I am George Washington (Ordinary People Change the World) Kindle Edition
George Washington was never afraid to be the first to try something, from exploring the woods around his childhood home to founding a brand new nation, the United States of America. With his faith in the American people and tremendous bravery, he helped win the Revolutionary War and became the country’s first president.

• A timeline of key events in the hero’s history
• Photos that bring the story more fully to life
• Comic-book-style illustrations that are irresistibly adorable
• Childhood moments that influenced the hero
• Facts that make great conversation-starters
• A virtue this person embodies: George Washington's courage to set off a new course is highlighted here.

Forge a Path
George Washington wasn't able to go to school, but that didn't stop him from learning. His brothers taught him at home and he found unique ways of teaching himself important information. He even became a land surveyor when he was fifteen!
Military Man
Washington joined the military when he got older. The skills he learned during his first war afforded him a high ranking position in the American Revolution. General George Washington and his men faced hardships, but it paid off in the long run.
A Natural Leader
Washington was chosen to lead the armed forces against the British, but that wasn't all he was chosen for! Because of his success in the war, he became the first President of the United States.
Lead the Way
When George Washington forged a path for himself, he also did so for others. He understood that sometimes the most important trail is the one never taken before. But being a leader isn't just about being in charge, it's also about caring for others.

About the authors
Brad Meltzer is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Inner Circle, The Book of Fate, and nine other bestselling thrillers including The Tenth Justice, The First Counsel, The Millionaires, and The President’s Shadow. His most recent book, The Escape Artist, debuted at #1 on the bestseller list. His non-fiction book, The First Conspiracy, is about a real life secret plot to kill George Washington and is out now. And his upcoming book is The Lincoln Conspiracy, about a FIRST secret plot to kill Abraham Lincoln.
In addition to his fiction, Brad is one of the only authors to ever have books on the bestseller list for Non-Fiction (History Decoded), Advice (Heroes for My Son and Heroes for My Daughter), Children’s Books (I Am Amelia Earhart and I Am Abraham Lincoln) and even comic books (Justice League of America), for which he won the prestigious Eisner Award.
He is also the host of Brad Meltzer’s Lost History on H2 and Brad Meltzer’s Decoded on the History Channel. The Hollywood Reporter recently put him on their list of Hollywood’s 25 Most Powerful Authors.
Brad is also responsible for helping find the missing 9/11 flag that the firefighters raised at Ground Zero, making national news on the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Using his TV show, Brad Meltzer's Lost History, he told the story of the missing flag and asked Americans for their help in returning it. Four days later, a former Marine walked into a fire station in Everett, Washington, said he saw Meltzer's TV show, and now wanted to return the flag. Meltzer recently unveiled the flag at the 9/11 Museum in New York, where it is now on display. See the video here.
For sure, it’s tough to find anyone being so successful in so many different mediums of the popular culture. But why does Brad thrive in all these different professions? His belief that ordinary people change the world. It is that core belief that runs through every one of his projects.
His newest thriller, The Escape Artist, introduces Nola and Zig, brand new characters in a setting that will blow your mind (you won't believe where the government let Brad go). For now, we'll say this: Nola is dead. Everyone says she's dead. But Jim "Zig" Zigarowski just found out the truth: Nola is alive. And on the run. Together, Nola and Zig will reveal a centuries old secret that traces back the greatest escape artist of all: Harry Houdini. The Escape Artist arrives in March 2018.
His illustrated children’s books I Am Amelia Earhart and I Am Abraham Lincoln were written for his own children, to give them better heroes to look up to. Try them. You won’t believe how inspired you and your family will be. The next in the series will be I am Leonardo da Vinci (April). A TV show based on the series just debuted on PBS: Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum.
His other non-fiction books, Heroes for My Son and Heroes for My Daughter, are collections of heroes – from Jim Henson to Sally Ride — that he’s been working on since the day his kids were born and is on sale now, as well as History Decoded: The 10 Greatest Conspiracies of All Time.
He’s also one of the co-creators of the TV show, Jack & Bobby.
Raised in Brooklyn and Miami, Brad is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Columbia Law School. The Tenth Justice was his first published work and became an instant New York Times bestseller. Dead Even followed a year later and also hit the New York Times bestseller list, as have all eight of his novels. The First Counsel came next, which was about a White House lawyer dating the President’s daughter, then The Millionaires, which was about two brothers who steal money and go on the run. The Zero Game is about two Congressional staffers who are – literally – gambling on Congress. The Book of Fate, is about a young presidential aide, a crazed assassin, and the 200 year-old code created by Thomas Jefferson that ties them together. For authenticity, The Book of Fate, was researched with the help of former Presidents Clinton and Bush. The Book of Lies, is about the missing murder weapon that Cain used to kill Abel, as well as the unsolved murder of Superman creator Jerry Siegel’s father. Brad is one of the only people to interview Jerry Siegel’s family about the murder and, with his charitable site www.OrdinaryPeopleChangeTheWorld.com, has been the driving force behind the movement to repair the house where Superman was created.
His book The Inner Circle (and its sequels, The Fifth Assassin and The President’s Shadow) is based the idea that George Washington’s personal spy ring still exists today. A young archivist in the National Archives finds out the spy ring is still around. He doesn’t know who they work for — but the greatest secret of the Presidency is about to be revealed. While researching the book, former President George HW Bush also gave Brad, for the very first time, the secret letter he left for Bill Clinton in the Oval Office desk. Oh, and yes, Brad was recruited by the Department of Homeland Security to brainstorm different ways that terrorists might attack the US.
His books have spent over a year on the bestseller lists, and have been translated into over 25 languages, from Hebrew to Bulgarian. In The Tenth Justice, the opening lines are: “Ben Addison was sweating. Like a pig.” In the Hebrew translation, it became: “Ben Addison was sweating. Like a horse.” We’re not sure if it’s a kosher thing or what!
Brad has played himself as an extra in Woody Allen’s Celebrity, co-wrote the swearing in oath for AmeriCorps, the national service program, and earned credit from Columbia Law School for writing his first book, which became The Tenth Justice. Before all of that, he got 24 rejection letters for his true first novel, which still sits on his shelf, published by Kinko’s.
Brad currently lives in Florida with his wife, who’s also an attorney.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2024I like the fact that I could purchase a tangible book for my grandson. There Is nothing better than opening a new book and smelling the fresh ink and new paper! The illustrations are great. I was very impressed with the way Washington's life story was told while debunking all the silly little "untruths"we were taught as children! I learned a lot while reading the book with him! I'll be ordering Lincoln from the series next. I hope it's as knowledgeable as the latter.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2016We love these books. My son started reading them in Kindergarten and they have really fed his fascination for the Presidents and other historical figures. The illustrations are fantastic and they are just the right tone to really capture the attention of young children. The stories shared are interesting for both children and adults. I also really like that there are positive characteristics described and emphasized throughout to really showcase why these are important people and give examples to pattern after. Well done! Between Amazon and Scholastic reading club, I think we finally finished getting the sets. We even had to get a second copy of the Abraham Lincoln in hardback because we loved it so much and could have his Kindergarten teacher write a note in it for a special collection of his favorite books from each year. These books easily made his favorite list and mine. Thank you!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 11, 2017We are using this as part of our Kindergarten social studies curriculum to introduce famous humanitarians, activists, and scientists. These book capture their attention and because they are drawn as children, kids can relate. They are chalk full of interesting people and their unique characters that break the mold. I think having these as a reference point to people who were not always loved by society and worked through much opposition in life has helped reiterate that fitting into the standard mold is not all it's cracked up to be and allows that to feel good about them being who they are and finding comfort in that. We love this series and can't wait for more.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 11, 2017My dyslexic son LOVES this series! It is a great way to learn about history and is visually appealing which keeps his interest over time. Would highly recommend. Also, the physical books have the same quality as the online kindle e-version. For some reason it appears when looking at the listing like the color for the online version are faded - this is not the case. Either version is fine. I love these books as a home schooler because they match well to the core curriculum of famous Americans. It is way more interesting than a boring curriculum, however. It really makes the people easy to understand and history tangible.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2016Brad Meltzer has an uncanny ability to bring complicated history into accessible language for children. I have all the books in this series and have yet to be disappointed with any of them. Brad Meltzer has given great attention to detail and taken his time on every single page. These books are also great for teachers who want to introduce their students to important historical figures (or teach them about biographies). Conceptually, they are appropriate for any level in elementary school! Great job! If you are a teacher looking for lessons to accompany any of the books in this series, check on teachers pay teachers for some great literature companions!

Interesting lives, and you can later discuss the story with the kids. I have found that most of them (stories) stick to their minds, even recalling full names and events a few weeks/months later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, brilliant series
These are great super well-presented books that are excellent for children of all ages and entertaining for adults as well. Our 10-year old daughter has a passion for famous historical characters. And she prefers to read about a wide range of them and through this get to know about different historic era’s as well. She has read a lot about the obvious female heroes like Florence Nightingale, Frida Kahlo, Madame Curie ect. However she really likes to know more about other people that she has heard of. So this range of books with its wide selection of topics is great, she has already the version abbot Leonardo DaVinci, Neil Armstrong, Walt Disney and Abraham Lincoln.
But of course its is mostly about the adorable cartoon style nature of these little books and how the relative simplicity of the storylines perfectly captures the essence of the topic. Simply brilliant. The 40-page book is very colourful and comes with a durable hard cover. For now our daughter has read it but she is also reading it to her younger brother. And invariably its leads to little discussions and questions about the topics afterward, which is invaluable. Like in most modern cartoon movies, these books are full moralising themes and the storylines mostly centre around these. In the George Washington book it is all about leadership, endurance and pioneering in new directions.
We’re clearly big fans of the series , our little precious collection is growing and we look forward to a few more of these soon.
