Camilla D'Errico's Burn Kindle & comiXology

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 6 ratings

Burn was once human. He also had a family and friends, until a metallic angel of death took everything from him. This mechanical monster, Shoftiel, was one of many living machines made to help humanity that revolted and declared war on their creators. It tore through Burn's home and wreaked havoc on his city until the buildings collapsed, crashing down upon them. Burn and Shoftiel discover their separate bodies have become one-neither human nor machine, but a union of both, and their minds are caught in a raging battle for control.

So I picked up this book because I adore Camilla d'Errico's art...and I loved the story. I saw that some people did not like it and others on Goodreads thought it was unoriginal - I respectfully disagree. I would totally read a follow-up! If you like graphic novels, I can recommend this one.

Camilla d'Errico's Burn written by Scott Sanders is sci-fi piece similar in the feel of Battle Angel Alita. This is one of those great marriage of American comics and japanese Manga. The story is focused on a little boy who's dying body is taken over by a ravaging body intent on killing humans. The boy and robot fight over control over the body as he has to face distrusting humans, the robot's brother, and his own internal struggle. I find the writting is swift and gets to the point,it doesn't try to be complex. The book tries to show internal struggles and the frame of mind both robot and boy exist which is very important in this kind of medium.

Now the book is black and white but I think most people who pick up this would be anime fans so that's not big problem. The drawings weren't well produced, they're good, bu this feels like a first book for most of the people who participated. So as an indie book I think this is a great first and I hope to see sequels to this. At the price you can find this book I think makes it a worthy purchase.
