About the Author
Finger's television credits include 77 Sunset Strip, The Roaring Twenties and Hawaiian Eye during the late 1950s and early 1960s. His efforts in the super-hero genre also appeared on TV in the 1960s, including material for the animated New Adventures of Superman plus a two-part Clock King episode of the 1966 Batman series. Finger died in New York City on January 24, 1974. He was posthumously inducted into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame in 1999.
Robert Kahn was born on October 24, 1916 in the Bronx and at age 18 legally changed his name to Kane. In 1936, this self-proclaimed "compulsive doodleholic" pencilled and inked his first comic book work, Hiram Hick. By 1938 he was selling humorous filler stories to DC Comics, including Professor Doolittle and Ginger Snap. Kane met writer Bill Finger at a party in 1938, and they soon were collaborating on comic book submissions. Their most famous effort, Batman, first appeared in DETECTIVE COMICS #27 (May 1939). As Batman's popularity demanded additional output, Kane kept up the pace by adding assistants and dropping non-Batman assignments. He discontinued his comic book efforts in mid-1943 to pencil the daily Batman and Robin newspaper strip. After the strip's 1946 demise, Kane returned to illustrating Batman's comic book adventures and, with the help of several ghosts, remained involved with comics until his retirement in 1968.
The success of the Batman television series brought Kane and his art back into the public eye in 1966. He was subsequently featured in various one-man art shows at galleries and museums nationwide and released a number of limited-edition lithographs. He served as a consultant on the 1989 Batman feature film and its sequels. His autobiography, Batman and Me, was published in 1989, and in 1996 he was inducted into the Eisner Awards Hall of Fame. Kane died on November 3, 1998.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2024Not certain all stories are from the 1960's but no matter, excellent collection. And great seller, book arrived early and well packaged.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2024Batman in the middle of the 1950s is fun reading. First story introduces Batwoman for the first time. Mixture of crime fighting, some science fiction and lots of fun.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2024The book looks great and includes a massive amount of content; however, this is DC Batman Silver Age stories verses Marvel Silver Age stories. It was hard getting through some of the stories and did not make it through the entire book. I think I would have enjoyed the stories that came before this collection and/or the great Neal Adams Batman content. This era of batman stories was just silly and boring. But just my opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2024Great quality book and fast delivery.

Stories contained within take the reader back to a time when complete stories were told in five pages (more or less). The artwork is not the same quality of today's masterpieces, however the stories held up, leaving the readers imagination to fill in any blanks. There was no need to buy 24 issues across multiple titles to understand the story. The quality of this reproduction is excellent. I am enjoying it more now than when I first read these stories in the 50's or later in the 70's as reprints in the back half of other stories. This is silver age heaven for collectors of those stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2022I love the Golden Age omnibus Batman series. However, for many of us baby boomers the Silver Age is what we’ve been craving. Those were exciting days back then, looking for the new issue of Batman or Detective Comics on the newsstand. One of the previous reviewers is correct, though, there are some missing issues between the last golden age omnibus and this, the first silver age omnibus, that need to be put into book form at some point. I certainly hope we get them. But more than anything I am really hoping that this will not be the first and last silver age omnibus. By my count, there are almost exactly the issues needed to make three more silver age volumes before we get to the “new look Batman,” which started in mid 1964. And frankly, I hope they continue on with a “new look” omnibus series as well. This first volume, though, was absolutely beautiful! The re-creation of these old panels is breathtaking. When you go back and look at the old dot matrix original issues and compare them to the re-printings contained within this omnibus…well…there simply is no comparison. Batman, the Silver Age Omnibus Volume One is practically as good as it gets. The only thing more I could have wished for would have been the inclusion of the old advertisements that decorated the pages of the original issues. Other than that, this book is perfect. Wow!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2023Great silver age batman comics.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2024As an older collector, who is downsizing his collection, i am able to purchase a great reprint book to pull off the shelf anytime and relive my childhood, while at the same time selling my original copies and letting someone else enjoy the older books, and the ads in them. bright colorful pages, without the chance of damaging my older comics. I highly recommend this long awaited volume, and eagerly await the next volume 2 of the Silver Age Batman stories!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful stories and distinctive artwork
These 1956-1958 Batman and Detective Comics stories came just a little before I started reading DC comics, but give the real flavour of the Batman and Robin et al. characters I came to know and admire in the 1960s. This volume is voluminous - great entertainment, nostalgia-inducing, and sheer fun to read. Good value for money. Highly recommended if you like that sort of thing.
