One of the BEST books for PTSD, MILITARY OR NON-MILIATRY.
This is excellent for everyone who is suffering with PTSD, whether military or civilian. Within the first three chapter I had more information than I have received in over two years of counseling. I am non miliatry, diagnosed with PTSD from Domestic Violence. I am already learning how to cope in "trigger" situations. After 5 years of overwhelming and unmanageable panic attacks I honestly do see a light. I continue to read this book, highlight everything they have already put in "bold" and have it with me all the time. I am out of my home more often, I find myself catching the stinking thinking more often and it helps me to put myself back into "this moment". I plan to purchase more of these books and give them to my Doctor, my counselor and some friends. I am still learning, and making steps forward.
Combat P.T.S.D.
This is a very good read for veterans. It is not a considered read in treatment at the V.A. presently as they work within their own limited treatment modalities for the sake of their biased research. It's unfortunate, but having said that I recommend that veterans especially those with combat P.T.S.D read this manual and gain from it valuable insight. re: Understanding of symptoms and reactive brain activity. This can assist veterans in understanding triggers that lead to problematic behaviors re: Aggression, Self-Medication, and Relationship Difficulty due to issues of mistrust. I have learned a lot from this manual and I am thankful for it's having been published. I have ordered copies to give to counselors and also have given a few copies to correctional facilities in hopes that they will develop programs re: Rehabilitative with consideration of co-occurring disorder treatment.
An Operators Manual for Combat PTSD
This is probably the 6th or 7th copy of this book we've gotten & given away to other combat PTSD vets & their significant other. Its really helped both of us understand the physiology and changes that happens to people's brains with PTSD. A nuts and bolts explanation, short chapters, and down to earth explanations. Will help those with combat PTSD (or any other type) as well as their loved ones. A life saver.
Excellent and Practical PTSD book
I read this with a certain skepticism but I have to say this is an outstanding book on PTSD for military folks. The author gives you short, readable content with practical suggestions. From one who has suffered PTSD and gotten few answsers since my days as a Marine sniper in Nam this was such a pleasent surprise. I passed it on to my team of aging snipers and they love it. Actually has stuff you can do - well worth the read. We can tell the guy who wrote it has been counseling vet's, its not academic, its actionable. Great book!
Essay for the mind
This is a good book for starter into the PTSD topic; it does help to understand the very basics of PTSD. The book is design in a way to help the regular person to deal with the disorder and understand it. Structured in chapters and several separated essays information sometimes repeat and might seem tedious (this is not often). It is VERY BASIC into the topic, so if your are a student wanting to make a report there are better choices out there: I can refer you some. Overall a good book for those wanting to read for your OWN personal benefit.
An Operators Manual for Combat PTSD
This book contains a series of short essays written to help both people who are experiencing combat PTSD and those who live with them. Each section has highlighted words to help readers skim the essays to get the idea without having to get bogged down in a lot of information. The book covers issues such as anger, relationship difficulties, flashbacks and nightmares. This isn't a fun book but was really helpful to both my husband and myself.
Amazingly perceptive
I was in denial about having PTSD after my tour in Iraq until I read this book. When I read the first couple of chapters it felt as if he had written the book about myself. The book emphasises that PTSD is a combat injury that it is nothing to be ashamed of. I have recommended this book to other veterans and feel that this is the first book somebody who has (or suspects they may have) PTSD should read.
i do recommend this seller
Just what i needed for my current studies regarding PTSD symptoms. Very informative, i do recommend this seller.
Five Stars
great
Not that good
I am reading this book, I spent three years in Iraq and came back a bit rattled, I am watching many of my friends' lives fall apart... My main way of coping has been hiding... I do not like some of the descriptions in this book, trying to make them funny or silly like dinosaur dump or wild ride- that does not describe the terror I feel every time I hear a siren or a door slam- I also feel that concepts are crammed in the book but no real 'action plans' are given "get though the anger to vulnerability"- I cant understand what that means.... OK book but really, I do wish I did not read these 'great' reviews as I am not seeing them as valid. The author does not have a real picture of a war zone or the horrors that go with that, that is very clear- I dont get a sense of 'understanding' and I cant relate to much of what she is saying.

An Operators Manual for PTSD
A bit too much pscho-babbble for the average vet. I got this for my son, who I know will read the first few pages, and never pick it up again.
