Bee Manual: The Complete Step-by-Step Guide to Keeping Bees

This book is one of the clearest manuals on beekeeping I have ever seen - I wish that I had had it years ago when I first started to keep bees. Just about everything you need to know is here and illustrated clearly. If you are unable to be taught by an actual beekeeper in the field, this book is the way to go. Excellent.

I always read the literature list in the backs of the beekeeping books that I buy to find a new and interestingly useful book I did not see before. This book I found in the back of the BBKA guide to beekeeping book so i decided to look it up. It seemed interesting so I bought it. This book is a great little manual for the aspiring and starting off beekeepers. It is full of almost entirely photos with little captions and blocks of text that step by step guide you through what you are doing and introduce one to things that may be unfamiliar. I highly recommend this book to any aspiring keeper.

What a great book! It was initially bought as a bit of a silly present with the idea of buying a proper reference book later. It has however surpassed our expectations and is great. This is our constant reference book and has got use through a series of problems in our first and second year of bee keeping. There is good amount of detail and some brilliant images that help in detail to tell the story. The book was read in full when it first arrived and now is used as reference when needed it has covered all the main areas, I have not found answers missing when I have a question . I love the set up of this book it is clear and concise and in a world of just googling it I have found it often better to use this and then ask google later for any finer points. I have now bought the sheep version of this series mainly down to the fact that this book was so well set out.

Good value book (was reduced) that arrived the next day as promised. It is hardback, good quality and is easy to read and is also well illustrated. It is well written without masses of jargon and in plain English. The format and lay out is great with sections clearly marked and the text is suitably separated by clear pictures making it a very easy read. I may be biased but the book invites you in to read and encourages you to keep going. It is a book that you can put down and pick up easily as there are natural stopping points throughout. It is a great book to start with to give you a good foundation knowledge of the bee world. I would certainly recommend this book to the aspiring bee keeper

Bought as 1/3 with the Dummies and BBKA book. In hindsight it was quite an interesting read, but didnt cover anything the other two offered and it was less detailed. Suitable for someone interested, but not a beekeper.

I’m a beginner. Lots of pictures and simple explanation. Swarm control is every beginner’s concern. This is probably the most difficult area to get your head round and if/when this happens to me, I will have to follow the instructions in the book. I read it cover to cover and am sure that I will refer to it every so often. I liked the month by month descriptions of what you should be doing for your bees.

This was recommended by my local bee keepers association for their 'Introduction to Bee Keeping' course that I am attending (May - Aug 2017). It's an excellent book, very clear helped by the many photos. If you are thinking of keeping bees then definitely get this book

As a prospective novice beekeeper an experienced keeper suggested I read this so I did. I learned a lot and I'm still keen to give it a go albeit with a better understanding of the possible pitfalls of beekeeping.

A great introduction to bee keeping with lots of photo's and information from choice of hive, siting, introducing bees, care and maintenance, harvesting honey, swarm control etc etc. The book is expensive but worth the money. I'm not sure I'd recommend buying from SWBooks as I did, the delivery was extremely slow. But I thoroughly recommend the book if you are thinking of keeping bees.

Top-class introduction to keeping bees covering all the main topics you need. Not only would this be an excellent giude to have at your side as a beginner, it may persuade one or two readers that they would possibly be better off buying local honey and enjoying it rather than getting into something they will not be able to manage well (i.e. keeping their own hives!).

Haven't read any of the book. I will later in the year but got to say. Superb quality, fast postage. I'd imagine it being a very good book. Alot of beekeepers on social media groups recommend this book Hense the purchase.

We're happy to recommend this book to our new beekeepers (in North Wales). We previously recommended Hooper's Bees and Honey, but this is now out of date. The Warings' book covers all the basics. Very good photographs. Good info on pests and diseases, useful reading list and contacts list.

I was advised by my local beekeeping society to buy this book as a beginner with my first hive. I think it’s excellent and very detailed. The drawings are extremely helpful to help identify all parts of the hive and a good grounding of knowledge all round. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of keeping bees or like me had to learn super fast.

This is an excellent book for someone thinking of starting Beekeeping as it details all the early knowledge you will need. Next you join the local Beekeeping Association and sign up to one of their Beginners courses.

Fantastic starter book. Included anything you need to know to get started and makes you aware of more advance topics. Pictures of disease and diagrams of artificial swarming are great.

I think this book is a must for all potential bee keepers. It is a very nice book to read with plenty of photos to break up the text. It is easy to understand and well put together. It will explain lots of things before you ever get your hands on a bee hive!

Have not read it all yet but what I have it is a great book, typical Haynes manual it covers just about all you need to know to get going !!! Great pictures loads of easy to understand information. Looking forward to finishing reading then it goes on the bookshelf for future reference and advice. Cant wait to get the bees in the future.

Clear and concise

As a reference book for budding beekeepers, this is an essential tome. It's very clearly written and laid out, and I've leant a lot from it. The only reason I can't award it five stars is that I don't yet have any bees (coming soon) so can't personally vouch for the quality of its content. That said, it carries a very high reputation in the beekeeper community and is frequently recommended, so I think you're on solid ground if you decide to buy a copy.

With excellent description and colour photos must be one of the best books around for beekeeping. Particularly very good for beginners.

Didn't feel I had got value for money. It is quite informative but the "Beekeeping for Dummies" is a much better purchase. For the money I would rather get the new second edition of the BBKA guide to beekeeping instead, which incidentley I have just bought !!

I found this book to be a bit heavy going to be honest. It seems to make too many assumptions about your level of knowledge. I will probably go back to the book after reading the Dummies book (see below) as I anticipate having several reference books to help with the start of my beekeeping journey. I then decided to buy "Beekeeping for Dummies" and would highly recommend that book. It is pitched at just the right level of detail for the new starter, with regular dashes of humour thrown in which also helps the explanation. If you are new to beekeeping or just thinking about the possibility of becoming a beekeeper get the Dummies book first and then look at other reference books.
