Bake from Scratch Vol. 3

I have all three of these volumes, and for some reason keep expecting a little more from each one. These books are beautiful in all their pictures, instructions, etc. However I always feel there is a lacking in their recipes. I can't believe it took three volumes to put a croissant recipe in, and am disappointed there is not almond pastry cream recipe to go with it. It would be nice to have a few variations for the croissants once they go stale. I am also disappointed that there are repeat recipes. There is recipe for Stollen in the first volume, and in the third we are given a stollen wreath and mini stollen loaves. It seems a little counter productive to put 2 of the almost exact same recipes side-by-side instead of offering various shaping methods in volume one. And for the cake recipes, most of the pictures of the cakes look dry, including the marbled bundt cake. You can find a hummingbird cake recipe literally anywhere. I think this collection of volumes has more linzer cookie recipes that I've ever seen. I think my final comment on the book is that it is worth the price I paid for it, most of the recipes are beautiful and there are definitely a few of them I will make, I just thought they would be a little more helpful in some areas as far as actual tips and technique, a little more inspired recipes, and if you're going to put a recipe for Apricot Noyaux Skolebrod, it would just be really nice, genuinely thoughtful, to put the pronunciation underneath it and a little more informative of the history of the pastry and what it is. Not all of us have been to pastry school in France and would like to educate ourselves a little more on what these goods are. If we're trying to self-teach through these books a little background would be nice. It just comes off as a little pretentious. Again, I like these volumes.. They're beautiful. But if they could be a little more considerate to the consumer, that would be fantastic!

Just as good as volume 2, better then volume 1 (At least for my tastes)

I have already made a decent number of recipes from this book. Just like the previous books it has a picture for every recipe. I have made: Sourdough loaf cake (better with age, don't over bake) Sticky toffee pudding (Very popular, though I wish I had actually used unsalted butter like it said) Double Gingerbread scones (Decent) Orange butter cookies (quite good, I adapted the recipe so did 1/2 orange and 1/2 peppermint by adding 3 crushed peppermint candies to the dough instead of zest and peppermint Andies for chocolate, both were great) Sourdough cheese crackers (Decent, better with age, not a bad use for discard sourdough)

Another Success

A gorgeous volume. Beautiful and large with lovely pictures. The tried-and-true quality you can expect from Bake From Scratch. I want to bake nearly all of it’s 600+ recipes. There are recipes so enticing that I gasped several times in pure anticipation.

This is the best Bake from Scratch volume yet.

If you read or buy one baking book each year, it's got to be this series. The recipes are fabulous, the photos are elegant and everything is delicious. The cakes here are kind of tough, involving lots of steps, but there are things in here for the novice baker too. There are some unexpected savories as well - a munchkin style donut hole stuffed with tomato and cheese, a tomato upside-down cake, along with some muffins that are simply amazing. The instructions are very clear here, and for more complex recipes multiple photos are included. This is really a terrific book and I can't wait to make more of the recipes.

Outstanding

I bought all 3 volumes because I love the magazine subsciption. Recipes are organized by type, cakes-layer,Bundt,one layer cakes,Breads-Quick and yeast,Pies & tarts, Pastries, Cookies& Bars, misc Beautiful production. I've also made many recipes from book to my neighbors delight. So good.

Great for any baking skill level.

I am not a naturally skilled/adept baker. This book may seem intimidating, however, everything is explained very thoroughly. It’s written very well. Everything I have tried so far has turned out very well and I hope to expand my collection to the other 3 volumes. There’s an incredibly wide range of recipes and every recipe has a beautiful photo. The design and typography is exceptional.

Baker who loves to "Bake from Scratch"!!

Bake from Scratch never disappoints. I have all 3 volumes and subscribe to their magazine. They are a requirement for every baker's arsenal.

Bake From Scratch...MAGIC IN THE KITCHEN!

As I'm a huge fan of the magazine Bake From Scratch, the minute Brian Hart Hoffman published this beauty, I swooped it up as a Christmas gift for myself! And of course my family & I will reap the most excellent benefits from the delicious recipes.

Fabulous and easy to find recipes.

Wonderful compilation of season three recipes. Very handy to have in book form. Love all of the recipes! I recommend getting volumes one and two, also!
