Very moving and validating!!
I just finished the audiobook and have the paperback so I can take notes. I have a horse and dog rescue and am a HUGE advocate of listening to your animals, connecting with them and learning from them. In fact, we have a Veteran program that connects individuals with these magnificent animals for mutual healing. I know, from my own experiences, how powerful the lessons can be from horses. I’ve had horses save my life, both literally and figuratively. The stories in this book are moving, powerful and validating. I recommend it to everyone!
The world needs more "Horse Whispers" like Buck Brannaman's
Believe, Buck's follow up to "Far Away Horses by Buck Brannaman; The Adventures and Wisdom of One of America's Most Renowned Horsemen" You will want to read "Faraway Horses" before reading this book to get a full understanding. "Believe", is a collaboration of students stories about how Buck's teaching with their horses have not only helped their horses but about how it helped them with their personal struggles, discoveries and journey's. God allows some people to travel through the really tough, dark, and desperate trials and rewards those with special gifts to take into the world to bless and heal others. Buck is one of those special souls who are able to touch the hearts and souls of both horse and people to make a difference in their lives. It gives the reader inspiration, hope, and teaches life lessons to live by while touching the human heart, spirit, and soul of both horse and rider on so many levels. It is sure to touch and bless you. The world needs more "Horse Whispers" like Buck Brannaman's. I wish to one day be able to meet and work with Buck. I have read his other book "Faraway Horses" which is different in that it tells Buck's personal story and the basis to the movie "Buck" and the movie Horse Whisper" staring Robert Redford, which was based on Buck. "The fidelity of a horse is a precious gift demanding no less binding moral responsibilities than the friendship of a human being. The bond with a true horse is as lasting as the ties of this earth can ever be, a fact which should be noted by anyone who decides to acquire a equine friend." Conrad Lorenz
BELIEVE: A HORSEMAN'S JOURNEY, by Buck Brannaman-adviser to movie THE HORSE WHISPERER
BELIEVE: A HORSEMAN'S JOURNEY I feel was written from the heart of Buck Brannaman. The book is inspirational reading, for this man has emerged from his traumatic childhood experiences with a gift of incredible empathy and understanding for horses, as well as for people. Most of us love cowboys, and as Robert Redford commented, as I remember from a YouTube video, he found Buck Brannaman--hired as advisor to Redford's movie THE HORSE WHISPERER--to be the "real thing." This book follows a young child's growth into maturity, emotionally, physically, and somehow, no doubt through his foster parents, he developed incredible character, as well as expert horsemanship. I have shared this book with another, and will recommend it to anyone and everyone whenever I have the opportunity. I would also recommend reading first, though, Buck Brannaman's book, THE FARAWAY HORSES. His profession, as he gives horse clinics, as he says, to help horses with people problems, is a view into cowboy culture and the minds of horses that I found to be truly fascinating.
Anything Buck Writes I'm Reading!
For me as a teacher, I want to learn from other teachers and I consider Buck a master teacher. I saw him once at a clinic he was giving and learned more from him about the art of teaching in hour and half than I can quantify. Great book about breakthroughs. Inspiring.
Fantastic book!!!!!
I loved this book. Buck is a wonderful writer and he helps with horses and people. You have to BELIEVE!!! Buy it you will love it!!! You can put his advice in your life even if you don't own a horse.. I don't now, and I learned alot!!
Amazing book / read even for non-horse lovers
Lots of horse lovers here where I live. I've never been one. Rather afraid of horses all my life and when on a 2-hour ride every time my niece came to visit me in Yosemite National Park because she LOVES horses, I'd think, "I could be doing soooo many other things. This is okay, but not worth my sore, tired legs/thighs/butt for a couple days after." I still don't want to ride them...just wasn't raised around any horses...but I DO Love them now and see their tremendous value and benefit to people and our world. They are so much like dogs, though seen as a "prey" animal, in that they offer Wonderful Therapeutic and Healing benefits to ALL types of hurting humans....abused adults and children, battered women, ADHD people, etc...etc.... Found this book after seeing the movie BUCK. EXCELLENT dvd!
Horseman and life philosopher
I have read this book over and over. Not only does Buck and his students recount their horse experiences, they also apply them to their journey in life. I've learned a lot from this book about what it takes to connect with your horse and also with other people. His sage advice gives hope and comfort if you just believe in yourself and trust the goodness of others. Horses are honest and we can learn a lot from them about being honest. The old saying, "A horse is good for the inside of a person" so to speak is so true. This book is a good investment, and you will not be disappointed!
Best book ever!!!!!
There is not enough good things that I can say about this book. It is heart wrenching and makes me yearn for having the type of relationships that Buck believes is possible for both animals and humans. The ability for kindness to persevere over hatred and pain. Asking versus demanding can achieve so much more in all different types of interactions with anything. Buck is truly a gift. I cannot wait to read his other book, The Faraway Horses, to learn more.
Fascinating!
Wonderful man that turned suffering from his youth into an understanding man to help other people as well as animals. Outstanding. Saw DVD first, then purchased his life story.

Buck Brannaman
I loved the true stories of what working with and learning from Buck has meant for horses and their people. The first time I ever watched Buck I was mesmerized. You can feel the connection he makes with each horse he works with. The first clinic I watched left me wanting more knowledge and more and more... My dream is to continue to study Bucks methods and find the nerve to ride in some of his clinics if given the opportunity. You don't have to be a horse lover to enjoy this book. There are lessons and words to make you think about life and it's meaning in these pages. Thank you Buck and students of Buck for sharing your stories!
LOVE reading Bucks books
LOVE reading Bucks books. They are well written, heart felt, easy to read and often learn something about myself or how I can better live my life by reading Bucks words of wisdom learnt on a tough but now inspiring road. No nonsense plain speaking practical authentic honest voice. Someone with a beautiful way and innate intuitive connection with horses. Is beautiful to watch.
Buck is a god
I recommend this book to all horse people as a guide to understanding your horse and how to develop and enhance your partnership. Buck treats horses with such compassion and gentle insight, always looking at the situation from the horse's point of view. The genius of Brannaman is that his insights apply to understanding and developing relationships with anyone and everyone, horse or human, so it's definitely a book for everyone, horse person or not. This book is written in segments by Brannaman's students, with an introduction to each segment by Brannaman, and I wasn't sure I'd enjoy that as much as I loved The Faraway Horses - which was written totally in Brannaman's voice. But the impact that exposure to him had on each of their lives was so powerful, and so relate-able, that I read it in one sitting. Buck Brannaman is an inspiration, without ever being preachy or patronizing. Read it!!
A very useful book who anyone who has ever had even a slight problem with a horse.
Don’t be concerned if you do not ride in a Western saddle. I was in one about 37 years ago. I started with hunters, had one jumper, went onto eventing, and now only do dressage. He covers, with people telling their own stories about their horses, many different problems. He also covers problems he has encountered with riders. It is very likely that the problem your horse is having is related to what you are doing and YOU CAN CHANGE and LEARN. It is a wonderful and most useful book.
Good book for your horse knowledge foundation
The stories in this book are things I have been through or am going through with my horse which shows me that I'm not the only one going through "problems" with their mount. Buck gives some great advice in this book through true life stories from people like us who are living with a horse and don't quite understand why they do what they do..Want to read how others have made it through those difficult and perplexing actions of their horse, then this is the book for you.
great lessons for life
I haven't read Faraway Horses, but plan to, so this is my first Buck Brannaman book. Buck's warmth and love for horses(and humanity) shine through in this collection of students that tell the story of how Buck, through horses, helped them heal. I believe all of nature can heal of if our hearts are open; some people climb mountains, some people(Wild) go on walkabouts, some rescue dogs, but in the end, we can all heal through animals. I've been trying to figure out why horses are so special, and I think it's because they give us the BIG healing. Anyone with half a brain, and knows nothing about horses should have a healthy dose of fear. As Buck says, the back legs can hurt you, and the front legs can kill you, so you should be cautious. What Buck does, is to help us figure out what a horse is thinking so we can begin to not be afraid. I've learned from this book that horses are a mirror for us, and emotional mirror. They can tell us what we're really all about because they are sensitive enough to feel our hurts and fears rolling off us in what must be waves of emotion to these brilliant animals. As prey, a horse depends on trusting its intuition enough to react instantly. This probably developed because the only horses that survived through the ages, were the ones who could get away from what was trying to eat them, and that was the horses that trusted their intuition. They still do, which is how they deal with people. As Buck says, a horse doesn't care what you are on the outside, only who you are at your core. I'm sure that most people don't have anyone in their life that seems them as they truly are and then accepts them for their actions and nothing else. As I read through these stories, each with a different lesson that a horse had taught them in their lives, I learned the gift that horses are to us. To get a horse to trust you, is no different than taming a grizzly or a tiger, and then get it to let you ride it. Horses can help us overcome our fears. "Buck showed me how fear can undermine everything you do, how foolish it is to be impatient, and how cruel it is to withhold affection and respect." loc. 787 The thing with working with horses is that what you learn can translate to other parts of your life and how you treat other people, most importantly our children. "It's important when working with horses to make the wrong thing difficult and the right thing easy. . . But be careful not the make the wrong thing completely impossible, because the horse has to have the opportunity to make the mistake in order to learn the lesson." loc. 1232. How can this not apply to children? Especially to day when parents don't want their children to ever get hurt so they protect them at every turn, until the only mistakes the children can make is when they are much older, and the consequences for mistakes much graver. I loved the movie Buck, and the Horse Whisperer, and I plan on someday taking my horse into one of Buck's classes. This man has so much to teach us about how to treat each other, and how to make the world a better place.

A wonderful, kind man's journey...
I've met Buck, and he signed my book. I've also watched the documentary (also available on Amazon) called "Buck." This is the story of a truly kind and gentle man--I think everyone can learn something from his journey--I know I did! Thank you Buck!

some good points;
Good for Buck
Buck's had an amazing life journey. Not much new in this book if you've read his others or saw the documentary but worth the read. I just have so much admiration for what he's made out of himself that I'm not very objective about him.
Touching
This is a spiritual and touching book about how horses heal broken people if you let them . A beautiful book
Great

I want more...
From the very first word until the very last period I was hooked and left wanting more. I truly believe in my heart that Buck has found the secret to living life to the fullest and I pray that one day I can have half the relationship with my horse that he has with all the horses that have come into his life. So Buck...I believe!
Great stories about Bucks students.
Another great book by Buck Brennan. Lots of his students problems resolved and their stories.
Great Life Lessons from Buck & His Horse Sense
Have a great appreciation for Buck, his life and Story and his whisperer way with horses: great life and relationship lessons for humans, too.
self help
After reading The Faraway Horses, I had to read Believe. It is a nice compilation of stories from some of Buck Brannaman's students. I would recommend it to anyone, as it is a comforting book that restores hope. Knowing there are people learning from Buck how to peacefully treat horses and fellow humans is heartwarming.
just ok
I definitely liked the Faraway Horses better than this book. This book is a series of stories of people with various problems in their lives, going on and on about how Buck "saved" them.... it almost seemed like an endless commercial for Buck and it got tiresome.
Good read
Good stories and good lessons from Buck Brannaman. He has great ability to reach horse and rider and to help people see what horses can teach you.
Wonderfully written Must read
Love this book. Totally insightful into not only horses but people as well . Excellent read. Thank you .

Buck is amazing. A fine person and brilliant horseman. Am ordering his DVD set and am planning a clinic visit next summer. Brilliant. He learned from the best.
Great for any horse lover...
I really enjoyed this book. It's a collection of stories people have shared about being impacted by Buck at his clinics. His introductions to the stories themselves were also inspiring. Great for any horse lover, but they're also encouraging for folks in all walks of life.

Loved it
This book has Buck introduce a subject and then share a story from one of his students about how what they learned has changed their lives. What he shows people is how your horse is a mirror of you. You can not be fake, this makes you change your relationships in all areas of your life.
Geri F re the book, BELIEVE
I purchased this book as a birthday gift for my friend who is an equestrienne. Neither she nor I have read it yet - but knowing about Buck Brannaman, she was delighted to receive it and I was delighted with the few chapters I read before presenting to her for her birthday.
Interesting book!
This is an interesting book if you are interested in horses and those who work with horses. My niece owns horses and I see her as a kind of horse whisperer. Her enthusiasm for horses has gotten me interested in how to communicate with these wonderful creatures. I loved the book.
Excellent read for horse lovers and humans alike!
Enjoyed reading the individual stories and Buck's message. Anyone who reads this book will be able to relate to one all of the personal experiences shared. Wonderful!

Inspirational for ALL - not just horsepeople.
Even if you are not a dyed in the wool horse lover you will really enjoy this book. Buck Brannaman is a rare breed of horseman just like Ray Hunt was and his insight with horses AND people is inspiring. Great stories that are really uplifting to us all. GREAT BOOK

Continues Where "The Faraway Horses Left Off"
In "Believe," people share their stories about how Buck and his life has inspired them to make changes and improve their own lives. Getting beyond your past isn't a matter of fighting it, it's a matter of simply releasing it, and these stories give some real-life examples that can help you along your path.

Awesome book- love Buck and the work he does, especially for people
The horses friend and the horsemans as well...
I can happily confess that this book came at the exact moment I needed the knowledge inside for my life. Buck is an over comer in life and that's what most of us long to be. He role-models the way excellently. Great layout of the stories and examples of how Buck enlightened the people he worked with and their horses. I look forward to someday meeting and gleaning wisdom and just sharing some time with Buck Brannaman.
I can hear Buck's voice as I read...

Believe A Horseman's Journey
My husband enjoyed this book so much, he kept telling me what he had read, Buck Brannaman's story is amazing, it is a book of encouragement, that whatever happens to us we can overcome.
A generous gift that everyone should read.
Believe makes you understand the symmetry between our personality traits and our relationships with not only horses but with people as well. If you listen, then begin to believe and hopefully begin follow the messages that Buck Brannaman unselfishly gives to the reader. Listen and follow his knowledge is indeed a rare treasure. Embrace it.

Inspiring stories from Buck's students. A must read for horse people.
We're just all human...
We all have our situations and our fears. This book highlights the back stories of some of Buck's students. There are pieces of almost every story in the book that I could identify with.
Truly a Horseman
This book is a real heartfelt account of Buck's life. I loved it. He is a gem and a great lover of horses and their well being.

Great Book even Greater Man
Amazing book to read for those who have may have struggled with their horses in different ways, I always wanted that special connection with my horse but I was more spoiling him with kindness and treats in an effort to get him to bond with me, now I know there is a way to acheive it without spoiling them or resorting to force, just read or watch anything to do with Buck Brannaman.

Buck's way has changed my life.
Please read my review for Buck's book "The Faraway Horses," and read that book before you read "Believe." I can't say enough good things about Buck-- his way has truly changed my life. This book has the added dimension of having every other chapter be a true account from individuals whose lives have been changed and affected for the better by learning about Buck's way. Highly recommend.

Buck a true horseman
If you have every had a fear of dealing with horses this is a great book. I remember wihen the book and movie came out and it was right after I had a serious horse accident. It took me about a year before I could read the book the Horse Whisperer. But this is the actual story and I now plan on attending one of his seminars.

A collection of students' stories
Interesting insights from students of Buck's methods. I enjoyed the tales, and one of them actually made me recognize a similar issue my horse is now experiencing.
a pleasure to read
Instructional and easy going to read. It is a pleasure to reopen it again and again. Good for people who love horses and ...people!
Wonderful story about a man who has understood
Wonderful story about a man who has understood, and how he applies that knowledge. A must-read for anyone who loves horses and wants to love them better.
I loved it.
It was a very interesting book and well written. I loved it.
Dissappointing.......
Not at all what I expected. I found it sappy and not informative. I'm a horse lover and am always looking for ways to connect with my horse, but this was about people's life experiences more than their horse experiences, I found it way over the top in the sappy department. I expected more from B. Brannaman.

Buck
An amazing horse man. Have many books now and also his movie. I don't tire of his way of teaching.
Believe
Why do some many make things so complicated and it isn't? Believe is believing you can communicate with a horse, an animal that is bigginer than you are and find a partner and relationship with that horse. It is made so simple and pure from one of the real horseman around, Buck Brannaman. Believe in what is right and true through mutural respect and understanding--a true relationship with your horse is there if you can let it happen.

I'm in love with this book and have fallen in love with horses all over again! The documentary is awesome!
Believe by Buck Brannaman
I bought this book after watching the DVD 'Buck' -- this man is astounding, in print or on screen. I've enjoyed reading it, though I prefer watching him in motion. Recommend it for horse lovers, and those who like a heart-warming story.
Believe
Not exciting, but refreshing I think! He reminds you of things you should already know, but might have forgotten. I belong to a herding group and we all enjoyed it!
A fluffy promotional piece
I really enjoyed reading Buck's first book, The Faraway Horses and really liked Buck the movie. I was looking forward to reading this book and thought since each chapter was about overcoming a specific issue he would talk about how to work through those issues. Instead, it was a series of stories people had written Buck about how great he is and how they helped to changed their lives prefaced by Buck's commentary on the story. There is nothing deep or substantial to the book, just a lot of fluff. Some of the "lessons learned" were repeats from his first book. It's a light read but if you want to borrow it from friend or the library but I wouldn't buy it as I would not read it a second time.
Its something for people with low self esteem looking for ...
Its something for people with low self esteem looking for a horse guy to help them out in life ... ? A little confusing, specially if you wanted to learn about the trainer. and what he does with the animals. Oh well ... maybe next time.
This book is great
I ordered this book when I first watched Buck's video. I fell in love with his method. The book has wonderful information and the price is good. I would highly recommend this book to any horse lover.
BBuck's Story Needs Reading
An interesting history of a man who continues to have a serious impact on western horse scene, Old time pictures interesting.
One Star
Of all the clinicians... Buck Brannaman is one that I would not pay to watch...
At a loss...
...as to how this book should be described. I've watched the video Buck but not read Faraway Horses and it's truly been awhile since I've been on the back of a horse. Are there life lessons in the wisdom Buck and his students pass along? Absolutely! Do those life lessons have practical day to day application? Again, Yes. Is the book well written and well constructed? Not really. Did I enjoy it? Yes and No. Can I recommend it? Not sure either way. If one has a driving interest in Buck Brannaman and his philosophy, I suppose it's a must read. If one has a passing interest in how mankind interacts with animals and the life lessons they can teach us, it's worthy of consideration. BUT, one must be willing to slowly read between the lines and examine what's trying to be presented to truly be able to make this worthwhile. It is NOT a book that will appeal to everyman and many will see it as not worth the effort to read.
If you love horses
Believe is a compilation of testimonies from owners whose relationship with their horses have been transformed by gentle listening, observing and responding to their horse. Buck believes, and those who practice his methods agree, that relationships with people can also be changed as the skills help people understand themselves and how they respond to others. From the introduction: "the message of this book isn't really about despair or trouble. It's about winning a victory over the many burdens in our lives...There will always be heartaches and despair to deal with, but it's how we deal with them that really shapes us as individuals, and determines what kind of influence we're going to have on those around us." Regarding fears between horses and owners, Buck writes: "I do the best I can to try to eliminate the fear that paralyzes riders and their horses." Preceding each testimony in the book is a summary offered by Brannaman noting problems he observed between the horse and rider along with the solutions presented. If you love horses, or believe in dealing gently with animals (and humans), then I recommend Believe: A Horseman's Journey. To see my full blog review:[...]
Buck Is It
There is no one like Buck Brannaman. "The Faraway Horses" tells you his life story. "Believe" explains how much he has helped people through working with their horses. The documentary DVD "Buck" pretty much morphs the two books visually. I recommend them all but please realize these are not training books or video. Get the 7 Clinics with Buck Brannaman: Complete Set 1-7 or his "Making of a Bridle Horse" series which are fabulous for how-to training. Buck needs to be seen in person to fully appreciate who he is and how different his approach from any other living horseman. A quiet and humble man who loves horses at the deepest level. Those who embrace his teachings are forever changed.
I wish I had read the low reviews first
When shopping, I often rely on the number of positive reviews. Wish I had read the low reviews first. Complete waste of my time. I guess if you are a Buck fan and want to hear validating stories, this is the book for you. However if you are coming from a trainer's perspective hoping to hear about his methods and techniques, forget it. I cant finish the book. It's like reading / listening to hours of promotional hype to get you to go to a Buck B. clinic. Worse than a half hour info-mercial.
Promotional Mush.
I really enjoyed reading Buck's first book, Far Away Horses, so I was looking forward to reading this book. I was surprised to find that this book is just a lot of testimonials from Buck's former students gushing about how he has changed their lives. I was quite suprised that he would put out a book like this. I think he is a great horseman that doesn't need to push his worth by publishing a book filled with praises for himself. Essentially all this book does is pat him on the back. Maybe he wanted to point out how learning to connect with your horse can change a person's attitude, but I came away feeling a bit turned off because of so much gushing.
Exellent
This book is full of beneficial insights into horsemanship. Buck tells true stories to make the situation relevant.
THIS MAN CHANGES LIVES OF HORSES AND PEOPLE
I have been fortunate enough to see several of Buck Brannaman's clinics. and I know he is the most gifted horseman I know. However, I did not realize how much positive impact he has had on people's personal lives as well. This book tells the stories of several people whose lives have been changed by their involvement with Buck and his impact on their horses and their own way of thinking. It is very clever in the way Buck quietly introduces each story and still gives you a great lesson in horsemanship. If you want to understand more about yourself and your relationship to your horse, this book is a MUST! I also loved his first book, The Faraway Horse. It taught me a lot about horses and I've been riding for 40 years.
Vignettes offered up by people who have attended his clinics
Buck Brannaman offers a collection of stories which he lightly expands on and offers some minor commentary. It is a quick read, and for people who know about Brannaman, you will enjoy his insights.
Amazing!
Incredible insight. Buck and his students' stories are wonderful and convey their experience and what they learned. Great lessons to learn and live by no matter with horse or human.
Dusty's mom
This book is the basis for the movie "BUCK", and is a must read if you've seen the movie. It will make you laugh, and may even make you shed a tear or two. Not just for horse lovers---anyone would enjoy this if you have a compassion for animals...would give it 10 stars if I could.
I didn't think he could top 'Faraway Horses' but he ...
I didn't think he could top 'Faraway Horses' but he did!!...this book is so inspirational!!!..... a must read, even if you don't own a horse.....it's a LIFE book!!!!!
Painful to finish
My wife gave me this book at Christmas. We saw the documentary and really enjoyed it. I have not read Faraway Horses. Believe is simply accounts written by individuals who have attended Buck's training events. THeir stories are not particularly well written, interesting or moving. They are boring. I am about 3/4 done with the book and I don't know if I can finish. They claim some where in the beginning of the book that this is for horse people as well as non-horse people. I have found that the narratives are very technical in regards to handling the horse. Since I am not a horse person these passages (which are 75% of the book) are meaningless to me. The people really do not go into any depth about how their lives have changed since gaining Buck's influence. They just state that now that they know how to connect with their horse they have been able to sort out other issues they are dealing with in their lives. Buck's preview's before each chapter are just as painstaking. He is repetitive and his contributions offer little insight. In one section he lists 7 or 9 qualities of a good horse handler that can also be equated to dealing with your human relationships. It was so contrived I could feel myself cringing as I read it. Buck is an interesting man and he has a very interesting, inspirational story. This book tries to turn him into a motivational author. He is not. The movie is worth seeing. Skip Believe.
Buck - great at everything he does
I have seen Buck in person and after seeing many self proclaimed "horse whisperers" knew he was something special. His writing is no different and both his books are not only a must read for people with horses, but anyone who wants a good story.
Great book
I love the stories about regular people talking about their experiences. Some of those stories mirror me. I was able to pull a lot of confidence hearing about how they conquered their fears. Just reading this book has made my life with my young horse better!
horses heal people
Buck has co-written a wonderful dedication to the healing power in the connection between horses and people. Having attended quite a few of his clinics and visited with him several times, I have seen how dedicated he is to the horse and to helping those people who are truly looking for a better way, not only in their horsemanship, but in their lives as well. Well worth the read. I gave it four stars instead of 5, because Far away horses was better....sorry Buck.
Five Stars
Loved it.
A Horseman's Journey
Well written with feeling. A fast read. Enjoyable but nothing deep or of substantial substance.
believe;a horseman's journey
it was interesting for the most part.not what t was looking for.i was wanting more detail training.but enjoyed the different stories about other peoples horses!
Should Be Titled: Unbelievable! "A horse is smarter than a human,..." pg. 39
"A horse is smarter than a human,..." pg. 39, yep, that's the sort of stuff that's in this silly book. Ever hear of anthropomorphism? Anthropomorphism is the attribution of human motivation, characteristics, or behavior to inanimate objects, animals, or natural phenomena. Buck and his crew that helped write this book believe that horses not only have human motivations, characteristics and behavior, horses also have super human powers because a horse is smarter than a human and a horse can read a human's mind. "My horse trusts me now, I can tell that he knows everything that I am thinking." pg. 109. If you are a novice or experienced horse person who wants to learn about horses for real, stay away from books like this one. Horses are not smarter than people and horses cannot read anyone's mind. Horses and horsemanship is much simpler and easier than this silly book makes it all out to be. If you want to learn the best information available about the real nature of horses and horsemanship read, "Equine Behavior", by Paul McGreevy and "Equitation Science", by Paul McGreevy and Andrew McLean.
Aspire to be like Buck Brannaman. Your life will improve dramatically.
If you like to hear lessons in life by someone that has lived through a tough up bringing but turned out to be a loving man then look no further than Buck Brannaman. I don't say this often because there are so few men around like Buck but we all should aspire to be like him and have the attitude that he has. I am sure he is not perfect and like us all has his flaws but he has surmounted hardship that would have destroyed most others and it would have turned them into damaged adults but not Buck Brannaman.
Great read
Quite a short book but cost effective if you buy the Kindle version. I couldn't put it down, but then I'd seen the film on Buck on BBC4 (catch again on iPlayer or buy the DVD on Amazon) and was hooked anyway. The writing style flows well and Buck's voice comes through - each chapter features a different clinic attendees story prefaced by an introduction by Buck. The first part of the book focuses on Buck's story. Well worth the price and I've started rereading some of the chapters already.
Brilliant book for everyone!
This is a fabulous book for people who like to know more about horses, but it also touches and discusses human relationships and how most of the time the horses mirror your own self. Each chapter consists of a foreword from Buck and then a story of one of his students/clinic goers. Each story teaches something more about our relationship with horses, the difficulties, and how they were overcome, as well as the personal journey of the people. The processes are sometimes long and sometimes shorter, and this is really informative for your own situations with your own horses. It is not really a 'how-to' manual, but at the same time you do get tips and information that you can use in your own life. It's subtle teaching. I would recommend this one for anyone, who is keen to improve their relationship with their horses. It's simply brilliant.
Great book
Buck Brannaman is without doubt the complete horseman. This book shows that there is so much to learn from horses about life and how to interact with one another. Buck is a true hero, an example to follow.
Inspirational
Buck Brannaman is inspirational. I don't have horses but his philosophy is about life in all its aspect and our way of greeting the world - whether it be people or animals. If this interests you, try looking at his video http://shop.dogwoof.com/products/buck
Buck Brannaman
Absolutely fascinating, thought provoking and leaves you wanting more. More in the way of success stories, the ones where man and horse work in harmony, with no pain, fear or resentment. Loved the music, but the writing is fuzzy so cannot find who did the title music and songs. A lovely film.
Great book
This book is about a master natural horseman, a guy who has an incredible incite into and a true affinity with the equine species. A real true caring human being with no pretensions and a very minute ego if any at all. A great read from a great horseman!
A horseman's Journey
Inspiring and beautifully written book. Can identify with a lot of the experiences shared. A joy to read whether you are interested in horses or not. So much to discover.
For your horse's sake.....
Everyone who has horse or pony should read Buck Brannaman. Your life will be easier and better and your horse's life will be the best it can be if you just try a bit of Buck. We have, even with our top show jumpers, and it truly works!

great
awesome!
Buck Brannaman is a huge inspiration to me and has been for a few years now. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who has horses.
Wonderful and inspiring!
I love this book because it shares some very personal messages and stories from Buck as well as many of those who have visited his clinics. I love the combination of real life stories and how they can influence individual people and those around them. What I generally like is that you learn through Buck is that there is no rigid horse manual or straight forward solution. He analyses each and every situation so that anyone can relate to it and understand it. Perfect for an impatient person like myself :)
Learning to work with people and horses in a positive and gentle manner
I have always enjoyed the story and work of Buck Brannaman. I admire how he has taken a difficult childhood and used his life lessons to help people and all those beautiful horses who live with us on the earth. His work with horses has helped me as I work with my Standardbred gelding. His kind and knowledgeable approach to horse training gave me hope to successfully work with my horse, Samson. Believe me I needed all the positive help I could get. I always learn something from other people's stories and bring them to my relationship with Samson.
Meraviglioso
Hmm
Not quite what I was expecting or hoping for...my fault, no doubt. It's far less of a book on training horses, and more of a somewhat fractured autobiography/spotlight on clients writing on their experiences with Buck and the effect on their horses. Philosophical would be the best description.
Magnificent captivating couldn't put it down
I believe this is a book that anybody should read It is such an inspirational book I bought this book after I watched the movie Buck The movie and the book go hand in hand Buck Brannamanis such an amazing amazing man Watch the movie Documentary Buck and read his books Trust me your lives and your children's lives and your horses lives will change for the better Really a MUST READ

Ok
I love it
Buck has a way of putting information together to help not only the horse but the trainer as well. Very introspective.
disappointing
I was hoping for some revelations re dealing with horses like Hunt, Dorrance or even Roberts. All this is a compilation of mushy accolades.
Amazing
I'm still reading it...love it !
