EXCELLENT Story for all ages

I love this book, I have read it to my High School Students for several years

This book was a hit with my second graders!

I absolutely adore A Sick Day for Amos McGee. The story is so comforting and reassuring, about the comfort of friendship. The illustrations are beautiful and so detailed. This book was a hit with my second graders! Every year, I read it to them. It's a perfect read aloud for modeling how good readers understand text structure. I found a great text structure lesson plan from BookPagez on Amazon Ignite this year. It provided me with page specific questions and prompts that helped me teach my students how to understand text structure when they read a book like A Sick Day for Amos McGee. It's a great book to read aloud for instruction or just for fun - I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good read aloud. And for those of you who are interested in the BookPagez lesson plan I found, you can look at it here https://www.amazon.com/Teaching-Resources-Sick-Amos-McGee/dp/B086CCD8H6/

Sweet story of Amos' bond with the Zoo animals; beautiful illustrations.

I worked at a library where I first came across this lovely book. Amos travels by bus each day to his work at the zoo, and he makes sure to visit with the beloved animals. He becomes ill and doesn't go to work. The animals are worried. The next thing you know is the animals are on the bus to go visit Amos. It is such a sweet story of the bond and care between people and animals. I'm invited to a baby shower where they request each person bring a book. I immediately decided to buy the picture book of A Sick Day for Amos McGee, and I also purchased the board book. The board book is perfect for when the baby is younger and the picture book for later.

Detailed illustrations accompany a wonderfully tender friendship story

A Sick Day for Amos McGee thrust its way into my heart in January 2011 when it won the Caldecott Medal. I had run a mock Caldecott unit with my third grade class, and this book wasn’t even on our radar enough to put on our ballots. I had some definite favorites that year, both for the Caldecott Medal and for timeless books I wanted to make sure I bought for my own children (Art & Max; City Dog, Country Frog; Ballet For Martha; Mirror Mirror; It’s a Book; Ubiquitous), and I was initially crushed when some of those favorites weren’t recognized at the ALA awards… Until I went to the bookstore that afternoon, bought A Sick Day for Amos McGee, and realized how amazing it was.

Though Philip Stead had published one book previously, A Sick Day for Amos McGee was his wife Erin’s first illustrated book… and both newbies hit the nail squarely on the head with this charming, timeless book. Amos McGee, zookeeper who will remind adults of Mr. Rogers, is one of the more endearing book characters I can think of. He wakes early each morning, greets even the items around his house and the bus driver, and is extraordinarily devoted to the animals at his zoo. He knows each one intimately, taking care to make them feel comfortable and loved. Until, one day… Amos McGee gets sick. Amos’s tenderness with his animal friends is reflected in the worry they feel about him and the actions they take to ensure that he too feels comfortable and loved. This is the kind of story that makes children and adults alike want to treat their friends and loved ones the same way Amos McGee does. And the illustrations! Erin’s pencil and woodblock prints are done with minimal, reserved color, but are full of details that render each reading of those story new and exciting. I didn’t notice the repeated inclusion of a red balloon, tiny bird, and mouse until the fourth or fifth time that I read the book! Tiny details aside, Erin’s sketches allow the sweet, caring personalities of each character to show through. Readers feel genuinely concerned about the rhino with a runny nose, depicted with constant concern or worry on his face reflecting just how sick he feels, and compassionate toward the shy penguin, drawn with his wings and toes pointed in, as if he’s trying to curl up small enough to go unnoticed. Philip and Erin Stead, thank you for this book. A story of the kindest of friends, timeless illustrations leaving you with more with every reading… It was an instant favorite with my room full of third graders, and it is now a favorite with my own children (2 and 4.5). Publishers recommend this for ages 4-8, but it can definitely be enjoyed younger and likely older too! If you If you loved A Sick Day for Amos McGee, check out Bear Has a Story To Tell, the duo’s second collaboration together. It’s every bit as charming of a friendship story with as many fun details that make it new and interesting to read each time. For that matter, I love every single book that Philip Stead has written and every book Erin Stead has illustrated!

Great book

My great nephew ( age 4) absolutely loved this book. The story and the pictures were just wonderful.

A Sweet Story for Beginning Readers

Book arrived in perfect shape. A gift for my 5-year old granddaughter, who is a beginning reader. She loved it. The interaction between Amos and his zoo animals just entranced her. Writing is clear and involving, and the illustrations are beautiful and fun. Highly recommended.

sweet story, beautiful illustrations

Our toddlers took to Amos McGee right away and love the animals in the story too. The faces of Amos and the animals are so expressive and, although they don't completely understand at their ages, the children like that the animals go to visit Amos when he's sick.

A favorite, by far, for young children! Art is lovely and story of friendship is heartwarming.

My grandchildren loved to follow the red balloon and the little mouse from page to page. They were so pleased that Mr. McGee found such wonderful friends. A perfect story for young children !!

Delightful Picture Book Worth Sharing

The book A Sick Day for Amos McGee written by Philip C. Stead and Illustrated by Erin C. Stead is a delightful picture book worth sharing. The details in the illustrations are so sweet and perfect, it is no wonder this book was a Caldecott Medal winner. The story is about a city zookeeper, Amos McGee, who wakes early every morning to make the bus at strictly 6 a.m. to go to work. Because it is inferred that Amos McGee does not have a wife at home, he spends his days at the zoo visiting his "friends", which happen to be all the animals. He consoles, entertains, and play with his friends at the zoo everyday until one day he becomes ill and cannot make it out of bed. That day then actually becomes a very special day for Amos McGee and his friends. As a teacher, I can see myself using this book as an example when doing a lesson on personification. the pictures, along with the actual text, tell a story in which animals are given human-like qualities and they interact with Amos as if they are human friends to him. The relationships are no doubt questionable. The animals at the zoo are his friends which makes this book a wonderful example of a tale of friendship, but the fantasy and personification will entertain students of all ages. I would be able to use this book at any grade, 1st-5th. The illustrations are very calming and would help younger students to follow along with the story. Also, this book could be used to teach younger children different types of animals such as elephants, tortoise, penguins, rhinoceros, and owls. Students could compare the traits of each animal to how they would be in the wild.

Book in excellent condition, thank you.

Great book

Got for my grandchildren they will love it

Tender & touching story

My 21-month old loved this book. Both the story and the illustrations have an old-timey feel, but yet the story still feel appealing to a modern audience. There are little hidden details in nearly all the pages, making it interesting for the adults doing the reading, too. We like how there are some pages that don't have text; it leads to conversation about what is happening on the page and makes the reading more interactive.

... is nothing I can add that hasn't already been better said by other reviewers

There is nothing I can add that hasn't already been better said by other reviewers. I bought this for my 2.5 year old (and myself), used, on Amazon. I buy a lot of new and used childrens books to read to my son, going mostly by the reviews I read here on Amazon. I've read many highly rated preschooler books many times. As an animal lover, and, as a person for whom at times the only love I had in this world was the love of animals I had the good fortune of knowing, this is one book I'm sure I'll remember for the rest of my life. If you are an animal lover and/or you have a little animal lover, this is a great story about compassion and what it means to be there for a friend. This is probably my own personal favorite children's book purchase, ever. My son likes it, but he's a little young to grasp the storyline (although I think he understands the message). I hope some day this story will become as special to him as it is to me.

A Treasure of a Book

This is truly one of the most beautifully written children's books and I highly and fully recommend it. My two-year old grandson loves this book and there is such a loveliness and a gentleness to it that makes it appealing for adults as well. Amos tends to the animals every single day, following the same routine, day after day, until one day, he does not show up for work because he is not feeling well. The animals take the same bus Amos takes to get to the zoo and they show up at Amos's house because they miss him. The illustrations reinforce the gentleness and loving nature of the story. This is a book that is meant to be kept on a book shelf for children of all ages - and maybe for adults of all ages as well. Please do not hesitate to add this beautiful book to any child's collection.

Great children’s book!

I love this book! It’s so sweet. And the illustrations are amazing. I buy this book for every little kid I know. As a nanny, this book never gets old, even after the fifth time reading it in a row.

Magic

This little book is just marvelous. The characters are understated. The author understands rhythm and cadence in children’s literature and the illustrations are of the best quality in the genre.

LOVE this book!

I was so excited to see they finally made this book into a board book!!! I read to my 6 month old all the time...he loves books, but he also likes to beat on them while I'm reading, so board books are a must. This story is just the cutest and the board book is actually quite large (in between normal and lap edition sized).

lovely book

lovely book about friendship going both ways between a zookeeper and his animal friends. I love it.

Love, Love this Book!! So glad I found this book!

I found this book in a list of Best Books for Toddlers and checked it out at the library. It has become all of our favorite, and I just purchased a copy of the book for our own collection. It is also the first time my 2 1/2 year old daughter has said someone's first and last name so I thought that was really cute. The book illustrations and story are sweet and beautiful and this really makes it in our top favorite books (and we read a lot of children books). If you like this book, you might also try out The Snail and tne whale, which is also a wonderful book to read aloud and has a sweet story as well. A Sick Day for Amos is a treasured story I enjoy reading and my kids enjoy hearing over and over.

Beautifully illustrated, simply written, sweet concept

My two and a half year old has memorized this book. It is elegantly and deftly illustrated with lots of sweet little nuances and surprises on each page to explore with your kids (like little mice, random balloons, and cute toes peeking out of the blanket). The narrative has very little dramatic escalation- no missing mommies, no urgent problem to solve- just a gentle story about an old zoo keeper who takes a sick day so his animal friends come for a visit at his house instead. The lack of dramatic tension and snuggly ending with them all heading to bed, makes this an ideal bedtime story... It is in the coveted spot of last before lights out on our list of "must reads" before bed time each night.

Gorgeous illustrations Great story!

Phillip and Erin Stead are fantastic as author and illustrator You can't miss with their books!

Gorgeous artwork! An instant classic.

This is a beautiful book! The artwork is captivating and the story is perfect for young children. I want to review this book early because it's sure to be a classic :) "A Sick Day for Amos McGee" follows a Amos McGee, a friendly zookeeper through a typical day when he visits many of his animal friends, then his atypical sick day when his animal friends wonder where he is and their adventure that ensues. The animals are adorable and you can't help but love friendly, old Amos. The artwork is truly brilliant and kids will love searching for "easter eggs" on each page, including a red balloon and small mouse and bird that follow the animals and Amos through their adventures. A beautiful, fun and heartwarming book. You and your kids will both love it and read it at bedtime for years :)

Great story!

Very sweet story about carrying and friendship. My little one loves it.

A Good Buy

Fun book for first and second graders. It takes them on a real life journey in a fictional way. This book was resourceful in one of my lesson plans.

A must have!

This might be the most adorable children's book ever written. There aren't a ton of words to it, so you can make it a fast story if you want to get your kid the heck to sleep. Or you can make up a lot of your own story to the pictures as you go along if you want to inspire that youngster's imagination. A definite must-have for the book shelf (or the floor... or the sink... it all depends on the toddler's mood)!

TERRIFIC STORY!

I used this book for a Children's Sermon at church one Sunday. I connected it with the lesson from the Bible- The Golden Rule. Well, on the Sunday I presented this Children's Sermon, there were no children. Instead, I had two gentleman (young at heart) come up for the message- one is 80+ and the other was 60+. It was fun- and the story really fit their lives too. My 2 year old son also enjoys this story- he loves the illustrations and finds all sorts of things to admire on each page. The only thing I would say is for a 2 year old- I keep the book safely put away, so that the little man cannot tear the pages. Lovely book- a classic in the making!

Lovely story

Sweet, kind, and wonderful little story

Charming Book with Sweet Story

First, I love the illustrations. Very soft colors and a fun gentle style. The story is also very sweet. A kind old man works at the zoo and spends each day visiting his animal friends (sitting with the shy penguin, racing the tortoise, reading to owl who is scared of the dark). When he gets sick, his animal friends come to take care of him. It is so simple, but it is so beautiful. I checked it out from the library for my daughter a year ago and I just had to buy it for her. One of my all time favorite books. Very quick, simple read with only a few words per page. In my top 10 children's books.

older character retains a child-like quality of bonhomie and easy camaraderie

My daughter read A Sick Day for Amos McGee aloud to me before she went to sleep and it was a treat for both of us. I love stories for children where older characters retain a child-like quality of bonhomie and easy camaraderie. Amos has both which makes him irresistible to me. The structure of this book is really comforting too, a there and back again plot where the protagonist goes on a journey wherein the reader is introduced to everyone worth knowing and then they are separated but not for long because as one person can bring joy to others throughout their day, so too can a group of friends unite to bring one special person comfort and pleasure together! This is that sort of book.

Lovely book with great illustrations

We were looking for a book with a storyline around empathy and sharing kindness with others. This book is exactly that. It's a very sweet story of a zookeep and his animal friends. The illustration are lovely and very unique from other children's books we have read. Would highly recommend.

New favorite!

Bought this in hopes of discovering a new favorite for my daughter.... it wasn’t a disappointment! Definitely our new favorite! Such a sweet story!

Sweet story

who doesn't like a story about animals helping humans when they are in trouble? Pictures are very cute, and the idea of humans being kind to animals, and being repaid for that kindness is very sweet. Children will love the story.

Amos McGee is lovable

I just adore this book. It's really a book about friendship, thoughtfulness, and caring. Amos McGee is the zookeeper who is very punctual and spends time with the animals. Amos finds things to do with his animal friends that make them feel good about themselves. One day, Amos gets sick and his animal friends come to his house to care for him while he's ill. They show him the same consideration and affection that he has shown to them.

Classic book to have in your child’s library

Lovely story about friendship. Illustrations are award winning :-)

Love this book!

This is one of the sweetest children's books ever. I highly recommend it.

Good re-readability

This is one of our daughter's favorite books now (age 1.5 yrs). She liked the pictures and story initially. As we've read the book more, she is enjoying pointing out some of the commonly recurring objects & characters hidden throughout the illustrations. I hope this soft cover survives the many uses we're getting from it!

Perfect

Sent quickly and excellent condition

Love and Friendship

Cute book about animals, friendship, and caring about the ones you love. We took this book out at the library and my daughter loved the pictures. We are gifting it to my daughter for Christmas now to be part of her book collection.

Should be standard reading starting around 3-4 years old.

Can't believe only 203 reviews....have to vote for it as a must read. Got this one when by daughter was 4yo. She loves it so much. Teaches empathy, caring, and friendship. Words are great but pictures tell their own story too. It teaches kids that everyone/anyone -- somebody as unassuming (and perhaps alone from a human point of view) as Amos can have powerful, fascinating inner lives. This book is a treasure.

Great for children

I saw this book in one of my early education classes at school and fell in love with the art style so I bought it right there in class! It is such a sweet story and now every time I could into a school I bring this with me! The art is beautiful and colorful and I love looking at the pages. This is also a great story to talk to children during flu season.

One of my 4-year old's favorite books

Nice illustrations and engaging story.

Sweetest story ever

Such a great book for my 4 year old son. Absolutely love the message

Lovely Story about Friendship

This is a great story, for day or for bedtime! It's a lovely story about friendship. Amos McGee works at the zoo, and he always makes time for his friends (elephant, owl, penguin, tortoise, rhinoceros). However, one day he catches a cold/flu and he cannot make it to work. So his friends decide to visit him! Such a sweet story with wonderful illustrations. This one is a favorite in our book shelf!

A Sweet Story About Friendship and Animals

A Sick Day for Amos McGee is a very sweet book about a friendship between a zookeeper named Amos and the animals he cares for. When Amos gets sick, his friends elephant, tortoise, penguin, rhinocerous and owl come to his house to comfort and care for him. Erin McGee's lovely, layered illustrations convincingly depict the friendship between Amos and the zoo animals. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to sharing it with my children. As a child, I would have loved imaging befriending the animals in this story. As a parent, I hope my children are surrounded by such thoughtful friends. [...]

Sweet story

My girls, who are almost 3.5 and 5 LOVE this book, and I do too! The illustrations are lovely and serene. The story is a gentle one of friendship and returning kindnesses. It makes a very nice bedtime story. This is our go-to birthday present these days. To give you an idea of how wonderful this book is, I have been ordering from amazon.com since the late '90s. I have ordered tons of stuff, but I have never been compelled to submit a review until now.

a sweet and gentle story...

sweet story about a man who works in the zoo...and playing with and taking care of all the animals. one day he is sick with a cold and can't go to work...so the animals come to his home and play and take care of him. love this book and so does my three year old grandson. the illustrations are beautifully conceived. a gentle story about friendship and caring. well done.

Stead is the best!

I have several P.C. Stead story books in my home. I never get tired of reading them to my grandchildren. Amazon is great to allow a look through on line so seal the deal. Great author accompanied by a great artist make a beautiful team. The stories have lessons which is one of the reasons I seek these books. The children enjoy our reading time. Thank you for the creations and the journeys.

One of the children’s books you don’t get tired of! I swear I saw new details in the illustrations even after reading this 30 times. It is just a sweet, fun, and lovely book.

aside from the great story. We read it almost every night

The art work in this book is worth it, aside from the great story. We read it almost every night. I will continue to look for more books with the same illustrator; some of the best art work I've ever seen.

good book

Love the drawings

Definitely a winner!

The is a delightful book and I am looking forward to reading it to all 800 students in my school library. Each year I introduce the newest Caldecott winner along with the honored books and medal recipients from past years. The friendship between Amos and the zoo animals is believable and seeing the animals on the bus is adorable. Pre-school children will love it as will all elementary students. It will make a perfect bedtime book and a great gift for newborns and their families.

... and she is my go-to person to ask about good childrens books

My daughter is a Librarian and she is my go-to person to ask about good childrens books. This was no exception. It is a favorite of my 21 month old granddaughter. It teachs the importance of friendship and kindness and doing for others.

Perfect - Really!

We checked this book out at the library, and I got on Amazon to purchase it the same day. This is one of those incredibly rare picture books that is absolutely perfect in every way. It has a simple, heartwarming story that appeals to all ages - the text is flawlessly written and edited. The illustrations? Perfectly sublime. One of our favorite books to read already, I'm sure that the whole family will enjoy this book for the rest of our lives.

Wonderful graphics and story line to read to a young audience...

This book is beautiful perfection. I cannot say enough good things about the story and illustrations, I cannot recommend it enough. It's sweet, it's funny, it's darling. I never get tired of reading it and looking at it. Every child should read this book, because every child will love it.

Beautiful book!

The pictures are gorgeous and there's always a little bird or mouse or ballon to discover even after re-reading dozens of times. Our 18mo's favorite bedtime book.

Beautiful book!

Such a wonderful book about love, friendship and caring for others. Love it!

This is good stuff

I liked it, kids like, grand kids like it. The illustrations are not overwhelming and work to support the story and not beat the story to death. Amos is the zoo caretaker who takes care of all the animals and one day when Amos is sick and can't come to work all his animal friends go to visit him. It's nice!

My Favourite Children's Book of All Time

Hello, This is a wonderful story of love and friendship, a celebration in fact. The illustrations are heartbreakingly beautiful and the love of Amos for his animals and that love returned is fantastic. I have developed an interest in children's picture story books during my life and this one is my favourite over the course of my 62 years of loving reading. Cannot recommend highly enough.

A classic

This is probably the fourth or fifth time I have purchased this book as a gift for a child. This book will really speak to the heart of a very young child. Parents of children for whom I have purchased this have said their children request this over and over at bedtime.

Great for toddlers

Like "Albert the Fix-it Man," "A Sick Day for Amos McGee" tells the story of a man who takes time out of his day to brighten his friends' lives, and sees big return on his investment when he gets ill. The illustrations are gorgeous, and my two kids both love this vehicle for talking about silly animals, being sick, riding the bus, daily routine, and more.

What a sweet story and the illustrations are beautiful

One of my go-to gifts. What a sweet story and the illustrations are beautiful. Considering getting a second one just to frame the illustrations.

A lovely story with beautiful illustrations

Such a simple tale of kindness repaid. I gave it to my sister (who is over 60!)

Friendship

Great message about friendship and beautifully illustrated. Have given several as gifts.

Cute book!

Such a cute book! I use it in my 3rd grade classroom to teach empathy. The kids enjoy the story and the pictures.

Lovely story - won’t be disappointed.

Love love love this story and the illustrations. Bought this for my nephew as a present and he adores it. You won’t be disappointed. Lovely story!!!

Beautiful and charming

I adore this book, probably even more than my 2 1/2 year old (who also loves it). The story is charming, the pictures are beautifully done, and it carries a nice message about friendship.

Cute Story with Nice Illustrations!

This book is adorable! The illustrations are nicely done - not too much color that will overstimulate a child. The story is very sweet. My daughter likes looking for the red balloon on each page. It teaches children about kindness, caring and selflessness.

Great children's book

Such a sweet book!

😍

LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!

A sweet story about taking care of your friends

Amos is an attentive friend. He gets sick and his friends all come to take care of him. The pictures are sweet and delightfully drawn. It made a lovely Valentines gift for my five year old. There are many possibilities to talk about friendship with children if you are inclined to use this book for a classroom project.

Important lesson in kindness for children.

Teaches children the importance of being friendly and kind. Kindness is a boomerang that comes back. Ideal for ages 2 and up.

Great book

Good book . Retracting my negitive comment about slow shipping as seller was very tesponsive

Great gift

This is one of the best children’s books ever! Wonderful story and charming illustrations.

Excellent message

I read this book while on vacation. I have been an elementary teacher for 34 years and this book has a quality message for everyone. The pictures are well drawn and in a calm colors and the page by page story is heartwarming and sincere. This message is somewhat humorous and predictable which endears it to children and adults. This will reinforce empathy betweeen children and animals.

Clever and Engaging

This is one of my favorite children's books. Not only is the story heartwarming with a beautiful message but the illustrations are so clever and engaging. I bought it for my granddaughter but would like a copy for myself.

So Glad This Is In Our Library

We absolutely love this book! The beautiful pictures and story are just heartwarming. Our daughter (2years), picks this story often for bedtime reading, and a lot of times on back-to-back nights. That's how I know when she really likes a book and I think I enjoy this one as much as she does :-)

We <3 Amos & friends. Great story!

Favorite children's book of all time <3 There is a great message of kindness in this book for all of it's readers. The illustrations are timeless and captivating. As a parent and through my kid's eyes I can appreciate why this book has won it's accolades. It's a great story. You'll love it!

Great book

My granddaughter loved to listen to the CD reading this book

A must for every home library

Erin Stead's wood block illustrations in this book are perfect. I think every home should own all the Caldecott Award winning books but this one is simply art. The illustrations and text work seamlessly together. Don't buy this one as an ebook! It would do it an injustice! This one must be owned hardbound.

Granddaughter loves having this book read to her

My wife wanted to get this book for our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. We have lost count of how many times we have read it to her. The illustrations are wonderful which draws her into the story. The story line is simple enough for her to comprehend what is going on. We highly recommend this book for parents or grandparents looking for books for younger children

Fantastic book!

This is a wonderful, charming story with gorgeous, masterful illustrations. It's no wonder it was a Caldecott Medal award winning book! We love, love, love this book in our house!

Sweet book, but didn't connect with us

There is an overall sweetness to this book and I thought it would be good for my 4yo, who really enjoys finding the details in illustrations. She LOVED the book, "What do you do with an idea", which has a similar illustration style. Despite repeated readings of "A Sick Day for Amos McGee" and calling her attention to what I thought were sweet details in this book, she just never latched onto it. I quickly became bored with the story and it ended up on the bookshelf indefinitely.

Wonderful nighttime reader

Illustrations are amazing and it goes with such a sweet story. My family loves reading it.

A Book deserving its reward

A Sick Day for Amos McGee is an elegant tale that will move both you and your child. This is a story where the the simplicity of the text allows the pictures to relay events that that are better experienced than articulated in long prose. Though I am sorry Amos McGee had to have a sick day, it was worth the book that has resulted!

This is her favorite book! She loves animals and the zoo

I have a 3yo, This is her favorite book! She loves animals and the zoo.

We purchased this book after seeing a great review in the NY Times. It is a heart warming story with wonderful artwork throughout. It is one of my son's (18 months) favorite stories at bed time. I would recommend this to anyone with a child who loves to be read to. This is a must have for your home library.

Good one

One of our favorites. My 2 and 5 YO’s really enjoy this story.

Found this book with a friend at the bookstore. We both wanted the book but the store only had one copy. My friend let me buy it that day so the next day I ordered it for him and his kids. My son and I really enjoy this one. It's a sweet book

Beautiful Illustrations and a very cute story!!

I bought this book for my soon to be 2 year old toddler. He loves it and always asks to read AMOS MCGEE! The illustrations are beautiful and the story line itself is very cute. We love Amos and his friends at the zoo! A must for your child's library. This book will be a classic.

The incomparable value of friendship

This is a delightful book about friendship, love, and compassion for one another. A zookeeper with a loving and established routine who meets individual animal needs on a daily basis suddenly goes missing. When the animals discover he is ill, they decide to band together and give him a dose of his own thoughtful medicine.

Simple yet brilliant story

Lovely story about being kind and the strength of friendship and it's beautifully illustrated.

This is great!

The illustrations in this book are wonderful, but it seemed like sort of a rip off of Sam Who Never Forgets, an all time favorite from the early mists of time. I would recommend that book over this one.

Five Stars

This is a great story for small children to realize friends come in all shapes and sizes.

A Sick Day for Amos McGee

What a lovely, gentle true story. How can you not believe it would be anything but real people and real friends caring for each other. You could never read it without feeling so much better, even when you don't feel sick.

Decent story. Amazing pictures. I would recommend for ages 3 to 5.

A Sick Day for Amos McGee

I do love this book, but my son just isn't in to it yet. I read it to him periodically. May be a better book for an older toddler (4+) and early schoolers.

Two thumbs up from this elementary teacher and mommy.

LOVED The BOOK

I would have given this a 5 start BUT the jacket cover was creased in the shipping process. I had all the guest sign the inside of the book with messages to the soon-to-be baby. The shower theme was "elephants" and this was perfect and served a dual purpose!
