Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned ... especially a dead one holding a grudge.

Back on Deadwood's list of Usual Suspects, Violet Parker is hip deep in wild frights and fired-up females. After juggling bitter threats, haunted buildings, and vengeful ghosts, the last thing she needs is a pair of bullheaded detectives trying to pin another murder on her tail.

Can Violet find the real killer before she ends up behind bars? Or worse, on a slab at the morgue.

A Reading the Paranormal Review

I kind of feel sorry for Violet. I mean, she gets blamed for A LOT of things that she ultimately has no control over. Like the dead people who keep popping up around town. It isn't her fault she stumbles over them with alarming regularity. Well, wait. Maybe it kind of is her fault. I mean, she does go chasing trouble more often than not. Which I get because she's pathologically unable to walk away from something when it puts others in danger and her bloodline makes her better suited than most to hunt these baddies down, BUT STILL! Poor Violet gets blamed for a lot of things. That said, she is assembling a solid team of people who have her back. A solid team who have skills that complement hers, even. She might be (slowly) learning the ins and outs of her heritage, but she's getting the job done. Mostly. Anyway.. Violet, Doc, and the crew have their work cut out for them as they move deeper into the gritty world of ghosts, demons, and the creepers who want to set the world on fire. Metaphorically. Those guys are kind of jerks, but they're still not as jerky as Violet's ex. Which says a lot, doesn't it? -Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal

Another boot stomping (purple of course) episode

Another great installment in the Deadwood series. The Good, the bad, and the ugly tribute was hilarious! I like that Violet seems to finally be growing as a person and not rushing into things without thinking. Oh don't worry there is still plenty of hijinx and attitude. In other words these books seem to be getting better. Definitely not the same stuff different day rut some book series get in. You will love how Natalie torments Rex!, it's way better than just beating the crap out of him.So if you have been following the series, clear your calendar and start reading. If you haven't been reading well clear your week and start at the beginning. The books really do build on each other.

Awesome

I love the book. The characters are easily liked and easy to relate to. I love the messes Violet gets into. These books are one of the best series ever written. Doc, Nat, Harvey and especially Coop are fantastic characters. I highly recommend these books to anyone. The conversations and teasing are spectacular. The barbs traded between Coop and Violet are wonderful. I love the snarky exchanges and attitudes. It really makes the book fantastic. I loved the book so much, I read it in one sitting, now I have to wait for book 8. Can you hurry and write the next book please? You will really enjoy Violet and her entourage. They are the best. Waiting.......for book 8!!

As rootin' tootin' as the first six novels. I want more!

How can one smart woman find so much trouble? Well, it seems to me trouble finds Violet. Now that she knows and sort of accepts that she is the Executioner of all the bad non-human demon types in Deadwood, she is dogged by a number of crazies -- some human and some non-human. Still a suspicious character and person of interest in several murders according to Deadwood's law, too. Meanwhile, Violet sells real estate (sort of), makes ends meet and adores her boyfriend, Doc. It's starting to look serious, too. Between seances, evil Rex, sister from hell, and demons trying to kill her, Violet has her hands full. This seventh novel is as rollicking as the first six with firecracker dialogue and incredibly awkward/scary ghost/demon hunting. The rich characters bring humor to the ever-racing plot with just the right amount of seriousness to ground the outlandish happenings around Deadwood. Give yourself a gift of laughter and read this book.

Maybe time to draw the curtain on this series

I have read all the books in this series but I find it is starting to wear a bit thin. After a while, the theme of aggressive ghosts and Violet's battles with them becomes somewhat repetitive. Similarly her battles with Coop the sheriff have become worn and the "banter" simply becomes rather mean (Violet is always miserable to him and that doesn't reflect well on her after a while). At least she and Doc FINALLY admit their affection for one another. Frankly, I hope Ann goes back to writing more books about Jack Rabbit junction. This series is close to running its course.

Always a great story and characters

What a great read. Violet says (or thinks) what goes on in my mind daily, Doc is her knight in shining armour, Harvey is just plain straight talk and plenty of analogies. Coop is the straight laced, hard nosed officer of the law who wisecracks with Violet without cease. Natalie, Violet's best friend from childhood, helps Violet with issues and people from her past especially Vi's ex, Rex. Aunt Zoe holds back and encourages Violet in her escapades. These and many more 'character's invade each book making it a laugh-out-loud funny book with mysteries of the ghost variety. Love Ann Charles' books.

WARNING: Choking Hazard

Seriously folks, do not eat or drink anything while reading this book. I almost died twice because of this. The funny parts just kind of sneak up on you. The Deadwood crew are back and are just as funny and entertaining as ever. The situations poor Violet finds herself in many times are hilarious as well as heart poundingly frightening. This book has an excellent mix of mystery, action, steam and wit as with all of the others in this series. If ever asked, I don't think I could pick a favorite part because there are so many. I mean any time Cornelius is on the scene, when Violet and Cooper (or even Hawke) are at each other's throat, when old man Harvey just opens his mouth to speak, all of these are parts are entertaining and often hilarious. And let's not forget the sizzling chemistry between Violet and Doc. Many questions were answered, but many more have come to light. Ann Charles states at the end of this book that this series will run for quite some time and I cannot begin to explain how happy this makes me. Well done Ms. Charles! I will be anxiously awaiting the next book!

Loved this one

Loved this one. I really enjoy Ann Charles and as soon as I see a new title I pick it up on my Kindle. I've recommended her to several friends who are also hooked. Her characters are great- funny and likable and are well developed. If you haven't read any of her books I recommend all the different series- I like how the characters are all "related" in some way- some by blood and some by relationships- but read the series from the first book so you know what's going on. Will definitely be looking for the next one

Shocked!

The story is great. The characters are as well. But I have a HUGE issue with Violet letting Doc just up and pick up her kids without asking or even teling. Then on top of that he has them keeping secrets from her and she's just like oh well. Most children who are abused are abused by people close to the family. This book tells people it is okay for a man you just started dating to take your kids without permission and keeps secrets. Crazy just blows my mind.

More ghosts, and other creatures of the night! Great Read!!

Another great mystery from Ann Charles! Deadwood will never be the same to me again after this series! I knew there were ghosts and haunted hotels in Lead and Deadwood. Now I'm almost afraid to go visit! A Wild Fright in Deadwood just keeps adding on to the base book. Great character writing, you get a feel for all her characters and by the end of the book, you know why each is in the story. Trust me, they are not just fillers! Some of the ghosty stuff is hard to wrap by head around, but I know when I read them again (which I will do!) I will understand just a little more each time. Some scary parts you might end up screeching at, definite funny parts you can't help but giggle out loud at!

Mystery, romance and laugh out loud fun will have you sitting on the edge of your seat.

Ann Charles does it again! "A Wild Fright In Deadwood" is the 7th book in her Deadwood Series, a series that is full of mystery, ghosts, the paranormal, suspense, romance and laugh out loud fun! This book will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Real Estate Agent Violet Parker is doing more than selling houses. There is something going on in Deadwood, South Dakota and Violet is at the center of the ghostly activities taking place not only in Deadwood, but also Lead. Pick up this book, better yet, pick up the whole series, you won't be able to put the books down until you've read them all. Violet Parker and her purple cowboy boots are going to walk right into your heart...

and enjoyed them all

I've read all of Ann Charles Deadwood mysteries, and enjoyed them all. In many ways they are similar to the Sookie Stackhouse books, but without vampires. At least not yet. She writes humorously and really quite well, but does need to find some new words for growling (way overused), and also for teasing and eyes darkened. That and really too much discussion about Violet's hair. Yes, we all have bad hair days, but hers seem to be continuous and ongoing, with multiple people commenting on it. Other than those minor issues, I really liked the books, and am looking forward to the next one. Favorite characters are Cooper and Harvey! A fun fast read with one book picking up after the last one. It really helps to read them in sequence to keep up with the story line.

Another Deadwood Winner!!!

I have loved every book in the Deadwood series and A Wild Fright in Deadwood is no exception! Violet's life appears normal on the surface but give it a little scratch and you find that it is actually far from normal. I was really happy to see Violet's sister, Susan, show her true character (or lack thereof) and resoundingly earned her title of The Beast! I tend to have an overjoyed/deeply saddened when one of Ann's books come out. I'm overjoyed to be able to read the next chapter in the everyone's lives and see what new nightmares Violet finds herself dealing with. From a high and mighty ghost, fending off a nefarious ex, handling a sexist co-worker or fighting Albino Others, Violet somehow manages to handle them all while raising 9 year old twins and enjoying her developing love life with Doc. Buy this book and you will be hooked!

Love Violet and her entourage of characters.

Enjoyable humorous mystery series with a supernatural twist. I do have to wonder how this poor girl makes it through her life with all the unusual characters she encounters and has to deal with including, but not limited to, a sister who tries to steal all her boyfriends, an ex-boyfriend and father of her twins who is a complete jerk, and a horrible co-worker who needs to be gagged. Luckily she also has a great and very supportive boyfriend, an aunt who has taken her in and is a great advisor, and a host of wonderful friends who dearly love and care for her. The series is made more fun being set in the colorful Black Hills in real towns that can be visited. Just an overall fun series for those times when lighter fare is what you're looking for.

So Funny When You Least expect It

This series just keeps getting better! Violet has come to grips with the fact that she is an Executioner, and learns more about her paranormal powers...with a little help from Doc, her beau! Love all the characters....and the tribute to The Good, The Bad And The Ugly just cracked me up! I cannot wait to find out what happens next...Can Cooper really see ghosts now? And what does Natalie do to torment Rex next? Thanks for this series, Ms. Charles...I hope you keep adding to it for a long. long time!

Another great book in the Deadwood series

Another great book in the Deadwood series, which I absolutely love. I must admit though, at this point when we are seven books into the series and have only covered 4 months in Violet's life, I have to wonder when and where this will end. I love a great series as much as the next person, but I'm feeling my interest start to wane at this point, when there is so much going on, but we don't really make any progress with the story itself. ******SPOILER ALERT***** I mean sure, Violet is growing and learning about her abilities and she finally got up the gumption to tell Doc she loves him - but if it took seven books to get this far... I just am not quite sure how much longer Ann can string me along with this series. And I really do love it.

Best one yet...

Ann Charles has outdone herself with this latest Deadwood thriller! Such fun and what a fantastic writer and storyteller! Wow! This book had the right amount of humor, thrills, romance, and mystery to keep me glued till the last page. The banter between Violet and Cooper is spot on and kept me bringeath through the hairy ( scarey?) moments, when I c....wow....Violet is one lucky girl!. Love it and highly recommend it and anything else this talented writers puts on paper.(or kindle)could only read by peak through one eye! And Do

Great Storytelling

I ran into Ann Charles and her Deadwood series sometime ago. And I have read all of her books. I have laughed out loud and cried too. I love Violet, Doc, Elvis, old man Harvey, and the whole rest of the crazy cast of characters. I have even gotten my 76 year old mother hook on them. She loves them as much as I do (only exception is Doc and Violet getting busy), but if you would have told me even thirty years ago my mother and I would be sitting in the gazebo having coffee talking about the next book in the series of books we were reading laughing about a chicken....well I would have been like Coop...a non-believer! LOL😉

Love this Deadwood series

I have become a huge fan of Ann Charles! The Deadwood series is so much fun that I bought all 6 books so I could start with book #1. Her characters are so vividly described you feel like they are some of your own crew. The only comparison I can think of is the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Echvonovich The spelling is wrong on her last name sorry about that. I love her books but Ann Charles has her beat in my opinion. Everyone of the books in this series are tied together so I recommend starting with book one. Each book gets better with more crazy fun stuff and leaves you ready for more. Nothing boring here folks,I highly recommend them!

An awesome addition to this already awesome series!!!!!

The Deadwood series is one of my absolute favorites and it just keeps getting better! I love the fact that Violet is your average everyday person on the outside, but she's so much more. She's a real estate agent by day and she's a paranormal executioner by night. She's just trying to keep her sanity while maintaining both jobs and her many relationships with family, close friends, and even a few foes. If you love a good humorous mystery with a little romance thrown in for fun this is the series for you! I can't wait for the next book and the next one and the next one... Hopefully Ann will keep Violets story going for a long time to come!!

a nervous but determined heroine, fun friends and romance,

the books never end the way you think they will. various paranormal creatures appear and the heroine is unsure of how she should act given she never knew she had a paranormal talent. the books are fun and playful at times, often the heroine dithers, but she does her job just not the way you may be lead to expect. all in all very entertaining and good for escapist fiction. looking forward to more adventures.

Glad That Violet Has Her War Club,..Oh My!

What's with all the squinting? Must say I do enjoy Violet and her crew but Hawke gets tiresome and so does Coop and Violet always sniping at each other but still I love these books. Glad to see that Violet gets some of her own back in this one and takes charge with Doc. He was too good to get away and now they can double team the ghosts. Such a fun story and the humor has the reader laughing out loud. Even Elvis has a big role to play!!! Start with Book 1 and just enjoy yourself. Ann Charles is a fun author.

I started reading 'A Wild Fright in Deadwood' 5 seconds after I bought it. Loved it ;)

I Love Most of Ann Charles books with a passion, but there is something about the Deadwood series that keeps me always waiting for the next one, and the next, and of course the Next.. "A Wild Fright in Deadwood" is actually the 7th book in the series and just as fresh and great as the first one. I haven't done a lot of reviews yet (but may do many more) so I don't have the lingo down pat. Fact is that I would recommend this book/series to everyone. The characters are easily relatable as well as delightfully unique, like family and friends with really cool personalities. I started reading this book about 5 seconds after I bought it and honestly Love books that can make me laugh out loud at unexpected moments. While I would recommend that you get the series and read it in order, they can be read by themselves, you will just want to buy the rest half way through.. Grab a drink and a snack and settle down for a Great read with this one folks .... ;)

Another fantastic book in the series

Another fantastic book in the series! Every book I read takes me deeper into the characters - Doc and Violet, Harvey, Reid, Zoey, Cooper (whom I'm starting to like!) etc. If you're from South Dakota, you'll recognize a few local business on the pages too. But the best part of the book and the best part of the entire series is the continuing growth of Violet's abilities and her acceptance (little by little) of allowing people she loves to help her. Loved this book and can't wait for the next one.

Enjoyable reading.....but

I enjoy reading this book but I started to wonder what kind of story I'm reading. It started with Violet, a monster slayer... And then a boy friend who can smell ghost (haha), a friend who is ghost whisperer and in this book she is a medium too, oh wait ! Not only that, it seems that a policeman turned to have the ability to see ghost too!! I think it's too much of a mess. Like " tutti frutti" I still enjoy reading it. It's still a good entertainment.

I liked her Jackrabbit Junction series so much I read the ...

Ann Charles did it again. Let me say to start, I don't usually read this type of novel. However, I liked her Jackrabbit Junction series so much I read the first one in the Deadwood series and I was hooked. This newest, A Wild Fright in Deadwood was a wonderful addition to the series. The characters keep evolving and our heroin comes up with more cutting one liners that keep me smiling. They encounter some different types of "otherworlders", some I looked up in the dictionary to find out if they had a place in the history of ghouls and goblins, they did. The novel goes from humorous to scary at a fast pace, with even the sheriff starting to believe there may be something to the ghostly apparitions than he originally believed. I highly recommend this book. If you've read the series, you will enjoy this one immensely. If you haven't read the series, well, grab the first book and keep on reading.

One of the best series I’ve ever read!

This is my new favorite series! I love everything about this series! Fantastic and imaginative story line. The plot in every book is so great. The characters are wonderful and so realistic! I can’t wait to read more! Please don’t stop writing this series!

Great series, very entertaining

I have read all 7 books of this series. Great series, very entertaining! My only criticism is that the books never tie up all the loose ends. I guess that's great for book sales, but frustrating for the reader. Also, as each book introduces new people, the cast of characters is getting a bit hard to keep track of. A new reader would be lost if he/she started on Book 7.

Violet strikes again

Poor violet has more demons to deal with and still manages to have some time with Doc Nyce. They run around Deadwood doing seances and fighting the monsters that they can see and some they can’t. Ready for the next installment of a fun busy series

Mamas back

Poor Cornelius is haunted day and night. He asks violet to get the ghost out of his head, especially because she wants Parker dead. With some strange help, coop sees something in a jail cell that spooks him. I don't like to give away the best parts of the book so get some pizza, a drink, and get comfy. You won't want to put it down. If you haven't read the other books in the series, you can still read this but you are going to want to read them all.

A Wild Fright in Deadwood

I love, love, loved it!! I just love this series. This book is written with the same humor and flare that one expects from Ann Charles. I love Natalie. Her antics in this book remind me of my best friend. When everything is at it's most dire, she shows up with a "gift" for Violet. I love it!! This is one of those books and series that you hope will never end. I will be heartbroken. Yes Ann, I am looking at you. If you are looking for a fun read full of love, mystery, the paranormal and a chicken then I recommend you pick up this book.

The worst part of this book is that it ended

Damn! The worst part of this book is that it ended. All the key players are back in Charles's longest book in the series. There are no huge surprises...Violet and Doc are still hot and heavy, while Violet still struggles with self-doubt, Coop and Violet are still at each other throats and Harvey is funny as hell and Violet's bodyguard. This book is laugh-out-loud funny, the humor and hilarity makes it feel like an old friend. I felt like a wild horse being held back by the reigns, so I didn't finish the book in one sitting. I needed by old friend to stick around for awhile longer, but alas all good things must come to an end, now I am anxiously awaiting the next installment. If this is the first time hearing about Ann Charles and the Deadwood series, I envy you, as you get to start this fun ride from the beginning.

One of my favorite series

I love this series! It has everything, laughter, love, history, paranormal. I just love the characters and how feisty they are. I am laughing out loud and my husband is looking at me wondering whats going on. These books are so entertaining.

Add This Series to Your Bookshelf

If you haven't read this series, you need to start. Ann Charles writes with such an amazing style all her own. Humor, mystery, intrigue, romance....it's got it all and more. She amazes me how things simply mentioned in one line or two in the first books comes to play in the later books. Questions are answered but more questions form, telling us there is plenty more hiding in the shadows or mirrors for Violet and her friends. A must read!

Total package!

This series just keeps getting better and better. Just when it seems like things can't get any crazier for Violet, they do... Several times over. The characters in this series are all well developed and loveable. I was constantly on the edge of my seat and I'm always left eagerly anticipating the next one! I highly recommend this series and especially this book. It's the total package of suspense, romance and humor.

And she has done it again...

I really enjoy Ann's writing style...I always have to have a box of tissues nearby, because of hysterical laughter....Do NOT read her books to fall asleep....won't happen. Ann is such a personable person. I did have the opportunity to meet her in Deadwood a couple years ago. Unfortunately, I contracted a severe sinus infection and couldn't play with everyone most of the time. Next year PLEASE...Check out the Jack Rabbit Junction series too...

Another Fright in Deadwood!

Boots is back at it! The regular cast of characters is back and it was a little confusing at the beginning remembering which ghost was which but after a while, you remember all of the living and non-living characters. It's nice to have the crossover from the Jackrabbit Junction series. "Boots" is coming into her own as a Scharfrichter and the action is definitely heating up in this installment of the Deadwood series. It is sometimes creepy and a little scary but overall an engrossing read.

I love the humor

I wait on pins and needles for each of Ann Charles books! I love the humor, the suspense, the romance and the paranormal in this series! I never get bored trying to figure out what kind of trouble Violet is going to get into this time around and how in the heck she is going to get out of the wild and frightening situations! I highly recommend this book and the complete series. I have no trouble letting all my friends and family know that Ann is one of my favorite authors and to read all of her different series! Well done, Ann, can't wait for the next one!

On the edge of my seat

I really love these books and it surprises me I had a hard time getting into her other series but ended up accidentally ordering the Audio book add on when I purchased the first Deadwood book and decided to listen to it at the gym and I can say it well they have become my workout and housework companion and now I can't wait for the next one ....

Another great story

Violet just has a way with getting into trouble. She also has a lot of family and friends to back her up. Still learning what her true calling is it's good that her aunt is there to teach her. Can't wait to see what happens next.

So good it could be read as a stand alone

I have loved all of the books by Ann Charles because of their humor! But Ann's story telling ability is getting better and better. As her characters grow as a result of what happens to them in the previous books, I get more attached to them and concerned about them. As they go farther out on the limb of the imagination, they seem more and more real to me. This was the best book yet. It could be read as a stand alone, but the reader would probably enjoy starting at the beginning of the series.

For those who love a scary book, this is great.

Well written book and a great kick-ass lady and mom hero. However, prepare yourself for some gruesome scenes and ghosts that might keep you up at night. A real chiller..

A Fright in Deadwood

A Wild Fright in Deadwood I love the characters. Each and every one. I have come to know them. I was happy that she finally levelled with Doc about her feelings. I think the language has become too crass throwing around "f" bombs so casually. The story lines, for me, has become meaner and much too "dark" for my taste.

WILD ROMP in DEADWOOD!

May I simply state that Anne Charles is a great writer! Her stories are filled to the brim with humor, Romance, mystery and best of all the paranormal, my personal favorite. If you have not read any of her books, start with Nearly Departed In Deadwood, book 1 of her amazing series. Her characters are fantastic, the mysteries filled with unexpected twists and turns. The romance, just steamy enough and the paranormal delightfully hair raising! So hop on board the exciting Deadwood mystery ride and hang on tight, it's going to be an unforgettable bumpy ride!

Hang on folks! Another wild ride in Deadwood!

This was the best in the series yet! As always, Ann's stories are packed with humor, suspense, unexpected twists and turns and a little romance too! So much happens in this installment of the Deadwood series. There are quite a few mysteries revealed while new plot twists have been enticingly dangled just out of the readers grasp. I can hardly wait for Deadwood #8!"

Amazing as usual

This is the best book yet! I laughed throughout, but there was one part that I won't spoil that had me in stitches for 10 minutes. The snorting, tears rolling down my face tears kind of laughter. A lot of suspense, action, laughs, and a nice dose of warm and fuzzy feelings. I can't recommend this book or series enough! What am I going to read now?

I love this series

I love this series. After reading this series of books, I had to visit Deadwood. That's right. I'm saying, once you start reading the series, its like you are right there. You stay as much into the story as Violet is doing what she does best. Getting into trouble. With kids, a handsome boyfriend, a crazy old man, a smart aunt and a cop ready to lock her up, Violet never knows which way to turn. This series is a must read!

She hit a homer with this one.

. I think this one is my favorite. Do I say that every time? But this book is chock full of humor, sarcasm, spooky excitement, steamy moments and old friends. I wish the above would have the word, CLEVER to choose, because the author is incredibly clever. And cohesive. And well rounded. I just adore this author.

What a DeFRIGHTFUL read!

What a DeFrightful read! I can never put down one of Ann Charles books when I start one and this one is no exception! Funny and exciting story. Leave you wanting more! I love the adventures of Violet and her crazy friends. Makes me wish they would make a movie so I get a good look at the handsome Doc! Buy the Deadwood series books from Ann Charles, you will be glad you did!![ [ASIN:B01L2UJSVI A Wild Fright in Deadwood (Deadwood Humorous Mystery Book 7)]]

She did it again!

Another fantastic tale of our beloved Violet. Ann Charles puts so much wonderful character development into her books, you feel like you're friends with the characters in her books. As usual, there were some steamy moments, some spooky happenings, and a lot of laughs. If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend picking these books up!

Entertaining

I really enjoy this series. The characters are likable and relatable. This book seemed a little padded and drawn out to me. This made it a little slow in spots. She brings in various threads but doesn’t resolve them because they’ll be continued in the next book.

So funny

Ann Charles is always good for a laugh. Violet and Doc are one of my favorite book couples. Their easy way together and Doc's patient smoldering way with Violet make them a fun couple to read. I was totally laughing out loud at the Clint Eastwood episode. I can't say more without spoilers, but you should read it and find out. I also have to say that I love the progress between Violet and Doc on the romantic front. This was totally a spooky fun read!

Love! Love! Love! Don't miss this series!

Oh my! I couldn't put my kindle down! So much going on in this book--if you're an Ann Charles fan you will be luciously satisfied with plot twists, turns, conclusions to certain mysteries that have kept you clinging to the edge of your seat and the beginnings of more. Lots of laughter and hijinks with your favorite characters and a ton of character development. This entire series is fantastic!

Loved this book

What a joy to meet up with this cast of goof balls. This book was more about opening doors and letting sports free. Not that they should be though. There is almost some commitment in this book, almost a truce, OK maybe not between Violet and Cooper. Detective Hawke is still a butt. I wonder is he a demon? Good book, fun series.

Ack, I'm all caught up.

Violet Parker is a very busy realtor, single mom and executioner! With her newly formed team she's working hard to balance parenthood with her new duties of ghost hunting. More bodies are piling up and Violet is getting blamed for being involved. Will she triumph over all the ghosts and goblins? Will her kids make up to Doc? Will Nat realize how Coop looks at her? Stay tuned.

Another winner!

This series is always a delight. Witty and surprising, Violet's adventures in the paranormal and her bungling in the normal never fail to entertain. The dialog between characters is laugh out loud worthy and the plot is twisty and filled with danger. This, the 7th book builds on previous plot. Reading the series in order is the only way to go. Highly recommended.

Still loving this series!

I think the title of this review pretty much says it all. Sassy blonde heroine, sexy love interest, ghouls and ghosties galore, and a war hammer! What’s not to like?

Best One Yet!!!

So I was bored one day looking for something to read and I ran up on the first book Nearly Departed in Deadwood I thought why not try it. I did and have never regretted it. Each book gets better and better. I could not concentrate on anything else until I finished it. This is the best one yet can't wait until the next one!!!

Ann Charles is wonder writer

Ann Charles is such a great writer. Her characters are spunky, funny, smart, sassy and loveable. This next book in her series takes you on another hair raising ride as Violet comes to terms with her family's "gift". Add in a few more spooks, a spoiled brat ghost, Rex the ex and her mean sister Susan and it's quite a ride. I cant wait till the next one. Write faster Ann!

Suspenseful tale that has plenty of light-hearted laughs along the way

This is a fantastic installment in the Deadwood series! Up until now, the books have turned up more questions than answers, and even though there are still plenty of questions, I felt a little more settled when I finished this one! Full of lots of humor and laugh-out-loud antics from Violet and the gang, there was still plenty of suspense and action (not to mention some romance!!) The story line just keeps plugging along and you are definitely left wanting more. I highly recommend this series, but you need to start at number 1!!

Laughing so hard it hurts

I love this book and the series it more then lives up to. Prudence is my favorite ghost in any book or movie of all time. Don't know why boots don't ask for ghostly help in taking down a ghost though or in being an executioner. But dang I can't wait for the next one

Humerus

Overall I really enjoyed the book I love all the characters especially Harvey. Love the mystery and comical aspect. The only thing I didn't like was Violet always flipping someone off or sticking her tongue out. That seemed a little too Juvenal to me. Other than that I really really liked it.

Book 7

This is the second time I have read this book and enjoyed it more than the first time. Ann Charles sure knows how to keep you reading.

Keeps going strong

Can't wait for the next in the series! Love these characters and the story keeps you wanting more!! Great book

deadwood series-dead of nite reading

have just finished all of the 7 deadwood books, and all are fantastic!! found another author i would read anything she wrote...the characters seem like i've known them all my life, and violet would be my best friend..ms charles is witty, funny and puts together a story very well...

Alive thru Deadwood

I am So in love with his series! I am on pins and needles awaiting the next book. Violet is da bomb. She is my new hero. Please, keep this series alive with the off the cuff wit and sarcastic barbs. The author's ability to make the dialogue real and not forced just adds to the humor. Not only am I waiting for the next book, I'm also looking out for the movie (hint, hint).

Enjoyed it

Thank you! I have been a little down recently and have been trying to find new books in old series' I've read. This book made me laugh and kept me interested. All while protecting me from life. It gave me a place to go away. I look forward to the next installment and miss how quickly you used to put these books out.

Valley's back

Along with her team as she fights beasts and ghosts, chases her twins, and teases her boyfriend with her sexy ways. She mouths off to the local detective all while trying to sell houses, make haunted house commercials, and stay away from her ex. Yep, these books have all this and more.

Ann Charles - Deadwood series hard to put down

The title says it all. After reading the first book I couldn't wait to read the whole series! And Ann does not disappoint. I'm just sad I'm done and waiting on the next. Fast, fun and entertaining.

Loved it

I really enjoyed this story. Having read them from the start I am seeing the characters grow. I like how she works in characters from her other series. I like the creepy stuff.... This is a work of fiction. It has a little romance, weird relationships (non sexual) odd people, scary things. I have a fun time reading Ann Charles books.

WOO-HOO! #7 in the series and they just get better!!

I just finished this book and I loved it! It's funny, sexy and a little bit spooky. Violet can't stay out of trouble, sometimes it's not even her fault! Doc is hot, Cooper is cranky, the ghosts are nasty, Harvey is, well Harvey - always has something to say (often with a bit of an "ick" factor), always funny. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series, or whatever Ann writes next! I love her other series too!

Violet Parker

confronts cops and monsters while trying to sell houses and get by as a single mother in Deadwood. I like the characters and wonder at some of the broader implications.

One of the best series ever created - Mystery, Spookiness, humor galore and characters so real they could step off the pages!

I couldn't love this series more, I am a voracious reader and this author is at the top of my must have list. The humor and the interactions between the characters is top notch, I so wish I had a friend like Harvey! Keep em coming is all I can ask.

Series keeps me coming back

Not being a female of dating age the all too frequent sexual joys and miscues aren't for me but the character development, humor and descriptions of the locale keep me coming back. The audible book versions are very well done

Ghosts and mayhem

The book is funny, romantic, and eerie. It is well written about Deadwood, South Dakota. There is a little bit of everything in Ann Charles books. Fighting, ghosts, work, family, and friends.

Can never get enough Deadwood

Violets paranormal plate is full with a side order of 'oh crap' in this edition. In between battles with ghosts, demons and a crazy one armed chick, she does manage several sexy fun moments with Doc. Jerry is still dressing her like a doll from the fifties while her ex and Hawke try to make her life even more miserable. There are more questions than answers in this book, leaving my imagination running wild until the next one.

Great series

This is one of my all time favorite series. There's always something new, different, heartwarming or funny happening. Highly entertaining. I hope the series continues for quite some time. I always look forward to a new book by Ann Charles!

Love this series

A few years ago, I picked up the first book in this series-thinking it was going to be a relaxing cozy mystery. Uh...no. If Buffy the Vampire Killer along with Morticia and Gomez grabbed a sweet cozy mystery and shook it really hard, this would be the result. Obviously, I love this series. Start at the beginning (or you won't have any idea what is going on) and hang on for the ride.

Funny

Just finished the entire Deadwood Series. Starting Jack Rabbit Junction tonight. Do not drink any liquid in a public place while reading one of these books...you'll have too many "spit takes". Ms. Charles is very funny. Her characters are well thought out, very flavorful and incredibly adorable! Perfect books for right now! Time to lighten things up. Thank you, Ms. Charles, for doing that for me. Outstanding books!

Wow, Wow, Wow!!

I just reached The End...For Now. Ann, you did it again! Left us hanging and eagerly anticipating the next book. For those of you who have yet to read this series, what are you waiting for?!?!?!?? Ann Charles never disappoints. Mystery, mayhem and humor surround Violets crazy and unpredictable adventures. You will laugh, cringe, cry and cheer Violet and the gang on to the very last word. In case you missed the intent here, YES, I recommend this book!

Violet is outrageous!

OMG! Ann did it again! Violet Parker is at the top of her game! Not going to say too much because I don't want to ruin it for anyone but this is great, fun and laugh out funny! Violet and the gang do not disappoint. Couldn't put it down until the very end, then I didn't want it to be over yet! Sit back and enjoy, you will enjoy every word! Already looking forward to the next one, can't come out soone enough!

Loved it!

I adore Violet Parker, her and loony delightful family and friends, and especially her handsome and devoted boyfriend, Doc. With assorted spooky events and a murder mystery to solve, Violet and crew get into all kinds of suspenseful and hilarious hot water. The only problem I have with the Deadwood series is that Ann Charles can't write the books any faster. Can't wait for the next book!

Another great one. Lots of shenanigans!

Shenanigans! That is what goes on in this series and especially this book between Vi and Nat as well as the other characters. Loved the new book. Great to see old characters back and getting more involved in the life of Violet. Nice twist with Coop suddenly seeing ghosts. Cannot wait to read the next book. Mentioning Terri Reid was a good inspiration that if you have not read her books, you have to try them. Too many laugh out loud moments to mention.

She is a fantastic writer her books are full of mystery and humor ...

If you have ever read any of Ann Charles books than you know why she has 5 star ratings on her books. She is a fantastic writer her books are full of mystery and humor and the characters continue in each book (well those who live to be in the next book) Please if you haven't tried one of her books yet give them a try you will be hooked like I am. I have also met her a few times and she is so down to earth and one of the nicest people u could meet and she treats her fans very well.

LOVED EVERY WORD!

This book was wonderful just like the 6 before it. Perfect mix of mystery, paranormal aand LAUGHS. Lots of laughs. Real sad this is the last one available at this time, i cant wait! I have read the series up to date ( 7 books ) so far in 2 weeks.

Wild Fright

Ann Charles hits another one out of the park. I know I'll never visit Deadwood again, without looking for Violet Parker and friends. I'm not usually a paranormal fan,but throw in mystery and love,it can make for a fun read. Ready for book number 8

Too GREAT For It's Own Good

I loved this book. I loved this series. I hated that I didn't have a next book do read. I do not like short stories of any kind. By the time the next book comes out I'm already reading a different series by a different author and am no longer into the old series. I read one to two books daily and if series are not released back to back I forget important details about the book, and that makes it less exciting. This book did not provide an ending to the series.

Love, love this series!

Not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said. I couldn't put it down, it's suspenseful, and funny. The characters seem so real. I highly recommend this book, well if you haven't read the series, I'd read all of them! Again, I can't wait for the next one! Seriously buy it, you won't be disappointed!

Another "hit" for Ann Charles

Ann Charles consistently delivers a suspenseful look into the life of the heroine. Adding to the suspense, the reader is left wondering "what next?" at the end of the novel. Here's hoping Ms. Charles doesn't keep us wondering for too long!

One of my favourite series

I started to read Ann Charles series Deadwood just by chance. When I finish a book I am disappointed because I have to wait for the next one. I also started to read her other series of stories. I enjoy how they intertwine with each other.

I love the series

This was not a cliffhanger. It left absolutely no conclusions to any of the problems that begun in the beginning of the book. I love the series, but this was a complete waste of time.

Great books

I love the deadwood serious! I'm on book 11now and don't want it to end. I hope there's more to come.

Always over too soon!

Another great one in the series and I expected nothing less! More craziness from Violet, Doc, and Coop! More mysteries! More creepiness! More of what we love from these characters! Can't wait for the next one!

Another good story.

Another of Violet Parker's ghost tales and monster mayhem stories, set in Deadwood. The format is similar to the Stephanie Plum mysteries, but much racier. I did not particularly like the open-ended way that it ended, but I will get the next one in the series when she finishes it.

Thank you, Ann Charles!!!!

Ann Charles is my favorite author. Her books are fun to read, full of adventure and the characters are fun to follow from book to book in her series. I lived in Deadwood for about 12 years and it brings back memories and she does an excellent job of keeping it authentic when it comes to the layout of Deadwood. I always look forward to her next book!!

A Wild Fright In Deadwood

Another great read in the adventures of Violet and her gang of cohorts. I love reading this series, I couldn't put this book down and I can hardly wait to see what happens next. Looking forward to the next book with anticipation.

Can't Get Enough of This Series!

I absolutely adore this series and can't get enough of it. I love everything that transpired in this series and everything that was revealed. I love these characters more than I can say and Ms. Charles continues to stun with her witty one liners, lovable characters and hair raising goose bump inducing mysteries. It will be a long wait until the next book.

Better and better

The Deadwood series keeps getting better and better. Violet Parker's moxie is amazing, I wish I was her! The mix of humor, supernatural, and romance is in a class all its own. I can't wait for the next one!

This book has all the usual characters-got to love the "Harvey-isms"

It's rare that a series will have me as excited for every new book but Ann never fails to deliver. This book has all the usual characters-got to love the "Harvey-isms"! But this one has a twist with Prudence really pulling some strings! What I love most is Ann's ability to keep my interest throughout the book. Another home run!

Mayhem prevails.

Between ghosts that need exorcising, cops who can't find a killer, filming for a ghostly reality show, an ex that's a moron, a dead executioner giving tips and bruises and an old enemy hell bent on killing her, it's surprising Violet can even get up in the mornings.

Love it, love it, love it!!

Ann Charles has such a talented way of drawing the reader into the world she created that I actually jumped in my seat when Parker heard,"OPEN THE DOOR!" Needless to say, I finished the book in one go and am dying for the next one already.

A Very Good Read

Ann Charles is the Janet Evanovich of the supernatural world and just as much fun to read. The series does have to be read in order, they are not stand alone books but worth every moment it takes to read them. I would highly recommend them to anyone curious about them.

Enjoyable

It was a fast , witty me throughly enjoyable read.

Great addition to the series!!! I loved it!

Once again Ann takes us on a wild time in the Deadwood Mystery series! All of our old friends are there to help Violet on her way to some crazy times. There was a big surprise (to me anyways) thrown in but I’m not one to spoil things so you will have to read the story and see for yourself what it is! Any whoo…If you love a great story…if you love getting lost in the antics and lives of great characters…then this book and series is definitely for you! Ann Charles, with her magical way of weaving a story, with many laugh out loud moments and seriously funny situations that had my stomach hurting from laughing so hard is definitely an author that you should be reading! I can recommend this book to friends, family and everyone without hesitation because it is amazing!

Wonderful series & each book gets read way too fast!!

I LOVE this series!! Very well written! My only complaint is that when I get the next book in this series, I cannot stop reading it & in no time at all, I've finished the book & have to wait (what seems like forever...maybe I should read slower) for the next one to come out.

Fantastic work

This book is a continuation of the amazing Deadwood series by author Ann Charles. From the very first page you are transported to Deadwood and placed right into the purple boots of the main character, Violet Parker. Violet has a propensity for trouble, both from the living and the dead. Her antics will have you balancing on the edge of your seat with suspense, while also falling out of it with laughter.

Wit, Romance, & Mystery All Wrapped up in another amazing book

Ann has done it again with another amazing glimpse into the interesting life of Violet Parker. Ann's stories make you feel like you are hanging out with old friends catching up while at the same time holding your breath waiting to hear what happens next. I love the characters and every twist and turn! You won't regret reading any of Ann's books!

Book 7 did not disappoint!!!!

This is my favorite book series by far!!! Once I start I can't stop, it's a fast pace, laugh out loud mystery that keeps you on your toes, or shall I say boots. I can't wait for more!!!

Love it bring it on

Yet again another book that you can't put down I love this series

Wow, What a Ride!

Hmmm. How to describe Ann Charles, the author of the Deadwood series? Is she a Mystery writer, a Romance writer, a Humor writer, a Paranormal writer? The answer to all of these is YES. Her books are a deft mixture of all these genres, and Ms. Charles is the master juggler who keeps building the reader's interest while maintaining all these elements masterfully. "A Wild Fright in Deadwood" is the latest and, in my opinion, the best of the Deadwood series so far. If you haven't been following this series, no problem. The author does a great job of filling in the history that is needed to keep up with the action without breaking up the narrative with a bunch of back-story exposition (but you really should start from book one to really understand all the characters' motivations, and you'll thank me later for all the enjoyment you 'll get out of the earlier books).

Ann Charles is one of my favorite mystery cozy book writers

Ann Charles is one of my favorite mystery cozy book writers. It's written with a quirky sense of humor. The characters keep you engaged wanting more when the books end. It's a funny sexy well written series and it includes crazy ghosts I highly recommend this series

Ann Charles knows how to write a book!

Absolutely wonderful. Spellbinding. Couldn't put it down. Couldn't wait for the next book in the series.

Not over yet

Violet's abilities keep expanding as well as her issues with the paranormal! I love how her relationship with Doc is developing, and his with the twins as well. Can't wait to read the next one (and hopefully find out what all the mystery is behind the visits to the rec center with Doc and the kids)!

The best yet!

I loved every bit of the latest adventure of Violet "Boots" Parker. Doc and Violet steaming up the pages while battling demons and malevolent spirits. Oh yeah, and with Violet wearing those sassy purple boots! Hot damn! I'm already looking forward to the next adventure!

Fast Read

Quirky fun read

Violet has an edge now! Ghosts be aware!

I have read all the books in this series, and am very happy with this most recent episode. It was interesting, has good character development, and Violet, the main character, has gotten an edge to her, and I like it! Good job, Ann Charles!

What fun !

I’ll be reading the rest of the series! I really enjoyed this book!

Fantastic series!!

Wow! Just wow. What a great series. I could not put these books down. I have been hooked from the start. The characters are fantastic. The humor is on point. One of my favorite series. I love old man Harvey's sayings.

Excellent Book!!

I couldn't put the book down!! I enjoyed watching the relationship between Violet and Coop change. Also the relationship with Doc and Violets children. This book was truly mysterious and funny!! If you haven't read Ann Charles yet you should and if you have read her books then you need to know that this book is awesome. I think each book gets better as she goes along and we get to know more about each of the characters.

A Wild Fright in Deadwood- heart pounding, laugh till your sides hurt adventure

I love this series! Ann Charles has done it again! Lots of humor mixed in with heart-stopping, edge of your seat suspense! One of my favorite laughs out loud moments (of which there were many!) was the exchange between Cornelius and Rex! a side of Cornelius never seen before. Can't wait for the next adventure. Thank you Ann Charles and all the gang for another great read.

Ann Charles books

I just love all of her books! I'm already looking forward to the next book. The characters are so interesting, the stories are mysterious, funny and romantic, that you never want the book to end.

I absolutely love this series

I absolutely love this series..I have all 7 books and will definitely read them again...Ms Charles is one of my favorite authors ..I look forward to each release. I would also recommend her Jackrabbit Junction series.

Not what I was expecting after having read her other Deadwood series.

The content was overpowered by the language content. I'm no prude, but it was surprising to me to see that kind of cursing and language in a humerous book. It really just didn't fit with the story line. Otherwise, it was just okay,

The fudgsicle of books - delish!

I devour these laugh out loud and well written books. Love all the authors series but Deadwood always remains a favorite. You can't go wrong with any of these and WFD had me hooked from page one throughout the whole thing. Violet sounds like my inner voice but wittier. Love her and the whole gang!

Hilarious!

One of my favorite series! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the characters! Violet and I could be best friends in real life. We have the same humor! I recommend this to anyone who loves a good mystery but an even bigger laugh!

Favorite #3

I would read any book by Ann Charles.....even if she wrote the phone book!!!

used to like nearby in Rapid City

used to like nearby in Rapid City, SD and spent time in Deadwood. These were a fun and exciting read although the main character's school girl insecurities were annoying.

She's Done It Again!

Ann Charles has done it again! This series of books has been hilariously entertaining, and this latest addition is as funny as the rest. I love all the characters, and the dialogue makes me laugh out loud.

Enjoy this series.

I have enjoyed reading this series. But the stories seem to end too soon. I want to find out what happens next, but then the story ends. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

I thoroughly enjoy Ann Charles writing period

I thoroughly enjoy Ann Charles writing period. This latest installment in the Deadwood series does not disappoint. The characters are so colorful and enjoyable. I love that I laugh out loud while reading. I highly recommend this book and any others written by Ann Charles. The Jackrabbit Junction series and her Dig site series are great too. I hope this review is helpful. Happy reading!!

Love this series!

It can get quite scary in Deadwood. But the laugh outloud humor is the best. Violet had the greatest lines. I glad Ray was out of the office this time (hate him). And poor Coop.

Better and scarier.

Excellent blend of humor and paranormal. Books are getting better and better. Thus my five stars. Can’t wait to read the next installment.

I love these books!

How much longer until the next book comes out? I love this series so much. It makes me laugh and is a great escape from the real world. I hope Ann Charles has plenty more adventures planned for Violet!

Ann Charles has done it again.

Each of Ann's books just gets a little better. This is the longest Deadwood book yet. Some new characters introduced & some old ones are back. Exciting from the start all the way to the end. Keep it coming Ann.

I love this series and just wish that the author would ...

I love this series and just wish that the author would write faster as I hate to wait between books. However, as soon as one is out I gobble it up and then I am left waiting.....

Violet strikes again

I liked this book. The one thing I didn't like was the language. I don't understand why people think they have to put bad language in a book to make it a best seller.

Ann Charles does it again!! :)

My favorite author does it again!! Phenomenal series!! Wild, spooky, laugh out loud, and smackin' your head characters will keep you begging for more!!

Deadwood is alive

The latest Deadwood mystery is everything I could ask for. Violet Parker is up to her neck in troubling ghosts once again in an always humorous story. I never need to read a synopsis of the story, if Ann Charles wrote it, I will buy it!

Excellent as always

Ann Charles is a very accomplished author. Her books pare a great read with a good plot and plenty of quirky characters. Each book just makes you impatient for the next installment. She is a writer worth checking out.

Love this series!

I can hardly wait to see what Violet and the gang get into next. I need to know if Natalie and Cooper will finally take their friendship to the next level and if Cooper will continue to see dead people. Write quickly Mrs. Charles...write quickly.

This was probably my favorite book of the series

This was probably my favorite book of the series. It was so suspenseful & funny at times that I actually did laugh out loud. The author's writing took me to places in my imagination so I felt I was there. Now THIS is my idea of a fun book!

Best serieies

I love this series. It's laugh out loud funny. The author has a great sense of humor. I've read all the deadwood books, I hope she doesn't run out of story lines for this series. Her other books are also worth reading.

I love all of these books

I love all of these books. They just leave you hanging until the next book to see what happened though. I have now started the Jackrabbit Junction series by Ann Charles. So Far I like that series a lot too.

Sucker

I understand that this is a serialized arc and I was taking a BIG risk in my first read being this far along in the series, BUT I've done that with other series and have been satisfied. Not this time. Characters were superficially diverse, perhaps there's a rich previous backstory, but inclusion of usual sexy, hunky man was mundane. My main complaint is that there was no subplot with a resolution within this one story arc. Successful series operate on several arcs - series plot arc, character development arc, individual release arc. I can't comment on series' arc but the there is NO problem/solution arc in this book. Everybody just blithers along using odd, often juvenile, insults to stand in for witty repartee. I watched the % completed percentage and thought soon, soon, soon something will kick in. Never happened, but it do a nice job of suckering me in to stay until the, unresolved, end.

another great story

This is a great series..it's amusing and suspenseful...each box is like "checking in on family"..always a good read

What's next???

Another fun read about the exploits of Deadwoods favorite real estate agent and ghost killer Violet Parker. She leaves with a cliff hanger as we wait for the next axe to fall.

Another Great Boot Kicking Romp

Violet is knee deep in trouble, with Detective Hawke determined to jail her. Between Doc, Aunt Zoe, Harvey and Natalie aiding and abetting she stays one step ahead of the law but not the ghosts and monsters. A great read.

Dick's. Review

Through the imagination of the century, comes another Deadwood mystery. Filled with dripping sex and less than friendly ghosts. Makes you want to see in this girl's mind when she is sleeping. Love it.....

They just keep on getting better. When I put is down to get something ...

They just keep on getting better. When I put is down to get something done, I'm always thinking what is going to happen next. Love this series and please hurry up with #8.

there is plenty of humor and fun mixed in with the creepy stuff

In this latest book in the series, we are given more clues about who the albino guys are and what Violet's identity as "executioner" is about. Once again, there is plenty of humor and fun mixed in with the creepy stuff. I love it!

Hard to put down

I love books in a series, I don't feel so let down at the end. This was a perfect combination of spooky, sexy and funny. I have not been let down by any of her books.

Another good book in the deadwood series

I can't get enough of this series! I love the characters and the fast paced dialogue that keeps it lighthearted even with psycho killers and ghosts on the loose through the BlackHills.

Chic Lit

I'm glad to see Ann Charles is successful in her series. I should have known better, but I was expecting something humorous, fast paced with different twists, and perhaps a plot. I got to the 10% mark and realized nothing was ever going to happen that could possibly be of interest to me, wasting my time speed reading through sophomoric sexual innuendoes splattered with references to previous unexplained exploits by the scrappy heroine. Sorry fans, but the author didn't target this series for a male chauvinist pig like myself, I am however, an avid Agatha Christie fan, so give me a bit of a break.

Awesome

Awesome book. This series just gets better and better. My life has been crazy enough without imagining Violet Parkers. Loved this continuation.
