An absolute fantastic read that helps get you on the right track to getting chemicals out of your life and taking care of yourself. I love so many of the tips and recipes here and am still dying to try others.one step at a time I guess --Amazon

I have many of this author's books and this one does not disappoint. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested in sustainable living topics. --Amazon

This book really made me think about how unfortunate we are to not have these skills. How we have become dependent on can good, preservatives, and too easy to become lazy. It reminded me of my grandmother & grandfather and the crops they grew and had right a hand. How wonderful it all tasted. Really great book to get ideas from to become more self sufficient and plan ahead for our families. --Amazon

It was astounding to realize that we had lost so much of our original vegetation to extinction, I for one did not know this sad fact and that greed led to this, well that part made sense. Overall this book is filled with so much information. How and when to plant, what to do and what not to do, and Questions that individuals have ask over the years and Caleb's Answers, an overall good read.

I thought this book had a lot of great information in it. And, like the first book, it has gorgeous photography throughout. This book is a pleasure to hold in your hands and to read - a real beauty and well written.

This author is extremely knowledgeable and his books are super easy and fun to read. They hold your interest and really educate you. I have implemented MANY of his suggestions in this book already and plan to add many more as the seasons go on.

I do agree with some other reviewers with a bit of criticism: this book is FULL of self promotion. While a mention or two of his previous/next book or his website would have been fine, he *constantly* mentions them. He refers readers to other books he's written [and I own all of his books, so that worked for me, but I bet it would have annoyed me horribly if I did not own them]. He mentions his website and his rare seeds ad nauseum.. I mean seriously, in some parts he mentions it on every single page. [Although, I gotta give the guy credit, because I guess it worked. I now buy many of my seeds from him... lol!] It was just a little over the top for me, though, and started to really get on my nerves. [at one point, I felt I'd paid good money for a long string of advertisements!]

I absolutely loved his information on gardening with raised beds and creating them for little or no money. That chapter alone was worth the price of the book for me. In general, I love his "voice" in these books and I really enjoy learning from him. I really like his philosophy on life and on self sufficiency, and I find him an excellent teacher.

I will continue to buy his books - just hoping for a tiny bit less self promotion in the ones that follow.

I live in Utah as the author does, but in a different part of the state. As yet, I haven't had a chance to implement his gardening and planting tips, but I'm hoping they turn out better than some of the money-saving recipes for every day supplies he puts forth.

Here are the ones I had problems with: 1) using liquid dish soap in your dishwasher instead of the product made for it. Labels on liquid dish soap state specifically not to use the product in a dishwasher; 2) the laundry detergent ingredients are quite pungent and are no match for the famously hard water found in Utah -- the mixture didn't clean that well; 3) since there were no specific directions on how much fabric softener to put on a piece of cloth instead of using dryer sheets, (I used a large knotted square of old flannel and Downey liquid softener) the result was disappointing. It felt like the cloth that absorbed the softener, not the clothes; and 4) the toothpaste ingredients were messy and left stuff stuck in my teeth. I understand you sacrifice convenience with homemade money-saving substitutes, but the payoff wasn't there for me despite carefully following directions.

These issues aside, I found the book well-written with a tight layout and very good photo illustrations. Mr. Warnock's philosophy for self-sufficiency and passion for passing it on to his grandkids and others is admirable. But I feel it's a bit like trying to make yourself into a good dog trainer by reading books and watching videos. The experts always end up making it look much easier than it is.

I like how Caleb is willing to try something and then share it. You really get the feeling that he wants to help you become self-sufficient. If we could all become a bit more self-sufficient it could make a huge difference in the overall economy.

A real eye opener. When I plant seeds I need to know what I am getting. So I usually pick seeds to grow 2 years down the road. The same seeds I am planting today. It's better to throw away seeds you don't like then wait until you have harvest ed and have a bunch of hard work you can not use.
