentary that "opened" the Book of Daniel, I purchased a copy of Bible Code One. I was amazed to find my work on Daniel referred to. I thought I was the only person to know I "opened" the Book of Daniel. I thought my literary effort would be unheralded and lost in obscurity. Instead, Bible Code One, as an international best seller, announced my research to the world. Some time later, I completed a manuscript on obelisks and their prophetic messages. While my work was being registered, Bible Code Two was delivered to bookstores. I bought a copy and was astonished a second time. In it I read of my research on obelisks. I felt my research effort was humble, but in Bible Code Two I was referred to as "Master of the Obelisks." It appears that God is overseeing and guiding the decoding of the Bible, and is calling special attention to my research on Daniel and the obelisks. Drosnin needs to read my book on obelisks before he wastes a fortune on archeological digs in the Dead Sea. The Bible code can send people on wild goose chases. Rip's decoding program revealed a mystical obelisk to Drosnin. It is the same obelisk I wrote of. Drosnin, however, does not realize that God spoke of the obelisk in a manner that is sure to throw off the unwelcome. I am sure that atheists are unwelcome and thwarted at every turn. As an atheist, Drosnin has an inadequate knowledge base. He's in over his head. He has been led to believe in spaceships and such. Worse, I see a financial disaster for Drosnin if he pursues a dig in the Dead Sea. God's humor is a little scary, especially when He is laughing at you. It's time to reread the story of Lot's wife and consider the lesson learned. A lesson to be learned about decoded messages is that it takes far more than a basic secular and religious education to comprehend. dackargus@hotmail.com (pseudonym)

KUDOS TO DROSNIN FOR HIS COURAGE SAYS LAUREN TRATAR

In the not too distant past, people like Drosnin were killed. "Blasphemous" people would cry. For by doing away with the source of irritating knowledge we don't have to face our deepest fears: Change. There is more to life than what we now believe. The Wright Brothers, Copernicus, Socrates, all possessed knowledge that challenged the prevailing beliefs of mankind, until it didn't. The result? We, as mankind, evolved. One aspect of life that is certain: Evolution. It is innate to human consciousness says Dr. David Hawkins. That being said, what if the Bible Code and its supposedly outrageous claims were but one source that conveyed the same message? What if thousands of years ago mankind possessed knowledge that would be critical for those of us living right now? What if ancient scribes from many different civilizations across the globe painstakingly tried to convey that critical knowledge in any form they could conjure? What if vast amounts of evidence existed from many diverse realms that corroborated what the Bible Code says? Would you be more apt not to cry "death to the messenger?" Overwhelming evidence does exist that corroborates the Bible Code. The prophecies of Hopi Indians, the ancient Mayans, the ancient Egyptians, the Lakota-Sioux native American tribe, the Jewish Kabhallists, the Hindus, the Essenes, all have a common thread: Humankind would arrive at a precarious point in its collective evolution around the year 2000. By that time we would have attained vast technological abilities but at the same time, lack critical information as to how life operates at the most fundamental level thereby creating very dangerous conditions that could lead to the annihilation of mankind and earth. However, at this pivotal moment in history, referred to as the "Shift of the Ages", ancient secrets were to be revealed which would allow us to EVOLVE -- if we heeded them. You don't need a degree in rocket science to see that "something" is happening today. All you have to do is to tune into the news or pick a newspaper. Indeed, we have arrived at a pivotal point in our evolution. Historian Arnold Toynbee studied the fall of 26 ancient civilizations concluding that each met their demise because they refused to evolve. Furthermore, Albert Einstein tells us that problems are created at one level of awareness but the solutions lie at the next level -- thereby impelling our evolution. If we continue to "take an eye for an eye" we will only perpetuate going through the motions on the hamster wheel resolving nothing. If I kill you and you kill me, we're both dead. A 4 year-old can understand that. Lest your logic and skepticism have the better of you, the new science of Quantum Physics also supports the underlying premise in the Bible Code which states that a number of "possible futures" exist simultaneously and that we actualize one possibility over another, or "choose" our future, based on what we focus on. Furthermore, noted physicist Henry R. Stapp, in his paper entitled "Knowings" (targeting important physicists who were expert in Quantum Theory) states: It is our "knowings", or that which we believe, which are the "basic irreducible building blocks of life." To translate that into something comprehensible, think in terms of a game of Nintendo: Every time "Mario" arrives at a "choice point," he must choose one direction over other possilities, each resulting in a different "future." We are now "choosing" our future based on our past: What we currently "know" and believe. What the Bible Code and Dead Sea Scrolls (the library of the Essene Brotherhood who secreted their critical knowledge in many different places around the globe lest we not fail to dig up the Dead Sea Scrolls...) tell us is that we have the ability to consciously choose the future, or play the game of life as we would play a game of chess. Essentially, we possess the ability to "actualize" one possible future over another by focusing our dominant thought upon the preferred choice. We can choose to experience "Eden" where war no longer exists, or "oceans of blood and the annihilation of mankind." It is our choice. We have indeed arrived at a critical juncture where we must now choose, state not only the Bible Code, but many documents of antiquity. And if, as Einstein stated, we choose not to find our solutions at the NEXT level of awareness, we can only mimic those "brilliant" civilizations of the past that met their demise. The Bible Code tells us that we must do SOMETHING before 2006. Israeli intelligence has confirmed that by 2006 every fanatic in the world who wishes to destroy someone will have access to nuclear power. Visionary Jean Houston asks: "Will we grow or die?" Ask yourself that question. Do you have the courage to grow, to step outside of your "comfort zone?" For evolution begins at the end of your comfort zone. Kudos to Drosnin for having the courage to step outside of his comfort zone and try to do something before it's too late. He's my hero!

should've done my research!

As a Christian, I think this book is, at best, a hokey science-fiction. At worst, it borders on being Satanic. For the non-Christian, it is a book that goes to great detail to "predict" the events of 9/11...of course, after 9/11. Drosnin talks about ancient space travel with alien DNA as the source of human life. With a lot of imagination, this book could be slightly interesting. However, for the Christian, I believe this book is more than just simple science-fiction. Fist, if by chance what Drosnin says is true, there must be a force greater than man at work "encoding" theses codes within the Hebrew text. The author doesn't believe in God, therefore, there is no godly influence to his work, unlike the Bible itself which is "God-breathed". The question is then, what is the real source behind this book? Secondly, anything that focuses man's attention on anything but God as Creator of all life is not of God. Finally, the most obvious indication that this book is not of God, is the "predicted" time when the world will end. The Bible itself says that even Christ did not know when the end would come and warns of those who claim to know. My review of this book is to pass it up!

There is no "Bible code"

One of the foundational qualities of the Bible is its clarity (sometimes called perspicuity). That means Scripture's main teachings are plain enough to be understood without the need of special expertise or church-sanctioned interpretations. The Bible frequently speaks about its own clarity. Psalm 119:130 says, "The unfolding of Thy words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple." The average person who humbly reads the Bible can say, "I have more insight than all my teachers, for Thy testimonies are my meditation" (Psalm 119:99). Psalm 19:7 teaches, "The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple." The idea of hidden codes in the Bible contradicts all of that by limiting accessibility to the real message of the Bible to so-called experts who can decipher the cryptic messages God "hid" in the Scriptures. But such "experts" aren't needed because the Bible contains no hidden codes. One hidden-code theory works like a common word-search puzzle-hidden messages are supposedly embedded diagonally within the Hebrew text. But that's as foolish as turning your daily newspaper into a word-search puzzle and expecting to find meaningful stories hidden in it. Newspapers aren't written to convey messages in secret code, and neither was the Bible. Both should be read using ordinary rules of language. Of course there are concepts in the Bible that are hard to understand-even the apostle Peter admitted that (2 Peter 3:15). But the way to discover the meaning of those hard passages is not by seeking out hidden messages, but by engaging in diligent study that accurately handles the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15). Take heart! The Bible is clear and even the most untrained reader can understand it. God wants you to understand the Bible, and He has provided the Holy Spirit as a guide (John 16:13). After all, "man does not live by bread alone, but...by everything that proceeds out of the mouth of the LORD" (Deuteronomy 8:3).

Count Down to Nothing... using your own money!

Michael Drosnin's sequel exceeds the overall stupidity of his first writing, concerning the 'Bible Codes', by a quantum factor! The text, Bible Code II - The Countdown, consists of the spurious rambling apocalyptic babblings of a doom-saying false prophet who expects the world to end by the year 2006- unless he can personally find the key to the codes; which were buried near the tongue of the sea, by ancient astronauts who traveled here long ago in a steel ark, and recorded upon two obelisks of unknown specifics. All of this is couched amongst many familiar Bible Codes matrices (rectangular Hebrew puzzle pictures) with few actual Biblical references and mostly devoid of explanation, scientific method, or semblance of reasoning. It's bad, really bad. At more than one point in the book, Michael Drosnin forgets that Bible Codes research only ever involved the Torah; the Pentateuch, the first five books of Moses. His second 'piece of work' actually finds Torah codes in other books of the old testament as well! Amazing-! Maybe they could also be found in 'Moby Dick', or 'War and Peace'? The crown jewel of Drosnin's epic sequel is his self righteous admission that he personally, and heroically, manipulated (or attempted to manipulate) several world leaders with his misguided tea-leaf and tarot-card Torah-codes! Imagine actually scaring the socks off of Arafat- face to face in his own bunker! Astounding! It is classic Drosnin, which is why I can't believe anyone would publish it! I give this book one star, only because 'black hole' isn't one of Amazon.com's options.

Scientifically proven, but still publicly disputed.

I am surprised that none of those reviewers seem to know that the hypothesis about the code has been published and proven to be true in mathmatical academic society. Here is the journal and link for the paper. [Statistical Science 1994, Vol. 9, No. 3, 429-438], [[...] Read the paper, then you will agree that the probability to find those selected key words are only meaningful in the hebrew bible as the auther claims. I also have some thoughts about the code, but i will see how it turns out.

Drosnin Megalomania II

If the first Bible Code book was bad, this one is even worse. I don't recommend it, unless you actually enjoy reading Drosnin's accounts of how he is using the Bible Code to save the world from atomic holocaust, prove that extraterrestials seeded earth with human DNA, and so on. Drosnin calls his critics "silly," but his refusal to even read or understand what they've found about problems with the Bible Code is far worse than "silly." Have you ever typed the word "generalization" ? If so, congratulations! You've just created a "hidden message" with the word NAZI, using the same ELS technique Drosnin loves: geNerAliZatIon ...P>It's in there, every single word an official Bible Code TM message. In fact, the last word, "HOAX", is STUPENDOUS by Bible Code standards, having a skip of just 7 letters. ...P>Sincerely, Dave Thomas Peralta, New Mexico USA

Ugh...

Drosnin's agenda is as clear as crystal: liberals have tried to save the world based on his predictions and those evil conservatives have stepped in at every turn to thwart his noble efforts to continue mankind. Enough already. The logic of "the code" is at best vacuous and based on the stretches and winks that allow anyone to find exactly what they're looking for in "research." If you're a liberal, you'll find yourself pumping your fist in the air as affirmation that all conservatives want to end civilization on this planet. As hilarious as this may sound, it's what most of you believe. If you're a conservative, you won't get very far into this book before you decide to prop up a wobbly table with it, understanding it's just another agendized tome wrapped around a semi-interesting topic. Read it in the store and have a good laugh and then move on. Don't drop any hard-earned pennies on this book. They should sell it on a six-inch roll... at least then it would be useful.

Bible Code II - From Fact to Fiction

The original Bible Code, though not well written, was a tribute to the mathematician who discovered the code and provided the reader with enough facts and information to ponder the implications of the findings and desire additional information to validate a fascinating theory. Accordingly, one would assume that Bible Code II would provide additional refinement for cracking the code. Disappointingly, that is not the case. In this Book Drosnin has turned this important discovery into a farce by inserting himself as some kind of a messenger and hero of a "fictional" story which he tries to make a reality. Instead of additional facts, there is only a description of the author's quest to provide world leaders with his distorted interpretation of the messages decoded by the Bible Code. Sadly the messages are clouded by the author's liberal social and political biases, causing the loss of any credibility Dr. Rip's original discovery may have had. The book is the fictional ramblings of an ego driven author that has little literary appeal and lacking scientific substance, the book provides no redeeming value to the reader.

Interesting subject -- dissapointing delivery.

Admits on page 5 that he doesn't believe in God. Hmmmm. What a waste of time. This is a very interesting subject, but he simply should've handed the project over to a believer. I don't care for psychic or Nostradomus type of speculations being mixed with the Bible. So, why should he expect us to believe that someone who doesn't believe in God, or the Bible for that matter, would have anything valid to say about the Bible or our future? And why was he trying to consult our Presidents and world leaders? Hello Mr. Vanity. Why was this book in the Christian section of the bookstore? I'm taking it back. I think Grant Jeffries may have a better book.

Improbably Good

Drosnin, winner of the 1997 Ig Nobel prize for literature, may win another for this incredible book, Bible Code II: The Countdown. If only President Bush, a daily bible reader, or our security agencies had studied Drosnin's research, and the bible, the World Trade Center attack could have been prevented. For as Drosnin discovered, after the attack, it was all laid out thousands of years ago in the Old Testament! We can only hope that Drosnin intensifies his research so that these disasters are discovered before they occur. Drosnin deserves the recognition due him and I will forward my nomination to the Ig Nobel committee...[web address]. I am sure you will do the same after you have read this fanastic treatise. p.s. This review contains several encoded predictions. See how many you can find!

Author constantly repeats himself

This book could have easily been 10 pages instead of 279 pages. The author continually repeats himself to the point of boredom. The author claims that God gave Moses the Torah, and he strongly believes in the Torah and the hidden truth, but he doesn't believe in God. Where is the logic here? The author is very politically driven in this book. Arafat is a saint, but Sharon and Bush are warmongers. The Republican Supreme Court judges gave Bush the election from Gore. The part about the 3 recounts was left out. Save your money. Here is the whole book in a nutshell. Arafat will be assassinated and nuclear holocaust in 2006.

Silly nonsense

I am the author of the "Moby Dick" codes mentioned by an earlier reviewer. To see that codes appear anywhere, we can use Drosnin's own book. Go to the extract that appears on this site and locate the words "Lower Manhatten" a few paragraphs down. Starting at the R of "Lower", count forward 32 letters at a time to find the hidden message "R.U. FOOLED?" encoded in the text exactly the same way that Drosnin's hidden messages are encoded in the Bible. Moreover, the chance that this message appears so close to the start of the book is less than 1 in 200,000, so, according to Drosnin's logic, it must be there by design and not by accident.

Big Disappointment

I bought this book expecting a serious and scholarly treatment of the subject matter. While the explication of techniques in deciphering messages is interesting, the discussion following each message is highly politicized. As the reader progresses through the chapters, we "discover" that left wing Israeli politicians and Yasser Arafat are sympathetic characters, and Surprise!: there is even a long section claiming the Bible codes prove that the US Supreme Court stole the election from "President Gore". I have continued to look into Bible codes and have discovered that there are ways in which one's own personal biases can affect the message. Don't waste your money on this jokebook.

Good Science fiction

It's a very simple matter to run an internet search on any of the references or contacts mentioned Mr. Drosnin's book.Aside from the multitudes of physicists, linguists, mathematicians and bible scholars who refute virtually all of Mr. Drosnin's conclusions (not to mention his methadologies),the most interesting thing to me is the public statements made by all the players in his book e.g Rips,Gans et al who all distance themselves from Mr. Drosnin and his sensationalism. With friends like those..! A silly book. Nonetheless,it has redeeming qualities. It is a fast paced, good read and it makes sense(in a science fiction kind of way) and it certainly offers up food for thought.

Bible Code II: Riveting, Scary, Important

Anyone who is concerned with the current crisis in the Middle East -- and its global implications -- should read Bible Code II: The Countdown. If you are not concerned, read this book and you will be. Combining political analysis and the compelling evidence of an ancient code hidden in the Old Testament, Drosnin allows us to understand the danger the world is facing. Yet despite the horrifying "End of Days" scenario Drosnin paints here, he does more than predict doomsday: he provides an imperative for finding a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Readers of Bible Code II may find that fear can lead to action and, ultimately, hope.

This Book Should Have Been a Pamphlet

This second book does contain some new and interesting information but it is painfully repetative. It was a huge disappointment to plow through the whole book to find that I could have read the chapter summaries at the end and get all the information in a fraction of the time. If you liked the first one you should read this one. My suggestion is to read the summaries first then go back to the actual chapters for more clarification if needed.

Some Code II

This book is a follow up to another book which was flawed in the first place. How convenient that current events that have just past are "suddenly" revealed in Drosnin's second book. If they were there, why didn't Drosdin tell us about them the first time and save over 3,000 lives in New York? Or tell us about the hanging chad problem so it could be fixed in advance and save people a lot of heartache and anquish? The very purpose of prophecy is to build up people's faith and warn them about potential dangers, even if they have to go through them. Where was Drosnin BEFORE it all happened? Since all written language is mathamatic at its core, a guy can find any kind of words he want if he just keeps hunting and pecking long enough. This is especially true of a guy copying his interpretation of prophecy from all the other sensationalist prophecy teachers out there. This book is just more of a bad thing. For a real book about the real Bible code, read "the Character Map" by Eickleberry. The code he found shows us how to read all prophecies, and, more important, how to live.

Fraud

Be aware. Drosnin is obviously a fraud and just by reading the back cover one can see that he is perhaps paid and used by the United States government. His details, though not based on any true evidence, about the 911 events makes it clear to all but the most naive that he is a messenger used by those who are trying to cover up the truth about 911. The book is a ploy and it's purpose has nothing whatsoever to do with our Holy Bible. Even if the Bible does contain codes, this book was produced for disinformation, not code-breaking.

The book is good , then you can agree or not

I have read this book and I think that one thing is clear . There's a code inside the Bible, at least in the first 5 books . For me that's interesting enough. After this we can agree with Michael Drosnin views or not . But I find the book very entertaining .

Long awiated sequel, better than the first

Drosnin does a wonderful job again of being objective on a truely astounding subject. The Code is real and the math behind it proves it. Drosnin writes with a fevered pitch, you can tell he isn't happy that his life is now dedicated to the Bible Code but he will play his part in trying to change the prediction of what is written in the Code. This sequel has many unique chapters ranging from his search for the 'Steel Ark' to the seeding of DNA on our planet with some help along the way from Francics Crick(DNA doulbe helix Nobel Prize). Overall the gift to give or the gift to give yourself.

This was horrible

This was possibly the most horrible book I've ever read. I had high expectations to start and then they sunk. The man doesn't even believe in God, and is getting all his "coding" from the Bible. What is the Bible about? God. He tries to tell us that aliens could have written this to foretell us of an impending doom. We already know from just reading the Bible, in plain text, that Armaggedon is going to happen and there is nothing we can do to stop it. The author of this book is a wanna be Indiana Jones wanting to make a name for himself, and push his anti-Bush message. Which totally didn't belong here. Also, he says this our DNA was sent here in a vehicle from another planet and the vehicle is possibly located in the Dead Sea. Where does this man's imagination end? He needs to quit watching the X files. I'm glad I only paid 6 bucks for this book, looking back I wouldn't of even paid a penny. Not worth your money, or reading time.

Garbage

There are a lot of gullible people out there. Neither the Bible Code nor Drosnin predicted 9/11. After the fact, Drosnin typed various words into a computer, which re-ordered the Torah until it came up with something. Anybody can do that about any subject.

A radical leap away from its purpose

Drosnin repeatedly claims that he isn't "a believer" in God, but knows that there is "something" in the Bible codes. When he violates the first principle the Bible Codes (that it can't be used for prediction), he ends up predicting the "end of the World" (a la Nostradamus) and then looks for evidence that "aliens" planted life on earth in the Dead Sea area. For one who is seriously interested in either the Bible or Bible Codes, this book isn't it. Save your money.

Great as farce, rubbish & lies as non-fiction

Just like his first book, Drosnin seeks to profit from the public's ignorance regarding probability and statistics. The exact same "slight" of numbers techniques could be used on any lengthy novel. There is nothing more credible here than in numerology of palm reading. Save your money and buy your kid or nephew a science book like "How Things Really Work"

Don't waste the two hours to read this book.

The first "Bible Code" book was interesting. It had me convinced and believing there is a code. I was anxious to read Bible Code II and was very disappointed. I could get around the fact that half of the book is a repeat of the first one, but when the author starts telling me some alien being shot down in a steel vehicle is the reason for my being here, then I have to say, what a joke.

Nobody or nothing can predict the future.

Book is interesting and amusing at the same time. People thought the world was going to end on January 1st of 2000. It didn't. Nostrodamus couldn't do it either. Show me REAL proof!!!

Bad bad bad

This book is a joke. In the first page of the book, Drosnin starts out by telling us he is an atheist, then goes on to say he believes that there are hidden codes in an ancient book that is supposed to be written by GOD. So either he is a moron, or a liar. He frequently makes off the wall conclusions, simply because he found 2 or 3 words encoded near eachother in the torah. The book is already irrelevant, because Drosnin predicted(I take that back, he says the bible predicted) that Arafat, Bush, and Sharon would present at the end of days. Oops! Arafat's dead! Nice job you fraud.

Absolutely hilarious.

This is the feel-good laugh fest of the year. Really. I mean, here's the idea: Drosnin takes the original Hebrew texts of various books of the Bible (a feat in itself, since there are multiple versions of some of them), lines up the text in orderly rows and columns, and then plays crossword. Using various grid arrangements (there's no set rule for how many rows or columns he has to use, so he uses whatever he needs to get what he wants), he connects words vertically, diagonally, etc. and makes new sentences. According to Drosnin, when intepreted correctly these sentences make specific predictions, both for events that have already occurred, and for events that will occur in our own future. Some of you may still be with him at this point. "Why not?" I imagine you saying. "If the Bible is truly God's own work, or at least divinely inspired, why wouldn't He place within it a code that would allow Believers to read the future of mankind?" I can think of several reasons why not. To take one example, as numerous (and too often overserious) debunkers have been at pains to point out, if you apply the same techniques to "Moby Dick," to Shakespeare, or to any reasonably long literary work, you will also be able to extract sentences that can be interpreted as pertaining to recent events. And you don't even have to learn Hebrew. God has apparently been a busier writer than we first thought. The "Bible Code" has about the same level of seriousness as the writings of Nostradamus or Jeanne Dixon. Bible Code II is additionally weighted with millennialist hokum - as any number of religious sects will be happy to tell you, we are rapidly approaching the "Last Days" or "End Times," after all, just as we have been every single year since shortly after the Crucifixion - which firmly places Drosnin in the same lame-brained category as Hal "Oops, I think I'll move my predictions another few decades on" Lindsey. What seals the deal here, naturally, is that Drosnin makes a few predictions that are just too specific, and set too soon in the future. As a prior reviewer has noted, if New York fails to take a nuclear hit this year, Drosnin has some recalibrating to do. I'll take that bet. He really needs to move things out a bit if he wants to maximize his take from this scam. Don't be taken. Even in the overpopulated realm of millenialist, pseudoscientific drivel, this is worthless fluff. In the real world, it's just a belly laugh.

code 666

Ok People when it comes down to this bible code decoding on your pc. I`m sure you think you already thought of everthing. but you may not have. See it was about 11:00 pm. on thursday jan. 22 that i was tring to think of a word to search for when my dad says hey Mark look at it this way (now remember people the thing i wanted to figure out was the one thing everbody wants to know who is the anti-christ)as i was saing my dad says look at it this way take a GOOD look at this (a) I said (a)? he said now what about (aaa) look at this backwards it says 666 i said yeah so then he sad ATAFAT or A r A f A t three a`s so i said ok fine so i put in arafat got some results but there was nothing really so after awhile i said what if i try aaa witch in hebrew looks like xxx now when i put this in my 180 mhz cpu pc it couldent handle it. After a looong time my result was 23,742 i said being my stupid self there must be something in the number but no. Way off when i looked at the whole thing in the hebrew bible it was like a design through the whole bible mostly diangle but thru the whole bible ...........now think about it

Science fiction at it's best, part deux!

I knew I was in trouble when the author wrote in the forward, "I do not believe in God." Then what's he doing writing a book about the Bible? I know I was in even more trouble when he started showing things in the Bible but not putting a reference, i.e. John 3:16, Gen. 3:15, etc. etc. Anybody can write a code in Hebrew and make it say anything they want. Finally, I knew I was reading a poor attempt at science fiction when the authos said God is an alien. Wasted my money on this one. Please do NOT buy!

The Countdown

A real cool book and a fun read. Guess it does all come down to a countdown. I enjoyed it. Thanks

Don't Believe It! It's a proven hoax

Scientific American magazine just did a review of this book ("Codified Claptrap" june 2003 issue). They told how real researchers were able to use the author's code technique to predict NBA championships - and just about anything else. Furthermore, the first Bible Code book predicted Armageddon in the year 2000. What more do you need? The "code" can be made to say anything. Save your money and your time.... ...

Very Interesting! Highly Recommended!

You either believe it or you don't. But I found the book very interesting and couldn't put it down. I highly recommend it even if you're skeptical. Believing the code isn't the important aspect but simply to consider it and come up with your own conclusion. "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." --Artistotle

Bible Code is All that it's cracked up to be

This book is by far the best I've seen. It not only explains the bible code, it shows you exactly where it is seen. The details in the book are amazing. I've looked for other books similiar to this one and have been disappointed. This is the best book money could buy. I'm looking into finding the software to give it a crack of my own. Spend the money, the book is worth it!

A Con Job

Drosnin says he learned about this from the smartest man he ever met. WRONG! The smartest man he ever met was his publicist, probably himself. This book is nothing more than a random walk and a con job. Save money and interpret cumulous clouds for free. He is probably laughing at his followers. Do a google on him and all will be confirmed.

Honestly.......

Is this bloke fair dinkum or what? I have never read such utter rubbish in my life! And just a small question for the author... can you make predictions on things BEFORE they happen? You have supposedly "forseen" the end of the world via nuclear/atomic destruction, so, if you are so confident, I am willing to give you odds of 100 to 1 that NONE of your predictions take place.... contact me if you are game!

interesting book

I have the 2 books of Drosnin but i think this new one is more interesting but i agree with other Review its like Indian Jones searching 4 the obelisk, in this second book he needs to put more things of the future or more facts that proves that the code is real

The Countdown
