The Boring Political Stuff
In many ways, this manga is killing itself. Don't get me wrong, I love both the Berserk anime and the manga, but in both of them there was a point when everything seemed to slow so much that it was difficult to continue. And it hit this wall at the same time in the manga as the anime. That is during all of the political intrigue and assassinations. Though yes, it adds somewhat to the characters of Guts and Griffith, it's still a severe change of pace from what it had been, and that was a series of tense, bloody battles with both man and beast with Guts or the Band of the Hawk always escaping victorious. Where at one time the volumes of this manga were filled with page after page of sparse dialogue, now the characters actually carry real conversations. Some may say this is good, and so I had thought it would be, but you can still feel the sudden change of pace while reading these moments. Despite all of that, however, this is actually a brief moment that ends during this very volume, though very late into it to be sure. Guts and company get back to doing what they do best, and that is war. Luckily, I knew from seeing the anime that things heat up quickly after the political stuff passes. The promise of the future of this manga is brought back and, despite the setbacks I had (see my reviews of previous Berserk volumes) I know that this is still one of the best manga has to offer. I can't wait to buy the next volumes.
Volume 6 of Berserk is as beautiful as every other volume of the series
Volume 6 of Berserk is as beautiful as every other volume of the series. The artistic abilities of Kentaro Miura are fabulous, as well as his powerful ability to tell a story. The characters that you've come to know (Guts, Griffith, Casca and many more!) continue their development, and continue on their paths towards what they truly desire.
Amazing story!!!
This is one of my favorite anime series of all time. Finding out it has a manga with more story and more content made my year. The story is riveting and developed. The pace is steady and the villains are amazingly evil. I'm thoroughly enjoying my read of this manga.

If you already got this far, then there's no reason to tell you that you need to buy more! But I refuse! The more money you give Miura, the more he plays Idolm@ster, at this rate the series will never be completed!!

Suspense and Drama
This volume is more suspenseful after the cliffhanger of Volume 5. It contains a chunk of character development for Guts and Casca while expounding on Griffiths ambition.

As a Berserk fan, you need this volume.
Relationships deepen and grow more complex.
Spending more and more time with the Band of the Hawk, Miura is giving us some really good character development here. The relationship between Guts and Griffith is growing more complex and interesting by the volume. Not to mention other standouts here like Casca. Miura's art shines here as well; standing out as cleaner, while also more detailed. Looking forward to more.
Great Addition

This volume is another great installment in the Golden Age Arc of Berserk. Artwork still as impressive as always and alot of good character development for Guts and Casca. Really worth the purchase!

Some light damage to the spine and cover. Disappointed.

Great series!
Another exciting chapter in the Golden Age Saga of BERSERK!
Thanks to Griffith's leadership, and Zodd retreating from the battlefield after delivering his prophecy to Guts, the Band of the Hawk find themselves heroes. Griffith has the recognition of the king himself while attracting the notice of the king's young daughter, Princess Charlotte. But such rise in station makes enemies. While Guts just wants to swing his sword and fight, the Band of the Hawk find themselves in lesser guard duty, protecting Griffith from the machinations swirling around them. Griffith has only one person he trusts to carry out his darker deeds. Guts will have to become more than a swordsman. But so long as his friend Griffith needs him, he's happy. Content where he is. Can he stay that way forever? Is he truly Griffith's friend, or does Griffith expect? Volume 6 brims with political intrigue and poignant moments. Guts clutching the dying boy's hand is moving and harrowing at the same time, but the most pivotal moment in the entire series, the catalyst for the train of events that leads to the Black Swordsman happens in this book, in a conversation between Griffith and Princess Charlotte. His words to her will spark something in Guts. Miura continues to develop his characters in this volume, with Caska getting her backstory fleshed out. We get to see another layer to Griffith. He's a complex character, still possessing his a boyish playfulness that seems at odds with his cold, ruthless tactics. His charisma shines through even when he's giving orders that lead to more violence and death. He has a dream, and he won't let anything stop him from reaching it. Not even the Band of the Hawk, his loyal followers. If you're not reading one of the masters of Grimdark Fantasy, you should be! Berserk is no simple tale. It's not playful and light like many Japanese Manga. It's rooted deep in Western storytelling and setting, with mature themes that resonate with the truths they tell.
Another wonderful installment in this series.
This is the sixth volume in the Berserk manga series. Fans of the anime series will remember this one as the episode where Casca falls off the cliff and Guts jumps after her. This is an excellent installment in this series and I really enjoyed it. Again, I continue to be very impressed with how much story is covered in each volume of this series. We see Griffith gaining more and more prestige among the nobility and the Band of the Hawk is rising in status with him. The first half of the story deals with Griffith and the Band of the Hawk back at the palace with the King. The second half deals with another battle that the Band of the Hawk is fighting for the king. The illustration continues to be very well done and is easy to follow. This manga is categorized as seinen (targeted at adult males) and remains very violent and gory. Overall this was another spectacular addition to the Berserk series. I continue to really enjoy the story, the characters, the illustration, and all the amazing action scenes. I would recommend to mature readers who enjoy horror fantasy manga with a lot of action.
Great as always
Nothing short of a great story and illustration and be sure you will enjoy every part of it as usual
The price of dreams
Muira's art is stunning here, and the writing starts to deepen with the Hawks and the nature of Griffith's Dream. Casca is made more dimensional in this book, and Gutts does something that seems to truly haunt him. The price of dreams is explored here.
The Growth of Guts as a Man
For those who have seen the Berserk television series, very little of the manga so far released has been much of a surprise. This, by no means, is a slight against the original author's work, just a testament to how closely the anime's producers followed the rich story. Volume #6's events may already familiar to fans of the series, but just because they know what is going to happen, doesn't mean it loses its thrill. On the contrary, as I saw events beginning to converge on the climax I knew from the series, I began to get even more interested. The best episodes were those of the last half. The attempted assasination on Griffith, Guts' own assasination assignment, Griffith's courting of the Princess, and Casca's growing connection to Guts are all pivotal to the story. There's a particular scene in the final chapters of the book when Guts is forced to take some liberties in order to save Casca's life that awakens him to her vulnerabilities. In turn, Casca finds her own piece of mind by confiding in him why she joined the Band of the Hawk. Most of Guts' growth as a character is seen through action. The man isn't much of a thinker and understanding his quest for purpose (and, then, vengence) is dependent mainly on the reader's observations of the actions of Guts and those he cares for. To finally get some introspective thought from the man adds much to the overall picture of his life. All in all, a great book... a great series, but be prepared. In the next few volumes, things will come to a head. Men will die, characters you've grown to love may pay the ultimate price, and before one man can ascend to heights unimagined, great tragedy must befall him and those around him.
The Story Expands...
Hmm... Let's see, where should I start. In volume 5 the drama and story begin to come together a lot more than in the previous volumes, so the tales unfolds at a much faster rate. The key moment in volume 5 is the confrontation with Nosferatu Zodd, who is a key character in the story. Pay close attention to the warning he gives Guts. Okay now on to volume 6... Many things take place that cannot be missed out on if you wish to get into the ever-expanding world of Berserk. For one Guts is given an assassination attempt by Griffith to kill General Julius, the brother of the king, and Guts learns of the Band of the Hawks past from Casca while they are lost behind enemy lines, but I won't explain how they got there or anything. Also, the MOST important moment in this book occurs when Griffith is having a normal conversation with Princess Charlotte, which our protagonist Guts overhears. This conversation sets the wheels of causality/fate in motion which sends Guts on a path other than the one he is currently seeking. He decides to do this to please Griffith. But in the end, it only leads to death, and the climax of the Band of the Hawk story Arc, beginning in Volume 12 and ending in 13/14.
One Star
This is crazy!?! Why would I spend $74 on a used manga?
Like all Berserk books
Like all Berserk books, this one is excellent. The only reason it only get 4 stars instead of 5 is the price; they are a bit pricey for something that will take you an hour to go through.
Five Stars
Purchased as a gift for someone who is collecting the series. He really enjoys them.
