Reviews (104)

A good ongoing story

These books are fun and interesting. The author does a nice job keeping the characters unique and true to self. The legal aspect of this one was a little weak. I likd how the characters work to divulge and review the complexity of the legal issue with everyone contributing. In this one, the legal description and review is limited to a list of 5 or 6 things repeated at least twice without detail or revelation. If I didn't want a little legal education with my story- why would I read legal thrillers? Please give us more of that. Rifka is pretty comfortable with her life- no real reason to keep beating that bush. If she was being herself- the riot would happen but maybe she could of done something different. Maybe there would be more of a story there.too quick and too wrapped up with a bow.

Another fun story

This series continues to evolve. It started out good and has got better over time. If you are looking for a bit of a different twist on the usual doomsday scenario science fiction, I would highly recommend this series. The characters are developing well and there is, as usual, a supporting cast of tie in characters with the rest of the Kurtherian universe. Well worth the time to read.

Everything you need in a scifi adventure far from earth

A great yarn spinning away into space, with all the gadgets you could possibly need, snarky talk and every kind of creature , including that strange and unpredictable ones, humans and their need for adventure and justice. With deftly sketched characters and strange and wonderful worlds, escape into infinity.

I love this series!!!

Just what I needed, a story of Justice working the way it should! Rivka and her crew/family are wonderful distraction I needed from the world of today. Laughter, danger, excitement (the fish!!), and the law applied as it was meant to be. I've read every book in this series and each of them deserved the 5 stars I have them. Thank you Craig Martelle!!!

This is a super fun series so far

I really enjoyed all the books in this series so far. There has been a lot of really fun character development. It tied back into the other kutherian universe books enough to make it fun that way as well. I definitely recommend this series. Hopefully there will be future books as well.

Another winner!!

I absolutely love the J J & E series!! Whatever you do, please don't stop. Who knew that so many aspects of the law could be so interesting? Always just enough twists to keep it interesting. I always jump right into every book when it is released. Now I hope to get some sleep tonight!!

YES!

Not as earthshaking a deliberation as her previous cases but just as much action and shows some evolution of her gang. And lots of fun. I read it in one day. It helps that I hardly ever wait to read the "Judge" books once they are available. This is a great series.

Another Awesome Adventure!

I will always read this series the characters are great the story is always balanced and somehow the author can sneak in some legal learning with every story lol. If you are looking for a great book series to sink your teeth and time into look no further cause you found it here!

Another great adventure, thank you for all the fun

I'm always surprised at how deeply I become immersed in these fantastic adventures. You make me laugh, cry, and feel the anger of Rivka. The characters are alive and kicking in my head, and I am loving every minute of it. Please keep them coming.

Great series, this book wow.

I have liked every book in this series. It just keeps getting better and better. I love Rivkas' family on the ship. Can not wait to see where their next adventure takes them.

Great as always

Own has the right to the plant that is the question. Turns out there are 3 groups of survivors from the crashed spaceship and a mine company that might have the rights!

Fast, fun, and fantastic! Galactic legal beagles with plasma rifles!

Marcelle and Anderle deliver again and again! Fun Sci fi on the space frontier, with characters of all sorts blended well and shaken. Grab this one and enjoy!

Totally enjoying this series

As the purpose and characters development has been fun to see. The topics and themes of the books are ones we grapple with as technology becomes more advance. COVID is an example of how people respond to science— accept, reject or ignore... until they get sick/die.

Another winner!

This book is another. I easily relate to the author’s sense of humor. I even stayed up well past what’s good for me on a work night finishing the book

Just wonderful

Is all I can say about this story. I love Ricks and now she has her candy with her, boy on boy. Exciting times with people trying to do things underhanded but they always get caught in time. Great story.

Ten books already!

Rivka and Company sally forth once again to render justice where justice is due. Very entertaining and I recommend it for a nice fall read.

Wow

I really enjoyed reading this book. I have enjoyed reading this series. I like How they are an awesome family and the AIs..make that the SIs are part of it.

This series keeps getting better.

Adverse Possession is just as good as the first book. It's nice to see the team expanding and deal with the growing pains of their expanding family. As always Justice prevails despite the obstacles the team encounters on the way.

My favorite of the series so far

Although I’ve enjoyed the entire series immensely, I think this one is my favorite. At least until the next one comes out. There will be spoilers so if you haven’t read it yet, you may want to stop here. Although the story stands on its own, if you are new to the series you really should start from the beginning. We start with the crew split up for some well-deserved down time. Rivka is hanging with her dentist boyfriend, Groenwyn is hanging with Cordy Walton on the planet of fairies, while Red and Lindy finally get their honeymoon. There aren’t at the resort 5 mins before Red suffers FOMO and they end up on the intergalactic comms to reassure him that Rivka won’t start another mission (erm, case) without them. Since the ship is now serving as the embassy for the Singularity, it’s getting several upgrades and there are now more AI’s on board than Rivka can keep track of. As she’s a VIP to the Singularity, she discovers that she is under constant surveillance, which makes her question privacy issues, but she is quickly reassured. The case of miners v. farmers turns out to be not as straight forward as chasing criminals and Rivka seems to side with the plight of the farmers initially. The miners themselves aren’t the enemy, they’re just the wage slaves to the big bad corporation that employs them. However, the minerals the planet has are valuable resources that all Federation tech relies on and further, are in sufficient quantities to make giving AI’s synth bodies a reality, giving the Singularity a vested interest in the outcome. Rivka briefly seems to question whether or not they can be impartial or if this will present a conflict of interest, but she is quickly reassured about that as well. Two additional settlements are discovered and it turns out that neither “side” has a legitimate claim leaving Rivka free to mediate something acceptable to all. Along the way, she allows her desire for a little more of the type of action the team is used to to get the better of her and she inadvertently escalates things, coincidentally providing a bad actor at the corp the means to attempt a coup and suddenly, they’re in a fight for their life, while trying to not kill anyone. The cast continues to grow with Tyler Toofakre looking to be a permanent member of the team going forward and he realizes that he really wants to step up to what that means, not shy away from it like he did after his previous experience. He and several others, including Red and Rivka, get some decent character development. Chaz gets a girlfriend, and they both get (anatomically correct) bodies. The AI’s are developing unique personalities, and many are wise cracking characters just like the meat bags they associate with. I can’t say for sure, but this book may have had the most actual LOL moments of the series. The saddest part was reading in the author notes that we’ll have to wait until 2021 for the next installment. On the plus side, it looks like we’ll get to see more of Cordy and others from the Bad Company, which is nice since that series has ended.

Adverse Possession - a review by Rosemary Kenny

Magistrate Rivka Anoa is forced to bring tough justice to bear, as she arbitrates between rival factions at Rorke's Drift, a distant planet under the Federation's aegis. Aboard the Wyatt Earp, on the mission are Red, Lindy, Sahved, Ankh, dentist Tyler and doctor Cole. They find a large mining company is trying to oust peaceful farming communities from their lands. Rivka manages to broker a deal suitable to all factions, after some unexpected consequences and an arrest. Needless to say, peace is promptly restored and a Federation interim government is established on Rourke's Drift. Read the glorious denouement of Adverse Possession, #11 in the Judge, Jury and Executioner series by the wonderfully creative Craig Martelle, - it'll stir your heart and blow your mind!

The Cases Are Taking A Backseat To The Family Storyline

I have enjoyed this series up until the last couple of books when the story has become more about the family the magistrate is creating instead of the cases. The book is hardly the Judge, Jury & Executioner anymore, it is more like Feel Warm & Fuzzy, Act On Warm & Fuzzy and go home to Warm & Fuzzy. The MC has went from being a logical type lawyer to a all about the feelings lawyer. It seems that anytime an author begins to make a family in their books, the original theme goes away and becomes focused on the family members with the original theme as an after thought to the book. I am unsurprised that another author has went this route as that seems to be the theme among authors these days. I will be adding this author to my list of do not reads because of the changing focus of the books.

Got me good !!

St first I was "put off" by the way the story was moving but I thot these guys haven't turned a lump ever and kept flipping the pages... somewhere after I decided to continuue to continue you got me. From a desultory read your MAGIC kicked in and its near the end of the story. SNEAKY AND SNEAKIER... you guys are gGOOD!!!! THANK YOU for what you do I am retired 72 trapped by the virus issus into sitting like a couch potato house bound and if not for the goodness you all bring into my lonesome daze I would be dealing w/depression and bummed out f'd up sheet. You have no idea how much your reads make for a mellow day. Always been a reader not into TV so I salute you and what you do and thank you again... be safe stay sane and be serene AMAP Lawrence

Great read

All of Michael’s books are awesome. So I think I’ve come up with a new meaning for the word Faction, it’s the addition of fact and fiction. Where you must decide if what the author is writing fact or fiction? I just don’t understand where all his ideas come from. Does he sleep, eat.....? I understand he has other authors help him but still, it’s crazy how many books come out with his name on them and their all great reads. I am retired Navy and love to read. I held above Top Secret security for 20 yrs. That’s where my idea for faction comes in. Always thought of writing a book where it was part truth and part, lies? LOL Have a good life and keep reading.

Great book and great series!

Love, love, love this series! The books are so well written. By now I really feel as if I am part of this wonderful family. Reading these books helps me forget, for a short time, how awful things are in our world right now. Escapism at its best. I truly hope Mr. Martelle continues this series for a long time. On a side note, I must have missed something somewhere. I did not know that Rivka’s relationship with Tyler had progressed to the girlfriend-boyfriend stage. Other than a few lunches here and there, where they just appeared to be friends, and now in this book, they are living together. I will have to go back and see where they started progressing to the next stage.

I need more Rivka!

I'm ashamed to say that as much as I love these books, this is the first review I have written in quite some time. That being said, I absolutely love Rivka and her team. I have read all the books in this series and all the books in the series (KGU) that led to this one. If you love justice and kicking butt, with plenty of humor mixed in, these books will keep you plenty engaged and missing sleep. Rivka and her team go on missions (cases) to fight the bad guys and deal with them as only the law can. Plenty of action, characters that you can relate to, adventures and technology that will make you wish it was real life. If you just came across this series, start with book one and you'll be hooked.

Love this series.

Love this series. I read a lot of sci-fi and Rivka and company has me hooked. Each time I finish one book, I can't wait for the next installment. The idea of honorable judge, jury and executioner rolled into one combined with that special gift/curse makes an awesome read. Having a cast of well developed supporting characters is icing on the cake. This particular book did not disappoint with its exploration into the depths of the emancipation of an entire population of AI's. I recommend starting at the beginning of the series so you can enjoy all of them.

Terrific Series

I am not a great fan of series that go on and on. When I started these I fully expected to drop them after one or two. Well, I was wrong. I have thoroughly enjoyed each book and have looked forward to the next. The characters are well drawn and well developed, the plots are entertaining and fun to read, there is even a little legal analysis to keep things interesting. The latest was a a little weaker in terms of the legal aspects but that did not detract from the enjoyment. I am looking forward to the next book in the series and highly recommend them.

Rivka always gives a great story

Most of the regular crew is here for the newest case, with a very special guest star. One of my favorite people from the Walton family is riding along with the Justicar and giving assistance where needed. The guest is also given one of the most special gifts possible, but I'm not going to spoil it. We seem to be getting a slower and saner case, but that isn't possible with this crew. It's laugh out loud and edge of the seat right to the end. Another great outing for the toughest barrister in the Galaxy.

Another tricky mission--er, case, for Rivka and crew!

I have loved this series from the first-- and it never fails to satisfy. It is fun to watch the characters grow and develop different aspects of self...like real people do. (And kick butt while doing so!) Adding the AI/SI entities into the cycle of growth is a great new challenge; I look forward to seeing what directions that takes! Craig Martelle has written several series and this is HIS favorite. It shows! Don't just take my word for it, open it up and read it!

Improvement to high quality

Craig has raised his writing level to complex, witty, and clear. It’s easy to follow due to his craftsmanship being improved. Scenes are linked and no incorrect references to events, places, etc. that don’t make sense. Great use of humor that isn’t overwhelming perverted. It’s very hard to write “in character” from so many characters perspective and keep it true to each one. Craig has accomplished that feat. He’s grown so much since I first “met” his talent. This is a great series. Keep Rivka bringing the long arm to the galaxy.

Great!!

I have read all of this series. I really like it. I hope the series will continue for as long as possible. It helps me cope with real world. Between cancer and the pandemic I am feeling somewhat down. Reading this series really helps. I have already read through all the books twice just waiting for the next book. I wonder if Tyler has what it takes to follow this life. I think Lindy and Red could be a little difficult.

You have been Judged!!

I LOVE this series. Please keep them coming. I really do not want to see Savhed leave I think he is such a good character for the crew, he is learning law and so much more I just think he is a good one to keep around. I think the whole crew flows together nicely. You write really great Craig, thank you for this wonderful series you have made me read a whole different category and I love it!! Keep em coming!

As good as book 1.

Rivka is at it again! Bring justice to the far corners of the Federation with her crew both old and new. I love the snark, tenacity, and fearlessness of Rivka. Her crew of eclectic characters adds so much to the story and humor throughout. Yes the story is about a barrister but it is mostly about the characters and doing what's right for all. I highly recommend this book and series. You won't be disappointed.

Best one yet

I have loved Rivka from the first book and this book leaves me eager for the next while being satisfying on its own. I admit I reread the entire series (something I'm thrilled to be able to do) so the progression is fresh in my mind. Great characters who evolve, stories that remain fresh and entertaining, pretty much everything I look for in a book. Kudos to Craig Martelle

Fantastic

Each book of this series just keeps getting better and better. The characters are growing in their attitudes and emotions. The reader keeps learning more about past historys of the different planets, people and SI's. Th storyline draws th reader in so much so that you forget the time. It has humor, adventure and romance and snark. Loved it and want more.

Keep ‘me coming!

Another great book in my favorite KGU series! I love watching as Rivka’s team continues to evolve and mature. The character development in this series is second to none. That’s not to say the plot isn’t great, don’t get me wrong! I’m absolutely blown away by the consistently high quality of writing I’m able to read for free with Kindle Unlimited. Thank you, Mr, Martelle! I can’t wait for number 11!

WELL WORTH THE TIME!

This entire series captures the adventures of one adventurer and her crew as they become family and model the Kurtherian universe’s basic foundation, that there are good people out there, and on our world too. Life is stressful and it is good to see that through our foibles and trials and tribulations good does win most of the time. These books allow you to relax, explore human (and sentient) interactions, while being stimulating enough to stir your emotions and engage we, the readers. Great job by Craig and Michael for imagining and then relating the stories and adventures of the Kurtherian Universe. Peace and wear your mask!

Tech meets agriculture

Having history with the mineral rights versus surface rights conflict, I found Rivkas pursuit of fairness and a way out of the problems to be very interesting. I am interested in how the settlers adjust to having their isolation disturbed. Maybe they will need the Rivkas services again( hint hint) Keep writing these, I love this series.

Another well done book in the series.

I enjoyed this book very much. It is like an action adventure and a law tutorial all in one. It has a great mix of characters and their interactions with each other are very humorous. If you want to good sci-fi story and learn something at the same time read this book as well as the series.

Really great series, exciting, intriguing and very entertaining!

Congratulations to Craig Martelle for another amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and exciting author who not only write intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book.

Damn! This man can write!

I have enjoyed every book in this series. Each is different from the other, although many characters and the themes of justice, fairness (not always the same thing), and morality are in each. You would be hard pressed to find better writing and a better series.

Procrastination ends

I put off reading this book as....long as I could. But I could resist no longer. The magistrate stories are among my favorites because of the characters and their interaction. A fantastic read, now I must wait for the next one,,,,until then.

Never dissapointing

I love this series. The action is superb and the legal thriller part is great. I have enjoyed every book in this series. I would recommend this to anyone who would enjoy a thriller and a very well written story. The characters are a hoot!

JJ&E 11 Continues the Fun

Book 10 is as engaging as book 1. Red and Lindy finally get their honeymoon and that is just the beginning of the fun. Opposing factions facing off and a bit of mayhem as only Rivka and crew can provide. I'm looking forward to book 11.

Can I stake a clame

I love this series, for the most part I think Lawyers are a waste of space but this one is great to read.Three 👍👍👍 This like the other books in this series are a really fun read.the writing stile is space quirky.

Excellent reading

The continuing allure of this fascinating series is outstanding. As always you know just what is needed to make it an amazing read, cannot wait for the next read in book. It is something that I can’t wait to get home to read. Please don’t ever stop.

Never enough

I'm sure someone has made the hint of making these books into movies. They are so vivid in their visuals of the mind you just want to see them with your eyes. Can't get enough of the stories or should I say cases.

On to the next case.

I enjoy these books the characters are interesting. No two cases are alike. Rivka has much angst in using her gift as well as in the full use of her power as a Magistrate. That kind of power shouldn’t come easily.

Hamilton Reviews.

I enjoy this series a lot. I read every new one in this series because I adore the characters. This plot became very complicated from a simple premise. Endangered children, declining population and who really owned rights to the planet. Corporate skulduggery is involved.

Who knew Lawyer's could be fun to read about?

I guess you have to add some Wombat's, aliens, minors, miner's and corporate low life's to the mix to generate the interest this chapter in the Magistrate's series. My favorite series next to Bethany Anne's.

Good story in a favorite series.

This was another good story in series. Rivka works her magic and also discovers she is not infallible. New characters are introduced which has its positives and negatives. I enjoy following this series.

Very enjoyable

Who would have thought you could write science fiction and space ships around the legal term of adverse possession. The book was fun, the usual cast of characters nice to be reunited with. Not too many fights or extreme violence, this one was nice.

Edutainment?

Another legal concept artfully illustrated and explained through allegory. The elder was an addition that really stretched both the story and reader's minds. Greatly entertaining. Many thanks.

A Great Series---Keep it going, Please

Love the story, Love the Series. A enjoyable law space opera. Action, adventure, I always watch for new releases of this series. Keep it going.......Thanks for all your hard work in writing it

A twist with a kink

The machinations of mankind are endlessly fascinating and frustrating. Loved the way this taught how convoluted a simple concept could become when viewed from differently.

Justice Rules.

Magistrate Rivka. Judge, jury and executioner. She and her crew/family get only the hard cases because she believes in LAW. You’ll love her and the crew, the SI’s and new crew members, but they’re new only in person.

Wow! This book woke my entire brain.

Great writing, great characters, wowser fights and more. Rivka never disappoints! At present this series is at the top of all. Please Craig Martelle, keep them coming.

Thanks for giving me more Rivka

Thank you so much for giving me another story about Rivka. I really enjoy them and was not disappointed by the plot. I also would like another Superdreadnought story.

Wow, what a series!

The concept of a lawyer riding roughshod over a crazy cast of criminals and nefarious nincompoops is so original you've just got to read it. How do you come up with so many plot lines? It does my heart good to see an author make such an impact on entertainment using technology unimaginable 20 years ago. Props

Unexpected!

I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this installment. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. Characters getting developed in unexpected ways and as always with Rivka a fun romp in the galaxy!

Great

The story continues but thus one had so many twist and turns I could not put it down. I mean how many could have imagined what was found at the crash site?

Fun with Great Lessons

As always will written and good legal/moral base to tell a wonderful story. The characters continue to develop and evolve. Ready for the next book.

Love it

I’m so glad to see this series still going strong. Rivka and crew are great characters w great morals to each story. I wish I had a family like hers. :)

Good vs Evil

Exciting action with lovable characters that bob and weave around twists and turns. Start at the beginning and hold on for the ride.

Good Read

A very interesting approach to life and the law. I would think that the singularity could come up with some better personal protection?

Lovir

As always Craig never disappoints. The story fows and keeps the readers engaged. Thanks Craig for the many hours of e enjoyable reading.

Yes

Once again a great read as the crew go threw new and exciting growing pains... and as always we see justice served the way it should be.

Wonderful reading!

This is another wonderful read. You have grown the characters into so much more. The have taken on a life of their own. It's great to see Red and Lindy growing. Mr Martelle I wish to thank you for all the stories you have brought to us, and please bring more:). Thanks again. Mark

Interesting case

As a realtor, I'm a little familiar with the rules for adverse possessions in my state. Contested ownership is a sure way to get lawyers involved. Good story!

Yes yes yes

One of my favorite series!! More please! Love Rivka and the gang, always looking forward to the next one keep them coming

A flying potpourri

The way the Wyatt Earp keep on collecting strays, it become a real zoo of multi species cooperation. That's just one of the quirk that really make this series alive

Well balanced storyline

Rivka has become a favorite character, flawed but erstwhile in her daily dealings with criminals. Adverse Possession is great read.

Great read!

Another great book following the trials and tribulations of Rivka and her team! I thoroughly enjoyed the indepth look at seeing the various characters engaging with the locals on the planet and helping them out. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Never enough!

This series is truly one of my favorites. The combination of legal exploration and space! How could it be any better? AI, SI, and a wombat.

Always a great read!

Can go wrong with any of the books in this series. The character development is fantastic and a great story!

Solid story in the series, fun and progressive in the storyline.

A well written tale in the series. I liked how the ai changes are part of the storyline and effect how the end result adjust to new reality.

Outstanding!

Love Rivka and her friends. Lot's of action and character interaction. Must read series.

Great Read!

Adverse Possession is an excellent addition to this series. This series is a fun read that challenges legal theory in interesting ways.

Good book

Great characters , an interesting plot and a well written book. Overall , five stars. Now we just have to wait for book eleven.

Great Read!

One more Rivka book and a very interesting story. Adverse possession has always offered plenty of possibilities for misunderstandings. Add in a few dishonest people and you have the makings of a great story.

great book

Sleepless night again. I can't put this series down. I love how the team grows and expands. I love the comarodarie flows through practical jokes to pranks then pizza parties. can't wait for more.

Love these guys

I have read all the books in this series to date. I find them to be incredible adventures we are privileged to go on with a great eclectic bunch.

5 star series

I can't wait for the next book I'm excited to see what happens with Chaz and the rest of the singularity. Craig does an amazing job keeping things interesting and as a reader I can't put the book down

Adverse Possession

I really enjoy this series as well as the T H Walton series. The characters have depth, there is loads of action and emotion, and I love the humor. More please.

Good reading

I enjoy the adventures of the Magistrate and crew. The series is fun to read and yet when you contemplate the issues they address they are quite complex and relevant.

He did it again

So Craig has done a fantastic job giving voice to the multitude of personalities. I have read a couple of his other non KGU series and they are just as good. Keep it real in AK Craig. Mark

good continuation of the series

well thought out characters return for another sequel.

Great Read!!!

Great Read!!!

Wonderful. Need more of these.

Thank you authors for such a great storyline. I hate when a book ends. Always left wanting more. And more..

Love this series hope u continue with the good work

This was a great series. I would recommend this to everyone that likes a good read.Reds my favorite one always ready to kickass

Great series.

So many wonderful character’s in this series. It just gets better. Thank you I look forward to the next in the series.

.

Can't wait for the next book. Always a pleasure to see where the team is headed. Great to see a glimpse of past Bad Company characters.

Brilliant Book Series

I have read every book in this series and look forward to the future books. The books are so interesting and compelling that I have read two books in one day a couple of times.
