Lovely romance with a solid story

Tanya is a very interesting, attractive and successful woman with a tiny little flaw: she is quite rude to others without meaning it. Sophie is entirely the opposite: a girl who believes kindness is a must. They have an unfortunate first encounter that leaves Sophie confused by Tanya's behavior. As they keep on running into each other, though, Sophie gets to know Tanya and the immediate attraction she felt towards her (in spite of her manners), starts to grow. We know Tanya from the previous installment (This London Love), and we understand she has got some issues, so I was thrilled to see how she gives her self permission to be who she really is, and believe me, you'll love this character. She has got a past and a complicated one. We see her fight her demons in this book, a process which is far more interesting than we could have imagined. Sophie has got her very own battles, too, so: what are this women gonna do to get over their issues and embrace love? I'm a sucker for Clare's books, as they make me laugh, think and move me to tears: all in one!! You don't need to read the other two books in the series (like another customer said), so if this is the first one you want to read, be my guest!! It will make you love Clare just like I do :) A girl called London will give you a good reason to smile ;)

Another Hit Romance

This book is book three in Lydon's London Romance series, but it could be read as a stand-alone. I really enjoy Lydon's work and I am at a point where I confidently purchase her books as they come out because I know I won't be disappointed. This book is about the unlikely pairing of two women who under normal circumstances would not consider the other as girlfriend material. Tanya is a high-power lawyer with a cute bossy streak and Sophie is growing her dog walking business while she figures out what she really wants out of life. Neither one of these women has been very successful when it comes to long-term relationships which is what drives this romance. They each need to learn how to reconcile their painful pasts in order to make room for a possible happy future as a couple. The only reason that this novel didn't get five stars from me is because Tanya was in "This London Love" and she played "the villain". It was hard for me to get past that, but Lydon does a very good job providing Tanya with a vivid backstory which helps make her more sympathetic. Lydon uses a lot of beautiful imagery in this novel which highlights her growth as an author. Each of her novels gets better and better. With lines like this: "She flicked her eyes to Sophie and their gaze met, held in place like a sudden shard of a new reality, a moment in time." I couldn't help but be captivated by the chemistry between Tanya and Sophie. The interesting thing about their relationship is that it can be just as in sync as it can be out of sync. This is a nice addition to the London Romance series and definitely worth the read.

Such a fun time

This story was very entertaining and it kept my attention. I am not a young thing however probably have read a minimum of 1000+ lesbian novels so always enjoy a story that a bit different with no sleeping, formatting, etc errors. That is sometimes difficult to find these days. This isn't a heavy story however the characters are multi-dimensional and if the reader just relaxes and enjoys the novel from across the big sea, she will have a nice evening with this book. I did. Sweet London story

I really enjoyed this book for many reasons one of them being the setting of London which I'm really looking forward to going back to for a visit. The story itself is quite good as well. It's understandable that Tanya would be somewhat cool and aloof considering the way she grew up but that someone as open and adorable as Sophie (London) would be able to crack the cold exterior. Of course sometimes you wish you could knock Tanya's head against a wall when she's being obstinate but that's where the compassion for her upbringing comes in. Overall an entertaining and enjoyable book. I love Clare's books and I wasn't disappointed with this one!

A great read if you are looking for something light but ...

A great read if you are looking for something light but engaging and contemporary. As always, Clare Lydon writes characters that are funny but also have depth and growth. This is kind of a thawing the ice queen story. If you've read the previous books in the London series, you'll recognize Tanya from This London Love - and she wasn't a favorite character. I love when authors give side characters their own story and we get to see the "whys" of their flaws and witness their growth into a lovable character. That said, this novel stands on its own just fine (you don't need to have read the earlier books in the series). I appreciate that our main characters feel more like regular people than many other lesfic characters. No crazy jobs or wealth. Overall, I definitely recommend A Girl Called London. Enjoy!

Nice

I enjoyed reading this love story. Tanya was very different and nicer than she was in the previous story. Tanya and Sophie were so much in love and great together. Both had baggage from the past and worked through it. The story is well written with great love scenes. Very nice ending.

This was a great addition to her writting

This was a great addition to her writting. A funny story with a lot of heart. I had not read the other related books and never felt lost so this does work as a standalone if needed. However, I did go out and buy the other books because this one was so terrific. So if you can go ahead and buy them all, but if you can't trust me you will enjoy this sweet and funny story.

Loved it!

I loved this book just like I loved the other two books in this series! Tanya's character was definitely redeem from the previous novel with Meg and Kate. Sophie's character was definitely very endearing! The supporting cast was equally charming! All in all, a very good book!

A great summer read

I've read Clare's work before and this latest book doesn't disappoint. A great story - Tanya and Sophie make a great couple and their romance is uplifting despite the obstacles. Tanya's mother is a piece of work! Clare's writing just gets better with every book, I can't recommend this romance enough!

Again a great read!

I really enjoyed reading this one and I loved that characters from previous books show up. Again there was humor and the romance was great. I’m not ready to let the London girls go so I’m glad that I’ve one more to go. This series is definitely worth reading.

Awesome Book

Once again and unsurprisingly Clare Lydon has written a wonderful book with characters that pop to life on the pages as they overcome personal challenges.

Really liked it

I really enjoyed this story and the way these two main characters were drawn to each other, opened up to each other and subsequently healed each other. Lydon has a talent for creating characters you can't help but get attached to, and I love her humor as well. I've become a big fan.

Slow burn romance with lovable dogs

This is a bit more of a slow burn compared to some of Clare Lydon's other books. I liked the characters, and especially enjoyed seeing the other side of a character from an earlier book who came across as a bit of a jerk. I like a good redemption story. I'm excited that the author is writing another book in this series as I like revisiting the other characters to see where they are at.

Unstoppable

From the beginning to the end, unbelievable..... I kept sneaking off to read even in half pages ..... fantastic, real but dreamy, in my top few favorites.... can't wait for the next adventure

Enjoyable

I quite enjoyed this story but was disappointed by an error in continuity from the previous book. If are going to write a series please remember what has happened in previous books and ensure it is carried on in the next. Apart from that issue, the characters were likable and the story, though brief, was appealing.

I loved book.

I really enjoyed A Girl called London. The book is very easy to relate to. Life coming at you with work, relationship and family issues. I like the message of letting people/friends help you when you need it.

Must Read

Another great London Romance. The slow burn had you on the edge of your seat. I'm looking forward to the next book and hoping it's about Rachel and Alice.

A fine read!

Lots packed into this book , joy and sorrow , old friends and new, plus forging ahead in life accompanied by loving dogs who heal grief and sadness.

Great series!

Claire has a way with humor and deep character developments which makes it very easy to dive in to her stories.

Another Gem

Another gem by Clare Lydon in the London Series.

Great book!!

Always great books by the writer. This one did not disappoint either

Five Stars

another great book

Sexy, witty & fun! A great romance!!!

You can find all of my reviews at The Romantic Reader Blog. 100% dedicated to reviews of lesbian romance novels. "You had me at hello", right, that's what Dorothy says to Jerry in Jerry Macguire. This is what happened to me with this book, A Girl Called London. From the very first chapter, I was hooked, entranced really, by a great dynamic romance. We all know how much I love these. This book is a true romance, there are no other moving pieces to distract or further the plot. This my friends is a great book, with fantastic dialogue, and superb characters that are sexy and fun and filled with...yeah you guessed it ROMANCE! Tanya Grant is a corporate lawyer who is a bit reluctant to put herself out there again. After her one and only relationship crashed and burned, Tanya has focused on work and not much else. At the insistence of her ill-grandmother, Tanya takes the leap and begins the search of purchasing a flat in London. A chance meeting in an elevator introduces the reluctant, self-reliant lawyer to a gorgeous tenant name Sophie. Sophie is a knockout, the only problem Tanya makes a complete ass out of herself and will have an uphill climb to impress her new neighbor. Sophie London has had it up to here with rude, ill-mannered Londoners. Her philosophy is it doesn't cost anything to have good manners. When she stops to help a gorgeous brunette who fell exiting the Tube blows her off, she a bit pissed. When the same woman barrels into her in her elevator knocking her back, she is downright angry. The only problem is she is going to run into Tanya all the time now, once she discovers they live in the same building. A chance encounter throws these two opposites into each other's path, time and time again. Every time the encounter softens and they feel that pull of attraction getting stronger. A slow burn romance, I love it! Throw in adorable characters, I dig it. Make the dialogue real and fantastic, you will have me forever. You couldn't have taken this one away from me if you tried. I adored everything about this book, I live for these type of pure romance novels. Sexy, witty and fun! A wonderful read!!!

Worth a listen

Another sweet rom-com from Clare Lydon with the two mains who you are laughing at/with and rooting for from the get-go. Both women are relatable with their insecurities and a bit of additional baggage they need to work through both separately and together to reach their Happily Ever After. (Though I must admit it took me part of the book to realize Tanya was the same Tanya from This London Love since she was so remarkably different in this book, though of course I enjoyed her personality and complexity much more this time round). A great round of supporting characters with a few family members you just want to slap upside the head lol. It was my first time listening to Lucy Price-Lewis narrate but I truly hope it's not my last, she did a great job.

Buy it!

I just finished the audio book and I could go on and on about character but here's all you need to know about this book. Buy it. I listened to it over a week period in my car and I realized when I was done that I had a smile on my face the entire time I was listening. It was just one of those books that gives you such a good feeling about the possibilities of love that you can't help but smile. I've already bought the other two in the series. It is well written, thoughtful, maybe a little naughty and yes, sometimes, I wanted to slap one of the main characters. I love that. When I don't care about the characters in a book then I know that the book was not worth my time. When I found myself cursing or cheering the characters, then it was time and money well spent. Cheers!

This is a hilariously funny book with beautiful romantic moments

Clare Lydon has once again succeeded in making me smile, feel soppy and emotional and fall in love with adorable and interesting characters. Tanya is a lawyer looking for a new flat and although she won’t admit it, the love she lacks. She keeps bumping into the gorgeous Sophie but her unfortunate manner doesn’t exactly endear her to the woman. Both characters have difficult backstories that impact the present. Can they help each other deal with these issues? I feel Tanya’s story will resonate with a lot of people. They are both at a stage where they need a change and to find someone special and this is what really engaged me. This is a hilariously funny book with beautiful romantic moments and wonderfully descriptive sex - what else would one expect from Clare Lydon? I just wish someone would make her stories into movies! I was given this ARC in return for an honest review.

Fun romcom with a serious side and genuinely likeable characters

Tanya is a high-powered lawyer, interesting, attractive and successful, very confident in her world, with a flaw; she is frequently rude and brash and rather full of her own importance. When her Gran dies Tanya has no choice but to take her Gran’s adored dog before her uncaring mother sends it to the local rescue. But a dog doesn't exactly fit into her busy flat dwelling life style. Sophie is growing her dog walking business and licking her wounds from a broken heart while she figures out what she really wants out of life. Under normal circumstances they have nothing in common, but they keep crossing paths and somehow make a connection beyond that of pet owner and dog walker. When they take a road trip to Tanya’s home town things begin to move beyond what either had planned in their lives. A sweet romcom, this is book three of the London series and definitely stands alone. Those who have read “This London Love” will recognise Tanya as the decidedly unlikeable villain, and it’s good to see her grow into herself, let herself be more than the nasty bottled up woman who has been distorted by her mother and her own baggage. Sophie is a total sweetie who you can’t help but love, and her interactions with her Dad are priceless. It well written with great descriptions and imagery, great fun, real emotion and hot sex as usual. Both women are on an emotional journey, one maybe more serious than the other, but both have things to learn and a history to overcome. Despite the growth and angst that drives the women together this is a light hearted read full of wit and humour, drawn with love. Thoroughly enjoyable read and for me, Ms Lydon’s best yet, as her writing, and her characters mature.

Whats not to love.

This book really struck home for me because my grandmother passed away earlier this year. I could truly feel Tanya’s pain having lost someone who meant so much in her life. It was also very sweet that she took in her grandmothers dog when her mother threatens to give her away. Anyone who knows me knows I have a soft spot when it comes to animals. I think the book did a great job explaining why Tanya and Sophie acted the way they did in their relationships. Past experience really does taint how people regard future relationships. Both women had been hurt in the past and needed to work out their issues before they were able to love each other. I’m excited to read the next installment in the London series. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance novels. The relationship is very believable and the smexy scenes are extra smexy. Plus, who could say no to a cute puppy? Thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Loved it!

I bought this book through the Australia amazon site but had to share it with you. When I read a books’ blurb, I want to know that it has potential…a well written story, interesting characters, humour and romance. I have a few favourite authors, Clare Lydon being one of them. This is because Lydon’s books have most of these mentioned qualities. “A Girl Called London” is a great read. What makes the story interesting and work is that the characters are well developed and likeable. You want to know more about Tanya and Sophie, their history, how they meet and the potential they have. All I can say is that Lydon has done it again!

A Good Story

This is one of Ms. Lyndon’s best. A nice change from some of the fluffy tales she sometimes tells. When she puts her mind to it Ms. Lydon is capable of writing very good books with a lot of substance, and this was one of them. It’s a story about about two complex women trying to move forward from their difficult pasts. I was impressed with how the author let Tanya’s character evolve from a rude, self-indulgent woman to one who learned to love and share by taking two steps forward and one back, yet always growing. Sophy’s issues were presented much more subtly but were just as well realized. Both of them earned their HEA.

Very cute and sweet romcom

A Girl Called London is the third book in Clare Lydon’s London Romance series, and it fully stands alone. Tanya and Sophie are truly the focus of this book as they go from their rocky beginning to their happily ever after, and characters from London Calling and This London Love join them as friends and acquaintances. I hadn’t read either of those books before picking up A Girl Called London and it didn’t matter at all. These side characters are the perfect supports, helping the two leads find themselves so that they can find happiness with each other.

Not worth the price

Was expecting more, from the description and the review. Would've preffered it if it was $2.99, as that seemed like the right price. An OK book, so 2 stars for that. :T

Lift encounters lead to love!

Clare Lydon certainly knows how to please her audience and this book is no exception to that rule. The book languished in my ‘2BRead’ folder on my Kindle for quite some time before I finally got around to reading it - no reflection on the author but just SO much to read! Tanya is probably the least likeable of the characters from the previous books, so making her the main protagonist was taking a risk. Nevertheless, Ms Lydon manages to build-in enough of a back story to stir the sympathies. The family issues raised here aren’t all resolved neatly and tied up with a bow, but the conclusion is ultimately uplifting. Now that I’ve spotted that the next book is going to focus on ‘best friends’ of Tanya and Sophie here (’supposedly straight’ Alice and lesbian Rachel - I do love a ‘straight girl finds she’s not so straight after all’ tale) I suspect that it’ll be a much shorter period before I’m back for more from Clare! N.B Small points I know, but I did spot two errors in this that I was surprised weren’t picked up at the proofreading stage - having had it mentioned a number of times that Sophie has beautiful blue eyes, how come she fixed Tanya ”with her gorgeous green stare”? And I think “Alan had alluded” rather than “eluded”...

I Love the London Series.

The latest book from Clare Lydon and the latest in the London series. I love the London series and I wasn’t disappointed with the latest instalment. This book concentrates on the Characters Sophie and Tanya (and not forgetting Delilah). I won’t do a synopsis because if you are reading this you have already read what the book is about. The book is well paced and the story quickly draws you in and makes you want to know what will happen next. The characters are what we have come to expect of Clare, well developed, mulit- dimensional with a heap load of problems that we can relate to. The dialogue is, believable and realistic. Clare interweaves characters from previous London Books and for readers who have read the other books in the series will understand their significance and their back stories. If for some crazy reason you haven’t read any of the other London Books then the older characters won’t leave readers confused. Another thoroughly enjoyable read. I am already waiting for the next one in the series

Very moving story

While there are a few very amusing, almost slapstick moments in this book, for the most part this is much more "deep" and serious than Clare Lydon's usual books. The more serious nature of this story is no bad thing though. Here we meet Tanya and Sophie, two young women who have both been scarred by the actions of their mothers. They are both struggling to move forward with the ghosts of the past ever present in their minds. We get plenty of backstory for both characters, and so are able to fully understand their motives. We are also Introduced to two wonderful characters - Alan, Tanya's old neighbour, who is just a lovely old man (who wouldn't want an Alan in their life), and Delilah, a delightful little dog that Tanya sort of inherits. I would have liked the story to have continued a bit longer, but won't complain, as this really is an excellent book and well up to Clare's usual high standards,

I was not disappointed. I wasn't sure how I would react to ...

The next in the London series from Clare. I have been thoroughly enjoying this series and looked forward to picking up the next installment. I was not disappointed. I wasn't sure how I would react to a full story about Tanya as she kinda peeved me off in the last one, but she won me over. When I got the backstory to her, I began to understand her behavior. Sophie though was the character who won be over from the get go. I fully relatable character. You could imagine being her lover or her best friend. A very well written book, with characters that you can imagine being friends with and living in your neighborhood. The mistakes the friction intended or not had me growling at the book for both of them to see what they had in front of them. Another winner Ms Lydon.

Well worth the wait.

This is the third book in the London series and this time the focus falls on Tanya Grant, who we got to know a little about in the previous book. This was a woman well used to taking what she wanted when she found it, before moving on to the next challenge. However, this book shows us a different side to Tanya. Two years have passed, and while she hasn't completely given up being rude and slightly unpleasant, we gain a better understanding of how life has shaped her. The book begins by showing us the special relationship Tanya shares with her Gran. The older woman is obviously a rock for the younger, but unfortunately Tanya's world is turned upside down by the expected, but nevertheless heart breaking death of her beloved Gran. Amongst the pain and turmoil Tanya faces, there is positivity in the form of Sophie, who Tanya literally keeps bumping into. There is instant attraction for Tanya, but with all she has to deal with at the time she can't see it working and makes some bad decisions as a result. Can she salvage the fragile relationship, and does she really deserve to?

Calling all lovers

I was hooked from the first chapter with fab characters including an amazingly funny and insightful gran along with her adorable dog, Delilah. The characters first few interactions highlight one as quite rude and self obsessed but like Sophie I couldn’t help in liking Tanya. If you have read the previous London series books you will love catching up with some familiar characters in this book too. Definitely got to be more to come for Tanya, Sophie and Delilah and I do hope to read about them real soon. I would totally recommend this book for complete escapism, enjoying the journey of this couple from their first chance meeting to later when they are up close and personal. Clare’s skill in weaving the story stimulates your emotions and gets you giggling too.

Another hit by Clare Lydon

Although the third book of the series, it is a standalone book. I have read all three and I thought this was the best book so far. Smouldering romance but also heartache of family life. I thought Tanya’s mother and father very realistic. Tanya and Sophie literally bump into each and I enjoyed seeing their romance grow. Also liked seeing the other characters from the two previous books return giving it a true family feeling. Extremely well written as usual by Clare Lydon. Great characters you care about, make this a riveting read. I can’t wait for the next book.

One of Lesfics most established authors.

I don't give 5 stars out easily. I normally find it too easy to pick holes in novels, which then means I don't want to write a review and dissect someone's work and possibly put someone off reading it. Clare Lydon doesn't give me that problem. You know what you get when you start one of her books. Something that will make you laugh, cry and realise that falling in love is the best feeling in the world. A Girl Called London perhaps does all of this better than she has ever done in previous books. Clare Lydon doesn't fall for the usual Lesfic plotlines of make them fall in love just to break them up and then put them back together again. She realises that there is more inventful ways to make the reader interested in her characters and their relationship. The London series cleverly ties different characters together throughout the 3 books. Picking what was one of the 'badies' of This London Love and developing her into the most loveable out all the characters in the series is the best thing about the London books... So far. Can't wait to read the next installment now.

Even the dogs sound real

A girl called London is another great book from Clare Lydon. I don’t fit the natural demographic for her books, but I am becoming addicted. Clare Lydon’s writing style is very clever, she makes the characters come to life. You live their feelings; you sense their bittersweet emotions and share their fears and joys. You become lost in the book, you can believe the characters are real and have become your friends. Even the dogs have characters and personalities. It’s a writing skill that is rare, but should be celebrated and enjoyed. I just wish I could ask Sophie to walk my dog; sadly I don’t live in Woolwich. My only complaint was the negative comment, from just one character, about Co-op wine, but I suppose it can be forgiven.

Excellent once again

Another winner by Clare Lydon again. I'm really enjoying the London series and was eagerly awaiting this instalment. I loved the main characters in this book. Lydon manages to write characters that are easy to relate to and connect with. Along with that the connection and spark between the two is obvious from the start and I really enjoyed how the romance played out. It was realistic and I love that in a book. Throw in good secondary characters and a cute dog and you have a winner. Definitely worth your time reading this one and I'm looking forward to the next instalment...

BRILLIANT BOOK!! Highly recommend reading.

Brilliant book! An amazing read and literally couldn't put it down once I started. I love the fact that it could be read as a stand alone or part of a series which is how I read it. It's great having the characters like Jess and Lucy and then Meg from previous books in this third book and having read the other books it's good to have some background on them. All in all a fantastic book, easy to read and with amazingly relatable characters and I just loved Delilah's character.

Business as usual for Clare Lydon a fantastic read!

This is another great book from Clare Lydon, I started reading it in my lunch break and wished away the afternoon until I could get home and finish it. I immediately identified with Sophie but I struggled with Tanya after her treatment of Meg & Kate in 'This London Love'. But as the chapters progressed I found myself liking her against my better judgement! It was nice to have catch up with characters from Clare's previous London books especially Jess & Lucy (Spinach is a fab name for a dog!) and unexpected appearances from Meg. If you love Clare's books or a want great lesfic read, buy this book it's a guaranteed few hours of escapism. Thanks Clare, I can't wait for the next book!

Wonderful characters and a real page turner.

Clare Lydon really knows how to write characters! They are witty, smart and also flawed.I was into this story within pages and I romped all the way through it without any moments of confusion or boredom. The thing is that you really care about these women. You care about the troubles they've had and the direction they are going in. It's a romance so its a safe bet that there will be a happy ending, but their burgeoning love does have it's wobbles and we don't quite know if they will make the right choices. I loved the dog walking angle and the humour and realism it injected. Dogs are great at grounded and connecting people. A great read and you'll finish it feeling a renewed hope about love and life... and the healing influence of dogs.

Another wonderful book

Clare Lydon has produced another heartwarming, funny, thought provoking book. If you've read her other books (and if you haven't get on it!) you'll know Clare has a way of writing characters that could be any one of your best mates, they almost feel like mates by the time you've finished reading. I love Sophie, I could see us getting on! Her descriptions of London bring me on a trip back to one of my favourite cities every time as well. Another great read.

Capital!

The third book in Clare Lydon's London series provides everything a good book should between its covers - terrific writing, an engaging storyline with a slew of real life characters, cracking dialogue, lots of humour, some gritty issues in the mothering department and welcome appearances from some old friends. Can be read as a stand-alone - but why miss out on more of the above!

Great read

Book three is as good as books 1&2, love how the characters are interweaving throughout the series I've got book 4 so I can continue my journey in the life of the London girls .funny , lighthearted enjoyable read .

Must buy book - true romance

The first book I bought by Clare and I fell in love with it instantly. I couldn’t put it down and ended up reading the book in two days! The main characters are so easy to love.

I love the way that Clare has written the London Romance ...

I love the way that Clare has written the London Romance series as three separate entities, yet bringing characters in from the others. Brilliant! Having said that, there is a sequence... best read in order of publication ;-)

Another great book in the London series

Another brilliant book by Clare Lydon. This book grapples with some deep and complex issues but there is also lots of Clare's trademark humour and astute observation. I thoroughly recommend getting to know Tanya, Sophie and delightful Delilah! You will not be disappointed.

My Favourite so far.

"She said she had a good life." That line stoppped me in my tracks and hit me in my stomach. It was what my Gran said to me. Just me and her in the room at the time. Her death was a turning point in my life too so I loved the book and loved Tanya and Sophie's story. As an ex teacher I'm so going to have to read book 4.

Heartwarming

Always love books by this author! You can't help but love the characters and get emotionally involved in their lives!! Read this book in 2 days, and it would only have been a matter of hours if I hadn't had to tear myself away for work!! Brilliant book. Can't wait for the next in the series!! If you're wondering whether to buy it, definitely hit the buy button, it doesn't disappoint.

Another great book by Clare Lydon

Another great start to what I hope will be a new series. The story builds the characters slowly, but you soon start to love them both. Thanks Clare for another good one.

great read !

Funny book ! nice to see an author not charge over £7 for a book as most of them do nowadays and over 300 pages too . Highly recommend this book and series. best to read the others first as you get to meet the other character from the series.
