Grover, now with pal Elmo by his side, has heard that there’s something lurking on the last page of the book. Grover tries his best in all sorts of hilarious ways to stop the reader from turning the pages. But, Elmo, curious as always, slips by every wacky barrier. Toddlers will find it hard to resist turning the pages too.

Great story, but board book is way too small.
Great book, was a favorite of mine as a kid so bought it for my 2 year old as he loves Sesame Street characters. Bought the board book because he’ll still rip paper pages occasionally. I’m very disappointed in the size of the board book. It’s about as tiny as a book can get. Yes, there is a picture in the description of the typical amazon shadow guy holding it to depict size, but it doesn’t really do it’s smallness justice. I’ve included a better pic with my avg size woman’s hand. Had I not missed the return window I’d have returned it. Great as an on the go diaper bag book (which I don’t really see this as- I see it as more of a parent read along book) but just too small to be enjoyable otherwise. If it were bigger it’d be great.
One of my all time favorite children's books!
This is one of my all time favorite children's books ever!!! I can remember reading this when I was a little kid and loving it so much! So when I found this on Amazon, I was so thrilled and immediately had to buy it so I could share it with my own kiddos. The book is so well written and adorable! I love how Grover is talking to the readers throughout the book; it really feels as though you are interacting with him during the story. And his comments and pleas to the readers to stop turning pages is so cute. My kids get more excited as anticipation grows, and we get closer and closer to the end of the book. I also really love how the message helps to relay that there was nothing to be afraid of the whole time. It's funny how kids will naturally empathize with Grover being afraid of monsters. But in a way, they become somewhat empowered as the readers who keep turning the pages. And the ending does such a great job of giving a warm reassuring feeling that everything is fine, and Grover was silly to be scared (especially because he's the monster at the end of the book). This book was delivered very quickly and was packaged well. It arrived in perfect new condition and as expected. And by the way, the price for this book is unbeatable! Because I consider this to be a personal favorite and classic, I have actually bought it several times as gifts for other kids. Again, the price is awesome and everyone enjoys it; it's a win win for all! Highly recommended!!! :)
Classic Story
I grew up reading the Little Golden version of this book, so when I ordered a copy to replace one that got destroyed, I didn't realize it was a board book (missed the "favorite board books" tag)-- not that it matters, because the bright colors, sweet illustrations, and the wonderful story we all know and love come through on those sturdy board pages. My three-year-old carries this book around with her, and asks me to read it every other day. She knows the voices and can almost "read" it to herself.
Kids love it and love Grover!
This is one cute book! It is witty and so very much like Grover! I felt it’s different from other books because it’s engaging in a different way than board books with opening flaps and pulling down pages. This definitely isn’t just for Halloween. It may very well be our new favorite bedtime book!
I will always remember this book as a favorite from my childhood
I will always remember this book as a favorite from my childhood, so it was exciting to read it to my own child (who is now 10 months old). Happily, he seems to love it, too! This book directly addresses the reader, with Grover doing everything he can think of to try and prevent pages from being turned. His fear is the titular monster at the end of the book. I remember reading this with a mixture of anticipation, excitement, and a little bit of fear when I was a kid - so I hope my son will experience it similarly when he's old enough to really enjoy the story.
Don't just read it
This was one of my favorite books when I was a child so when I saw a deal on the hard cover copy, I picked up a few copies. I figured the one I had when I was younger was just a paperback, but the harder cardboard cover will help keep it protected until my kids are old enough to have their own kids. I think the story is fun and who doesn't love Grover, but to really allow the book to live up to it's full potential, you have to take a little time and work on your delivery. Don't just get the book and read it to your kids. Take a little time beforehand and go through it so you know how to make it more fun. If you do, it will make the experience so much better for both you and the kids. Enjoy!
Joke is on me, I guess.
So, I missed the "miniature edition" in the title of the product, and that is the only place it is mentioned. I read the product description but it does not say that the book and clip are tiny - like the whole box fits in the palm of my hand. For an adult this could be a fun, retro gift. For my toddler, whom I was buying this for, not so much. I don't know any adults that would like this, so I guess I just wasted my money.
Awesome Kids Book
I think all parents should be required to read this book to their kids. It's such a cute story, and I swear all kids love it. Its by far both my daughters (1.5 and 2.5 years old) favorite book. My older daughter is in speech therapy, and this is a fun book to use while working with her, I can point out Grovers eyes, nose, mouth, hands; we talk about what he's doing "He's building" "He's laying down bricks" "The wall feel down" etc. The ending is so cute as well, when you find out that the monster grover was scared of at the end of the book is himself, he says "It's me! Grover" and now both my daughters say that on their own as soon as I turn to the last page. It's too cute!
Board book bigger size - perfect size now
This books is amazing and reminds me of my childhood. I'm so happy that I was able to find it again for my daughters. Many prior reviews mention the small size of the board book. I purchased it anyway, but the book must have been revamped because I just received it and it is a great size, much larger than my hand. It is approximately 8"x6", the perfect size to read before bedtime. Happy reading!

Kids listen to every word to the end of the book
This book is a delight to read--- even if you can guess where the story is going. But, a young child will likely have an entirely different view. WHAT is at the end of this book? The idea of a monster waiting there is not entirely inviting. For those who like the simplicity of the original Sesame Street show, this should fit well into your book collection. Written by Jon Stone, the first head writer for Sesame Street, if you have a two to four-year-old around, this should be considered required reading. Love it!
I LOVE THIS BOOK
I don't thin it's fair to let me review this. this was a book that my mother read to me as a child and she did it so well that I never forget it as I am not approaching my 40s. I just bought it for my 3 year old daughter and she was not a fan when I first told her what we were reading - Partially because it wasn't Paw Patrol or My Little Pony, and partially because she doesn't like "monsters". That being said, I am happy to report that she now loves the book, as well, and I think it's all in how you read it to them. She understood the whole premise and we giggled about it and read it again, being a little crazy with all the things Grover was choosing to do. Just buy the thing.
Adorable, interactive story
Cute, interactive story that is fun across a broad age group (toddler to young child) — both my 18-month-old and 4-year-old love this book. For younger toddlers, they may not "get" the end of the story (revealing that Grover himself is the monster at the end of the book), but the most fun is in the pages before anyway, the child turning the pages and Grover frantically trying to keep the child from doing so. When we first started reading this book, neither of our children was familiar with Sesame street, so I'd say the appeal of this book is independent of the prior knowledge of the grover character — to my children he was just a cute monster and the story made sense just the same. We've gifted this to new parents and for birthdays as well, highly recommend.
A Classic-- Get It Before It's Banned
So many books from my childhood are now considered offensive, it's a total joke. This book is all about monsters, and one particular monster. It's only a matter of time until we're not allowed to talk or write to kids about "monsters" because the term is offensive to ugly people or animals, or the disguised, or those with abnormal features or appearance. Anyway, get this book while you can. It's hysterical for little kids, and it's a total classic. I grew up with it in the 1970s. Grover is the OG Sesame Street resident.
Same cute story. However, the “NEW” book came damaged.
I loved this story when I was growing up and so did our daughter. Our original copy got lost and I wanted to get another copy to give as a gift for my daughter to be able to read it to our grand child. I was so disappointed when this book arrived. It was advertised as “New”. It came warped and was damaged at one of the corners. I’m disappointed as this was a gift. It is the same cute story that I grew up with, but I was embarrassed giving a damaged gift.
Grover doesn't want you to turn the pages. Very cute!
I bought this book many years ago when my son was a toddler. It was one of his favorite books. Who doesn't love fuzzy, loveable Grover? He's afraid of the reader turning the pages of the book and comes up with creative ways to keep you from turning that next page. I'm now buying copies of this book to share with families I know with young children. And in case you don't already know this, there is a companion book which includes Elmo too. Buy them both!
Absurdly small for a book designed to be read aloud to children
A great, funny, suspenseful 4th wall breaking story, that never loses its charm even after finding the monster at the end of the book countless times. Unfortunately, this edition is way too small and flimsy for the purpose, and shouldn't be labelled 'hard cover'. You need to find the full size, at least 8 1/2 x 11 edition. I'll go shopping elsewhere I guess, I can't find a larger proper hardcover on amazon. Should have known 4.99 was too good to be true.
Little Board Book gives Big Laughs & Life Lesson
This is a very sweet story in the format of a very small board book. I never had this story as a kid, but one of my high school teachers did & said she used it even her first day of college to help remind herself to be brave that she could keep going one step at a time. I remembered it when looking for children’s books for my little ones years later. It’s a fun book as each page Grover begs the child not to turn another page, & the little ones laugh at his reaction as you make your way from page to page. Get your Grover voice ready, this will probably be one you’ll read over and over. I like the message that it’s ok to be scared along the way, but that often the thing we’re afraid of turns out not to be that scary after all. Being a Seasame Street character makes it recognizable to many children. The little board book pages are easy for little ones hands to turn, which is a fun part of the book letting them turn the next page.
Classic book still enchants children.
I read this to my now grown and flown children. I found a used copy here and mailed it direct to my grandsons. They like multiple readings of it every night. I think my daughter has it memorized by now. She's ordered the sequel to it as well. It's just a delightfully daffy fun book to read and it leads to very hammy acting by whoever is reading it. Lots of fun. Spoiler alert: Great lesson about worrying for nothing by the way.
So fun to read with littles !
We are big fans of the original book, all our kids have loved this series ! Now our youngest has found her way to them and we just had to have the sequel ! It’s one of her favorites and we love reading it to her ! She gets super excited and loves seeing Grover and her absolutely favorite ,furry, red monster Elmo, together ! It’s a fun, quick and very engaging read ! „Turn the page „has become one of her favorite „phrases“ !
Spoiler in photo; Cute, mini sized board book
Cute, funny board book that toddlers will love. Spoiler in the photo.
Super Book for Story Time
From shortly after the births of my two children until they were almost in middle school, I read to them every night before they went to bed. This book was one of their favorites when they were toddlers. I would try to read the book in the voice and with the excitement of the main character, Grover. It was as much fun for me to read it to my kids, as it was for my kids to listen to it. Great quality time and cute story. I also bought a copy of it recently for my niece who just had her first baby.
You do not know what you are doing to me! Now stop turning pages! (A must have!)
My favorite book growing up was ALWAYS "The Monster at the End of This Book". I always begged my mom to read it to me and it always stayed with me the way she read it in Grover's voice. Well, I eventually had a little girl of my own and read the original to her. She loved it and she was so fascinated on how mommy changed her voice just like Grover! Walking around a book store one day, I saw this and stopped immediately. I had absolutely no idea that there was a sequel! I knew I had to have it! I'm so happy I ordered it here. The book came perfect and the story is just as memorable as the original. Now, when I read to my daughter, I can give her two books with the same memories and characters I loved growing up. I enjoy this time so much with her
Great little book
This has been a favorite of my kids and my toddler is no exception.... she loves this book! As soon as I saw it in a board book I snatched it up! Is small, perfect for her little hands♡ and big enough for her siblings to enjoy and read to her as well. I was so happy with it I got the second one right away♡
Classic
This book is a classic. I got it for my 2 1/2-year-old grandson. He seems to be at the perfect age to understand that there’s something at the end of the book that he doesn’t know what it is. He really thought it was funny when he got to the end of the book. I know this book will get a lot of use. I got it when it was on a sale, so it was not the original price. It was about less than two dollars. That was a steal!
Pretty much a scam
Definitely not worth the money
Cute story, same text, different version
Book was fine but I got this for my daughter after Grandma introduced this book to us on a visit. Unfortunately this version is two pages shorter with some of the text being clumped together onto a single page. My daughter was disappointed they weren’t the same and I don’t know why they were trying to make it two pages shorter when both were board books.
Unique interactive storybook for young children
I believe a lot of people can cite "The Monster At the End of This Book" as one of the first books they remember reading as a child. Not only because it featured a beloved character from a TV show many children grew up watching, but because it was probably their first exposure to an interactive story -- instead of simply reading a pre-written tale, children felt they were interacting with Grover himself, and that their actions affected the story itself. Before this book, not many children's books experimented with breaking the fourth wall and addressing the reader directly, and in this sense "Monster" was ahead of its time. I recently purchased this book for a friend's baby shower gift, and she, too, said it was one of her absolute favorite books as a child and she was eager to share it with her own son when he was old enough. It's heartening to know that a simple children's book can be so beloved by all ages. As stated before, what makes "Monster" unique is that it's main character, Grover, is fully aware that he's in a book, and tries to tell the reader to not turn the pages -- because the further you read, the closer you get to the end of the book, where supposedly a monster lurks. Grover pleads with the reader, and even resorts to increasingly silly methods to keep the reader from turning the pages. There's even a bit of suspense built up as Grover's fear builds with every page turned, and one can't help but feel a little sorry for him. Naturally, I won't spoil the ending, and I doubt any reader, no matter the age, is going to stop reading to the very end despite all Grover's best efforts. Also, the art bears mention -- it's a loose and sketchy style, in contrast with the later Sesame Street books that would have relatively crisp and clean artwork, and very few of the pages have actual backgrounds. But I actually rather liked it as a kid, and I still like it now. The story is very simple and no-frills, and so the artwork is made to match. Also, it's nice to have a unique art style in a TV-spinoff book, where most books based on a TV show have generic-looking "canned art" instead of much in the way of creativity. A fun and unique read for young children, this is a must for any child's library. Young readers will enjoy feeling that they have control over the story, and giggling along to Grover's antics.
Joyful and Adventurous. The Worrywart Versus the Optimist. Fun for All.
I read it to my son when he was little. Now I read it to my friend’s children. Hopefully I will have an opportunity to read it to grandchildren one day. I grew up on the original Monster at the End of This Book. My son knows them both, and I have ensured that children of this generation get to enjoy both versions as well! It’s all in the presentation of the storyteller. These are so fun to read!
You Must Become One With The Storybook
This book is a stone cold classic that allows for expressive storytelling and an interactive reading experience. It . . . may not be the best bedtime book. Heh. But it is definitely engaging and still remains a unique and immersive approach to children's books. It was read to me as a child, I read it to kid's I babysat, and now my husband and I have bought it for our soon-to-be granddaughter! It's so much fun, buy it for your kid's and unleash your inner AC-TORRRRRRRRRRRR!
You'll Feel Like A Giant When You Read This
I bought this because it was said it was great for little readers. I thought that mean little as in young. It must have mean troll size as the book fits in the palm of my hand.

So tiny
Like others, I wasn't expecting this to be so tiny for the amount of money I paid. Do not recommend
Fun, cute
Well done. Cute. Exciting for young children. Sesame Street knows how to write a children's book. The main character spends each page trying to convince you not to turn to the next page, because "There's a monster at the end of the book." It makes the kids excited to turn and read the next one. It was on sale, so I bought extra copies to send to my grandkids.
Adorable
I read "The Monster at the End of This Book" to my now 40 something sons when they were little. I remembered it when I was invited to read a book at a baby that would be recorded for the baby to hear later. When this book came up as a recommendation on Amazon, I had to buy it for the baby. She was born shortly before Christmas. The Muppets are classic. Grover has always been my favorite. The package arrived on time in excellent condition.
I like the original best
That's me. *I* like the original. It's what I grew up with. Adding Elmo was just to please Elmo fans... which is TOTALLY my 18 month old son. HIS favorite of the original Monster at the End of the Book and this one is DEFINITELY the Elmo one. And since he's the audience in question, I do like this book after all because it makes my boy happy. For those not as familiar with this story, Grover is trying to stop Elmo from going to the next page (I think it was more fun when he's asking the reader to not turn pages). Eventually he gives in, and he and Elmo decide to go different ways around or through the book to get to that last page so they can surprise the monster, and instead they scare each other. And then Elmo wants to go read the story again... as does my toddler.
Just like when I was little!
This book is exactly as I hoped it would be. It's just as I remembered! I'm 46 yrs old and STILL remember that this was always my favorite book! The anticipation and the build to the ending & the MONSTER at the end of the book, never lost its thrill. I hope to read it over & over to my 3 yr old so they can enjoy & have the wonderful memories this book can bring. This little old school style hardback books are way sturdier than they look. I'm very happy! I've even bought one & mailed it to a friend for her kids. Everyone likes getting treats in the mail. This book is a treat!
Childhood Magic
I have loved this book since I was a I little kid. I owned it as a small boy, and read it over and over. I later in life as an adult found a copy in a thrift store and was able to share it with my kids. Now, I can enjoy it again in digital format as I relive this joyful book of my childhood. Grover is the coolest monster ever, and this book may just be the coolest kids book ever!
One of my Daughter's Favorites
This is one of my daughter's favorite books. She is now 12, and we have had it for probably about 10 years now, and she still occasionally will pull it out and read it all these years later. So when I had to buy my neighbor's little boy a Christmas gift and saw this I knew this was perfect. I'm hoping he will enjoy it as much as my daughter still does.
My favorite book as a kid
My favorite book as a kid. My children have loved it. Now I'm reading it to my grandson. My favorite memory with this book was taking it to elementary school when we were learning how to present to an audience. Our teacher wanted each of us to read our favorite book to the class. There was a young man on the front row with special needs. He laughed and laughed while I read it. I'll never forget how much I enjoyed that. I've never seen another book that makes reading a fun activity like this book does, not just a read. In other words, I highly recommend this book. It should be in every home.
The intoxicating power that comes from the turning of a page...
This book never gets old for my preschooler, he loves defying Grover to turn another page! When Grover begs him not to turn the page he laughs maniacally and does it anyway. This is a silly book and parents may roll their eyes when asked to read it for the 50 bazillionth time, but I kind of like to think that by turning that page in defiance my little guy is learning that there is power in the written word. Even if it involves a goofy looking muppet.
This a charming book that young kids will really enjoy
I have fond memories of my mother reading this to me as a child, as I grew up watching lot of Sesame Street on TV. Now I have a seven year old child who enjoyed it a great deal too. This book will probably be much more enjoyable to a child if they are already familiar with the Grover character from Sesame Street. It is quite short, but very amusing. I would recommend it for children 7 and younger.

Cute, funny board book that toddlers will love. Spoiler in the photo.
Great choice!
I'm so glad I listened to the reviews and snagged this book for my friend's children. It was so fun to see the 3-year-old start to work out the interactive bit and to engage him as I read. He giggled and giggled when I had him turn the pages over Grover's objections. He immediately wanted to read it again and said "MONSTER" with me every time I pointed to the red word. Yesterday, I received a card in the mail from my friend that said her boys still want to read this book every day -- and sometimes multiple times a day. Thanks, Amazon reviewers! You helped me maintain my Auntie status!
Make sure you have a microscope handy.
This item is NOT as described. The book is literally less than three inches. The clip on Grover is cute, but the book is so small it would be difficult for a toddler to look at and turn pages, and it’s way too small for an adult to share with a child. The content of the book is not designed for children old enough who could manipulate it.
Great Read Aloud Book
Very fun book to read aloud to young children. Grover has heard there's a monster at the end of the book. He gets increasingly upset as each page is turned. Ultimately, it turns out that Grover is the monster at the end of the book and he is so embarrassed. Kids love this book and adults can have fun being really dramatic.
my sons LOVED this book
Oh man, my sons LOVED this book. We read it SO many times when they were little, the pages got worn out. They loved when I would make funny voices and scream as we went page to page. They weren't huge Sesame Street fans (you don't have to be to like this one), but they LOVED Grover. If you buy this one, make sure you go all out reading it... half the fun is in the silly reading style delivery! :-)
very good
This is the best book for teaching little ones to read. I have purchased many of these book through the years for favorite children. I read it to them and make it really funny and soon you will see them going through it as if the are reading it themselves. This purchase was for my great-granddaughter.
Must read in a Grover voice!
This book is a classic! My 4 year old LOVES it! And I loved it as a child myself! Every time we read it, she won't stop giggling. Overall, the story is about Grover being scared because he has heard that there is a monster at the end of the book, and does everything he can to get the reader to stop turning pages. At the end, he learns that the monster is only loveable Grover! Even though my daughter has this book memorized, she asks for it daily! This book is even better when read with a Grover voice!
Not as scary as it sounds
This book was my favorite as a child. It was the book I asked for every night before bed. I give it to all of my friends kids now and they all love it too. I like to add a note to the back that they can learn to read as they grow up. The title may scare you away from buying, but I promise the book is fun not scary.
Family Favorite
The book has been a favorite in my family for 40 years! You have to read it in character and with energy! I read it to kids and they loved it! I read it to my niece and little cousin and they love it. I bout this for the newest addition in our family for his first birthday and he LOVES it too!! The price is perfect, it’s binding is strong and the pages are very colorful. You will not be disappointed!
Love that they still produce this book
This is what Sesame Street should be. Over the last few years Elmo has taken over the show and only a few other characters ever get the spot light. This came from a time when Sesame Street actually dealt with big issues and wasn't afraid to take them on. Elmo has ruined what was once great children's programming. alright now to the the book. This book is great and my daughter loves it. The surprise at the end is always fun and I encourage everyone to read to their children. Grover is one of the best characters the show has produced
A blast from the past
I had this book as a kid and when I saw it come up as a recommendation in Amazon, I had to buy it for my 6 year old! She LOVES it! The minute it arrived, she tore open the package and read it from start to finish - and I enjoyed it as much as she did! We have since ordered the follow up book digitally because she couldn't wait for the paper copy!

The book encourages interaction, worrying about the “monster” at the end of the book.
This was one of my grandson’s favorite books. We read it, again and again, pretending we were Grover (the blue “monster” from Sesame Street”) who was scared of turning each page getting him closer to the end of the book, because “there’s a MONSTER at the end of this book!”
Could Be The Perfect Kid's Book
As a child myself decades ago, now reading to my children and nieces, every child dreads getting to the end of this book the first time (you might even need to coax them to continue, but don't give it away, that's the what makes this work), then wants you to read it again and again. Short, clever and very fun. Timeless (though sadly forgotten by many)
One of my favorite childhood books
I bought these for my nephew and grandparents to give them for Christmas. This book holds some of my best childhood book memories!! Great addition to every childs bookshelf!! If you don't own this book, it's a must have for all the kids!! Can't wait to read it to them!!
This book is a Golden Book
Fun and entertaining Sesame Street story, but the photo of the book in this listing is misleading. It is not a hardcover book, but a golden book with a stiff cardboard cover, the border of which was cut off in the photo depiction. The price is high for a Golden Book, compared to other Golden Books offered.
My sister and I LOVED reading this book when we were children and now ...
My sister and I LOVED reading this book when we were children and now that my nephew has arrived, I very much wanted to share this special book with him as well. I was thrilled when I found a boardbook version of this sweet story and I immediately purchased it for my nephew, along with a Grover hand puppet. He LOVES reading this book with me, with Grover (the character in the book) acting out the scenes. And the boardbook is much more durable for rough, little boy hands to hold and play with. Here's to a whole new generation falling in love with the whimsical charm of Sesame Street.
A timeless childhood classic
This was one of my favorite books as a child and when I knew I was having my own, it immediately landed on my list of books I wanted to read to him. The first reading, in my best Grover voice, was as delightful for me as it was him and he routinely asks for “Monster.”
A classic Sesame Street Grover that is absolutely worth the money is an awesome read for the family.
It’s what it says, A Little Golden Book and the story is Grover not wanting to get to the monster at the end. One of my childhood favorites. My older & now youngest, 6, it’s been hers, and I know so many kids who have loved this over the years! It’s just a classic and not to be missed. 👌🏼
An oldie but a goodie!
I was so excited when I saw this book! My kids had it when they were little and now my only grandchild had it too! I couldn't wait to read it to her! Shes only 3.5 yrs old but she LOVES books! Now she has the same book her mama loved when she was little!
Happy crisp clean
Clean and crisp. The pages all match up. Brand new. I'm very happy I received this in the best shape and quickly for a great price. Thanks
I love this book
I read this book to my baby. Even though she is too young to understand what I'm reading, she seems to enjoy the illustrations. She even tries to touch some of the pages. The story is also cute and fun. I highly recommend this book to all parents.

Cute, funny board book that toddlers will love. Spoiler in the photo.
Adorable Book!!!
I bought my son the first Monster at the end of this Book, and its a classic. To my surprise, there was a sequel, so I got this book for him also. I think he may love it more than the first lol. I would highly recommend, its so adorable. And as a parent, its always nice to read a book you enjoy OVER AND OVER AND OVER lol
Ease the fear of monsters!
This was my daughter's favorite book when she was a child and she asked me if she could have the copy of the book I had so she could read it to her daughter. Of course, I gave it to her, but then I had to order another one for me. :) She said it really helped her daughter not be so afraid of "monsters." It's a great book!
Grover is the best!
Loved loved loved this classic book. Used to read it to my 4 kids and now am reading it to my grandchildren. A fun, not-so-scary journey to the end of the book where there is a monster waiting for us. The best kind of monster. :->. Gets laughs from the 4 year old all the way to the 10 year old.
My childhood favorite
I have rebought this multiple times to give as gifts to my friends who have kids. It was a childhood favorite of mine, and a favorite of the children in my former daycare classroom. Be sure to pretend that it gets harder for you to turn the pages!
Best children’s book ever, don’t get the board book version
I think I’ve bought this book for my son three times (because he’s ripped pages) and I bought a copy for each of my nieces (so like another 4 copies). I only wish that they made a proper board book version of this book because it’s my son’s favorite, he loves it. They do have a board book version but it’s slightly abridged and takes away from the story a little.
No go
Arrived damaged. The front cover was peeling off and some inner pages were stained and stuck together. Obviously I got someone else’s returned item. The story itself was weird too. Not a fan, nor was my kid. At least it was only 99 cents....
Funny and cute book.
I'm seeing a lot of complaints on the size of the book, ours was a normal sized book. Maybe the size has changed over the years? The book is hilarious. Me 5 year old can't stop asking for us to read it, the baby even laughs when it's read.
Classic Story for all ages!
Purchased for my 2 and 3.5 year old daughters for nostalgia. I’m 30 years old and had this same book as a little girl. It was always one of my favorites and I was excited to share this with them! Very cute classic story about not being afraid!
great short book for short attention spans :)
My absolute favorite about this book? No Elmo! I cant believe i forgot about this book until someone started talking about it being her favorite and how much she missed it. So I bought 2! This used to be my favorite when I was younger too. Now I get to share this book with my 3 year old son and watch his excitement as I ask him if i should keep going and turn another page. There is a 2nd book to this but I believe I never liked it as much. My son doesnt sit still for too long when reading longer books.... (will start to play with other things while still expecting me to read). This book is just short enough where he will still be into the story even after its read twice in a row (upon request).
Toddler loves it but...
I don't love how at the end Grover essentially lies/ gaslights us! It might seem silly, but I don't love that lesson. It is a fun read, and my daughter loves it, but I make sure to tell her that Grover is lying at the end. Otherwise a great book!

My Grover Impersonation is Terrible When I'm Reading...
but, my little man and I both always giggle when we read this book together. Grover is silly, funny, and cute. Who doesn't love Grover? C'mon! Get this book for your little ones so they can find out who the monster at the end of the book is!
Never gets old
I remember having this book as a little kid and having my dad read it over and over again to me. So when I came across it here, I had to buy it for my little girl. So also loved it. And I even love it more as an adult, its so fun to read to her. This is a cute book cause it gets the reader involved with it, Grover is talking straight to you! I think I laugh just as much as my toddle when we read this and we have read it a ton of times...NEVER GETS OLD! I highly recommend this book.. No way will you be sorry you read it!
MONSTER COMES ALIVE WHILE READING THE BOOK
This book for children is a MUST on every Nana and Papa bookshelves. The secret magic of holding a young audience captive is the way you read it to them. This book requires the reader to be "very afraid", raised voices, fear of turning the page, and lots of oooooohhhs and aaahhhhhhs. The more effort put into the reading of this wonderful story about the Monster at the end of this book will surely leave your children and grandchildren begging you to read it again, and again........they will even go get their friends to come listen to you read this story........make it as dramatic as you want to, kids of all ages will become addicted to it from the first reading to the last!!!
A timeless story in adorable board-book format!
This was a favorite book of mine as a little one that I couldn’t resist buying one for both my daughter and nephew! I love that it comes in board book format to prevent the pages from being torn while allowing our little ones to read and turn pages on their own! A timeless, precious book.
Great book
This is a great book for children!!! Quickly became a nightly favorite. Theres a lot opportunity to put on different voices and have the children join in. Evry time we read this quirky tale there are laughs all around. Definitely recommend
SO FUN, A MUST BUY! Even for teachers to read to their classes!
Such a great, funny and surprising story for anyone to read, especially adorable to see the reaction of new readers that are finally comprehending what they read. I recall when I was young, reading this book for the first time and being surprised. I bought for a 2nd grader recently and she had such a shocked, darling response reading it. Great book for all ages, especially the first time it is read!
Glad to have this classic back in the house
Glad to have this classic back in the house. The plot is Grover noticing the title of the book and doing everything he can to prevent the reader from getting to the end of the book. Once at the end, he discovers that HE is in fact the monster at the end of this book. The art is charming, the story amusing and even young readers get and enjoy the joke. This book is also a sort of meta book as its aware that it is a book, that pages are turned, and still follows the classic story arc.
Always a favorite -
I cannot keep this book in stock in my own gift library - my students are in love with the concept! Also available Kindle, and in games app, however, nothing, NOTHING compares to this book in the HANDS of the child. They love it!
A nostalgic favorite
This was one of my favorite stories as a child, so nice to be able to share it with my son. The only negative is the way the illustrations were cropped to fit the board book format. The parts of the illustration around the page edges were part of what I loved as a kid. We'll find a full size copy to read when he's older.
Great, wonderful book.
I love this book! It is a very cute story but there is so very much more to it. Grover reads that there is a monster at the end of the book. He becomes so afraid that all he can do is to try to get the reader to not turn pages so as to not get to the monster. However, as the reader continues to turn pages as Grover tries everything he can to stop it, the reader along with Grover find that the monster at the end of the book is himself. In life we are often afraid of things, things that we do not know about. Afraid of what MIGHT happen. If the fear overcomes us and takes us over it can keep us frozen and the monster is within ourselves.
Spoiler in photo; Cute, mini sized board book
Cute, funny board book that toddlers will love. Spoiler in the photo.
Best Monster Book Ever 😀😀❤️❤️
Book is like a time machine. It felt nice to hold in my hand. Brought me back to when it was once my favorite book and now I am buying one to pass on and hope it brings memories and smiles to a new generation. Fun story.
Love this book
Love the book...it's always been a favorite of mine. I ordered this for my neices little boy and he loves it. My only comlaint is it is smaller than I expected which is my fault for not looking close enough. I like a bigger version for the pictures.
Still as good as I remember!
This book is just as fun and cute as I remember it when I was a kid. My daughter loves it almost just as much as I did, but since the introduction of Elmo to the Sesame Street gang, I think she loves the sequel "Another Monster at the End of This Book" even more. I would recommend either version to a kid who's a fan of Sesame Street. SPOILER, the monster at the end is Grover.
Terrible. Stick to the origins
This book is nowhere near as good as the original. I ordered it before reading and missed the window to return. The dialogue is scattered and confusing, and the story is kind of dumb. Do yourself a favor and buy the original and stop there.
My FAVORITE childhood book
As a kid, I loved this book. I even have a cassette of myself reading it somewhere and it’s adorable. I have since gotten it for the children in my life and I always get great feedback from the parents on how much their kid loves the book too! Highly recommend.
The most exciting book ever
I had this book as a child. It was by far my favorite book, and I was enthusiastic about reading it all by myself. Decades later, I picked up this book for my kids. After many spirited readings by Mom, it also became their most treasured book. We still have the book, baby teething marks, torn pages, and all. My children have a new baby brother on their dad's side, and I've purchased another copy of this book for him. My children look forward to reading this turn pager to their new sibling.
Love this book!
This was my favorite book when I was little and I love giving it as a gift for little ones to read with their parents :) The Golden Books are classics and I recommend them to anyone and everyone. It arrived in good condition, I have actually purchased this book multiple times now to give at a baby shower in place of a card. I know it is for a slightly older child, but it is something they can read in the future and the parents can read to them whenever as they are growing up. I highly recommend this particular book as I have yet to meet a child that hasn't giggled with delight while reading this book. *Note - voices, even bad ones, totally make the book :)
Nostalgia x 100
I stumbled across this book and had to buy it immediately. The book cover alone took me back to the 80's when my Mum used to read this book to me (using her best Grover voice) and what a special time that was. I got a little choked up reading the book again and my Mum was overjoyed when I showed it to her. I don't have any children to read it to so for now it's just a display item on my bookshelf. It is a lovely light-hearted story and I remember it being my absolute favorite as a child.
I was afraid this Digital book would not have the ...
I was afraid this Digital book would not have the same affect as the Physical version But my granddaughter loves it just the same as my daughter to add she laughed really hard as we pretended to try to turn the pages and being excited as each page changes and there’s the anticipation of a monster at the end of the book
One of my favorite books ever. Seriously.
Love this book! I loved it as a kid, loved it for my nieces and nephews, and now for my own kids. A true classic that allows for a lot of really expressive reading and fun interaction. The kids all love it too!

Fun book
My grandchildren love this book. I have bought one for each family. We still read it even as they get older. In fact they even read it to me now. You can't go wrong with this book. You're family will love it.
A Must Have for a Children's Collection
My Goodreads Review: This book is the key to some really great childhood memories. It was a favorite, partially because it's just a cute little book, and partially because my mom would make a big deal of it when she read it to me. She was a great Grover stand-in. :D Anyway, it was fun to get to read this again and I personally think it's a must-have for any children's collection.
Favorite childhood story
This is the cutest story that will keep the attention toon of any young toddle! It has been my families favorite childhood book for years and always a part of any baby shower or first birthday gifts! Size is perfect for tiny hands and being that it’s a board book it can take on more grubby little hands than the paper copies!
Greatest piece of literature of all time.
This was my favorite book when I was very young, I was happy to find one for my daughter and give it to her for her 21st birthday (as she moves on to bigger and scarier things) - Yes, it was a bit of a gag gift but then again I think the message is incredibly important and can be applied to almost anyone's everyday lives.
Great Book For All Ages
I remember reading this book as a kid. I was searching my brains filing cabinet to try and remember what this book was called. Once we received it, we read it so many times both together and my kids on their own. My kids are in middle school but we still enjoy reading together at night. I foresee this book getting a lot of miles on it.
Classic and delightful
One of my favorites as a child - had to get it to share with my kiddo. He was instantly hooked and had me read it three times in a row - (after I reassured him the Monster wasn’t too scary). It is one of the most charming books I’ve had the pleasure of having read to me and now reading.... my Grover voice was a little trying on the vocal cords ;3 worth it💙
A MUST HAVE!
My son's favorite book. Ever since he was about 4 months old when we would read this book to him he would have an overjoyed reaction compared to other books. At 7 months he was getting excited to "turn the page" every time Elmo asked. Now at 9 months this book will stop any moments of stress with him and calm him down and make him smile.
Childhood favorite!
Bought this for my niece. She really enjoyed it. She likes Sesame Street. I had this book when I was a child, but it was a lot bigger. I was hoping to get one larger, but this one was fun for her.
Your child will love it.
When my grandson was a toddler, we read this book together - over and over and over. It was his all time favorite. Now he and his wife are having a babe of their own and I can’t wait to read it to this new tiny human.
Kids love this book for some reason
Kids love this book for some reason! We had the paper version and my toddler always wanted to look at it bet had trouble with the paper pages, so we got this board book version and it’s a big hit. She loves it just as much as the bigger classic paper book, but now she can look at it without ruining it or having trouble turning pages. This book is much smaller, but still has all the pages that the original one had. Perfect board book size for a toddler.
Great story, but board book is way too small.

Love this book
I use to read this book as a child so when I seen something about it on facebook I had to buy it for my kids. And now I am reading it to them at bed time and I love doing all the different sounds in different voices my kids thinks its the funniest thing
Probably more fun for the adult reading it!
The one year olds I read this to may be a bit young to think this is a fun book, but it is fun to read! They don't seem to have the patience to wait to finish the page before moving on to the next. I love it, the kids like it. I think I they get older they might appreciate it more.
The rest of the story...
This is one of my favorite books from childhood. I recently bought a copy at a yard sale and discovered that some of the details of the story were missing. Little golden books come in 32 page varieties (rarely anymore) and the more common 24 page variety. I suspected that the one I had as a child was a 32 page version. I promptly began searching for other people that remembered the missing details. I was delighted to find several people that agreed with me. (YAY! That means I'm not crazy! LOL) I then started searching for a copy of the story with the missing pages included. This listing claimed to have 32 pages! I was thrilled!! But, alas, it only had 24. :( I'm still delighted with the book. Since the little boy that I babysit has discovered it, and loves it, I sent this copy home with him. :) I'm still looking for a 32 page version (There was a steel door in it). But I was still happy to be able to share this adorable story with my new little friend. :)
Fun story time book!
I have memories of my my mother reading this book to me when I was little. Naturally, I had to have it to read to my son! It is an adorable story about Grover, a very loveable monster afraid of a "monster" at the end of the book and the only monster he finds at the end is himself. Such a fun book! I would recommend it, 100%.
Childhood favorite that I'm passing on to my child
I loved this book as a child and am so excited to share it with my son now. I gave it away as a party favor at his second birthday (theme: our little monster is turning two) and it was a huge success. You can't beat the price and the books came so new that it was obvious they had never been opened, the binding had never been bent and the pages were as crisp as can be. Other than that, the story is adorable! Grover keeps warning about the monster at the end of the book, begging and pleading on each page not to turn to the next, he's so scared of the monster but (spoiler alert) at the end he finds that HE is the monster- cute, cuddly, adorable Grover. I like that it teaches that not all monsters are to be feared.
Classic Sesame Street Golden Story Book
Cute short story with photos. I had this book as a child and only bought it because it popped up. It has photos on every page, as well as part of the story. The intended age is probably 3-7 years old.
Wonderful book
One of our favorite books- I read it to my baby sister years ago- my kids loved it and would always ask me to read it to them. I bought this as a gift for my daughter to read to her preschool class. I know they will love it.
Exactly what I was expecting.
I bought the board book version. Everything seems fine. No printing mistakes or anything. It is a smaller size... Something like 5 or 6 inches tall. It's for a child, it is fine being this size. I haven't read it but I flipped through all the pages to check everything and it all looks good, can't wait to read it to my kid
LOVE THIS BOOK!
This book is a childhood favorite from the 90's!!! I was a bit surprised how closed the book was - it was stuck shut and needed folding. Cannot wait to read this to my 1 year old niece!
Our Favorite book
My kids (now 18 and 22) absolutely loved this story. Lovable Grover gets confused and scared about a facing a monster at the end of the book. It’s a very interactive story. I bought 3 copies for a niece, nephew and Godson
Great story, but board book is way too small.

Cute, funny board book that toddlers will love. Spoiler in the photo.
Great buy
Such a funny little book. If you like to read to children and can get a little animated, this is the best book. I used to read it to my students and my own children. Now it's on my gift list for anyone I know with toddlers.
5 year old loves this book.
My 5 year old loves this book. She loves the way that the book is kind of interactive and involves the reader. This is one of the few books that she has me read over and over to her.
Awesome timeless classic
My favorite book as a 4-6 yr old boy. This was one that I just loved to have read to me. The more animated the better, this book is one I intend to share with the kids in my life.
Great story
This is an amazing story for any kid or parent who enjoys a bit of suspense and drama. I remember my mom dramatically reading this to me as a child and I can't wait to read it to mine
Perfect quality, fast delivery
I loved this book as a child. I loved reading it to my children when they were little. Now, I have the joy of giving it to my granddaughter. It is in brand-new condition (bright gold spine, pages all tightly held together). So pleased!!
FAVORITE book of all 3of my kids.
My kids are grown, but all 3 had their own copy of this book when they were young. So I HAD to order 2 new ones for my grandkids now, lol. Highly recommended...very fun ending.
easy and fun read
one of my favorite books as a kid at my grandma's house. I was thrilled to get it for my own children. An easy read and a fun read interacting with the character in the book too
Playful, fun and interactive story.
This book was my now adult son’s favorite when they were kids. Now the grandkids love it. They ask Grammy or Poppy to read it all the time. Love this very playful story that is a little interactive with the reader.
Great book but not a "Golden Book" anymore.
This is a great, fun story that you can have a lot of fun reading to kids. The main character, Grover, is very animated as he exclaims things like "YOU TURNED THE PAGE!" The ending is quite pleasing and helps people realize that your expectations and/or fears are not always what they seem. This book is not offered as a Golden Book so if you had the traditional Golden Book, it won't match up on your shelf; however, it is still a great addition to most kids libraries.
Fun, Fun and FUN!
I have forgotten all about this book until someone mentioned it in a bookclub that I belong to. She reads it to her son every night. And I remember how much fun I had reading it to my nephew 13 years ago on vacation, so I scurried online and ordered a copy of it. My sons (even though they are probably too old for it) request it every night since it arrived. They think it is a hoot and a hollar. And they beg me to keep turning the pages (I must be raising some fearless boys!) and when they get to the end, they giggle with glee. My advice is, don't wait to buy this book. Get it now and enjoy some reading time with your children. This book is just absolutely fun and I know that it will keep my sons interested in reading. At least they'll remember mom struggling to keep the pages closed ... 7/22/08
Perfect for my little monster
Such a hit with my little girl. By design, she can do exactly what I'm telling her not to do ("turn the page") and she laughs and giggles as she shows off her power by turning the pages. Skhe's also going through a "monster" stage where she loves to pretend there are monsters hiding all over the place and "getting her", so this is a perfect fit. Just as much fun as it was when I was a child.
Great, Great Book
I really love reading this book to my kid. I try to read it in my best Grover voice, but it's pretty terrible! For my kids (who are pretty young), they are iffy about monsters, and therefore iffy about this book. I think Grover's fear over the monster then relief at the end is a good narrative for kids who are also nervous about monsters. I know some older kids who also have this book and they laugh out loud on every page.
Super super cute
Recommended by a friend because she knows I love books and reading to my son at night. I always ask for books for birthdays trying to build up my kid’s little library. Super cute book.
Do not turn the page (but really do)
My daughter has been having problems with fear of monsters at night. This book makes her laugh and she has fun turning the pages despite Groover's protests. I love it because of the throw back character form my childhood. Not annoying to read at all and the related app is super fun.
Another classic!
The Monster at The End of This book is a little gotten book that I grew up on, and now my kids love also. When I found out there was a second book to it, I knew I had to try it out! While it isn't the original (and thus, obviously the best), it's a great runner up and great addition to any child's library. Make sure you do the voices! Have to do the voices!
Love this book!
This was one of my children’s favorite books years ago. So excited to see it still available! I would have bought it for my grandchildren even if it wasn’t on registry. Since I am a firm believer in reading to your children why not start with a loveable character?
Love this book
A book from my childhood and it still makes me giggle. I bought multiple of this book to give out as gifts along with blankets I am making for my friends who are new parents. I think they will love this book just as much as myself.
Love this book.
I loved this book as a kid and now I get to share it with my daughter. It's the perfect size to keep in the car to keep her entertained in the backseat, and she loves it.
I was disappointed when the book arrived to find that it was ...
I was disappointed when the book arrived to find that it was "not" in the condition advertised "Condition: Collectible - Very Good - Minor shelf and handling wear, overall a clean solid copy with minimal signs of use. VINTAGE 1971 EDITION." The book is very well worn and frayed at the corners and edges. While I realize it is a 1971 edition and didn't expect perfect condition, I did expect somewhat better. I don't think it is worth the $18.94 that I paid but I will keep it and use better judgement next time.
Five Stars
This book is so cute I think every child should have this book. Even when reading it over and over, there is still the anticipation and thrill. It’s lots of fun to read especially if you change your boice a little. I read it to the kids I babysat for, I read it to my kids and I’m looking forward to reading it to my grandchildren.

One of my favorites!
This book is exactly like the one I had and read to my girls many years ago. Ordered it to read to my granddaughter and she loves the story as much as my daughters did.
Fun sequel!
Bought if for my son to read to his "one day" grands. It brought back many memories and a smile. He loved loveable, furry, old Grover!! Great book for toddler through K.
A true classic!
I was so delighted to find that this book was available! I'm in my early 30's, and remember this from when I was a wee one. I gave this to a friend's three year-old, who couldn't contain her excitement to see Grover on a book cover. I actually had my order shipped to my office, where all my co-workers waxed nostalgic about how they read this or read it to their kids.
Best Childhood Book Ever
I purchased this book for my future grandchild even though my son doesn’t even have a girlfriend yet. I love it that much. My son loved it as a child. I’m making this book a family tradition.
Love this book!!
I can not count thecopies of this book that I have shared with family members and friends. No child that I gave it to was ever bored. So much emotion is expressed in every page. I love to read it to my granddaughter, nieces and nephews.
This is a great book for curious kids
This is a great book for curious kids. The first time I read this to my son, he was as worried as Grover about the monster at the end of the book, but once he realized what it was, he kept laughing at how "silly" Grover was ;-) This is a great read even after the kids know what is happening at the end, as the ride there is a lot of fun. Each time he gets to destroy the obstacles Grover built by turning pages, my son is highly amused and laughs out loud. Fantastic book. Highly recommend!
Perfect for little hands
I'm so glad they came out with a board book version! This was my favorite book when I was little and now I get to read it to my toddler son without worrying about him ripping the pages. I even bought a second for a baby shower gift.
AMAZING
I bought this book the first time for my 22 yr old son and now his friends are having kids and I got it for a baby shower. both of my children LOVED this book so I get it whenever I go to a baby shower!
Scary fun!
Who doesn't love this book?! Someone has a standing order to keep all that come into my half price (hoping its a teacher and forgiving her) so I ordered it here.
As Advertised
There must have been different versions of this book being shipped at one point because the complaints in the negative reviews are not accurate for the item I received. The book I receiver was exactly as advertised - board book, correct size, unaltered original story.

Fun book reminiscent of Don't Let the Pidgeon Drive the Bus. Much better as a board book!! There is also a fun digital book that pairs nicely with the print copy (it has Grover's voice). The little did the digital book during tech time and spent part of his free time looking through the print book, laughing.
Satisfied
The book is your average size golden book, don’t know why everyone is talking about. I purchased my books at $2 a piece which was a good price point for the product. My 2 year old and his friend will be happy
Golden Book Format
Obviously love the story, but was expecting a hard cover book, not a Golden Book. I purchased yesterday for $2.48 and it's $1.18 today which is very strange.
Super cute book!
Item arrived exactly as described. Brand new copy of this classic book. A fun bedtime read for kids. Nothing scary to give them nightmares. Just a bunch of giggles.
Every Child Needs This book!
There is no great life lesson to be learned with this book. It's just fun! So snuggle with your toddler, do your best Grover voice & create a memory! I read this book over & over to my kids & I am so pleased my grandchildren giggle & laugh just as much.
My favorite.
This was always my favorite book at a child. I love this chunky cardboard style. It makes it more durable. I used this with my Occupational Therapy children clients. They each loved the story.
Grover FTW!
I bought this for my DH because it was the book that terrified him through his entire childhood. He is still scared of it - but excited to read it to our son. This is a smaller version of the classes that I grew up reading, but it's a good size to take along with us in the car to keep our son entertained. If you haven't experienced Grover's scary-scary "don't turn the page!" epic, do yourself a favor and buy this very entertaining kids book!
My grandkids love this book!
My own 2 children loved the original "Monster at the End of the Book"..so I got that one for the 3 grandkids, no 6,4 and 3.I added this one and the love it too! they ask me to read them everytime they come over. the 6 yr old can read them herself. the 4 and 3 yr olds have memorized favorite lines from each.("enough is enough" "all right, all right, all right" "you, you, you, you, etc") They get involved with the "please do not turn the page" fun (which is why I like the board books) As an educator, I can see how much it helps their pre-reading skills. They are starting to recognize letters and words. The 3 yr old learned the word "attitude" from this book. This book is actually a replacement, because we lost the first one...and HAD to have it!
favorite for a 2nd generation
This was my favorite book when I was a kid, so I got it to read to my boys, ages 2 and 4. The 4 year old fought reading it for a long time because I had purchased the board book. Although it will stand up to the 2 y/o, the 4 y/o felt it was for babies. The first time I finally convinced him to let me read it, he was grabbing the pages to turn them against Grover's wishes. Afterwards, we immediately read it 3 more times. This gives kids a feeling of power--in turning the pages and getting to the monster--and teaches them that some things we might be frightened of aren't really scary at all. It's still a favorite of mine...maybe a suggestion for book club?!
Helps Children Gain in Courage & Get a Good Laugh Too
I don't usually like books that tie in with media, but this one is an exception worth making. It is an amusing book for young children that even the parents won't mind reading again. I always insist that the child turn the pages, which adds to the fun. I don't want to give away any of the fun, so suffice it to say that children feel empowered by this book. They go away from it feeling strong and courageous, and get a good laugh along the way. That's a lot to get from so simple a children's book. Bravo, Jon Stone!

Really funny
My kids were laughing so hard at this book..of course, it probably helps if you do funny voices and pretend to struggle turning the page sometimes lol
My son's #1 book!
After countless readings to my son, my original hardback copy was a bit worse for wear. Having a digital copy that will never fade, stain or age is such a blessing! Admittedly, one of the best parts of the book is actually turning the page, but your young child can still do that with a touch screen or mouse. Such a great interactive book. Make sure you do the voice and enjoy!
Great book, this is a small, little golden book
I love this book, but was disappointed that it was so small (didn’t look at dimensions)- was hoping to buy the big book I had as a kid so the illustrations would be big as I read to my daughter’s class.
Board book is cheap and tiny
The board book is so so tiny! Not worth it, just buy the regular version of the book. It’s ridiculous
Children's favorite!
First book I ever purchased for my nephews and niece back in the early 70s. They loved it. Bought it when I started working at a day care in the late 90s. Read it so much had to buy another copy. Bought this on as a gift. You just have to read it the right way. Very loud for the BIG words and very soft for the little words and make sure to have the kids turn the pages.
Love this book!
This book was a favorite of mine as a child, and it turns out that it ages well and my toddler loves it too. Some days it's the only way to get them to eat their dinner
LOVE this classic Sesame Street Story!
This story is just so cute. My son smiles every time we read it! (4 years old) We purchased a handful of these books for Christmas gifts for my son's friends.
Cute story with surprise ending
My grandson wanted me to read and reread this story over and over. It’s an adorable story about Grocer who overcomes his fear at surprise ending.
Fun book
The book is interesting. Not educational at all but fun. It has a lot of text in different typographical forms though. Cheap make. For the price its okay.
Read it again!
This book was recommended by several of my friends who are parents and grandparents. Sure enough, my grandson has to hear this book every night before bedtime! Perfect choice!

Get the original, not as good
the original ,The Monster at the End of this Book ,is NUMERO UNO !! If you do not have that and your child really really loves Elmo, then this book is a good book. It is cute and witty but it is NOT great like the original with Grover. I was disappointed and will give it away to a child who does not a. watch Sesame St and will enjoy' or b. give to a child who is totally infatuated with Elmo, as many are So it is good, but NOT great. Do not buy if you have the first book as this is an end of the story SPOILER!! and boring if your child has the original book...they know the end..it is close to the same book except it is NOT as creative and suspensful , it just has the loveable Elmo added
Best ever book
What can you say about this book except it’s the best Little Golden Book out there. I would read this book to my kids when they were little. When my son had his first baby I had to get it for him
Brilliant read
A wonderful and delightful about self awareness and discovery. Brilliantly written and meticulously conceived! Few books are worth a second time.
A classic
Had this as a child and now got it for my Sesame Street loving 2 year old. It’s entertaining for me, my 2 year old, and my 5 and 8 year olds
My favorite to read
I had this in hardback but my youngest ripped the pages out. I am so happy to have gotten a board book version. This is honestly one of my favorite books to read to my children.
Perfevt
Cute book! Purchased this for my baby since it was a childhood favorite of mine. It’s not the (printed original) but same book! Very cute
Great kids book
I used to read this to my kids when they were young, so when grandkids came along I wanted a copy to read to them. They enjoy the story.
A MONSTER!!! And you were so afraid!
This book never gets old. Read to my children and now my grandchildren! They never seem to get tired of being afraid to see the monster at the end of the book!
fun
This is one of my very favorite books-- even a stubborn 12 year old fell in love with it when forced to read it to her little sister. You can make it funnier each time you read it as you relay how exasperated Grover gets.
My son's favorite book but what happened to the size of the book?
My 1 year old loves this book. We read it every night. He tore the pages from our 1st copy of this so I bought this one. Warning...the board book is tiny! Tiny enough that some of the words are slightly cut off. Still love the book just disappointed in the size of the book.

Love this book
My daughter had this book as a child and it was her favorite. It’s so fun to read. I recently purchased it for her friends baby shower. I love this book!
A favorite!
My children and grandchildren's favorite book. It is just a golden book, so not incredibly sturdy or long lasting, but the story makes it worth it.
Very thin paper
Cheaply made book with very thin paper.
A MUST HAVE book for your library...
If you haven't read this book... you are truly missing something!! I highly recommend this book for adults as well as children. Content is great... graphics superb.. and the way it is written gives you hints on how to read it aloud so that a child finds not only the book entertaining.. but you as well. Trust me, you can't go wrong with this as a gift. Especially if you go online and print out all the free Sesame Street coloring pages there are and maybe buy some Sesame Street stickers. It makes a great themed gift.
Order this book
You will love this book, child and adult - you both and the ones listening to you read it will laugh together. Its a really good book.
Great quality
Cute color. Lovely story. Great printing. Accurate bookbinding work. Size of the hardcover version is nice for kids. It looks a bit fragile though.
Cute book
I think it's important to have tons of books available for the kids to read. This was a great value to add to the collection.
Cute enough
This is cute enough and will probably be fun for a kid who loves Elmo. But doesn't live up to the amazingness of the original!
This book has been a favorite in our family for about 25 years
This book has been a favorite in our family for about 25 years! I tried to get my Mom's copy and she couldn't bare to part with it yet so I ordered it for my 4 year old. The excitement and laughter that this brings out in all is amazing! It's now one of my son's favorites! He constantly picks it off the shelf! You also can't beat the great price on Amazon! Just buy it!

My grandmother used to read me this when I was a child and now I bought it for my daughter. She is 2.5 and it is her favorite book. Sometimes I catch her trying to "read" it to herself. I'll hear her in the other room yelling, "You turned the page!"

My Childhood Favorite
This was my favorite book as a kid. I make a point to purchase it for baby showers and birthday parties. You won't be disappointed at the playful suprise ending and it's not scary :)
Worth the money
I love the story. We had this book when I was growing up. I read it to my children; bought one for a grandchild and one to keep at my home. It is well made.
Classic
I used to read this to my son when he was small because I remember reading it as a child myself. It was all worn out from the years but I recently purchased this for my kindle so I can read it to my grandson and he LOVES it. Maybe more than I did. When I am done, he wants me to read it again. We have so much fun with this book and I am so glad someone decided to keep it going with the digital generation making it an e-book. Fantastic. Fun. Wonderful. Cute. Need I say more?!
Good, not AS good
Not as good as the original, but the original is one of our favorite books. This one is still "good" and we've read it a dozen times.
Great service
Had a problem with the first one. Customer service was great good another one to replace in two days Great service
Great book!
This book is great for children of all ages! Really get into ready this with book with your children (Grover voice is a must).
Love this book!
I grew up with the book and it is the best! It's super fun and interactive and neat illurstrations. Super cute, even adults will enjoy. I give this as a gift to all the baby showers I go to!
Timeless favorite
My kids loved when I would read this to them when they were young. Two of my children now have children of their own and requested I get this for their children. I had a hard time finding it in stores. I am super grateful it is here. I have had the pleasure of reading it to one of my granddaughters. SHE LOVED it as much as her daddy did. I can't wait to travel to see the other one and read it to her. In the meantime her mom is super excited to get this tradition started. This book is now one of our family traditions.
Childhood memory
When I saw this for $1/$2 I had to have it. I have fond memories of reading this book over and over as a small child. Was a guilty pleasure purchase.
Awesome Funny Book
My sons had this book when they were young and loved it. I purchased it for my twin grandchildren and hopefully they will love it as well. Over emphasizing while reading the story makes the book what it is.
Great story, but board book is way too small.
Great book, was a favorite of mine as a kid so bought it for my 2 year old as he loves Sesame Street characters. Bought the board book because he’ll still rip paper pages occasionally.

Fun to read
Bought this to read to my granddaughter and she loves it. This is a fun book to read, bought one for my grandson as well.
Wonderful
My son had this book when he was a toddler and loved it. I bought my oldest granddaughter this and both she and her younger sister love it. A lady at our church is expecting her first child and wants books as a card, I asked my granddaughters what book we should get and they answered The Monster at The of This Book and Another Monster at The End of The Book
SUSPENSE they will want over and over:)
My three year old grand daughter loves the suspense in this book. It is a good way to get them to practice facing their fears without having to face it alone (like the middle of the night). Practicing the motion helps when the "real thing" occurs. It is very entertaining--of course the reader needs to get into "character". I heard there is an Elmo book that is similar that I'd like to find as well. You won't be disappointed with this one (Unsure if I've ever said that about a Golden Book before)...
I received the cutest reaction to this book
I bought this book as a present; her 10-month-old reaction was priceless. She loved the photos of Grover. Totally worth it.
Oh, the nostalgia...
A childhood favorite of mine. Very cute story, great for reading with little one. Well made. Very sturdy. Perfect size for little hands. (I got the board book version)
Well written, silly and funny book.
A pretty short read, but quite a funny/silly book. I enjoyed reading it to my daughter and she had quite a few laughs.
Lovely interractive story, good product, quality better than advertised
Came quickly in great condition. Was listed as "good" but what I got was "like new". Colors are good, interractive storyline is terrific.
Grover is the best!
This is a great story. My kids love it. This book replaced a worn out copy in our house. Just be careful buying used...
Classic and still funny.
I remembered this from my childhood. Still funny. Was disappointed when I gave it to my kid and he had already read it at preschool lol. He still wanted me to read it though!
Paper pages
Reduced stars due to the book being paper pages. I got this for a baby shower gift expecting the pages to be board style as that's the only way I've ever seen this book. Pages aside...this was my children's favorite book when little.

Interactive and fun!
I remembered loving this book when I was a kid, so I bought it to read to my three year old. The day we got it, he made me read it (and I’m not exaggerating) sixteen times. Rarely does a day go by that we don’t read it at least twice. It’s such a fun book, definitely recommend it.
and thought I'd see how my son liked it. He's a big fan
Had this book growing up, and thought I'd see how my son liked it. He's a big fan, telling random people all about the walls the Grover built. It's a fun book to read for story time, with a good lesson about how sometimes the things that frighten us turn out to be not so bad.
Classic Story that I now get to share with my kids
Great story I would totally recommend. was able to share with my kids and now it is one of their favorite stories as well
I loved this book as a child
I loved this book as a child, and now I love reading it to my son! Grover thinks there is a scary monster at the end of the book, so tries all sorts of different things to get you to stop turning the page. Of course, the monster at the end is Grover - so not scary at all :)
Great story. Watch for sharp edges on cover.
This was always one of my childhood favorites and now i read it to my daughter. Fun little book with a nice surprise for them at the end, that never seems to get old. My only complaint is with Little Golden Books in general. The cardboard covers have crazy sharp edges that can literally cause serious cuts! I'm not a bubble-wrapping my kid either - they are sharp!!
TIMELESS and Priceless
This was my sons favourite, I always had to read it to him in Grovers voice and it is now the younger ones favourite as well !!! It is so funny to watch Grover prepare, fall apart, prepare again, fall apart again etc., scared of the horrible monster he has heard is at the end of the book....only to find........himself!! It is a great, funny, fear calming book. Who wasn't afraid of monsters in the dark as a child? And this illustrates, it is all in ones imagination, so do not be afraid. Grover is silly and cute all the while he is sooo very afraid, which is delightful to all . Excellent book, it is a real classic.
Smaller than I expected
I should have read the details better. When I chose hardback I was expecting something a bit bigger. But still a wonderful book!
Great book
I bought the book for a baby shower. It was both of my son's favorite story growing up. This book is paperback and I prefer the board book but it was still nice.
This is a classic
This was my favorite book as a child. My kids loved it and now I bought it for my granddaughter and she loves it
Cute book
Such a cute book. My kids ask for me to read this one over and over again. It is a definite favorite in our house.

Just like I remember
My grandmother read this book to me when I was a child and I liked it a lot. Grover tries roping the pages together to keep you from flipping it, and tries to convince you not to turn the pages so you don't get to the monster. Not to spoil it -- I assume this is an adult audience -- but the monster at the end is Grover himself. If your child is five years-old or older, I recommend saying, "Well, he says not to turn the page! I guess we can't finish!" Then the child should turn the page anyway. It gave me the giggles when I was young, and my son likes that, too.
Classic
A classic story. You cant go wrong. I got the hard cover so my grandson couldn't destroy it..... so far so good!!!
Super cute and silly book
My 4 and 6 year olds love this book! My 4 year old is super silly and this book fits his personality so well!
Great Classic Golden Book!
I love this story. This was read to me as a child and I recently purchased it to read to my almost-2-year-old. He was very interested in the story, he says "oh-no! a monster!" He understands the premise and stays interested, he even looks at me and laughs at the end, and asks to read it again. 5 Stars for a classic Golden Book!
Perfect condition. Fast shipping
Got these at a great price. Really fast shipping and perfect condition. One of my nieces or nephews will love this! It was one of my favorites growing up.
Buy This Book!
Love this book! My only suggestion would be to buy a Grover puppet to read the book aloud to kids. Great price and fast shipping.
An old favorite
Gave this book to my mid-30's son to read with his 6 year old child...he loved it as a kid, it was one of his favorites. Read it with the proper voice inflections for extra giggles..."You turned the page!!!"
Adorable story
Best book ever! My kids loved it growing and now my grandkids love the story! Of course when you read it you have to use your Grover voice! ❤️
Lovable Elmo and Grover Story
My 4 year old is obsessed with this book. He takes it everywhere. I remember this as a kid, such a fun story.
my favorite book. I actually bought this one for the ...
Even at 38 years old...my favorite book. I actually bought this one for the daughter of a friend because I learned she loved Grover but had not read this book, which I found abominable. So, I did what any true Grover fan would do and bought her a copy. Such a cute book and I do an awesome Grover voice so that just makes the book better. BUY THIS BOOK! YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT! It will be the best life decision you have ever made and you will owe it all to me.
Spoiler in photo; Cute, mini sized board book
Cute, funny board book that toddlers will love. Spoiler in the photo.
Fun book! Kids will love it if you read it in the Grovervoice.
Great book to read. But be prepared you need to do the Grover voice to make it extra fun. My kids love this book and now I will buy it for my grandkids. This book was for a baby shower
Two generations of children love this book
I read this book years ago to my children and now I'm reading it for my grandchildren. And the grandchildren love it every bit as much as their parents. It's a great book for dramatic reading and the kids love to mimic that when they say they're reading it themselves.
One of my favorites!
I love this book and have the original Little Golden Book. This one is bigger, but it is the same story. If you read it as Grover, kids love it. They love to turn the pages despite Grover's objections. I have not read this book to a child yet who didn't like it. Some may say that it is bad for kids because it teaches them to disobey, but I say that we have a lot of opportunities to teach them how to behave. If we find a book that engages them, we should use it.
