Ideal for the armchair bird enthusiast or dedicated bird watcher, this book includes stunning full-color photographs, revealing each species with unrivaled clarity.
A lavish introduction describes bird characteristics and behavior, while stunning full-color photographs reveal individual species for easy identification.
The 550 most commonly seen birds are pictured in clear, close-up photographs, with images of similar birds provided to make differentiation easy, from game birds and waterfowl to shorebirds and swifts to owls, hummingbirds, finches, and more. Discover which species to expect when and where with up-to-date, color-coded maps highlighting habitation and migratory patterns.
The most commonly seen species are given a whole page in the species catalog, and each full-page profile includes images of plumage variations, subspecies, information on similar birds, and artwork of the bird in flight that reveal their outstretched wings.
Rare birds and vagrants who occasionally stray into North America are also described, making AMNH Birds of North America one of the most comprehensive guides on the market and essential for anyone interested in birding.

Fantastically Beautiful Calendar!
As a kid from back in the '50s, I took birds for granted. I thought some of them were pretty (robins, blue-jays and cardinals), but otherwise did not pay much attention to them. As a retiree, I slowly began to pay more attention to birds in general, and particularly to those who regularly visited a small bush right outside of my home office window. I have become amazed at the variety of birds who visit at least semi-regularly. I have now become an amateur bird-watcher, and am attempting to catch up on lost time. Buy this calendar. You will not be disappointed.
Poor packing practices
The “AMNH Birds of North America” is a fantastic book, couldn’t be happier. My comment is about packing and shipping, what a disappointment!! This book was meant to be displayed on a coffee table, but due to the “smashed” and “rounded off corner”, sadly it will go into a drawer.
Excellent Reference for Home
Have only had about a week to review but very impressed so far. Good reference for home: hard-cover, glossy paper, large number of birds covered, pictures of birds showing differences based on sex, age, map showing range of birds in different seasons. Large and heavy; not something you will take with you to view birds. I have several other books that I will ditch in favor of this one.
Beautiful Big Volume For Bird Lovers
Beautiful large pictures and good, updated general information on distribution and population stability of birds in North America. The sound app is a fun and useful bonus. This is a large volume meant for home use, not the field. I’m very pleased with this purchase
Sweet book
I have a different book I use but wanted one with more information on each bird. This is as big as a encyclopedia on birds. So excited about using it with my bird watching.
Beautiful
Large hardcover, beautiful depictions of the birds, very informative. High quality book, very impressed!
AMNH Birds of North America
WOW-Eeeee! This is the perfect book of North American Birds for anyone's library. I found the pictures to be amazing and the reading brings the birds to life. Over 700 pages. This is one field guide that is a must have.
BEAUTIFUL PICTURES
Big beautiful book of birds. very easy to understand. always get good deals on Amazon... if i were to go into a book store to buy this book. i would walk out empty handed. the cost is too much. i know the library is a good place for information. but i like to have my own little collection.
wow, just wow! incredible amount of research went into this
I love just picking this up and browsing through it at random. chock full of photos and info. the index is very helpful too.
Perfect coffee table book
Love the color pictures with just enough information. Nice size heavy hard cover book that also would accent any table. The only negative I have would be in the shipping as stated by others in reviews the book was damaged bent corners and binder.
