Aang faces a decision from which there is no return!

When Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph return to Earthen Fire Industries--the factory owned by Toph's father--Aang is surprised when their arrival is met with a cold shoulder. As soon as the team is asked for help at a business council meeting, the reason for the slight becomes clear: a massive bender-versus-non-bender conflict has gripped the town and is threatening to turn violent. In order to heal the divide and save the town, Aang and the team will all face tough decisions about power and identity that could tear them apart.

Written by Faith Erin Hicks (The Adventures of Superhero Girl, The Nameless City) and drawn by Peter Wartman (Stonebreaker), in collaboration with Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, this is the ultimate continuation of Avatar!

Collects Avatar: The Last Airbender - Imbalance parts 1-3 (ATLA volumes 16-18).

It's Like the Show Never Ended (Review #383)

I had heard of these comics before now but never got around to reading them. Then around a month ago I rewatched the entire series and was reminded just how great this property is. With memorable characters and incredible world building, it stands as one of the all time greats of so-called "children's animation". My second watch through left me wanting more, a more direct continuation as opposed to the Legend of Korra show. This is the latest in the line of these follow-up books, and the story marks a changeover in creative talent as writer Faith Erin Hicks and artist Peter Wartman replace the outgoing team of Gene Luen Yang and Gurihiru. The story picks up a short time after the previous team's story The Rift, playing upon the Bender vs. Non-Bender tensions later seen in Korra. This connection gives Hick's story an entertaining edge, as well as her exploration of complex that would have been right at place in the show. What really makes these comics great is the close collaboration with the shows creators, Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, which really give these stories a true sense of continuity. Wartman's art is truly brilliant too, being a great adaption of the original designs with a lot of his own artistic flare. The story of this book is fantastic, and this particular edition of it is equally so. This large hardcover volume collects the originally three part story in one, plus concept art and notes on the creative process all on thick pages. This is, and I'm sure the others equally are, a definite buy for fans of the show. Reading it, it felt like the show never ended at all. 5/5

Republic City origins & Toph being badaśś

I have all the Avatar library edition books and this one was a joy to read just like the rest. This story begins to introduce Republic City in The Legend of Korra. It changes so much in the decades between this story and Korra! Like every other library edition, the authors' comments in the side panels is worth it!

One of the Best Avatar Installments Thus Far

Despite the lack of my favorite character, Zuko, this is one of the best in the Avatar comic installments. This book shows the growing disputes between benders and non-benders, and some of the origins for Republic City and other elements we see in The Legend of Korra. A nice historical bridge between the two, and I also enjoy seeing the characters aging a bit.

Awesome quality book, really amazing.

This is an awesome edition really great quality for the price. I am kind of blown away, I expected your quick re-run printed graphic novel. Mostly just to explore more of the story with my kids. This is an art book quality. Comments and notes from Faith Erin Hicks & Peter Wartman just push this edition over the top.

Need it!

The story is such a great bridge between the start of Republic city and some building issues and Korra! Of course it has great punchlines from Sokka as well!

Amazing Quality!

I don't like the overall story of this one (compared to "the promise," "the search," etc)... but the quality and art is wonderful!

Love Avatar, an adjustment to new drawing style

We are all passionate Avatar fans, and watched the show, then have bought all the books. This one was a bit difficult to get used to because the drawing style changed. When you spend years with characters who have a certain look and certain facial expressions, it's hard when that changes a bit. But alas, it's still the Avatar world, so we'll still probably by the next one, if there is one.

Very good product!!

Very good product!!

Awesome new installment in the Avatar world!!

If you were nervous about a new writing and art team taking over the franchise, rest easy because this is a great addition! It is very true to the characters and series and feels like watching an extended and really excellent episode. It's got great humor and I love how it begins the tie-in into the Korra age. Get this asap!

Love these books

I always love there library editions, the book is bigger so you see the art a lot better and they have author commentary which I love the behind the scenes of the last air bender story’s.

Fantastic Gift.

My granddaughter asked for this book as a gift. I ordered it for her. When it arrived she was the happiest girl on earth.. Her Mom and Dad were amazed by the book too. Highly recommended.

More ATLA

Like the other library edition comics, it's great! This one is made by a different group than the ones that came before it, but had they not said that in the commentary, I never would have known. If you liked the previous library edition comics, or are just a fan of ATLA, then you'll enjoy this.

Enlarged layout with extras - great!

Just finished the Avatar book series, as well as the show! And this is my favorite book of the whole series. Nice layout and love the extras you get in the library edition. I only wish it would come with a soft cover version but I think it’s Dark Horse’s problem more than Amazon. The hard cover is really nice, just costs a bit more usually. Definitely worth the price - it’s a keeper!

Another great story arc!

A great continuation to the ATLA universe!

A great new addition to the gaang and their story

The latest installment of the gaang’s adventures is amazing! Great quality and just a lovely continuation.

Bender Supremacists

I was surprised to discover that this sixth installment of the Avatar comics had a different creative team than the other five. Ultimately, it was a pleasant surprise. Peter Wartman's art is very stylish and has more flavor than Gurihiru's, and I think Faith Erin Hicks nailed the tone of Avatar in a way that Gene Luen Yang sometimes struggled to. Even the colorists, Ryan Hill and Adele Matera, were impressive. I don't mean to say I didn't enjoy the old creative team, because I certainly did, but overall I thought it was a nice change. In Imbalance we return to our industrially-developing town that gave Aang so much trouble in The Rift, and my has it grown. Now dubbed 'Cranefish Town' (and maybe one day Republic City, if my guess hits the mark), it offers up new troubles. This time in the form of some seriously bigoted bender supremacists. It's a great story. And the divide between benders and non-benders rings true as a realistic in-world issue, with obvious parallels to the prejudices that are all too prevalent in our own world at times.

A new writer and artist - very different feel!

The author and artists were changed for Imbalance, and so it's noticeably different. The look and story are nowhere near as good as the first five comic series. The first five Avatar comics looked like animation cells from the show, whereas Imbalance is more like a watercolor art style. It's okay overall, but the writing also lacks the more riveting elements that made the first five story arcs great, and I got bored and struggled to finish Imbalance.

LOVE IT!

I love how big this book is and the art style is simply beautiful! I also can't believe the gaang are all older now :,)

Republic City Origins

Great story/writing Beautiful art Both faithful to the TV Show Product shipping almost in perfect condition (Minor bents in the hardcover) Final print perfect except for two pages with little stains

as described

loved. recommend.

Another superb edition - further linking with Korra

At time of writing, Imbalance is the newest comic of the Avatar series, following on from the good 'North and South', I'm not quite sure how much time has passed, but I'm guessing most of the characters are now around 15 or 16. Anyway, the library edition brings all three comics together into one beautiful hardback book - complete with annotations and notes from the writers and artists. The book itself is beautiful and I really like the new art style which bursts with colour (some fantastic god rays) and captures the growing pains of what will become Republic City. Imbalance looks at a growing feud between benders and non-benders, particularly over new factories that do not require benders, putting them out of a job and increasing tensions between the two groups. There's a lot more to it, with a nice nod to economics and politics, but that's the story in a nutshell. The gaang (minus Zuko who is presumably busy running the Fire Nation) have to try and discover the leaders of a conspiracy and find a way to defuse the tension between the two groups. If it sounds familiar to Korra season 1 - it is, and its a great linkage with that season. I won't say more to avoid overly spoiling the story. Focusing on the production values, again this is a fantastic book with dynamic combat scenes, fun character development and an interesting story. Toph is probably the MVP is this one, her interactions with Sokka, her blunt attitude and her attempts at subterfuge area really interesting and fun. There are also some lovely moments with Aang and Katara visiting what will become the air temple island, and Sokka even gets his detective monocle on! Suki is awesome as always. I would rate Imbalance very highly, probably second only to 'The Search', if you are enjoying the Avatar series, this will be an excellent addition to your collection. If you have not read any of the comics before, I think you could still read and enjoy this without reading any of the others beforehand. Series order: The Promise The Search The Rift Smoke and Shadow North and South Imbalance

Nice book. Badly packed!

Pleased with item. But was disappointed with packing, looked like it had been kicked around before dumping on my doorstep. I had other items in parcel they were ok but this book was a little dented around the edges, please take more care. My daughter will still love it I’m sure.

Ok

First class however maybe a little bit too expensive.

Stunning new art style with an amazing story to boot

I loved this trilogy. The library edition has interesting commentary from the author and artists. The new art style is also wonderful and I can't wait for future releases.

100% amazing

My son loved this book. It's was in excellent condition and turn up very quickly. 100% recommend!!

Very nice Book

You can practically hear their voices when reading these books. Great artwork and stories. Fans of the show cant go wrong

Excelente compra

Me llegó rápido, protegido y en buenas condiciones. Particularmente, me encanta la versión hardcover de estos volúmenes, está muy bien trabajada.
